Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, on Tuesday said the present administration has done better in power generation, transmission and distribution than the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) did in 16 years of its administration.

The minister explained that the achievements of the present government would be better felt if compared with the ‘realities’ it met on ground when it took over the reign of power in 2015.

“If you do not define your goal against your reality, progress will be difficult to recognise,” Mr Fashola said. “As to where we were in 2015, power generation was averaging 4,000 MW; transmission was averaging 5,000 MW and distribution was averaging 3,000 MW.

“As to what we promised, I stated in my very first public briefing in November 2015 that contrary to previous practice, we were committing to a journey; first of getting incremental power, with the plan to proceed to steady power, and ultimately get uninterrupted power.

Governors under the support of Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF), who met on Wednesday night in Abuja, said though they were not against the upward review of the national minimum wage, they lacked the ability to pay the proposed N24,000.

Minister of Labour and Employment Chris Ngige had last week told reporters that while Labour unions were demanding N30,000 per month, Federal Government proposed N24,000 and state governors N20,000.

However, it is doubtful if the leadership of the labour unions would accept the N24, 000, which they claimed was “unilaterally” adopted by the Federal Government.

Indication to that effect emerged as the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has summoned an emergency meeting for next week to take a decision.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC, has obtained a court order from a Federal High court in Abuja to keep the immediate past governor of Ekiti state, Ayo Fayose, for two weeks.

Fayose whose tenure ended on October 16th, arrived the commission’s office in Abuja on same day to answer questions on some allegations of fraud.

Fayose is being investigated for his alleged role in the $2.1 billion arms procurement fraud. He is alleged to have received N1.3 billion from the Former Minister of State for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro, which was used to allegedly rig the 2014 state governorship election in his favor.

The Presidency has denied claim over the lists making the rounds purportedly containing the names of high-profile Nigerians affected by the travel ban the Federal Government announced on Saturday.

Ogun State governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has vowed to dump the All Progressives Congress, APC for an undisclosed party.

The governor said if the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party refuses to uphold the candidacy of his ‘anointed governorship candidate’, Abdul-Kabir Adekunle Akinlade, he will dump APC.

The Ogun State Governor made this known during a meeting with some party leaders and his loyalists across the 20 local government areas of the state held at his private residence in Ibara GRA, Abeokuta.

And the decision was taken after some selected Governors met with President Muhammadu Buhari to get his involvement in the antagonistic primaries in the states.

Although, he did not disclose the party he may join, he made it clear that he would never defect to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Provost and Medical Director of Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Aro, Abeokuta, Ogun State, Dr. Timothy Adewale, has revealed that the renowned hospital popularly called ‘Aro’ admits between 250 and 300 new patients fighting mental illness every month.

Adewale made this revelation today at a press conference and seminar organised by the hospital to mark this year’s World Mental Health Day, with the theme, ‘Young People and Mental Health In A Changing World’, which took place in Iwe Iroyin, Oke Ilewo, Abeokuta.

“On a monthly basis, we have record of 250 to 300 patients in our hospital. I am not talking about those ones who are already with us. These are the new patients.” He said.
