Rap Music in Nigeria has come a long way. From the days of megede, fregede to the what we have nowadays and its still evolving. Let me start by giving credits to the likes of Junior & Pretty, Zakky Azzay , Weird Mc, MC Smoke, Ruff Rugged & Raw, Nitro, Dr. Fresh, Eedris Abdulkareem , Def’o Clan, Swat Root and the rest. These rap veterans I mentioned did their best for rap music in Nigeria. They strived hard to set up a viable platform for the new generation of rappers we have in Nigeria. Today we have the likes of AQ, Eva Alordiah , Pucado, Loose Kaynon, Splash , Mz Kiss, Rukus ,Lil Kesh, Jhybo, Viktor, Poe, Ajebutter 22, Falz just to mention a few and not forgetting rap heavy weights like M.I , Ice Prince, Olamide, Modenine, Phyno, Ill Bliss, Naeto C, Ikechukwu, Sasha , Vector, Ela Joe , Sinzu, Yung6ix, Rugged man, Reminisce amidst many others.

We will be reviewing the top 10 Nigerian Rap songs of all time. These songs revolutionized the Nigerian rap culture. We will be listing these songs in no particular order because some of the songs in this list were released when Nigerian Rap Music was still struggling to find its feet. EHEN BY RUGGEDMAN : I would love to call this song a breakthrough song for Nigerian Rap music. Although a diss track, this song single handedly revolutionized the Nigerian Rap scene. Ehen by Ruggedman was what the Nigerian Rap game needed at that point in time . The song was an eye opener as he took the likes of Rasqie, Maintain , Eedris Abdulkareem to the cleaners. Ruggedy baba followed up with “Peace or war” which was also well accepted and then “Baraje”. With ‘Baraje” , Ruggedman proved that a Nigerian rap song could be a club banger. “Baraje” was a rap song but also a dance track.

SAFE BY M.I : Mr. Incredible took over the baton from Ruggedman as he emerged the new rap king with his smash hit “Safe” featuring Djinee. Sequel to the release of “Safe”, M.I had previously released “Crowd Mentality” which put him on spotlight and got him an headies for the Next Rated. However the release of “Safe” made him a force to be reckoned with as the song hit Nigeria and the rest of Africa so hard . No one saw the short black boy coming thru with that sort of monster tune. ‘Safe” was a definition of creativity and originally at its peak. Till date M.I has managed to retain the title of the No 1 rapper in Nigeria after overthrowing Ruggedman.

PON PON PON BY DAGRIN : The lyrical werey who has now been promoted to immortal status gave Yoruba rap credibility and bragging rights with his 2nd and last studio album “C.E.O”. The album C.E.O had “Pon Pon Pon” . This song blazed through the music industry and streets even without a video. His death is really a big loss to the Naija rap scene.

CRY BY MODENINE : Malcom IX as he is fondly called is undoubtedly the best lyricist ever repping Naija. He is the apex of lyricism in Nigerian rap. Little wonder he won the lyricist on the roll category at the headies consecutively for 3 years. Modenine has many stand out rap tunes to his credit but “Cry” is one of the best Nigerian song rap song of all time considering its commercial success . Another song that makes me respect modenine is “Elbow Room “ infact I would have gone for ‘Elbow Room” if not that “Cry” was more of a commercial success. Till date “Cry” remains modenine’s most commercial song.

As a result of their effort, the duo were the first recipient of the then Hip Hop World Awards which is now Headies. They went home with the best collaboration award. The song ‘Delicious’ was really delicious.

A top UK newspaper, Daily mail mistakenly listed a Nigerian girl as one of the likely casualties of the Nice, France terror attack.

On seeing her photo among the missing people and victims of the Bastille day truck massacre, Adamara ajuzie quickly took to her instagram handle to cry out to the U.K. newspaper to immediately remove her photo from the list. Here is what she posted:


“I woke up this morning to this fake news with my photo among the missing people in Bastille attack. People have been calling and wailing and sympathizing with my family!!! This isn’t funny, get your sources and facts right before making it public. My covenant with God is that I leave this earth at 100years old and I cannot die by accident or any tragic incident So please stop wishing me death!!!!

Synagogue church’s trustees, engineers arraigned for manslaughter
The Trustees of the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN) and two engineers were on Tuesday arraigned at the Lagos High Court sitting in Ikeja over the collapse building belonging to the church on September 12, 2014, which led to the death of 116 persons.


Justice Lateef Lawal-Akapo allowed the arraignment of SCOAN Trustees, Hardrock Construction and Engineering Company, and Jadny Trust Limited as well as the two engineers who constructed the collapsed building, Messrs Oladele Ogundeji and Akinbela Fatiregun after dismissing the application filed by the defendants seeking to quash the charge.


It will be recalled that the Lagos State Government had late last year, filed 111 count criminal charges against the Synagogue Trustees and the two engineers that supervised the construction of the collapsed building and their company before a Lagos State High Court
The defendants were arraigned for charges bordering on failure to obtain building approval contrary to Section 41 of the Urban and Regional Planning Law of Lagos State 2010, Involuntary Manslaughter causing death contrary to Section 222 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2011 and other charges bordering on criminal negligence.

Since the State Government filed the charges, the defendants had deployed different means to stall their arraignment by filing several applications in order to stall or unnecessarily prolong the court case.

I did a quick check on the ticket cost of Lagos to New-Delhi flight on net it averages around $1700 economy. Lagos to London is much cheaper. These OP information is definitely overblown.

I have witnessed good foreign companies leaving Nigeria since late 2014. We later learned they were taking these tough decisions based on economic forecast they did on Nigeria particularly for next decade or thereabout.
Many more good foreign employers have laid-off and left quietly - government agencies as FIRS, Pencom, Banks and Phcn would have noticed. Contractors and suppliers to companies would have noticed this trend also.

When you have worked with oyinbo you should be alarm when they give you gloomy forecast lasting a decade. They don't just talk - they invest a lot in research and put-in so much effort to predict future happenings.

You did a quick Google check not a quick "reality check"..Leave google, and ask any travel agent or a ticketing officer u knw. I still maintain that BA ticket goes for as high as 800knaira..Other airlines ar relatively cheaper tho.

I actually work at the Lagos airport (MMIA). And for some weeks now i have noticed that the number of foreigners (especially the Indians) departing the country has increased. The departure hall is always full to capacity and crowded.

Not only that the numbers has increased, they now travel with lot of baggages which weighs as much as 64kg for 2bags(32kg each). This indicates that they might not be coming back anytime soon.

The last time the departure hall was ever crowded like this was last year March, few days before the general election, when many foreigners and "big men" were leaving Nigeria with their families because of the anticipated electoral violence which never happened.

Even when i asked my elder Brother, who works with BA(British Airways). He said that he also noticed the mass exodus, most especially the Indians.
He even said some airlines have also increased their ticket cost by more than 50%...imagin first class ticket from Lagos to London is now abt 3million naira and economy ticket is as high as abt 800k. Most international Airlines, have stopped operating with their Airbuses in Nigeria, they now operate with smaller aircrafts to cut cost.

So, i wonder what could be chasing these foreigners out of Nigeria. Could it be the fuel scarcity wahala or maybe they have a very important festival they want to go and celebrate in there country.

I heard most duplexes and flats in Illupeju are now vacant, Anyone who knows Illupeju very well, will know that, that is the headquarters of Indians living in Nigeria..Estate agents can confirm that.
