So I came across this topic just a few minutes ago, https://www.nairaland.com/3399398/10-things-mother-never-toldAnd this part got me thinking: 5. She knows she’s not perfect. She is her own worst critic. She knows all her flaws and sometimes hates herself for them. She is hardest on herself when it comes to you, though. She wanted to be the perfect mom, to do nothing wrong — but because she is human, she made mistakes. She is probably still trying to forgive herself for them. She wishes with her whole heart that she could go back in time and do things differently, but she can’t, so be kind to her, and know she did the best she knew how to do. Are there actually people who think they are perfect? In case you didn't know, the answer is YES. It's not really that these people see themselves as 100% perfect, it is that they don't see their flaws as imperfections. My flaws include - 1. I'm sweet natured to a fault and many people have taken advantage of this, I would have loved to be more mean in certain situations. 2. I cry over the littlest things, I shouldn't be doing this but I can't help it. 3. I get caught in a lie everytime, I suck at it. YES I consider this a flaw, I should be able to lie convincingly sometimes Okay that's all I can think of at the moment. Now the floor is open to you all, list out the thing(s) you consider your flaws. No specific number. This isn't meant to embarrass no one, just some light-hearted fun if you're the kind of person who is not afraid to make fun of yourself and doesn't take yourself way too seriously. |

Mattin: Permit me to quote you. Nairaland of today is characterize mostly by 'teenagers' and 'yet to know about life' individuals. The mods and supermods are not even helping matters either. No creative, constructive, insightful, brainstorming etc topics and comments on the forum again. It leaves me no doubt that these set of people you guys mentioned whom I've known too are either tired of the system or left for good. The Nairaland I used to be addicted to has now become a once in 2/3 weeks visitation
Oh Nairaland! Where art thy glory of the past? Cc Seun do something Nairaland didn't really change, just that old users are no more. Been here since 07 though I deactivated and returned and it's still the same but just with a new set of people. Those people mentioned don't even qualify as people who created or gave insightful, constructive,or brainstorming topics, they were actually the ones who go about e-fighting and cursing especially coogar and babymama. Only idowu was the comical one. Nairaland has always been battles upon battles, there was a time it was between Nigerians in diaspora(NID) versus Nigerians in Nigeria(NIN), I remember how bloody that was. Then it was christians versus Muslims versus Atheist battles, then Igbo versus Yoruba wars which is still visible. Then there was the feminism versus anti-feminism wars, which is now male versus female these days. Its always been one war or the other on this forum. The only noticeable thing now on NL is that the diasporan community on NL has reduced tremendously probably because the NIN no longer care about diasporans and curse everyone equally.,trust me I know cos I was on the NID side of the war back then And guess what, most of the people on that list are all diasporans. |

But Okafor's wife says she never had sex with Ogbonna, but that she used his sperm for artificial insemination and so this can't be cheating. My question is,why did Mrs. Okafor's use Mr. Ogbonna's sperm for artificial insemination without her husband's knowledge? And how come the sperm donor lives right in the same compound as the sperm recipient? |

Appleyard: Don't mind them and their Main Stream Media misinformed gentlemen down here. When during the cold war the Soviets moved nukes to Cuba as response to US nukes in Turkey and the SOS call from the Castro government, the whole planet almost experienced a catastrophic engagement of thermonuclear warfare that was only averted at the last minutes. Now, we are seeing a repeated act of that fearsome moment, especially when it was been done needlessly and out of sheer stupidity. And now that some of those nations that it concerns are standing up against this hordes of hell marching, all we can hear from our brothers at the other end of the divide, is the reechoing of the popular propaganda by western MSM that the defending nation (s) is the aggressor, not caring even to sit back one time and reminisce on the real possibility. What is wrong with and affecting the judgment of the lots of these America-can-never-do-wrong club of mendacity, is their inability to fully grasp and understand the notion of "realpolitiks". They simply don't understand what constitute as "threat" to some selected nations that are renowned masters and key players of geopolitics. To them, anything America says and do is the actual and ONLY acceptable way; and if its not by America, for America or in America's interest, then it can't be accepted or judged to be of standard. Such is the prevailing wisdom in the west and among some of our jingoist friends here: that explain why they feel America can bomb, terrorise, bully or blatantly provoke other nations at will, conducting drills close to their territorial waters, for which, no one must complain, and when we do, the only thing they can tell you is that, you are jealous of their wealth and freedom, and is because you weren't granted visas to America. Very pathetic.
Yes! America is always on its toes when confronted or challenged by a country of similar power, and its because it can't afford to look weak in the eyes of the committee of nations, which is a very dangerous thing because it means that they don't even known when to back down and let sleeping dogs lie. Again, when a bully meet an equal bully, a decisive one for that matter, its then the formal remembers that there exist legal and diplomatic means of settling disputes (like the UN Security Council) instead of military force. And this is exactly what America and its NATO ( Nationalized American Terrorist Organization) lap dog are learning in Syria right now. They have thrown everything at Russia-from Sanctions and evil economic forcast and the SU-24 Turkey shot down-to provocations in the Ukraine, but in all, they have lost out-Crimea, Erdogan U-turn, counter sanctions, and Assad still thriving. And now that they have painfully discovered that the opposing player this time around is equally a bully and a master of dirty politics as well, they have (just like you said) rushed down to the UN security council using France to draft a new resolution calling for truce and seeking Russia to please, halt hostilities in Syria. But The Russians have vetoed the draft resolution, making it clear, per Churkin, that play time is over. It's either you stick to our deal or no deal at all. This thing happened today, and you need to see the pain and disappointment in their faces. What Russia did was called their bluff and up the ante against them that, "since you don't want peace, then bring on the war".
My sister, you need to see the face of the British representative to the UN during the meeting today, especially when the Russian side mimicked him, "Russia, please stop, stop, stop!"
The ediots are now learning the street code that no Man Is King Of the Streets.
Pathetic sons of Lucifer. Hopefully, the issue in Syria doesn't deteriorate into something much worse. |

Mindfulness: Yes it is and the source is even moe interesting, it's a passage taken from the Bible and ffor the first time used in a political context by John Winthrop, one of America's founding fathers. It shouldn't actually be sursprising since we all know that the Christian faith seeks to crusade and therefore set the standards for people and peoples of other beliefs. It's a religion that has been seeking to dominate, even more before the Age of Enlightenment.
So tell me, would you condemn Christianity entirely for all the sins its adherents have committed? Christianity seeks to dominate? I'm not so sure about that, maybe you can give specific examples of this. Islam is the religion that is most synonymous with domination in my opinion, and even at that, jihadists don't represent the entire religion. That's the problem.
There have been two world wars at the beginning of the 20th century and some countries till seek to dominate by force. It's not 18th century, it's still the modus operandi for many.
China's political elite has a lot to show for and theyy have contributed a lot in terms of cooperation and contribution of world peace in the last decades BUT the Chinese governement's opposition to the bid of two of its important neighbors—India and Japan—to become permanent members of the United Nations Security Council (even they are a permanent member themselves, only 5 of over 190 countries are permanent members ) has proved to be an irritant in their respective relationships. It's domination by force as well. Your new attack on China seems to be coming from the angle that I mentioned her as a country which uses systematic world domination through technology. I get it,you love America, but China alone cannot stop any country from becoming a permanent member of the UN security council. Every nation is first and foremost interested in peace and stability in their own country. Which is why the US needs to focus inwards and not meddle in the affairs of other countries. With police brutality, killings, increased crime rates, and high domestic threats of terrorism, the US isn't peaceful. Besides, those countries invaded by the US have become worse than they were before US intervention. Never has been and never will be. Sure |

tearoses: You may be right, the number of men who dont give their wives access to their only car may be many, but that doesn't mean that its right
You also seem to under estimate the number of responsible people out there. I know that nairaland is full of stories that paints both men and women as demons all the time, but there are many many decent level headed men and women out there, running happy and peaceful homes, just that you don't get to hear it.
Unfortunately When people praise their partners or talk about their homes, people say they are showing off or lying so lets keep on hearing the bad stories. At least it makes one appreciate the good things more.
A man who fully understands the responsibilities involved in leadership, will not have a problem with making sure that his wife and kids are comfortable even at his own expense. If he wont sacrifice for his families comfort who will? is it his neighbour?
Being the man is not just about swallowing huge morsels of eba washed down with stout. The responsibility is huge. Your colleague understands that. A man prancing round town in his Prado giving chicks rides while is wife is standing at a bus stop somewhere in the sun with a child strapped to her back and another child being held on her hand is a disappointment of a man.
Your colleague probably only drives to the office and parks while his wife does school runs, market runs, work and other running around. He knows what he is doing. His wife has not washed her panties into his efo as some people like to believe when a man is putting his wife and family first. How you always manage to pass your opinions so effectively and objectively is refreshing to me |

Mindfulness: You don't even have to follow politics - even though I do - to know that their national identity is largely and still based on the perception that they are the ones to set the standards:
"... I have been guided by the standard John Winthrop set before his shipmates on the flagship Arbella three hundred and thirty-one years ago, as they, too, faced the task of building a new government on a perilous frontier. "We must always consider", he said, "that we shall be as a city upon a hill—the eyes of all people are upon us". Today the eyes of all people are truly upon us—and our governments, in every branch, at every level, national, state and local, must be as a city upon a hill—constructed and inhabited by men aware of their great trust and their great responsibilities. For we are setting out upon a voyage in 1961 no less hazardous than that undertaken by the Arbella in 1630."
On 9 January 1961, President-Elect John F. Kennedy returned to Winthrop's phrase and he wasn't the only one. Interesting piece What makes you think that I am disputing it?
My first post - the one that brought you here - was:
America has a long histor of slavery with slaves taken from West Africa.
People around the world watch the police shootings targeting young Blacks.
America's reputation (not only in Nigeria) is not clean. We can't deny that America's wars have often served their best interest.
America has been trying to impose their gay laws on African cultures, it's considered neo-colonialism, not an enforcement of human rights, which most Nigerians do not even enjoy in Nigeria.
Nigerians have been brainwashed into believing that other countries are controlling their misfortune so that their leaders can fill their pockets with the development aid coming from the USA or other countries. I wasnt implying YOU were disputing it,I was typing in broader terms I don't believe in domination whether it's American, Chinese or Russian, I believe in coorperation. 1. I don't know who you refer to as we but you haven't moved from domination. On a more serious note, a great number of people hasn't moved from domination by force.
2. The US have allies - you can call them friends - if you want. What makes you think they want to make friends in the Middle East or with Russia?
@bold
I don't understand. 1. We,in reference to modern society. Domination by force is so 18th century There are subtler ways to accomplish this as I noted going by the Chinese playbook. 2. Well well, one would think that the US in its desire for globalization and world peace would be more inclined to make friends. I don't see how cooperation (in your words) and world peace/stability, can be achieved without making friends with everyone. @what you don't understand, i mean that should anarchy arise as a result of over-stepping on some toes, nuclear war won't be good for everyone involved. |

Could be for fun or trolling Which is why I don't take it to heart, used to think family section was restricted to married folk When guys in romance section diss women, its understandable when ladies there feel bad.but married women with husbands in family section shouldn't feel it an inch because they're not here to look for suitors. Family section used to be for matured and married people but a lot of boys who probably moved from romance section have infiltrated the section and that's the reason for a lot of childish and irrational comments.I want to believe some do it just for some evil fun,the same way they do tribal bashings. However, overal it's still a bad thing because it could poison some impressionable young readers who might think it's cool to treat women with disrespect. It's better not to take comments online too seriously, this male versus female thing I see here isn't exclusive to nairaland funny enough. Visit other forums populated by South Africans, British, or Americans, there's always some sort of war going on and this is why I believe most of it is done deliberately to hurt the opposite sex which going by the complaints here, seems to be working. You've got a good partner like I'm sure you do,and I've got a good man in my life, why then should comments from people I'm not married to or dating cause me so much distress. I see all the back and forth, most of the time I laugh it off and forget about it all once I close the nairaland tab on my browser. |

ifenes: The Genesis account will always be confusing because that is the aim of those who put it together. When you accept it,it ends up shaping your past and puts in a Timeline of a distorted past. A degrading past where humans were slaves to the gods. The Time line when the Adamus were created ignorant(not naked). You observed they had no freewill and were made to work the land(slaves). That is a clue there for you.
You said if they were created as kids they would be obedient to god(the gods)...well did the Bible say how long Adam was obedient for? Maybe thousands of years of doing the same routine until someone who watched from the sideline(The Serpent people/the people of knowledge)got bored of watching this tired beasts working the gold mines of the selfish gods....... Some have decided to call them Devils,Satan etc.
When a child has been abused for so long,it takes a responsible person to save him, which was exactly what the Serpent people did. You may think they were really Serpents. No they weren't. Serpent is an esoteric symbol of knowledge. Didn't the Bible itself say be as wise as a Serpent?

He has provided us all the info we need to live the life He intended for us in His word and also given us Holy spirit to guide us. Remember, we only know in part here, but we'll understand better when we see Him. Speculations will only lead us down the wrong path.

Appleyard: I am not trying to woo you over, but I must say your thoughts are very insightful. I can't understand why people can't see how dangerous this world has become for everyone as many countries are now trying to get their hands on some weapons of mass destruction they believe should help them attain freedom from the choking hands of the US led global hegemony. A situation where one nation resort to color coded revolution, assassination, sanctions and outright invasion to overthrow and destroy governments for simply refusing to follow its dictate, is something is now tbreatening the very foundation of global peace. That is why some of us here are so resentful of the US. Left for me, I have nothing against Americans in their own private capacity, all I ever wanted was that their government should allow the world to lice in peace. U don't even know of any HAC club some of these our brothers are talking about, if Nigerians hate Americabs per she, you won't see any long queues on the US embassy. Therefore, their excuse is baseless. our resentment and comments are based on facts. Yea and I believe what you all should just do is argue constructively and debate without the usual rhetorics I read from Lucas and the OP about living in Nigeria and not being able to get visas. This is just degrading and not a good way to argue objectively, that's like saying that Nigerians living in Nigeria MUST worship the US. It makes no sense. About countries trying to pile up on weapons to fortify themselves, the US doesn't even see it that way that's the problem. I mean we keep hearing horror stories of North Korea and Russia, and previously Libya, yet it's the US which promotes globalization and world peace that still ends up invading other countries, destabilizing the region and living them in ruins when they leave. I love the US and its people who are mostly accommodating and friendly in SOME places though, but let no one pretend that the US is the solution to all the world's problems. The country is directly/indirectly responsible for most of the devastation that is still being felt in some war-torn countries this 21st century. |

This is another point I thought about before typing my first response to Mindfulness on the previous page, and after reading this now I remember I didn't type it.lol There's this attitude common with the US military where they feel they have the right to conduct military drills so close to the borders of other countries.Just imagine the Russian or Chinese military conducting drills close to Alaska, USA will summon a UN security council meeting on account of it. I don't consider myself part of this HAC group here, which is why my earlier questions to Mr. Lucas came entirely from this perspective. There's just no way any human who follows world politics and is being objective won't realize how the US sees itself as the standard by which every other nation must be measured. There are more effective ways to dominate the world, but the US seems to only do this by bullying, placing trade restrictions, sanctions, and embargoes on countries that don't do as it wants. This method only breeds antagonism and more anti-american sentiment. Take a look at China and see how they're becoming an economic powerhouse to reckon with just by using a simple yet more effective method suited to this time to dominate, TECHNOLOGY IN REVERSE ENGINEERING. Even read somewhere how some American manufacturers were angry that the Chinese keep manufacturing alternatives to their products at a cheaper price,lol..and they called it BAD. Like seriously, how is that bad? Reverse engineering is a branch of science. We have moved way past from the time when force was used to subdue and dominate regions, this isn't the 18th or 19th century. If the US wants to make friends instead of building up hidden aggression, it needs to quit the show of force and power tactics. Countries that are capable of building a nuclear arsenal are getting more by the day,if everyone decides to say enough is enough, it won't be good for anyone involved. |

Mindfulness: This is how democracies work and yet I won't feel responsible for a president declaring a war that I haven't voted for and I won't take the blame and neither will you. So yes, a president represents his or her country but not necessarily the will of every single person.
I am not here to defend every decision that the American government or people make but the referendum wasn't about Hungary accepting refugees or not but whether there should be a central European quota system deciding how many refugees should be accepted or not. Let's be more precise about it. Moreover, the US have accepted Syrian refugess as far as I am informed (even though relatively few) and they are still the country that allows many migrants in every year.
And yes, I see how many political decisions lead to anti-American sentiments and I understand them perfectly well because I was the one (back then still in school) speaking out loud against the war on Iraq. Today I am helping refugees from Iraq. Welcome to the globalised world!
But I would like you tell me who criticised Hungary (out of curosity) because last time I checked the USA is not a person.
Again, who EXACTLY criticised France? I really want to know. The European Union and the USA see themselves as a union of shared values and one of these values is freedom of religion so an American is justified in pointing out that such a decision can be considered a violation of this value. And it doesn't mean that I don't see that many of them have no right to criticise Europe when their presidential candiadate is well know for his islamophobic statements.
Not a few people and not everyone either. That's the point. Albert Einstein fled Nazi Germany. Was he responsible for Hitler's decisions or was he affected by them in one of the worst ways possible? According to your logic, he was responsible for simply being German, right?
Now you are joking.
I don't live in the most hated country in the world and yet I don't want countries to have nuclear weapons. This is the evidence of human incapacity and pathetic and I wonder why it takes so long for humans to overcome it. And just by the way, who the most country in the world is, very much depends from whose perspective you are looking at it.
Another mistake that many people make is to compare Russia and China. China has an entirely different approach to international politics.
This here is the world wide web and it's not your right to tell me what to think or write, get it? And since you have the freedom to criticise America and so do I, we can also criticise China because the decisions of their governments matter and because it would be hypocritical of you to criticise one country but tell me not to another.
I have a first experience with refugees who lost everything thank to Bush jr. and I see how this war led to the situation the region is now in today but I still won't join the wagon of those who think that every American is to blame for what political elites decided to do or didn't do. Okay then. |
