Sharing oil windfall since 1970s Udoji Awards with nothing to show. That was a time when countries like Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia ect were using their money to build infastrcture for development but Nigeria was sharing money to civil servants to buy colour television, sound systems, cars and marry more wives. |

Foreign Affairs › Re: Palm Sunday In Iran: A Story They Won’t Tell You (pics) by mikeapollo: 12:14pm On Mar 31 |
Salubata: At a time when tensions are escalating globally, with growing hostility involving Iran, Israel, and the United States, you would expect a country constantly portrayed as extreme and intolerant to suppress any form of religious diversity. But reality, as always, tells a more complex story.
While access to one of Christianity’s holiest sites, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, Jerusalem was reportedly restricted, Christians in Iranian cities like Tehran, Tabriz, and Urmia still gathered to mark Palm Sunday, openly practicing their faith even amid the anxiety of conflict and the sound of bombings in the region.
Let that sink in. In the middle of geopolitical tension, sanctions, and threats of war, religious minorities are still observing their traditions. Not erased. Not hidden. Still present. Yet, I came across a comment claiming that the real fear is Iran “Islamising the whole world.” That statement reflects something deeper, not reality, but perception shaped over years.
Because if we’re being honest, the same Iranian state being feared globally hasn’t even imposed a single, uniform religious identity across its own population. There are still churches. There are still Christians. There are still public observances like this.
So the question becomes: what are we really reacting to? facts, or narratives? For decades, especially since the early 2000s, fear has been one of the most powerful tools used in global politics. Entire regions were destabilized under the banner of “security” and “liberation,” based on narratives that were rarely questioned deeply enough. Today, similar patterns continue: repeated messaging, selective coverage, and emotionally charged framing.
This is not about defending any government or ignoring political realities. It’s about refusing to be intellectually passive. Because when the image you’ve been sold doesn’t fully match what you can clearly see, it should at least make you pause.
Think. Question. Look deeper. Not everything is as simple or as one-sided as it is presented. Those people are hiding to worship in a church in Iran or the church is in a very obscure location. Why not ask for the number of open church services that are allowed in a country of over 90million people. |
Foreign Affairs › Re: Israel Approves Death Penalty For Palestinians (pic) by mikeapollo: 12:11pm On Mar 31 |
PMForce: Evidence that Palestinians came from another land than canan. The Arabs that are now being called ''Palestinians'' never came from Canaan. The land of Israel belongs to Israelites and Jews. All the tribes on the land had either been conquered, or assimilated or inter-married with Israelites and the Israelites had produced several kings on the land in their long history. The ''Palestinians'' are Arabs from Syria, Egypt, Jordan who migrated to live in the land of Israel but refused to leave when the State of Israel was declared in 1948. Their counterparts that accepted to live in peace with Israel after its creation are all living in Israel today as Araba Israelis with all the rights, privileges, freedoms of citizenship. |

VOsimhen144: Nigerians should learn to respect other country’s decisions. If South Africa 🇿🇦 doesn’t want a king in Nigeria’s community over there then obey their instructions.
Una no find “leader or chairman” as title, you people went as far as “king”. That’s was too deep.
One secret you should know is that South Africans see Nigerians as a very big threat, so please let be guided. Nobody sees Nigerians as a threat. Rather, they see us as big nuisance when we fail to respect their laws and cultural values. Just respect the laws and cultural values of their country. Period! |

ppogba: In simple terms, it is just about Sanusi showing is typical VINDICTIVE nature. He had axe to grind with Akingbola and Mama Ibru as at then. As at the time the two banks were taken over, Skye Bank then was systemically injured and wounded.
Bottom line, never joke with a contemporary on the same level with you who suddenly gets upgraded above you. Especially as a regulator. Above all, a crab can swallow a Whale in Nigeria. The bolded is inaccurate and misleading. A CBN governor cannot just liquidate a whole bank just because of vindictiveness or because he/she did not like the CEO. There are rules and laws that guide the operations of banks. Let's stop this tendency of bringing up wild, unfounded conspiracy theories to support or defend big men who might have committed crimes or looted and destroyed our institutions., thereby jeopardizing the economy and millions of jobs. Has Akingbola, Ibru or any other former CEOS been able to challenge the CBN in court and won? I think Bank PHB went to court and they lost! For instance in the case of Ibru, one of her atrocities was that she approved huge personal loans (unapproved by the Board of Oceanic Bank), collected the money, and then used it to build hundreds of branches which she then rented out to the bank at huge annual sums. What do you call that? Depositors funds were being endangered in all these. There were several other issues as well. The truth is, we needed a no-nonsense person like Sanusi, who was bold enough to stand up against the crimes going on in the banking sector, the oil sector with NNPC, and even the legislators who were consuming 25% of national overheads and nobody could talk. We Nigerians always complain that many things are wrong in the country but when we see someone who is bold enough to address these things, we turn around to cook some funny excuses, rumours and stories to muddle the issues |

EDUECO: Why are you so concerned about ACCESSCORP that will pay dividend for 2025 financial year?
You should be concerned about Last Bank (First Bank) that won't pay dividend, but the stock price has been pump from ₦30 to ₦52. I don't understand your comment. Somebody said he is not seeing the price of Access on the equity list and I told him Access is selling around N26. And I jokingly asked him if he was feeling dizzy. ppogba: If you are familiar with the position of the two banks then, what Access was owing Intercontinental had nothing to do with the normal short term inter- bank settlement or indebtedness. Akingbola bailed out Access at a point when their position was precarious. You may wish to argue further perhaps just like I said, if you are not deeply familiar with the case then.
As a caveat, my position is not to pass judge me on any body. My comments are general, and not meant to contest or disprove your opinion. Access Bank management might have betrayed Akingbola, which is bad! But the bottom line and fundamental question(s) is/are: Which person or entity broke the Banking law and regulations in a way that compromised or endangered depositors funds and financial health of his bank? Access Bank might have committed some infractions but not all infractions have the same consequences or penalties Access might have been struggling when Intercontinental was doing much better and helping them. But the entity that broke the law and jeopardized depositors funds and financial health of the bank is the one whose license would be revoked. It was just bad that the people that Akingbola helped turned around to betray him (if the story is true). This however does not absolve Akingbola of the wrongs and offences that CB accused him of. Betrayal by friends or partners in business is painful and bad, but there is no law against it. Same way Otedola said Tony Elumelu betrayed him. |
