CareerRe: Woman Of The Week by MMotimo: 6:31am On Feb 18, 2013
In sane climes, appreciation comes in the way of recognizing actual contributions a person has made towards the betterment of their societies. Being a billionaire does not make you person of the year, week, decade, etc!

FamilyRe: Are Extra Lessons Really Necessary For School Children? by MMotimo: 1:06am On Feb 16, 2013
If a child is performing below average, the extra tutoring is a good idea
If you want your child to perform or continue to perform above average, it's a good idea
If you are aiming for specific goals (eg qualifying for scholarships) outside of what class will provide, go with extra tutoring

I am a big fan of allowing kids to enjoy their childhood without undue academic pressures. Plenty struggles lie ahead for them, any load on them should be commensurate with other aspects of their development. Who has not seen high achieving kids (academically) with below peer emotional maturity and zero social skills. The emphasis should never be on academics alone.
FamilyRe: The Wickedness Of Some Naija Women In London by MMotimo: 12:55am On Feb 16, 2013
English is not my first language but the topic did say "some Nigerian women" . From my understanding, that does not equate to all Nigerian women in London or does the OP have a reputation for bashing Naija women?
FamilyRe: Schools Asking Kids To Wear Valentine Clothes: Is It Necesarry? by MMotimo: 12:39am On Feb 16, 2013
zayhal: Some schools actually teach romance! I passed by a school yesterday and saw the kids all dressed in red/white. They sat on the floor of the school compound in pairs, a boy and a girl. Some held flowers, some were kind of playing with sand (I'm not sure) and some were just talking and playing.

Why pair them up as such? What lesson exactly is that school teaching the kids? That val's day is a day to show love to the opposite sex?

Towards evening, I saw a parent of a child attending the school and told her what I saw earlier. She went on to tell me that her daughter was even told to bring a card and gift for the boy chosen for her as her val.

Do we have to go to this extent?

For those claiming it is to teach kids love, do we have to wait till val's day before teaching them love? Is wearing red and white and exchanging gift with the opposite sex the way to teach it? Let's not deceive ourselves.

I SMH for the next generation.
Please tell me you are kidding or just exaggerating. . . . In fact, I will ask that you name the school. I doubt ANY school would support romance between students for Val's day and from your description, these are very young kids too.
Madam, is it possible that what you saw was just coincidence - kids playing like they do everyday, male and female, nothing to do with pairing. Let us be mindful of sexualizing innocent child settings.

At that age, our own kids would play with the opposite sex, not a matter of pairing
FamilyRe: Schools Asking Kids To Wear Valentine Clothes: Is It Necesarry? by MMotimo: 9:46pm On Feb 15, 2013
The first Valentine's card I ever got was at age 10 and it was from my Dad. All these years later, my husband and I celebrate with our kids even though between the two of us, it's just a card and maybe small gift going one my way.

It will be what you make it for your kids. The bible says to the pure, all things are pure. You have the opportunity and responsibility to ensure your kids do not see it as a sexxxx day, it's just another celebration in red. If they are not old enough to date, then the day should have no connection to sexxxx, for them.

Jide, iwo lo mo grin. Me, I am old school and would not advise my sister to break up a 3 year relationship because of that unless there is a lot more to the story.

Dem full Oyinbo land, old singles who broke up with the loves of their lives because their friends told them they had been disrespected, bla bla bla
Going on 40, looking back to Naija to find a man after mismanaging their relationships in their younger years. Many eventually settle for someone who is not even half as good as the one they kicked out

Zechy09: @ OP, I mostly read and move on but had to comment. I am married and have to tell you the truth, no woman that pictures you as her future husband will break up with you because you called her "idio t". !
Sums it up nicely!

OP, she might have friends advising her to break up over the id i. ot. Same people that will tell her they could never tolerate it yet are undergoing worse in the hands of their own partners. To an embarrassing extent, that is the way of Naija women, too many of them too. I have never been able to understand the untoward capacity for mischief and sowing seeds of discord undecided Ask how many of these women had/have a 3 yr old relationship yet are quick to say throw it all away because he called you an i d iot

Sha spend time getting to know whom you marry and don't rush into marriage. Determine if the other person is a good fit or not. Often, it's not as simple as good/bad men/women, it's simply a matter of having the right fit in your choice of a partner.

FamilyRe: Have You Ever Been Bullied Before? by MMotimo:
Topic - no

My advice-First of all, recognize that a lot of online personalities have real lives that are very different from what they project online. Your bully may be an online "catfish" living a make-believe life in cyberspace. You shouldn't let yourself be intimidated by people, especially those you can't see. Bullies are generally insecure people with loads of issues. Do not ever allow yourself become a victim of another's issues.

You become "bullied" when you allow it. Don't give audience to behavior you find unacceptable. Don't let anyone label you "victim." Best thing to do is **ignore** so the bully realizes how inconsequential he/she is, that should be easy to do online.
