Politics72 Hours After Aso Rock Drama, Jonathan, Amaechi Embrace In Public by mooregan(op): 2:55am On Jun 30, 2013
Barely 72 hours after security personnel stopped Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State from approaching President Goodluck Jonathan at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, Abuja, both men embraced publicly yesterday in Port-Harcourt, Rivers State capital.

The embrace took place at the Port-Harcourt International Airport when Jonathan was returning from his home state of Bayelsa where he commissioned a hospital facility.

Presidential Villa operatives had, on Wednesday, blocked Amaechi from getting to Jonathan  at the seat of power during a dinner, an action that was interpreted in many quarters as stemming from the crisis in the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF).

The Aso Rock incident was the climax of the crisis in the NGF which saw the President disposed to Governor Jonah Jang of Plateau State as chairman of the body as against Amaechi, who secured a second term as the NGF chairman with 19 votes to 16.

Jonathan, en route Abuja after the Bayelsa visit, yesterday, embraced Amaechi at the Port-Harcourt Airport.

He arrived the airport in a presidential chopper.

As the president emerged from the helicopter, he made for the tarmac where the Rivers governor stood with members of his state executive council.

Astonishment
Both men were locked in an  embrace after a handshake while those around watched in astonishment.
Those at the airport  included the Minister of State for Education, Chief Nyesom Wike, the arrowhead of opposition to Amaechi in Rivers State, and the managing director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Dr Chris Oboh.

Jonathan later boarded the presidential jet for Abuja.

Maybe becos I've seen better flyovers in Akwa ibom, truly speaking I'm not impressed. I saw that flyover under construction when I was in Ibadan In December. A one lane flyover doesn't makes sense. I know de gov was afraid of bulldozing those buildings cos of de money to pay, but sooner or later, another government will have to cos that flyover won't be able to serve de traffic of ibadan fews years to come. Ibadan is a big city n deserve something better. And also, if I can remember vividly, its CCECC that constructed that flyover, I don't like that company one bit, de did some nice but not too impressive(in terms of smoothness and water logging) work in one of de roads in Uyo. I'm of de opinion that Julius Berger would have been better than CCECC. That's just my point of view, don't crucify me plss.
I still insist that this flyover was a waste of Ibadans scarely available money..

A one-lane flyover/bridge and road in 2013 is only fit for rural areas not Urban areas and certain rural areas that would soon be swallowed up by urbanization..

Build for the future not for today..
U r right!!! I was in Ibadan in December last year and I wondered Y on earth would someone do a one lane flyover In a populous City like Ibadan, its ridiculous.
EducationSave Students From Armed Nigerian Forces, NANS Crys Out To Jonathan by mooregan(op): 4:16pm On Jun 19, 2013
The National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, (JCC– Lagos) has lamented the spate of extra-judicial killing of students in recent times.
It said the actions of securityoperatives was becoming unbearable and may lead to further escalation of violence in Nigeria.
In a statement sent to DailyPost on Monday, NANS called on all Nigerian Students to join the protest against “the brutal killing of students by Armed Nigerian forces”.
The statement signed by Comrade Salau Adeyinka Fatimah, Public Relations Officer, NANS – JCC Lagos Axis regretted that in an era of democracy, lives of promising youth were wasted on a daily basis.
“Gun-trotting security agents usually shoot at protesting students merely carrying placards,” she said.
The spokesman went on to list recent incident where student were brutalized andalso murdered in cold-blood.
“On the 17th of June 2013, three (3) students were shotdead by officers of the Nigeria Police on Monday at Micheal Otedola College of Primary Education in Lagos. Several others were brutally injured.
“On the 12th of June 2013, four (4) students were shot during a peaceful protest within the premises of University of Uyo, UNIUYO, over the introduction of a new “Fare regime”. The Police arrived at the scene and opened fire that claimedlives of the students.
“On the 12th of June 2013, aPolice officer shot Ahmed Dayo, a National Diploma I (ND I) Accounting student ofthe Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin. The policeman, who probably is a school drop-out, has left Dayo with a broken bone on his left legand a crushed tibia which has affected the flat surface of his right foot. Except a miracle and/or urgent medical surgery, one of the affected legs may be amputated.
“On the 20th of May 2013, two (2) students of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) Ogun state were killed and several others were injured by the Nigeria police. The Police arrived at the entrance of the campus in Armoured tanks and shot sporadically at the students.
“On the 25th of February 2013, four (4) unarmed students of Nasarawa State University, NSUK, were brutally murdered by the Nigerian Army during a peaceful protest for lack of water and electricity on campus.
“On the 26th of May 2013, students of the Federal College of Marine and Fisheries Technology were attacked by armed Nigeria Naval officials in the school premises. Four (4) students were shot at, while about thirty (30) were injured.
“These are few cases of extra-judicial killings perpetrated by men of the Nigeria Police and the Military.
“It is pertinent to state that incidents like the afore-mentioned, occur daily in our tertiary institution campuses in several parts ofthe country,” the statement said
NANS appealed to President Goodluck Jonathan, saying that as a Father himself, he should come to their rescue by calling security agencies to order before Nigeria students are wiped out.
The union further demanded that all the officers, who fired bullets that killed their deceased colleagues “be prosecuted for crimes against humanity.”
It also demanded that any committee raised to probe the killings should have students as members for thepurpose of transparency

EducationRe: Riot In University of Uyo: Can Any One Confirm? by mooregan(m): 6:52am On Jun 13, 2013
saintandsinnerz: Really terrible that police will shoot live bullets to protesters just to quell them! Again, in as much as we are blaming the Nigerian police for their trigger happiness, we should also look at the conduct of students during riots. Most times students are overzealous in their protests and usually cause chaos in the process, and many times, protest that normally starts peaceful are usually hijacked by criminally minded students. And when the police are invited to restore order, you will see some students even going to the extent of trying to disarm an armed police officer! once again, It is a shame the poor students lost their lives for nothing, I will like to implore the IG to investigate this and bring the murder police officer(s) to justice. Lastly, students should learn how to be responsible in their protests, they should use more of solidarity songs, placards and dialogue to drive home their point rather than retorting violent protest.
It wasn't a riot until de Police started shooting. It was never violent until de police killed a student. They shot dat tear gas 3 times into a female hostel, see as those girls were running for their lives...

If Uniuyo students are complaining of ₦200 daily as fares rate, Those in Private institution's nkor?? *sighs!!
We have de de worst n most stupid SUG president ever. He gets his share from de Management and keeps quite. Last semester, Students Protested about non availability of water and Food in the Hostel, last week students Protested on 2000naira increment on fees just 2weeks after resumption, ystday students Protested that de bus scheme that has always been free from inception shouldn't be charge, and our Mumu management brought well Armed Policemen. The threw tear gas into de school compound and Hostels(W4 in annex campus), they shot live ammunitions not in the air but straight at students. Even de civil defense that de just licensed to use gun joined in shooting. Asthma patients were suffering as a result of de tear gas, stampede everywhere. If care is not taken, our VC will ask students to start paying bills for light.. Due to de death of students, Angry students started burning down school properties like de VC's, Registrar, DVC's offices and even de main gate. Its rather too unfortunate that what started as a peaceful protest ended up sour due to Poor management, non functioning SUG and Trigger happy Police men. I'm very sure that so many civilians are being killed because our soldiers are poorly trained.

Come to think of it....If Nigerian Police can kill civilians in broad day light, then I see no reason why Nigerian Army wont kill civilians. Both forces represent and are product of the society....

This State of emergency won't be needed in the first place if we had proper intelligence unit, but like most units in Nigeria, the SSS seem dysfunctional.

If Boko Haram could afford to give youth N5,000 to fire bomb schools, I don't see why we can't pay infiltrators N20,000 ( minimum wage), to infiltrate the sect for intelligence gathering.

So instead of State of emergency that is costing money, all we will just need is a specialist team, well trained to swoop and make arrest based on intelligence gathering.
U r talking Trash.
