@mac For me, volunteering at the library is an describable high. Just seeing the wealth of knowledge books can impart, epecially to kids - I don't know if you can put a value on that. Volunteering and donating to the library is definitely one of my favorite things to do. |
I have been at both ends of the spectrum for extended periods, the reason why I can talk. My first post on this thread said it boils down to trust and affordability for most families. After all is said and done, it remains true. If you didn't need the income from work, would anyone be slaving it out daily? Would you not be engaged in more pleasurable pursuits? Most of us work because, when you think of your financial goals, you do not have a choice! This is not a thread for back and forths, no time nor inclination. Back to work. . . . . . my household's goals are not currently achievable on one income. THAT, my friends, is the reason why I work else I would be a volunteer at the library - yes, pure honesty! |
@ Jide Point of correction, no disguise; thank you! |
My concern would be with the gold loss, yep, that would be my priority. If she can't return it, how is her "aunty" of any use to me. I don't have much patience with thieves and being who I am, their whole family would be discussing how to return my gold, not matter of aunty. |
It's in Nigeria they are derisivly called "housewives" Leveraged-to-their-eyeballs, zero net worth "career women" with no kobo saved at the end of the day. Leave home at 4am, get home at 11pm and still think they are better off than women who have chosen to cut their coat according to their size and spare the time to raise their children. Is it not the same "career women" with zero productivity who spend 80% of their office time gossipping and pricing do-not-pay for 3 months clothing in the office car park? Abeggi! Make we hear word jor! Most of these Naija women work because they do not have a choice, period! Shouting career is just boju boju. No shame in saying your household cannot live on your husband's income alone. If there was a choice, how many of the menfolk sef would be working? |

Are you sure these are not "professionals" otherwise known as awon omo ori irin |
Another Nigeria versus West thread, as if you don't have poorly raised kids in both societies |
Botomline, it's down to trust and household income/affordability for most couples. If you can't trust him/her, don't do it! If it is not affordable don't do it! |
That's funny ![]() |

It's official! Young Naija men of this generation dance a lot better than the men of my generation. Wow! They make dancing look so effortless |
@ Post Born and raised like moi ![]() Eko o gba gbere rara P.S. Some raised but not born could also qualify |
Maybe because the embassies are first and foremost Nigerian territory and customer service does not couple with the word "Nigeria." I have heard that those offices even have the smell of a typical Naija government office with the ugly decor to go with it. |
The message in the post has value, regardless of the setting in which it was or was not not delivered. If someone is frantically (key word) trying to reach you, there's probably a good reason why. Applies in and outside Naija but maybe more in Naija where each outgoing call costs you credit. Patapata, pick up and lambast them if it's not an emergency |
jidegirl12: That's just me .... get used to it or just shut your face! Thanks for your honesty ![]() |

jidegirl12: I don't have to live in a multiacre mansion to have a snowmobile ...... Snowmobiles are driven around the culdesac and driveways , there's no ceremony to it .... The whole frontyard is covered with inches of snow and with wey close supervision oh yeah ....Where did I say you need to have an acreage in order to own a snowmobile? You buy them and ride them in open spaces, not in your surburban "compound." |
jidegirl12: See why I said different strokes for different folks? Since October ?!!! |
