Hmmn ! Don't be too sure that a new Govt will be quick to spit out the sugar it finds in it's mouth.

Taxation puts money in the hand of the Govt. A new Govt will not be in a hurry to dismantle a revenue scheme it met on ground, even if it would not have introduced the scheme itself.

In the words of our fathers, if abomination survives for a year, it becomes tradition.

Besides, will throwing out the "clueless, arrogant" Govt even be doable ?
These things would most likely push more activity into the informal sector. Many more people would avoid using banks and could channel their funds through other means. How does it make sense that a 70 year old grandma/papa who is not working nor receiving salaries must have tax ID to open a bank account? What is the need for tax ID when already there is NIN and BVN?
The clueless, arrogant govt. will surely leave because there is always a tenure limit, whether 4 years or 8 years.

True, we pray there should be no riots. But to your second point, don’t you think this is evidence to Nigeria’s strength and ability to keep itself together despite fighting many internal battles all at once for years? How many countries can handle that and not be down by now? (think Sudan conflict).

Nigeria has dealt with Niger Delta Avengers, IPOB agitation, Fulani herdsmen, Bandits, Middle belt crisis, ISWAP, BokoHaram, Lukarawa from the Sahel in Kebbi, etc stretching the military thin across the nation but still keeping it’s shit together in Abuja.
It is not a sign of strength to be struggling endlessly against rag-tag militia like BH, ISWAP, Lukarawa, Niger Delta Avengers etc. especially when there has not been any decisive victory achieved by the Army for ages. Even Niger Delta militants were appeased by President Yar'dua via an amnesty problem; the military/navy did not overpower or crush them into submission. Fulani herdsmen are still wrecking havoc etc
Ironically, one of things that seem to keep Nigeria together is that there is enough money to be looted and shared among anyone that gets near to seat of power, hence the corrupt leaders of agitators get easily compromised and forget their agitations when they are settled with big contracts or deals. eg. Tompolo etc. It is not because of the strength of the military because they are poorly equipped and even demoralized.

No violent riot that won't be put down in Nigeria. This ain't Nepal.
Please, lets hope and pray that Nigeria doesn't experience extremely violent riots. There should be no room for complacency
A country experiencing endless ethnic killings, kidnappings, banditry, terrorist acts etc. for almost 20 years is a country in delicate, dangerous times.
Boko Haram has not been defeated for more than 15 years now.

Going for the jugular:

Tax Identification will become a requirement to operate a bank account from January, including to transact on NGX.
So our old grandmas and grandpas in the villages and hamlets must obtain tax ID by force before they can operate bank accounts to receive little allowances (from their children) to buy food and medicine.!
Thank God there is tenure limit so a clueless, arrogant govt. can be thrown out.

A very clueless country with clueless leaders.
Ethiopia with 135million people has just commissioned the largest hydro-electric dam in Africa that can single-handedly generate more than 5,000MW of electricity, enough to power all of Nigeria.
They started this project in 2011, and have now completed it in less than 15 years while the boastful, but clueless Nigeria with over 200m people has not achieved anything meaningful in power generation for the last 30 years and more!

This is similar to the usual excuses of failed siblings, blaming their most successful siblings that 'all the money that our parents had were used to educate Broda Yemi/ Aunty Aminat' now, he forgets us.

The real reason why other States witnessed slower growth: collapses of over 300 manufacturing companies scattered accross Nigeria between 1986-2007 and replacement, with culture of massive importation. This led to great rural-urban migration.
What made Lagos what it is today, are the FG investments in Lagos infrastructure and other policies when it was the federal capital territory. Similar to how Abuja is being developed by today. What those investments, Lagos would have been next to nothing.
That is the simple truth!

You guys can be fighting your stock picks/recommendations war. That's normal. What is not Normal is putting out incorrect information. Nobody chased OGG away. He was canversing for customers and trying to divert members to his group where he offered paid service. Even though that was not in anyway a crime/offence, it negates the whole essence of this thread.

He stopped commenting either because he has had enough customers to sustain his paid services or because he was no longer getting more customers from here. Nobody chased him away because of his stock picks.

Also, please beware that no matter how accurate your picks and predictions are there will always be people with contrary opinions. Infact even God that created the Heaven and earth human still go contrary to his commands. The only difference between the people that fronted/marketed aradel and transpower with those in Ellahlake and Oando is the emotions and intolerance attached with Oando/ellah fans nothing more.
Thanks for your candid comments.
However, let's all hope OGG and others are doing well wherever they may be.
We may never know what might have been keeping him and others away from the forum in recent times.

As regards stock picks/recommendations, as far as I am concerned, what we say/do here about any stocks cannot have significant impact on NGX because the market is too big to be influenced by NSEMPA.

Israel is committing genocide in Gaza while Saudi Arabia is talking about "normalising" relationship with the same Israel.
USA is supplying bombs and weapons to Israel to continue carrying out her genocide in Palestine while Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain and Co are busy signing mega billions weapon deals with the same USA
Who looked for Israel's trouble?

How many Israeli military officers or political heads did Iran target or kill in their senseless missiles on civilian homes in Israel?
Compare that to Israel's attacks on military and govt installations in Iran and the military officers that were targeted/killed in those attacks.
If Israel decided to bomb just any civilian buildings in Iran, the damage would have been too grave

The same story. the same people will do plenty analysis why they felt a stock choice of another person is bad, some even criticized people saying buy with patients funds. None of the critics have ever come out to say sorry for misleading people even when it's obvious they were wrong.

I have seen ogg come here to drop recommendation and come to pass but bad belle will still come here and say there was no time frame that anybody could have done that. Since they chased him away, we are yet to see their recommendations with time frame.

Despite ogg showing plenty workings why he thinks there is a value in a particular stock, the bad belle no gree allow am stay here in peace. undecided

Ogg, na man you be.. cool

Double standard everywhere.
I always say that anyone who has experienced how some hitherto ''poorly rated'' stocks have turned around to deliver huge gains, sometimes more 2000%-4000% within few months would not condemn any stocks.
Wema, Ikeja Hotels, Honeywell, IB, Nahco, Learn Africa, MBA, NEM etc are all examples.
Part of the problem is because some of us want to arrogate to ourselves or create the impression that we have knowledge of everything and all possibilities about some stocks, which is false..

Who would have believed a few months ago that NEM Ins could be selling at N30+ today?

How old are you? Why can't you make your points based on facts and common sense?

Was ₦6 billion loan received and approved within 48 hours of EGM?
Is the ₦6 billion loan to be converted to shares at ₦3 per share?
What is the current price of Ellah Lakes?
Is there incentive for those who will get nearly 2 billion Ellah Lakes shares to sell at current price?

2 billion Ellah Lakes shares is currently worth 28 billion+

You gave loan of ₦6 billion and in less than 3 months the loan value has grown to ₦28 billion. Why won't they sell and why won't they even borrow more money to prop up the price?

NGX is corrupt and inefficient. Let them allow short selling of stocks and remove the cap on maximum percentage price movement of stocks daily. Ellah Lakes will drop to ₦5 today.
You may be right and vindicated at the end if your opinion is based on solid facts, data and figures.
However, people have different investment goals and strategies. The way Mr. A and Mr. B treat an investment of N6billion in Ellah could differ, depending on the information at their disposal, investment goals, timelines and horizon, cost of fund etc.
Not all the big-time investors will trade their shares on NGX. Some company directors, promoters take positions in stocks and aim for control, future corporate acquisitions, mergers etc. where they make bigger fortunes.
Information asymmetry is a key factor in investment why everybody cannot have the same view about a particular stocks

Baseless, unnecessary, useless sensationalism.
The US is more of an importer of crude oil than an exporterr, even though it has more oil than Nigeria.
The US govt is known to import oil from the major oil producers around the world so how could Iran 'snub" US oil for Nigeria"s oil ? Those who export oil from the US are private companies doing their own business and not the govt
So what is the sense in this sensationalism?

ProphetUtuocha:
1. Commercial Papers (CPs): Is the quoted interest prorated?

Yes , in virtually all markets (Nigeria inclusive), the quoted yield (e.g. 21.15%) is an annualized rate, not the exact return for that tenor.

To get the actual interest you earn for a shorter tenor (say 270 days), you have to prorate.

Exception: Some CPs are issued on a discount basis (i.e., sold below face value and redeemed at par). In that case, the quoted discount rate already embeds the time tenor. But if you see a "quoted yield" as in your example, it’s annualized and must be prorated.

Are CPs subject to withholding tax (WHT)?

Yes. Interest income on CPs attracts 10% withholding tax in Nigeria (deducted at source before payment).

This is the final tax (you don’t pay additional tax on that income again).

Other fees on CPs?
Typically no additional fees charged to investors. The issuing company may pay arrangers, trustees, issuing houses, etc., but those fees are on the issuer’s side, not the subscriber’s.

As an investor, what you see (net of WHT) is what you get.

2. Money Market Funds (MMFs)

How are fees charged?

MMF managers charge a management fee (often 1% – 2% per annum) and sometimes a trustee/custodian fee (tiny, usually <0.3%).

These fees are charged on the fund’s total assets under management (AUM), not just on the interest earned.

The fees are deducted from the fund’s gross returns before you see your NAV/unit price increase.

So in your example:
Invest ₦10 million.Suppose the gross return on investments = 10% (₦1m).

If management fee = 1.5% of AUM, that’s ₦150,000 deducted.
Net distributable return to you = ₦850,000 (an effective yield of 8.5%).

What happens if the fund makes no return (or negative return)?

Yes, fees still apply. Managers deduct them from AUM regardless. However, in practice, most MMFs are invested in safe, short-term instruments (T-bills, CPs, repos, bank placements), so negative returns are rare. But your capital can erode slowly if returns are very low and fees still get deducted.

Remember:
Commercial Papers: Quoted yield is annualized, prorate to tenor. Subject to 10% WHT. No investor-side fees.

Money Market Funds: Fees are on AUM, deducted before declaring returns. Even if returns are low, fees are still taken.
''Prophet'', we are waiting for more revelations ooo ....... about what you know already!

Joyful365:
Please house clarify these grey areas on commercial papers and money market funds if you have the experience.

For commercial papers, is the interest rate quoted prorated? For example, if 21.15% is quoted for 270 days tenure, is the 21.15% indicated for one year interest rate, meaning to prorate it to 270 days you do 21.15%/365 * 270 = 15.64%? Meaning it is 15.64% that will be paid for the commercial paper of 270 days tenure? Or the 21.15% will be paid for the 270 days CP tenure? Also, are CPs subject to witholding tax? What other fees are charged on CPs?

On money market funds, what are the fees charged and are they charged on the interest earned or charged on the total sum under management? For example, if you put ₦10 million in a money market fund and it earns 10% (1 million) in one year, will the fees be charged on the 1 million earned or the entire 11 million? If on the entire 11 million, what happens when the fund managers don't make any returns? Will they still continue to remove their management fees from your capital?
CPs are discount instrument, hence for a 20% discount rate, you remove the discount value (e.g. N200) from the par or face value (e.g. N1,000) and pay the net amount (N800) to the company borrowing. At the end of the tenure, the company pays you the gross face value (N1,000) less WHT on the discount. If the tenure is less than 365 days (1 year), then you have to pro-rate accordingly.
