@ shyone When you land the airport, be polite when passing through immigration. 1. Try to get your bags as fast as possilbe. lagos airport have a tendency of delaying bag picups and before you know it the next flight has arrived. 2. If you are flying Air france they usually get ther earlier in the day around 5pm which is good 3. Nigerian people like people who are very respectful so bare this in mind as you approach people however do not appear timid. Nigerians very assertive people. 4. I suggest you take a bottle of pepto cause no matter how strong your stomach is, you aint gonna be used to the food. Don't worry it gets better as your stomach adjusts. 5. Try to visit other cities in Nigeria as lagos will not giveyou a good picture of the country. I recommend Abuja, Calabar Obudu ranch and Kano or Minna if possible. lagos has the vibe of Newyork city. It is fast paced and couls be disorienting at first. 6. Nigerians are social so try to hang out. you don't have to drink. we have moslems in the country who don't drink either but they still get their groove on. 7. Always have someone bargian prices for you or you will get the expatriate rate. hehehehe!! |
NYSC has lost its way. There are many ways you can give back to communities in Nigeria without wasting a year of your life. If you are younger however and have the time to spare then its worth a shot. People who often get good jobs after service have connections of some sort so if you are one of those go ahead and play your hand. The arguement about needing those documents later in life only depend on your intent engage in politics or get governmetn contracts. The probability is not on your side being that we have over 150+ people in nigerian garning for few government positions. Choose wisely |
M16:Government is playing its appropriate role in the US using Anti trust laws to intervene in the market place when necessary. Keynsian's economic theory dictates that They do have a role in creating balance where inbalance is detected i.e by providing an atmosphere of equal opportunity and eliminating barriers to entry. Monopolies on a whole stifle innovation as a result of lack of competition and holding too much power in terms of resource control. M16:There isn't any so called "hardwork" involved in trying to wield more power in an industry. Monopoly's as in Microsoft are able to manipulate prices because they are the only producers of a particular product in a market place, they are able to dictate prices in the market place and swallow up most of the proift available in the market. Again restricting more entrants into an industry or a market place by dubious means is counter to the true concept of Capitalism which basically is the supply of money in combination with ideas, motivaton in an enabling environment todrive the efficient production of a particular good or service. Microsoft accomplishes this through supply restrictions, bundling and the likes i.e when you buy your computer Microsoft requires all support for that PC from particular suppliers by binding them to certian contracts restricting them from other competitors, tery making theri product more expensive The growth of companies is more of what you are alluding to. M16:Don't agree with you there Most socialist/communist countries have protectionist polices, Rarely to europe or the United states just look at Nafta and the European union. M16:Thats not capitalism at all M16:Mr Soros arguement can be debated for its merits and are to some Degree a plausible solution. The system should correct itself to a certain extent and Governments should only get involvedin dire situations. The 1929 depression in the US was a prime example of when government intervention was necessary however technically the market corrected itself and the deman generated by the government was as a result of WW2 and not necessarily any fiscal or monetary policies for that matter |
