@GboyegaD, You are so right on point bro..

He should take absolutely control of everything, starting with the Online DS 160 form.

Even the US consulate advises propective students applying for US student visa not to patronize Agents..

@fades56, hope u are reading all this. So make sure you take Charge of your online DS 160 form.

You will be responsible for all details filled on the Online DS 160 form whether WRONG or RIGHT. So don't let the Agent do it for you. Instead fill the online form yourself.

You will benefit more when you fill the Online DS 160 form yourself than letting your Agent fill it for you.

Because on the day of your Interview, you will definately know and remember all the details you filled on the online DS 160 form.

Cheers bro.

fadex56: Helo house, i applied to concord university 4 undergraduate study 2ru an agent bt he tld me dat my i-20 is on it way and tld me dat after d arrival of d i-20, i stll need 2 pay sevis fee and visa fee. I need more light on dis pls
@fadex56, Ofcourse you still need to pay the Sevis fee and the Visa fee before you go for your Interview.

Sevis fee is $200, approximately #31,600.

Visa fee is #26,400, which can be paid at GTBank.

But My bro be getting ready to pay 3 times the amount of what I stated above since you went through an Agent.. Hope you knw that.

Why didn't you do it yourself..

Note: Pls and pls make sure you must be with your agent the day he feels your online DS 160 form ooo. Because any inconsistency in your details will lead to DENIAL at the Embassy..

So make sure you know what the agent is filling in your online DS 160 form because the same questions will be asked on the day of your interview, and if you say something different from what your Agent filled on your online DS 160 form, you will 100% be DENIED the US student Visa.

That's the plain truth I will give you bro. Cheers

@Onipedey, I'm so grateful for your effort and contributions. I have already taken that into consideration.

Me tired ke. I will NEVER get tired oooo until I get my i-20 package from my school.

I have already composed the mail I will send to them tomorow. Because I really need to follow up on this issue and time is running out because I still need to book appointment.

Thanks bro. You are blessed..

onipedey: What I don't understand is, has your school processed your I-20 and is it ready for shipment? Because if TNT is not yet in possession of the I-20 then,I guess there is nothing to track with them yet until you are sure the document is in transit with the courier service. You should be speaking with your school to be sure your I-20 is ready as requested.
@onipedey, Thanks again for your response. The school informed me by mail last week Tuesday that my i-20 request form has been forwarded to the person that processes i-20s. And as soon as my package is ready to be picket up, they said they will mail me.

That was the mail I got from them when I sent my i-20 request form, hoping they will process the package within 2-3 days. Up till 1 week plus, I haven't heard from them.

I don't think they have processed the i-20 yet. But I will give TNT a phone call tomorow, to know if they have called the school to ask if my package is ready for shipment.

I think that's what I shud do next. I have to keep calling TNT, so that they shud follow it up with the school. I think that's the only option left for me for now.

Thnx all the same bro. God bless u..

onipedey: Hey broda, maybe u should contact d school 1st to know maybe ur I-20 has been picked already,if it has been picked then all ur worries should be on TNT to deliver safely n quick to u. Maybe u should have checked with fedex for same service cos I believe they would handle documents better, as TNT deal majorly with heavy luggage(courier). But 1st,know where your I-20 is,whether school or already in transit to u...
@Onipedey, thanks bro for your response.

Actually I don't think the i-20 package is with TNT courier because I just went to TNT courier office last week friday for them to help me pick up the i-20 package. So it is still a little too early.

I actually called the school last week thursday and they were telling me to tell TNT courier to call them on phone first so they will get the i-20 package ready for them and send it out to them.

But what I don't quite undastand is that since 2 weeks ago I sent my i-20 request form to them for the school to get my i-20 processed but they haven't still processed it yet.

They have really delayed me... But I intend calling TNT tomorow again to track my i-20 package.

Paywole: Schedule a pick up with any courier service here in nigeria and give them the schools address but try and make sure you call their kearnery international office first and inform them about your plans on how you wish to get the I-20 from them..i used TNT then for mnsu and they delivered my I-20..
@Paywole, How long did it take you to receive your i-20 package from Minnesota State University using TNT courier plus.

I intend using TNT courier plus as well to receive my i-20 package. I went to TNT courier office last week friday and I gave them my school's address. And I'm using the same procedure as yours (Pick up Service). They charged me #12,260 for their pick up service.

But I'm a little nervous that this is taking longer than expected because I'v NOT received my i-20 package from Minnesota State University, Mankato

My sponsor is worried because he has already given me the money to receive the i-20 package and I don't want him thinking that I have already spent the money on something else which is Not so.

Because the money is still intact in my Bank Account and I promised my sponsor my i-20 package will get to me within 5 days and this is more than 3 weeks since they gave me admission and I'v not received anythin yet. All thanks to this Eshipglobal of a company that don't accept credit card from Nigerians which delayed me.

I told my sponsor it will take 5 days to get the i-20 package because I actually thought the eshipglobal method would work out but it was impossible.

And I need to book an appointment at the Embassy this month. Because I need to go for my interview Next month JULY. Please house anyone with any possible solution or idea should pls help a bro here..

@Paywole pls respond to this post. I need to hear your candid opinion because you have used TNT before and also given admission to the same school with me.

Cheers guys..

Amefrica: @swagger,
thanks so much bro, i wil take my time to find cheap schools, plus i registered for toefl doin d exam 26th of July. Afta registratn i gt to know, no more SAT test dates for Nigerians. All my research on NO SAT, Cheap SCHOOLS proved abortive.. #imFEDUP
@Amefrica, Don't EVER give up on anything. You can make it. Successful people don't give up.
Many of those students studying in US never gave up, even though they faced different challenges.

Don't let anyone tell you that You can't Make it. You CAN make it.

One thing you need to know is that you don't expect your Road to success to be smooth, you must encounter some challenges on the way and you must learn how to face and tackle this Challenges.

NOTHING is impossible. People studying in US don't have 4 heads, they are human beings like you, so if they can make it, why can't you as well Make it. So bro, it is Possible. WAKE UP. Keep fighting till you succeed.

@Amefrica, Let me assist you in giving you list of Schools that don't require SAT for admission. The last time I checked they Don't require SAT for admission. Who knows maybe they might have changed their admission requirement policy. So you still need to mail these schools to confirm and be on a safe side.

Eastern illinois university
Idaho state university
Northwestern state university of louisiana
Southeast missouri state university
Northwest missouri state university
Northern Arizona University
California State University, Fullerton
North Dakota State university
Weber state university
Ohio state university
Missouri state university
Wright state university
Western Michigan University
Western illinois university

Email these schools and make your Enquiry. Go to their website and get their international admissions email and compose your message properly and send to all.

These schools I gave you, if only you knew what it took me before I could get these schools for myself.

When I was still searching for schools, I hardly sleep at night, that was how I was able to jot out all these schools in my private book and give to you.
It is good to keep reference.

Cheers bro.

Amefrica: Hi fam, Is it real easy to transfer from a university (expensive) to a public college (cheap) wen i get to US, n lets say is it possible to move 4rm a uni in California 2 a college in Maryland..? And what r d steps to take.. Thanks
@Amefrica, hope you are aware you will be expected to pay for your First Semester Tuition fee before you will be able to transfer to another university or college of your choice in the US

@Amefrica, have this in MIND, some schools first semester tuition fee is suicide. Very Expensive.

You can pay as high as $8000 per semester which when converted to naira equivalent, we are looking at #1.2million per semester, and for a year it is
double which is #2.4million per year.

I'm just giving you an insight on what you will be expected to pay. So you should be prepared and well informed. It depends on the school you search, some may charge higher than what I illustrated
above.

@Amefrica, I have been reading your previous post here and I can see that you have a little financial difficulty.

So my advise to you is that when searching for a school of your choice, Choose Wisely. Make sure you Put into consideration their first semester tuition fee they charge for international students.

Because the Tuition fee most schools in US charge international students is Outrageous. Unless you have Full or partial scholarship from the school, then one has nothing to worry about.

And when I mean scholarship, I am not talking about those ones that some schools will give you a $1000 - $2,500 scholarship out of OVERALL tuition fee of $16000 or Higher. That's not Scholarship to me.

When I mean Scholarship, I'm talkin about reasonable ones.

So, Go to Google and search for cheap schools in US.

Take your time carefully to check what they charge per semester.

Because even if you are transfering to another school, you cannot escape that first semester tuition fee.

When you search for schools, you will definately see schools that charge much lower than $8000 per semester which I know you can afford.

Then when you attend the school after you have paid your first semester tuition fee, you can easily transfer to any community college of your choice
that even charge as low as $3500 per academic year.

Cheers bro. See you at the Top...

Any of the mentioned people is eligible by law to file for the green card for you and are your relatives. If you don't have any of the above-mentioned people in the US then your answer should be 'No'.

I have a quick question to ask
you regarding this Relative in US issue because I'm
learning alot here so I want to learn somethings
before I fill my DS 160 online apllication.

I have relatives in US, they are US citizens, they
happen to be my uncle's children and my cousins.

The Issue here is that we are not even in close
contact. They don't even know where we live, and
they don't care to know. We are not close like that.

We hardly talk to them. I hope u undastand my point here. And we share the same Surname.

So when filling the Online DS 160 form, if asked if I
have any relatives in US, what should be my
response?

Thnks every1, waitin for ur anticipated response.

i did not say you can not use company as ur sponsor But if your i-20 state family fund as sponsor is better to get a statement in family name not company.
Thanks
@Kunsoft, Sorry for the Misunderstanding. I get you now. You are 100% right. I will take reference of what you stated above to regarding my i-20 package as well.

The issue of discussion here is if someone who has 'family funds' clearly written on his I-20 and goes with a company statement get granted despite the inconsistency?
@Bigfrancis, Thnx a lot, I understand nw.

Nairaland is making me learn new things alot. What you just said about inconsistency on i-20 is very important.

@Kunsoft, I'm not sure of that. Company's Bank statement is acceptable. I have seen some peeps in previous threads on nairaland getting their visa wth company's Bank statement.

You can Notarize your document at any Law court around your state. If you are in lagos Notarize them at Ikeja.

Make a photocopy of all the documents you want to Notarize and take them to Ikeja high court Lagos.

When you get to ikeja high court lagos, you will see some women outside the court premises that will be calling you for Affidavit, go to those women and tell them you want to Notarize your documents.

But don't go inside the ikeja court office Building unless you are a Rich Kid, because they charge high there.

Those women will do it at a very cheap rate for you. I did mine for #4,000 for 35 documents. But if you go inside the ikeja court office, you will notarize 35 documents for #500 per document and #17,500 for 35 documents. You can spot the big difference

You can Notarize your degree certificate, Any Award certificate you have, WAEC RESULT, School Leaving Certificate e.t.c.

But if you can get another copy of your Original transcript and Statement of result from your school, then there is no need to Notarize it.

But if you can't get more copies of the Originals from your school, You have no option other than Notarizing your Transcript and Statement of Result gotten from your School as well.

Regarding your question about TOEFL, actually I have never done TOEFL before, it's only SAT I did. But I can talk you through my experience with SAT.

I got My SAT result mailed to my home address 2 months after I took the SAT.

The same might imply for TOEFL as well.

So I will Advise don't rely on the Original copy of your TOEFL score report, if time is not on your side anymore, Just go with the Online print out to the Embassy.

But if you have enough time to wait for the TOEFL, then no need to hurry, just wait for the TOEFL to be mailed to you, but if you don't receive it and time is running out on your Side just go with the Online Print out.

Cheers bro.

Mr swagger, 35 Documents wink wow , if u dnt mind what acctually will you notarize 35 documents for? Bro, I do not stay in lagos.I base in ilorin and kaduna.
About d toefl issue,my school requires original copy of toefl result sent to dem by post and my application deadline is 15 Oct and I'm really running out of time as I haven't even registered yet.
@the hanafis,

I Notarized 35 documents because I applied to like 5 schools in US. I did photocopies of all my certificates into 5 different places and mailed it to the Schools through Nipost and they all accepted the Notarized copies I sent.

Regarding the TOEFL, you still have much time. October is still far away but that doesn't mean you have to relax sha.

Go and register for the TOEFL so that you will allow enough time to get the result mailed to you.

But can't you ask your school in US if you can send the TOEFL result directly from TOEFL.

Because when I did my SAT, Collegeboard sent my scores directly to my universities in Us that I applied to.

I didn't mail any SAT result to them.

But you have to indicate your School in US when you are registering for TOEFL that you want them to send your TOEFL scores directly to your schools in US.

I think this will be accepted from your school because it is 100% Official.

The reason why I'm saying all this and giving you possible options is that if you eventually get your Original TOEFL result before October 15 and you mail it to your school. Then which TOEFL score report will you take to the Embassy?

Hope you understand me, because I don't want you to make a mistake.

But if you have enough time to wait for the TOEFL, then no need to hurry, just wait for the TOEFL to be mailed to you, but if you don't receive it and time is running out on your Side just go with the Online Print out.

Cheers bro.

theHanafis: Dot1 thanks man,I'm gr8tful.
Dot1 I hav anoda ques to ask about application processes:Am I to send original copies of certificate or statement of result and transcript after filling d online application form.

Upon filling ma app form ,I was ask to fill laboratory's name or academic advisers name.so I dnt really get it,am I to search a lab in d faculty or a research group and fill it as my lab name or am I to pick any name of a prof in d faculty and use it as my academic advisor.pls I nid d favour of d house.
@The Hanafis, I won't advice you send any ORIGINALS to any school.

Just get all your Degree certificates Notarized and mail it to them. That's all.

NB: Any Original certificate you send to your intended school in US Won't be given back to you. Hope you know that.

But before you send any Notarized documents to them, Contact them by Email or Call them and confirm if they accept Notarized documents.

I'm very sure they will accept it, because most Schools in US accept Notarized documents.

Cheers bro.
@mr swagger, thank you for the info. Is it compulsory this letter is attached to the statement of account.
@Fidelia.john, The Reference letter from Bank is not compulsory.

But if they demand for a fee from you and you are quite sure you can afford it then go for it.

But if you don't have, just go with your Bank statement to the Embassy without the letter from Bank.

The V.O will only ask for your Bank statement, and they won't demand any letter from Bank. The letter is just an additional document but not important as the Bank Statement.

Bank Statement na the Main Koko...

Cheers.
Thank you Dear, do I need to get a letter from the bank to attach to the stmt of acct?
@Fidelia.John,

Yes, you are also welcome to attach a letter to the Bank Statement.

That letter is called Reference letter from your sponsor's Bank.

I remember my sponsor's Bank wanted to give me a Reference letter and they were telling me to pay 5k for the letter. Me I just bone that letter, just took only statement of Account and left jare.

Those Bank Officials are really making money, they will charge you for anything you want from them, and the money they charge for many things is always 5k atleast.

I also paid 5k to my Sponsor's Bank for Confirmation. They said when school or Embassy calls, they will be able to confirm the Authencity of the Bank Account.

Abeg those Bankers like money oooo. Dem just dey bill me from left to Right. Me Na Bank Statement be the Main koko jare.

But your case might be different sha, they might not demand much for you, in might vary with different Banks.

Cheers.

bigfrancis21: On point bro.
Did it reflect the required balance or it was printed 3/6 months back?
@Bigfrancis, My school required a total balance of #3.3Million and My sponsor had #3.9Million in his account as of March 2013.

My sponsor's current Account balance as of April and May 2013 is about #1.7Million, which is below what I needed.

And also my school said my Bank statement shouldn't be more than 3 months old.

So what I did was that I told the Bank official to print out his Bank statement from October 2012 to march 2013, making it 6 months old Bank statement.

I intend applying for my visa by JULY, So what I intend doing is that I pray my sponsor's Bank statement should be more than #3.9Million as of June or July, so that I will go to his Bank and request for an Updated Bank Statement.

But if his Bank Account Balance for June or July his below what the school requires, I will have no other option than to go with the Bank Statement of March 2013 which I used in getting admission.

Cheers bro..
