bastardson: Is Oando a buy at 48?
Na the money wey I wan use for Chams I dey plan put inside Before you buy, consider these questions/factors: i. Do you have the appetite for the risk that Oando carries? ii. Do you appreciate the potential future prospects and value of the company? iii. Are you willing to wait for the long term (possibly more than 6 months and in 1 year)? Not buy/sell advice. DYOR Note: I cannot advise a newbie or inexperienced fellow to buy Oando at the moment because of its peculiar situation, even though I am bullish on it. |

Kingpele: Ghana wa....when crude oil full everywhere for southern part of Nigeria ....he doesn't want marketers to import fuel from outside Nigeria yet ,he's doing the worst importing crude oil from outside....but then with ineffective government and confused leadership in NNPC ...why won't him look elsewhere..to continue running his refinery Importing crude oil (raw material) and refining in Nigeria will still create jobs for Nigerians and boost the local petrochemical industries as many by-products can be obtained from crude oil. That is what many countries that do not have crude oil do. e.g. Ghana had a refinery even when they did not have crude oil in the past, and they import crude oil and refine it in their country. It is better than importing refined products. Be reasonable and rational when making comparisons. |

Svoboda: When you kill one Oneida, ten Obeidas will line up to take his place. Israel forgets that Hamas is an ideology. It's an ideology of occupation resistance, and not an association of deranged fellows. It is a well organised movement with clear goals and objectives ingrained in the fibre of every Palestinian. Israel is targeting the military existence of Hamas. The people can have any ideology in their mind, as long they have no military capability to threaten Israel |

awesomeJ: I apologize for the tone.
This is the deal: I already pointed out that you could use dividends to pay off the N2.5m interest, now even if you don't have or use that, you can obviously sell just N3m worth of shares (taxed at about 15%) which will cost you way less in taxes than if you had to sell the entire N50m and pay over 20% average tax rate. The maths is straight forward.
I just thought we needed to beat the back and forth, so we don't derail/spam the thread.
Sorry boss. Thanks. I really appreciate your efforts. God will still bless you abundantly and mightily in this our NGX . Don't forget that. Thanks once again |

awesomeJ: Maybe how would you pay the interest is the question you should ask.
The capital can be rolled over perpetually.
You can easily pay N2.5m interest cost via dividends. What source of funs would be used to repay the capital (before rollover) if there is no selling of the shares, and no other source of income? |

Because my home teacher and one of my favorite teachers in my primary school back in the late 80s was a Ghanaian man...Mr. Danso. Some of them with documented jobs e.g. teachers, nurses, doctors etc. found a way to stay back because their teachers were the best in our secondary schools back then. |

awesomeJ: Depends on the spread between the pricing of the loan and the tax rate.
In developed economies, interest rates are usually below 5% while tax rates are usually above 20%
So if I need 50m to fund my expenses, instead of withdrawing my stocks proceeds and pay N10m as taxes, I'd rather get the N50m as loan and pay N2.5m as interest.
And keep rolling over forever 😀😀
With lending rates at 30% here though, you still need to teach us how it can work. Even with your clever strategy, how would one repay the loan without selling the shares (assuming no other source of income/savings)? |

Dpharisee: Surprisingly Igbos protected Ghanaians during that period and didn't ask them to go like happened in the North and South West except for those who left on their own volition, Ghanaians screaming Igbos Must Go don't know the difference between Nigeria tribes Shut it! Igbos did not protect any Ghanaian! Nobody in the North or South West asked Ghanaians to go. It was the Federal Govt under Shagari and Alex Ekwueme (an Igbo man) that asked Ghanaians to go and their President, Flt. Lt. Jerry Rawlings brought a big ship to carry most of them back to Ghana. Those who could not join the ship found a way to travel back by bus. Some Ghanaians still remained in Lagos, the South West and other states during the time and after others had left. Stop the silly lies! The Igbos did not protect anybody, |

That means if this people were allowed in those days, Nigeria would have predominantly divided between Nigeria and Ghana as another ethnic group in Nigeria Ghanaians are not trouble makers The Nigerians in Ghana in 1969 were more in numbers than the Ghanaians in Nigeria in 1983. Many Nigerians did not leave Ghana in 1969, and many still travelled to Ghana shortly afterwards. |

All the way from Oshogbo area up to Ogbomosho, Ejigbo, Offa and Ilorin axis. The father of the president of Ghana (John Mahama) was married to a Yoruba woman from Offa in Ghana. Toluway: Extracted from GPT.
Here’s how it works under the Nigeria Tax Act (NTA), 2025, effective January 1, 2026 :
---
Key Takeaways:
1. Capital Gain Exemption Thresholds
If your proceeds from share disposal are less than ₦150 million, and your chargeable gain is ₦10 million or less, then the gain is exempt from capital gains tax (CGT) for that 12-month period .
2. Marginal Personal Income Tax Rates Apply
If your gain exceeds those thresholds, the gain would be taxed at your personal income tax rate, with a top marginal rate of 25% .
3. In Your Case – ₦1 Million Gain
₦1 million is well within the ₦10 million exemption threshold, and the proceeds are also far below ₦150 million. This means you would not pay any CGT or PIT on that gain.
---
Summary Table
Scenario Tax Payable
Gain: ₦1 million (below ₦10 million), proceeds < ₦150 million 0% — Exempt Gain exceeding thresholds Personal income tax, up to 25% marginal rate.
From this expose and my layman's interpretation, less than #150m proceed threshold is exempted from CGT. Is this not good for the stock market? Am I mistaken? So consider when someone should make like N500m gain |
