The ministry said that the overall death toll since Israel launched its campaign had risen to 62,686, with another 157,951 injured. The so called ''Ministry'' is part of Hamas set up, so they cannot be reliable. They are counting Hamas terrorists killed in battle as ''Palestinians'' or ''innocent Palestinians'', which is part of their propaganda to mislead and deceive the world for sympathy and support |

Harnny: Was Israel a state when you claimed they were loosing lands through war losses?. Standard practice where? What you have described is annexation and outlawed by the UN. It is okay to bend the rule when it comes to Israel. There is always the Land before a State is declared,! For instance, there was Yoruba land and Igbo land long before Nigeria became a State. Stop limiting or narrowing the issue to when Israel became a modern State. The Land of Israel had been in existence thousands of years before Britain and UN came into existence |

pluto09: That is a bold and pragmatic leader. Others had been too timid to take a seemingly difficult but necessary decisions. Bold? Pragmatic? My brother, thank God you are not too affected by such reckless actions! Ironically, most reckless decisions may appear to be ''bold''. Many people actually take reckless actions for ''boldness'' For instance, a man that walks on the road when there is an oncoming vehicle moving at high speed may appear to be ''bold''. Until his actions leads to destruction of lives and property. An armed robber has to be ''bold'' to commit atrocities that could lead to destruction of lives and property. So I may agree with you. He is ''bold'' to be able to take reckless decisions that led to the destruction of lives, businesses, the economy and well being of millions of Nigerians. |

Joyful365: Bank stocks are the worst form of stocks to hold. They'll keep diluting your shares till what you own is an infinitesimal part of their outstanding shares, at which point you'll practically get next to peanuts even if they declare billions in profit.
Banks ought to buy back a part of their circulating shares during periods of surplus, to create shareholders value, but they won't because they're part of the scam monetary system that feeds off printing money to render people poor. That's why banks print new shares to sell each time they're given new capital requirements.
If you are looking for capital appreciation, avoid most nigerian stocks that have outstanding shares of over 40 billion or more.
You're better off owning commercial papers, treasury bills and government bonds. I think Stanbic IBTC bank did some share buy back several years ago, and that is apparently contributing to their equity returns and high share price. Some of the other banks may do same if they deem their outstanding shares to be too large in size. |

Olaide1295: No recent govt has done it because it’s politically unpopular, not because it is not the right thing to do. Previous governments like Buhari & GEJ are now moneys you want this government to follow? Don’t you see the current rates are market reflective and let investors plan? A friend of mine used his connects and made over 1Billion doing currency arbitrage under Buhari. You want that to continue while hardworking Nigerians struggle for every naira? Your other suggestions aren’t grounded in reality. If you discourage some imports, ppl will simply smuggle them in through Seme and Idi Iroko. I am not even talking about Nigerian govts alone. All over Africa and developing countries, all the progressive govts. do gradual, piece-meal, phased devaluation in order to be able to manage the dislocations. There is no country that did what the man in Abuja did (reckless floating and subsidy removal that has been able to recover and achieve purchase power parity with the dollar, as the earlier OP mentioned. It will not happen. With a weak industrial base, we need to incentivize local producers to produce more. I expected the govt to ban importation of some non-essential items to reduce the pressure on the naira, and then do a gradual, piecemeal management of the exchange rate to avoid the harsh effects of a reckless floatation. |

pluto09: I am not out to defend the government. I just like to put things in perspective. Devaluation will always hurt many and that is not debatable. However, looking at where we were when PBAT took over, the decision to float the naira was not a reckless one but a necessity. So you mean a reckless decision for a necessity or a necessary decision done in recklessness? |

pluto09: You have still not answered my question. If you follow the history of devaluation in the country, you will actually see a pattern. We always go that route when we have exhausted our reserves in trying to defend the naira. The previous administration was busy defending the naira so that people will not suffer spending even the money that we would earn in the future. BAT had two options, either to continue to borrow dollars and spend our earnings upfront to maintain an artificial peg or allow the naira to find its level bearing in mind that both options have consequences Can you mention a govt that floated and devalued the naira pro-rata from N450 to N1,500 in less 6 months in office? Can you do the maths and mention one single govt in the past that did that> I am not talking about the normal piece-meal, gradual devaluation. I am talking about a sudden, drastic, reckless, steep devaluation of a currency from about N450 to N1,500 over night!. Do you know how many people have lost life-changing opportunities because of that e.g. inability to gain admission or continue their education abroad; companies that have incurred huge losses and laid off employees, high costs of living and hardship etc? |

This govt is not the only one that has met shortage of dollars upon assumption of office. But no previous govt was that reckless to just float the naira and allow fictitious so called ''market forces'' to determine the rate. What responsible govts. in developing countries do is to manage the exchange rate so that it would not destroy or harm businesses and the economy too harshly or too drastically. This govt is just clueless and reckless in the way they destroyed the naira. I would rather enact policies that would discourage the importation of non-essential goods, cut down size of govt and wasteful expenditures, corruption etc. I would not spend billions to refurbish a new mansion for the President or his Vice,. I would not award a N16 trillion ($11b) road contract in a hurry, in dubious circumstances to cronies without due process, without budget appropriation, without tender, without NASS authorization. Everywhere in the world people disagree with the policy makers but that doesn't mean they are right, policy makers have access to some information that people from outside can't see. We just need to start somewhere, when these guys started working on stablising the naira, you always come with plenty reasons why you think it wouldn't work but today you agreed naira has been stablised and you are talking about appreciation, we gave them the job because we believed in them, pls let them fldo their job the way they believed uptimum results can be achieved. lionshare: It's not necessary to strengthen the naira right now; maintaining stability is more important. Forcing appreciation could create instability and reverse recent gains. Sustained stability will, over time, move us closer to purchasing power parity with the dollar and help manage inflation. We are very good at playing with fantastic rhetoric. What '' recent gains'' have we achieved and how would strengthening the value of the naira create '' instability'' in a country that is heavily dependent on imports? The only so called ''stability'' we have now is the near-total dislocation of the economy caused by the reckless floatation and devaluation of the naira from N550 to N1,550. There would not be any purchasing power parity with the dollar as long as there is cost-push, import induced inflation, and a weak industrial base. |

The Prince died in Guaton It was the late Oba that wanted to rewrite history in this century, unfortunately for him, things were documented long ago. The Benin Kingdom was established before the Oyo, both by Oranmiyan. So the Oba if Benin's throne is and superior and senior to Alaafin. The Oyo Kingdom was only recognized because if military prowess, not because of historical or spiritual hierarchy. |

Some people just like to write anything to make themselves happy. They want the Jews to accept what they (Arabs) can never ever tolerate. Just imagine if the Romans had defeated and sacked the Arabs from Mecca, Medina and other important towns or places in Saudi Arabia including the Kaaba. And then some centuries later, the Jews take over Mecca, Medina claiming the land belongs to them. One can just imagine the total carnage, destruction and religious war (Jihad) that would have been declared everywhere against all Jews and possibly other tribes and/or religions. |

Unbiased1: For an issue that has lasted 77 years with no end in sight, one party surely has to give way for the other to have peace. A report released early this year showed that of the 17,000 Hamas members killed by Israel, Hamas has successfully replaced them with recruits. Where did the recruits come from? You guessed right, the "peaceful and innocent civilians". We are looking for a savage group of people who teach their children the benefits of death (martyrdom), the need to kill the Jews and reclaim Al Quds (Jerusalem), etc. We are looking at a society filled mainly with savage extremists, a people who trooped out to celebrate the 9/11 World Trade Centre attack in the US, a people who joined Hamas to kidnap innocent Israelis at a music festival, some of them held these captives hostage in their homes. CCTV footage from different homes in Southern Israel showed Palestinian civilians assaulting Israeli citizens, ransacking homes and looting properties alongside fully kitted Hamas fighters, those who poured out on the streets to celebrate while Hamas paraded the naked body of an Israeli girl taken from the music festival and raped and beaten to death. Earlier this year, Hamas fighters brought out the coffins of the Bibas family, consisting of 2 dead babies and their mother, and we saw these savages called Palestinians celebrate, including Palestinian teenagers, all celebrating as Hamas paraded the coffins of 2 babies and their mother after previously killing their dad.
At what point does Israel say, "Enough is enough"? It's either they go or we go. At this point, Israel can't exterminate all the Palestinians, but Israel can set a deterrence and cut off all relations with the Palestinians, including a total migration ban on all of them. Palestinians should no longer be allowed into Israel, either for work, healthcare, or any other reason. The bombardments taking place in Gaza are well deserved and should continue until Hamas surrenders. I refuse to cry more than the bereaved. If Hamas doesn't care about its own people, I also don't care about them. A former Prime Minister of Israel once said, "Peace will come when the Arabs will love their children more than they hate us.", Golda Meir. Their propaganda machine and media would tell you that 62,000 "Palestinians" have been killed by IDF in the war. So all the dead are described as "innocent Palestinians" including Hamas terrorists who were gunned down in battle. They call those savage Hamas terrorists "innocent Palestinians"! Can you believe that?! That should tell you the reckless lies designed to mislead people. |

Unbiased1: Question 1: Do you believe that the Jews are God's chosen people and the "Holy Land" is theirs by right of Divine appointment and covenant? People view the issue in Palestine either from a religious point or a historic point of view. I view things more from a historical point of view, which I think is rich enough to defend my support for Israel. This does not mean that those who view things from a religious point of view are totally wrong, especially when it's clear that we are dealing with a terrorist group that started this war, not to create a Palestinian state, but to achieve Jihad based on what was issued in their religious book. Also, we can't completely rule out the religious books, as those books document actual historical events. So do I think Jews are God's chosen people, hell YES. In my own tradition, I'm also a special person. As long as you believe in the Jewish God, then YES, the Jews are the chosen people of their God, as boldly written in the Torah and Old Testament, but for the sake of Logic, let's leave out the religious views and focus only on the historical point of view.
Question 2: Do you believe that Palestinians have a right to sovereignty of their own? All indigenous people have the right to self-determination. The Jews sought self-determination in 1937, but it was rejected by the Arabs. The Jews sought self-determination in 1947/1948, but it was once again rejected by the Arabs. This time around, the Arabs declared war and lost. The Palestinians have the right to sovereignty, but they are fully responsible for their lack of independence today. The Arabs had gotten Jordan, which was 78% of Palestine. The British banned Jews from settling there, and so Jordan was 100% Arab. The UN proceeded to split the remaining 22% in half in 1947, giving 56% of it to the Jews and 44% to the Arabs. This was the best for the Arabs to accept their independence in peace, but they chose war instead. After they lost the war, they had 20 years, from 1948 - 1967, to declare their independence, but they instead prepared for another war, a war that changed the region forever.
Question 3: Do you believe that there have been wrongs on both sides? You are right to claim that there have been wrongs on both sides. No one is above mistakes. There will always be miscalculations. My brother, they would not believe in your analyses and facts once the prognoses do not support their expectation and jaundiced bias. They formulate and set up lies, believe in the lies, and parrot them expecting others to be gullible and naive enough to gulp them hook, line and sinker. When one insists on the bitter truth, they start throwing insults and calling one derogatory names. If you ask them to provide the chronology and names of kings who had ruled over the contested land to confirm which side had superior historical sovereignty over it, they cannot mention one name , yet there is a long list of Kings of Israel who had ruled over Judea and Samaria, Hebron, Jerusalem, Bethlehem, Beersheba etc, and they still claim the land does not belong to Israel. |

DeepSight: The bold is evidence of your duplicity. That is not what you said. You said they should leave the land and find somewhere else to live. That is ethnic cleansing. "Leave Israel alone" has an entirely different meaning and you know it.
The red is beyond disingenous. Someone above, IdaytesJ29, urged you not to tell naked lies.
As for the Quoran, you cannot teach me about what a barbaric book it is. I know it is. Just as the Old Testament of the Bible which the Jews subscribe to is equally barbaric. These are terrible religions which have very lamentable moral codes in certain matters. I am not a religious person. But for you, Israel are God's people and God has promised them the land. I dont believe in any such thing.
That belief is what is at the root of your total support for Israel. And in that, you dont even care that they reject your Christ. Please show me where I specifically said the Palestinians should find somewhere else to live.. I have not said so. But by their conduct, attitude and actions of trying to forcefully take Israel's and destroy it, if things continue like this, it may come to such a situation. The Bible and Quran are not just religious books. They also contain records and evidence for good reference. The fight between Israel and the Palestinians is still going on because the people have deliberately refused to refer to the evidence and record in both books as a guide. |
