twAYz: Thanks man.
Would try to email 'n' see what happens.
Did u also apply to MSU and for what programme?
Yes bro, I applied to MSU to study Business Administration & Management for the Fall 2013 session.

But I'm defering my admission to Spring 2014...

twAYz: Thanks so much bro. But d issue is av got date 4 interview @ d embassy on the 29th like I explained. I would av loved to have my Visa on ground like u while I then defer my admission wt rest of mind. How do I go about ds,despite my school resumin on the 20th. Thanks
See bro, Going to the Embassy on the 29th of August with a resumption date of 20th of August on your i-20 is AUTOMATIC DENIAL..

So you will need to take permission from the school and get an extension letter from them in other for you to resume late.. Believe me, even if they grant you the extension letter approval it will be for only 1 week.. And by then it won't still be convenient for u as well and you won't still meet up for fall.

And besides MSU won't allow you to resume by september..

But you can email them and Try your luck, the best I know they will do is to defer your admission to spring 2014. And before doing that they will tell you to register with EducationUSA before they can review your application.

twAYz: .

Pls,what do u advice I do in my case?
My brother ur own case is just simple.. Defer your admission straight to the point...

There is no time again for you anymore since ur school is resuming on the 20th of August which is nxt week tuesday. When will u even have time to book flight, processing of visa, delays at the airport or even settle in.

There are too many tins to consider.. You self check it and u will see it is not possible again for u to meet up for this fall.. Just go for spring bro, by then you will have ample of time to plan and book appointment as early as possible and taking advantage of cheap flight ticket when u book in advance.

Assuming MSU resumes next month september, it wud have been much possible for you to meet up..

Email MSU and tell them you want to defer your admission.. They will definately tell you to go thru EducationUSA, and I will advice you oblige to their rules.. Because it is now Mandatory for Nigerian applicants to apply through EducationUSA due to the high rate of Visa Denials..

Just go to EducationUSA at the US consulate and make your enquiry.. If you still don't like this idea of going through EdaucationUSA, you can try applying to other schools towards spring 2014 that don't require EdactionUSA.. And you need to do that asap because deadlines for admission into spring 2014 is almost near.

The spring 2014 session is already around the corner.

But I think with EducationUSA, you stand a very high chance of getting your Visa...

Cheers bro...

twAYz: Hello House, Please am having a challenge and I would appreciate if I get ur response ASAP. I hav bn given admission to study International Business (Bs) in MSU. I am to resume in Sch by Aug 20th 2013, but I got a date for interview @ d embassy for 29th of this month.Effort to get another date by a person (agent) assisting with earlier date has been futile till now.Am not comfortable wt d situatn again. Should I mail d skul to extend my resumptn date (don't know if they will grant)? Or defer my admission to spring next year (despite I will like to go ds year). Please "Mighty" Imperiouxx,Superbrain,Gboyega,Bigfrancis 'n' d whole house kindly help a brother.
Even if you want to defer, MSU won't allow you handle the application yourself anymore.. They now require all Nigerian Students wishing to study in their school to apply through EducationUSA due to the high rate of Visa denials..

That's the problem I'm facing now.. I have already gotten my student visa for fall 2013 and I want to defer my admission to spring 2014.. They asking me for another New Bank statement and they are saying I should go through EducationUSA..

Me I'm just confused jare.....

justwise: Really? Are you not the same person who started this thread https://www.nairaland.com/1298933/easiest-way-pay-sevis-fee

Promoting a company you claimed that helps people make SEVIS payment?
@Justwise, I will BOLDLY tell you YES I am the one.. I have Nothing to hide. I know you will surely talk.

Before I made this post, the first thing that came to my mind was YOU. I knew you will track me and start with your Unrelevant - Oversabi nature.

I know you already have me in MIND since that day.

Besides, I have two options of paying the SEVIS fee, either my sister in Austria pays it for me for $200 app #31,600 or I go through DELETED that charge #42,500..

So you can spot the Difference. I don't have Much time and Money on me so I will have gone with DELETED.

If it was you that was in my shoes won't you rather choose your sibling that will pay it for you over there.

So both sources are GENUINE, I am just looking for a much cheaper and faster method. That's why I'm asking... Besides is it a crime to make an Enquiry here or wht....

I'm trying to weigh my Options.

It seems the Austria method will be faster because it is through western union and it will take just 2 days to get it done and I'm in a hurry to go to the Embassy. But DELETED will get it done for me in 8 working days.

If it can't be paid in Austria, Then I will DEFINATELY pay the Sevis fee in DELETED as soon as possible.

So I hope I have proved my case well to you before you start behaving like one unwanted FBI here..

You are NOT finished oooo. Lol!!! It's not the end of the Road. In any difficult situation there will always be a solution.

And also, I will advice you contact your chosen school first and explain your issue with them. You might be lucky they might NOT need your high school transcript, they might be Satisfied with just your WAEC result depending on your grades.

If that doesn't work you can switch to Plan B. I will tell you about that later. Just keep me posted here to know if they will accept.

Square65: This is just to further clarify things for some of the new prospective applicants/students.

The number of schools you apply to is a function of so many things i.e f(MONEY, determination, what you are looking for, etc) - different situations for different people.

Although some people only applied to just one school and got EXACTLY what they wanted, simple probability sense would tell us that the larger the number of schools you applied to, the higher the chances of getting what you REALLY want. I for one applied to 9 schools in total (including 5 in the US).

As for the embassy, there is ABSOLUTELY no way the VO can know how many schools you applied to except you let him know. That TOEFL/GRE scores are sent to schools does not necessarily mean one applied to those schools. For example again, in my own case, I applied to only one out of the four schools listed in my first TOEFL/GRE report. So this means I had several other official score reports, each corresponding to the schools I eventually applied to. I could have presented any of these without the VO knowing the actual number of schools I applied to.

The bottom line is, there's nothing like applying to many schools for the embassy's sake, it is ABSOLUTELY for your own sake! In this regard, you can tell the VO anything you want him to know (3, 4, 20 ...), whether true or not (left to your own principles/conscience).
@square65, You are 1 million times right.. This was the same suggestion I was pointing out and to @Amefrica..

You are sooooooooooo right on point!!!! God bless u bro for pointing this out again.. Exactly!!!!!

@Amefrica you can see and read it for yourself the Advantages of applying to as many schools as possible.

@Amefrica, Anyways I trust you, you have already made up your mind in applying to 4 schools.. Verrry Good Move. Cheers bro

Amefrica: Good Morning Fam, i don come again with my questions oo.. You know im inquisitive..
1. The year on my testimonial is diff. 4rm d one on my GCE result. How do i go abt this ?
2. I cant get transcripts 4rm my sec. skul, they dnt keep records ?
Enlighten me pls, dnt lemme be On My Own.. Thanks
@Amefrica, You are not on your own, as long as you are on this forum, you will NEVER be alone as there are many people here to guide you through the admission process till you get your VISA

Your First question; It is not neccessary for your year of Testimonial to correspond with your GCE result.

Like for me, I graduated high school 2007 and I submitted my GCE result of 2008 and I was still given admission to about 6 schools in the Uk and 2 in US. So it doesn't count as anytin at all. Just rest your mind on that.

Your 2nd question: Since your High school don't keep records, that is not the End of the road for you. Shame on that High school. It's not all your fault. Blame it on them. They only know how to collect school fees. You can as well help yourself by doing it yourself.

If you still have records of the grades you had back in high school, get the school's letter headed paper from the school, they should have it, if they don't have letter headed paper, get a Business centre person to design it on letter headed paper for you with the school's address, and Logo on it

Go to a nearby business centre and type the transcript there. Then take it back to your school for your principal or high school counselor to SIGN it.

Make a Move.

It is as easy as that.

Cheers bro.
Travel › Re: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part4 by mrswagger:
Amefrica: mr swagger, i like ur style n i promise i wont disappoint u in TOEFL. The problem m having now is. High school transcripts d same as WAEC GCE and Testimonial.. I finished in 2010 at the age of 14yrs but got my SSCE results canceled. So i sat for 2011 WAEC GCE n got a superb result. What's ur advice on this ? Plus what is SOP
@Amefrica, High school transcript is different from WAEC, GCE and TESTIMONIAL.

There is one thing you need to know is that WAEC and GCE are both of the same bodies, so either exam you take will be acceptable for admission into Schools in US.

WAEC GCE will also be acceptable for admission into US schools.

An high school transcript is a document that shows your grades and records from the year you entered the school till the End you finished.

Like for example; you entered high school from JSS1 and finished SS3

You will need to get your transcripts from JSS 1 - SS3.

And also an high school transcript is NOT a marking sheet. Contact your high school counselor, he will definately know all this things. Tell him to prepare your high school transcript for you.

It's not difficult. Because honestly speaking to you, when it comes to undergraduate studies, many US schools make use of High school transcript even though you are submitting a standarlized test.

They use it in calculating your GPA and to know your strengths and weakness in certain courses and know where you need improvement and they also use it in knowing how well you performed while at High School.

Since you have a perfect WAEC GCE result then consider yourself Lucky, attach it to your admission package when applying for Admission

So, Regarding the Aspect of TESTIMONIAL, a testimonial is a certificate that shows and proof that you have graduated High school. So hope you understand all this things.

So you will need to attach the following when applying for undergraduate admission to any school in US;

* WAEC result from WAEC.

* Transcript from your High School

* Standarlized Test scores. E.g SAT or TOEFL or Both

* School leaving certificate & Testimonial

* Data page of International passport, (if you have one)

* 2 letters of Recommendation from an Employer or High school counselor or your Subject teachers. (But this is not Mandatory, depends on the school you are applying to. Check out their Requirement on their website if you will be needing it)

So Regarding the SOP (Statement of purpose) it is actually not Mandatory for students to submit it, but some students still submit it just to get a chance to express their career goals to the Admissions officer, and some Admissions officer take reference to what you wrote on the SOP.

If they are having doubts about your apllication file whether to grant you admission or not, with a Good SOP, they won't even blink anymore, it's admission they will grant you all the way.

@Amefrica, pls don't get confused, let me break it down for you this way;

1st step: Search for the school you want to attend.

2nd step: Check their acceptance rate, Availability of scholarship, Tuition rate if it is affordable for you, i.e Put into consideration as well as their per semester tuition rate, if it is affordable for you before checking the overall tuition per academic year.

3rd step: Check their Requirements and information about the Major you want to pursue.

4th step: Communicate directly with the admissions officers of the school you wish to attend and obtain informations from them. Ask questions and know if your Major is available. Because some schools will list about 100 courses on their website and later you get to find out that they only offer 50 out of the 100.

Some schools don't update their website for a very long time.

So it is always good to confirm and check with the schools international Admissions office before making any drastic measure.

Cheers bro.
Travel › Re: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part4 by mrswagger: 3:51am On Jun 14, 2013
gr8ever: @Amefrica, its not all about cheap tuition schools, academic quality is also important. Some people on here got denied because of the type of schools they applied to. some uni's are more of a diploma mill than a four years college. There are lots of schools with same low tuition fees and high rank.

I will also say applying to 4 schools is kinda much, you'll only enroll in one of them and there's no way the VO will know how many schools you applied to, even if you apply to only one you can tell the VO you applied to 3 schools and you got 2 admit. Looking at the financial aspect, you'll send your application documents to all the four schools and also pay a non-refundable admission fee, which makes your expenses more. Make sure you scatter that TOEFL, if na Harvard sef, dem go admit you grin cheers bro.
@gr8ever, Let him apply to 4 schools. Even though he is not doing it for the sake of the Embassy, he is doing it for the Sake of himself because he stands a very high chance of getting scholarships from any of em.

Sometimes it's not all schools you applied to that will ADMIT you or give you scholarship. That is why one is Advised to apply to as many schools as possible.

Take for Example, what if he applys to just 1 school, and that school didn't Admit him, don't you know his effort and time has gone down the drain, that means he will have to wait until next year again for the next admission apllication session before he starts applying again for Admission.

Applying to 4 schools might be a little expensive as you stated above which I believe is true, But I will say it worths it.

Besides, depending on the school, most schools won't take application fee from you.

I wanted to apply to 5 schools, and I had already prepared my admission package for the 5 schools, but it narrow down to 3 schools because I didn't get my Bank statement on time and the application deadline for the remaining 2 schools had already been closed, so I couldn't meet up anymore.

Students who apply to Many schools like say atleast 3 or more upwards have more Advantage than anyone who apply to only 1 school. That's the secret you need to know about Admission application.

Look at imperiouxx on here on nairaland, he applied to 6 schools or so doing his time of admission application. Our Baba imperiouxx dey vex. He wan enter US by fire by Force. Lol!!!

I have also seen a guy on here on nairaland that applied to 8 schools. He applied to like 4 in the Us, 2 in Uk and 2 in canada.

There is one thing you need to know is that if you want something good, be ready to spend money.

Look at them now, they are Enjoyin the fruit of their labour , studying in US.

@Amefrica try your possible best to apply to the 4 schools you want to apply to because it is much more of an Advantage to you.

Forget about the money issue, it is chicken change compared to what you will benefit from with your degree you will get in US.

If you can't apply to 4 schools due to some financial difficulties, I will say Narrow it down to 3 schools, but please don't go below that.

Don't think of applying to 1 or 2 schools. It should be ATLEAST 3 schools or more...

Cheers bro....

bigfrancis21: Lmao!!! grin grin. Nairalanders won't cease from making me laugh. Boy, you didn't have to quote all that part from the page to prove your point to me. I already know what you're trying to say. grin.

Now let's go through my post one more time.

Look at the first bolded, what does it say? Complete, right? Note I didn't say you can book for your interview first before you start with the DS-160. To complete means to finish up something yet unfinished right? Now, because you need the DS-160 code to book your visa interview, you could quickly create a DS-160, copy out the application ID that will be assigned to you, save the page and logout, visit the booking website and book your interview. The application code is the only item required from your DS-160 in order to book the visa. Then after booking the interview, you can go back to the DS-160 website and complete your DS-160. You get the grammar now?cool This is found useful especially in situations when there has been no interview dates available and suddenly a few dates come out and you need to book a date immediately before all the available dates are taken and need not waste time to waste filling the DS-160 form. What you'll simply do is, create a DS-160, copy the code, save and logout, visit the visa booking site, book immediately and save. You can always return later to complete the DS-160 and submit. You could even complete and submit the DS-160 30 minutes to your interview. cool. However, you MUST submit the DS-160 before your interview and it could be anytime. This is what I did and what many other nairalanders have being doing.

Even after submitting a DS-160 and you discover some mistakes and want to change it, you can simply create another one, fill and submit, visit the interview booking site, use the update button and update/change your DS-160 with your new application code. The new DS-160 will now then be used to interview you, not the former.

Are you clear now? cool
@Bigfrancis, Wow!!! I FULLY understand everything mehn. I was surprised and worried when I saw that on their website that was why I decided to show it to you.

@Bigfrancis with the detailed analysis you just illustrated here, Not only did you help me, you have also helped people in need of help and certain information in filling the DS 160 form.

@Fadex56 take note of this bigfrancis post I'm quoting him now, as this will serve as a guideline for you when filling your DS 160 form.

Cheers Bigfrancis you are always da Best!!!!!!!

bigfrancis21: You see baa, whatever the agent can do, you can also do it yourself. If you're willing to start doing things yourself, you can start up right from this point. If only you knew of this thread earlier you would have been on the position of a 'guru on US student Visa process' by now.cool Its all good anyway.

The DS-160 is the form you fill online when booking your interview. You'll need your SEVIS code which is written on your I-20 in order to complete it. The website is https://ceac.state.gov/genniv/
Visit the site, fill the form and submit. Then you can go on to
http://www.ustraveldocs.com/ng/ng-niv-visaapply.asp
to book your visa interview.

Remember that you must pay the visa fee of N26,400 first before you can book the interview. You'll be asked for the payment receipt number while booking online.

You can book your interview first before completing the DS-160 form but you MUST submit the DS-160 before you go for interview. Its a simple process and I'll strongly advise that you do the rest by yourself from this point forward.
@Bigfrancis, I went through the Us visa Appointment link you provided and it was stated on the website that you will first need to fill the DS 160 online form before you can book an appointment as you will be asked for your DS 160 number.

Let me show you a copy part of the website so you can see it;

Step 3

The next step is to complete the DS-160 form. Be sure to read the Guidelines for Completing the DS-160 Form carefully. All information must be correct and accurate. Once the form is submitted,
you cannot make any changes. If you need assistance, please consult an immigration lawyer or translator.

The call center cannot help you complete
your DS-160. You will need your DS-160 number to book your appointment.

Step 4
You are almost ready to schedule your visa appointment!
Now you will need to create a profile in our system. Follow this link and click on

New User.
Complete all fields and create a password. Once you are in the system, you will see your dashboard.

On the left-hand side, click on Schedule
Appointment.

This will start the process for scheduling your appointment. For each applicant being scheduled you will need:

*The applicant's passport number
*The receipt number from GT Bank receipt. (Click here if you need help finding this number.)
*The ten (10) digit barcode number from the applicant's DS-160 confirmation page

As you go through the process you will be able to select your visa type, enter personal data, add dependents, select your document delivery location, confirm visa payment and finally, schedule your
appointment.

You can see it.

So @fadex56 you will need to first fill the DS 160 form before proceeding in booking an appointment.

It is one step at a time.

Cheers bro.

bigfrancis21: You can't deny going to that school just because they admitted you with insufficient funds. Many US schools do admit students with bank statements having current balance less than the required. What they are interested in is the capability of the account holder to sponsor you for your whole length of stay. That's why they ask to see 3 or 6 months history of bank statement showing steady transactions. They'll also check the total deposits made in the 3 or 6 months bank statement you submitted to them and once its high enough they'll still admit you even though the current balance is not up to the required. When they ask for a 6 month bank statement with readily available funds they want to see an account that has at least some good amount of money (at least from half of the required) to start school, pay a quarter of your school fees and living expenses. Note that the statement, readily available funds is different from funds greater than the required must be shown. This is exactly how my second school, University of Alabama that did not give me funding explained it to me. I'm not sure that schools that admit this way will go on to write 'admitted with insufficient funds' whatsoever on your I-20. The statement they'll write will be the same with what they'll write for others that provided full money statements.

The VO has no way of knowing whether you got admitted with an insufficient account statement or the statement you're coming with to the interview is different from that you used to get admission. That being said, with the I-20 of that school (which will reflect normally as I said), you can go with another bank statement different from the one you used in getting admitted that reflects the required balance, and you're good to go. Unless you have reasons for not wanting to go to that school.
@Bigfrancis, Wow!!! Thnx for the detailed analysis.. Mehn bro u dey try ooooo.

Actually, I really love the school, but I'm not choosing the school, because the tuition fee is very high.

The tuition fee on my i-20 is $16,000 per academic year. This is outrageous.

I have even received the i-20 package last week friday. It was stated on the i-20 that I have a current Bank balance of $29,000.

And I don't think I can go with another Bank statement unless I get my sponsor to get the same Bank statement for me with Enough funds which is more than what they need.

Because the school indicated my sponsor's company's name as the source of funds on the i-20 and getting another Bank statement with another company Name will be contradictory, and this will Automatically cause a DENIAL at the US Embassy. Hope you understand what I mean.

But my current balance on the Bank statement is not up to that amount they stated on the i-20.

And they gave scholarship, but their scholarship is small. $2500 international Retention scholarship.

But I'm switching to Plan B. Going with my Second school. That is why I advice people to apply to as many schools as possible.

But I applied to 3 schools, and I have been admitted to the second school, and I'm awaiting the i-20 package which you know about. TNT courier plus have picked my i-20 package from my school, so I should be receiving it by latest nxt week tuesday. I'm currently tracking the package on TNT website.

Thank God, I now have rest of mind.

Thanks Bigfrancis, You the Best!!!!!

Amefrica: Excuse me house! I wanna ask a question.. #cantlook# hav u seen anyone that applied to 4 schools n didnt get admission to any for UGS ? Just curious maybe I will be admitted.. What are my chances ? Im applying to 4 schools... Thanks. (orlarwalay, mr swagger, bigfrancis, imperiouxx, kofsy n others)
@Amefrica, there is ONE thing you need to know is that Admission to US schools is not the Problem, the problem is the VISA.

VISA is the main Koko. Schools are looking for students. That is why you see most schools admitting students without even taking a Standarlized test like SAT, TOEFL, e.t.c

So it depends on your credentials, (High School Transcript, WAEC) your high school GPA and your Standarlized test score.

You can apply to 4 schools and still get Admitted to the 4 schools. It depends on the Credentials you have.
It is not necessary you must be an Excellent student before you get ADMITTED to any US school. Many average students even get ADMITTED to many US schools.

And it also depends on the type of school, if their acceptance rate is high. When choosing schools, take note of that.

Google the acceptance rate of the school you intend applying to and make sure they have a very high percentage of acceptance rate.

Don't apply to an Ivy league school ooo. The likes of Harvard, princeton, stanford e.t.c. Unless you think say your Brain better pass computer you fit try those schools. Lol!!!

But most people I see apply to 4 schools and get ADMITTED to 3 schools.

Some apply to 5 schools and get ADMITTED to 2 or 3 schools.

So my bro it varies. if you can apply to the 4 schools you said you want to apply to, I'm very certain that you will surely get ADMITTED to atleast One school,

One of my schools I applied to in the US for the Fall 2013 session even Admitted me despite the Insufficient Funds on my Bank statement.

The school needed a minimum Bank balance of #4.5million and I had #3.9million. They still ADMITTED me.

You can see that Admission is not the problem. But I am not choosing the school because I can't risk taking that Insufficient Balance on the Bank statement to the Embassy.

Try to Study hard for TOEFL and write a Solid SOP. (Statement of purpose)

The most shocking one I have ever seen, is that some people even apply to just One school and they still get ADMITTED to that School. But I won't advice you risk that. It's a Gamble.

@Amefrica, Apply to the 4 schools and have a positive Mindset that you will surely get admitted to Not just one but ALL of em.

The reason why people apply to so many schools as possible is because you stand a very high chance of getting scholarship and getting your VISA at the Embassy.

Cheers Bro.
