Emir of Borgu Halliru Dantoro in an interview granted to the Thisday has explained why he made Bola Ahmed Tinubu “The Jagaban”, meaning “Leader of warriors”. Dantoro said that he had a common interest with the national leader of the All Progressives Congress Tinubu when it came to telling the truth. His words: “I knew Bola Ahmed Tinubu when we were at the National Assembly as senators. He belonged to a different party (SDP) while I was in NRC. But we had a common interest when it came to telling the truth. We said it as it was then. He knew my vision even when the June 12 issue was in the front burner. I could see the injustices and I stood by fairness because I detest injustice. “You can see that I identified myself with the aspiration of Nigerians. At one time he said he wanted me to go and see Late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Abiola but I told him I never had any need from Abiola. If I went there, that meant I was going there for money. But what we were doing was right and posterity will judge us. So we had a lot of things in common and we had been friends since then. “He saw me as being straightforward, honest and sincere in all my dealings with him. Not for any material gain. In fact, when I began my legal sojourn in the Emirship tussle he also supported me in terms of advice because it was a tough battle for me. It was tough taking on the government and we had to employ the services of a senior advocate of Nigeria in the person of Wole Olanipekun. “When God made me the Emir I said this man was there when I was in dire need of help so why can’t I use my position to make him what I feel will help him in future politically. That was why I honoured him with the title of ‘Jagaban.’ Jagaban means ‘Leader of Warriors.” Jagaban is a title, which has gained prominence, particularly among different followers and political allies. But not many are aware that the chieftaincy title was bestowed on the former senator by His Royal Highness, Alhaji Haliru Dantoro III, the Emir of Borgu (New Bussa, Niger State). The Borgu Emirate is a Nigerian traditional state with its capital in New Bussa. It was formed in 1954 when the Bussa and Kaiama emirates were merged. John Mikel Obi’s time at Chelsea seems to be up. His manager, Jose Mourinho has repeatedly said that he is interested in buying one more midfielder to add more spine to his team and the most obvious casualty is 28 year old Mikel Obi. According to Goal, Mourinho has already told Mikel that he will be sold as he targets another midfielder to challenge Namanja Matic. The blues are said to be interested in Alex Witsel of Zenit st. Petersburg to replace the super eagles midfielder and Baba Rahman who has impressed in Bundesliga in the past two seasons. 26 years old Witsel, is eager to leave Zenit for a new challenge after winning the Russian Premier Leage with the club and Andres Villas Boas. Axel Witsel The Belgian midfielder has previously stated that he would appreciate a move to Juventus but the old lady signed Sami Khedira which means a move to Italy will not be happening. Mourinho wants Chelsea to build on their league triumph and sees Witsel as a direct replacement for Mikel Obi. Jose Mourinho and Alex Witsel are both represented by super agent, Jorge Mendes which means a move for the big Belgian is feasible. Witsel cost Zenit €40 million when he signed from Benfica in 2012. Also, Chelsea are considering a swoop for Augsburg left-back, 20 year old Baba Rahman who has been impressive in Germany. Another report also indicates that Jose Mourinho could be interested in signing Manchester United flop, Radamel Falcao after admitting that he would like to restore the striker to former glory. Earlier this week, Mikel Obi’s agent announced that the midfielder could be moving to a Dubai based club , Al Ain. He said “It is now left for Chelsea and the Dubai club Al Ain to agree on a transfer fee.” Cc:lalasticlala Source: http://www.naij.com/464877-chelsea-set-to-replace-mikel-obi-with.html

Lagosians have been warned to stay away from coastal beaches in case of in an impending ocean surge that could occur at any time. The warning was contained in a statement by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on Wednesday, June 17. Lagos state is not new to ocean surges especially the Victoria Island area of Lagos which has been affected by surges from Bar beach and Kuramo beach. NEMA urged all beach goers in the state and boat operators to be safety conscious to avert loss of life and property during any possible surge. The statement, which was issued by south-west spokesperson for NEMA, Ibrahim Farinloye, reads in part: “NEMA is advising all users of inland waterways and fun seekers on the beaches and coastal lines to exercise utmost cautions in the face of turbulent nature of the sea. “NEMA and other stakeholders have alerted ferry/ boats operators on the situations and they are already applying safety measures as dynamic as the situations in case of emergency.” Earlier this month, the Lagos state government alerted residents, especially those residing in flood- prone areas to relocate immediately as the water table has risen due to the high rainfall. Flood-plain areas highlighted include Ajegunle, Owode-Onirin axis, Owode-Elelede, Kuramo Beach, Alpha Beach, Okun-Mapo, Okun Ajah, Mende-Maryland, Ijora-Badia, Iwaya, among others. With allegations of massive fraud bedeviling the nation, the upper and lower chambers of the National Assembly have been advised to start investigations into the activities of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), focusing mainly on the areas of the crude oil swap scheme and Offshore Processing Agreements (OPA). Yesterday, the Lagos lawyer and human rights activist, Festus Keyamo made this call in a letter addressed to the Senate president and the speaker of the House of Representatives, in which he alleged the looting of the country’s resources by some NNPC officials in collaboration with some local companies. The scheme called crude oil swaps is an arrangement in which about 50 per cent of the nation’s daily quota of crude oil which is meant for domestic refining and consumption is given to some local companies in the oil and gas sector to sell the products on the international market. Thereafter, these companies import petroleum products, including derivatives or byproducts on behalf of the NNPC and PPMC and have them sold and distributed in the country. This programme was put in place because the local refineries were incapable of operating at their fully installed capacities. They did not have the ability to refine all the nation’s daily domestic quota of crude oil. Likewise, the Offshore Processing Agreements (OPAs) refer to the allocation of the daily domestic quota of crude oil to some local companies so that the companies will take the crude oil to refineries outside the country and have them refine the crude into petroleum products, including derivatives or byproducts. These local companies would also be in charge of importing the finished petroleum products into the country on behalf of the PPMC. According to Keyamo, there has been “colossal fraud in both programmes” in recent years. “The fraud occurs when far less quantity of petroleum products, byproducts and derivatives are imported into the country by the local companies in exchange for the crude oil allocated to them by the NNPC,” he alleged. He went on to say that: “The staggering shortfalls in the imported products are done with the active connivance, collusion and knowledge of the officials of the NNPC. The proceeds are, of course, subsequently shared between the NNPC officials and these local companies. “In fact, it is reported that a colossal sum of about $50billion have been stolen by these people through these fraudulent programmes in the last few years.” The activist did not hesitate to give the names of some NNPC officials, who he believes are the brains behind the scam. He said most of them were already under investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Directorate of State Security (DSS) “I humbly request that you direct your searchlight on the Managing Director, NPDC, Mr. Tony Moneke; Executive Director, Commercial, PPMC, Mr. Frank Amejo; Group General Manager, Crude Oil Marketing Division, Mr. Gbenga Komolafe and former Managing Director, NPDC, and later NNPC Group Executive Director, E & P, Mr. Abiye Membere. “I also urge you to invite the following private, local companies in the oil and gas sector in the course of your probe to assist in getting to the bottom of the whole sordid affair: AITEO that is owned by Mr. Benny Peters; Sahara Energy owned by Tonye Cole; Tope Sonubi and Ade Odunsi; Ontario Oil and Gas owned by Walter Wagbatsoma and Taleveras founded by Mr. Igho Sanomi,” he said Keyamo also called for a proper probe into the role that the immediate past Minister of petroleum resources, Deziani Alison-Madueke may have played in defrauding the nation. He said:“Though I understand she also wrote a petition in this regard few days before leaving office, but it is not always the case that it is the person that runs first to the police station to report an incident that is the victim.” “I find it extremely curious that she waited till a few days to the end of her tenure before writing that petition. I also find it curious that she wrote a petition in respect of matters over which she had total control and in respect of which she had complete access to all the documents and personnel involved. In fact, the above-mentioned personnel were her subordinates whom she could have queried long ago if she smelt any rat,” he added He made sure to reminded the lawmakers of their investigative responsibility and powers preserved under section 88(2)(b) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), which is to ‘expose corruption, inefficiency or waste in the execution or administration of laws within its legislative competence and in the disbursement or administration of funds appropriated by it’. “The danger in not exposing these acts of corruption through open and public hearings is that even the investigators may be tempted to engage in cover- ups and under-hand dealings because of the colossal sums involved in these shady deals,” he noted. President Buhari has continually said that his government will tackle corruption squarely, and he has continued to say that all corrupt officials will be expunged from his administration. Many Nigerians have joined in this fight, raising their voices in support of the campaign to rid Nigeria of corrupt officials. The House of representatives election that brought in Sulaiman Yusuf Lasun as the deputy speaker of the house has been rejected by the Elder Council of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Daily Independent reports. The Osun APC who also dissasociated themselves from Lasun saying the speaker won his position as a result of personal interest and vaulting ambition detrimental to the progress and stability of the party. At a meeting held on Wednesday, 17 June 2015 at the party secretariat in Osogbo, Osun state capital, the leadership of the party in the state described Lasun’s inauguration as despicable act of betrayal and disloyalty adding that his emergence was a breach and negation of the party’s directive. In a communique issued and signed by the party’s chairman and secretary, Prince Felix Awofisayo and Barrister Gbadegesin Adedeji respectively, the party said the action of Hon. Lasun Yusuf accepting the position was condemnable and anti-party tendency. The copy of the communique was made available to the Daily independent. The elders called Lasun’s action a disrespect to the party leadership, adding that such actions lead to mutiny and indiscipline in the party if not arrested. On Wednesday, Lasun claimed that some chieftains of the APC had asked him to step down from his position for the party’s choice, Femi Gbajabiamila. Meanwhile, members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the House of Representatives have called for the resignation Lasun saying his emergence is a breach of agreement they had with their APC counterparts loyal to the new speaker, Yakubu Dogara, in which they agreed that the PDP’s Leo Ogor will emerge as the deputy speaker.
