marshaldollz: Amen brother,thanks...I got a score of 1530 in total,I heard the man who interviewed me hardly gives out visa,an Asian man
Wow!!!! You did averagely well. Dts pretty cool. Almost the same score with mine.

I don't think it was the SAT score becos your score is good. It wasn't just your lucky day.

Prepare well for your next interview, take time to read the previous threads and learn from student's success stories, and I'm pretty sure you shall get it this time. Don't be discouraged bro. Cheers

@Marshadolz, Sorry for the denial. I pray you get it the 2nd time in jesus name. Have faith bro.

I suspect your SAT score. If you don't mind what was your SAT score? and did you do well in it?

Because it's not all about taking standarlized test, it's also about doing pretty well in the exams.

dnpasion: Please does anyone here know how long it will take SAT to release result? I sat for the test on May 4th. Thanks
@dnpassion,

Your SAT score will be ready 19 days after you took the test. Which is on the 23rd of may. I checked collegeboard website and it says it will be ready in 9 days time. Which is on the 23rd of may.

Those who took their SAT on the 4th of May, results will be available online on the 23rd of May.

To check your result go to collegeboard website at www.collegeboard.org and login with your username and password and access your result.

Goodluck bro.

Hello house, I greet u all. I just got accepted to my school in US for the fall 2013 resumption.

I will be receiving my I-20 soon.

My sponsor wants to contact someone he knows in the US to help me pay my Sevis fee.

Please I will like to know what are the steps for him to pay the Sevis fee for me in US and who and where does he pay to?

What are the necessary requirements?

Are we paying the Sevis fee to the school or to the Embassy?

Please help me on this because I have never done this before and I don't want to make any silly mistakes.

I have researched the previous threads on nairaland but everyone is talking about paying sevis in Ecobank in Cotonou, no one is talking about the procedures to paying it in the US.

If possible post the link of the website so I could get the full details on paying the Sevis fee in US

Thanks guys. Waiting for your anticipated response.

bigfrancis21: IMPERIOUXX and Others in the House:

I read somewhere on this thread, I don't remember the page actually, about NIPOST registered mailing to overseas. Please can someone who has used it recently quickly recap how one can go about it and the cost? My course mate wants to send his documents across to a university in the UK and he needs the cheapest means possible. I then suggested to him to send via NIPOST registered mail. I'm waiting.
Gracias hombre! cheesy

@Bigfrancis,

I was shocked last month when my sister sent a Birthday card through Nipost to her friend in Austria and it got there within 2 working days.

She sent it on a friday and it got to her friend the following Monday.

Let your course mate use Nipost, they are very reliable. I sent my admission package to 3 of my schools in US and they received my documents in 9 working days.

And I paid 750 for the documents. All my documents have gotten to my schools in US without any delay.

But Please tell him to make sure he writes the correct mailing address of the school clearly on the envelop because if he doesn't address it properly, his documents won't get there.

Let him go on the school's website and check the address where documents should be sent through regular mail. Let him make sure he writes it out correctly.

Many people who used Nipost to send documents to their schools abroad and encountered problems are people who didn't correctly write the school's mailing address.

Cheers bro.

technolee: Don't mind me my brother. I actually replied and I don't know what ensued. Anyway, he did the vaccination at MMA (meningitis and yellow fever). He had the mind of doing it at Texas as a rich kid but, he saw doctors at the airport administering the test (man pikin must fetch for daily needs you know!) and he paid 1k. In your own case, you can arrange for like 3k,try it out and get back to the house for us to have a sure place of getting the vaccines when required. I am on standby for any other clarification. bigfrancis21: I don't really know much about undergraduate credits buh you could quickly check that by visiting the school's website and looking at the degree structure/plan etc. You'll definitely see what you're looking for there.
I will go on their website and check it out.

And also @Bigfrancis I want to say a Big thank you to you for the help you rendered me regarding the payment of my application fee with a GTBank mastercard.

You were so sure that the GTBank mastercard would work and it worked perfectly.

I used my little brother's friend GTBank mastercard to pay for the application fee for my school in US and it worked perfectly.

technolee: You can use any account provided it has a good cash flow and the balance is equivalent to or greater than the stipulated annual fee.
For your vaccination, a friend at Texas A&M-Kingsville did his own at the airport for 1k while leaving for spring 2013 (trust naija with sharp business as you have qualified doctors in search of daily needs). You can arrange 2k maximum while leaving but, don't wait till you get to college station unless you are a rich kid. My little contribution @my oga's at the top, you can add more pls
@technolee, which of the airport did ur friend do the vaccination, is it the international airport or local airport.

And also, do they do this particular immunization at the airport; ( Measles, Mumps, rubella) and Hepatitis B.

My school require this before you can enroll. But I intend doing the immunization before I leave for fall 2013 session. Please shed more light on this bro. Thanks. One luv

bigfrancis21: I finally got freed from the cold clutches of anti-spam Bot. grin

GTB and FIRST Bank ATM cards are all DEBIT cards and these debit cards are accepted on almost all US payment portals. I used my GTB ATM card to pay my online fees for all the different schools I applied to. My friend, like I told you, also used his GTB ATM card to pay his application fee two days ago, the same GTB ATM card. As at the time I paid mine, I had to first activate my online banking at GTB for which I paid 3g for the token. But now, it seems you no longer have to. Seems every account holder in GTB is automatically profiled onto the internet banking system. My friend who never paid for the token used his GTB ATM card to pay online two days and it worked.

Unless your school indicates specifically that they only accept CREDIT cards, ordinarily a DEBIT card should also work. Of which I'm sure of GTB DEBIT card since it has worked for many. Look for someone who has a GT Bank ATM card around you and try paying with it. If it still doesn't work, then you may have to try the money order route.

I encountered a similar problem when I was trying to pay online for the University of Tennessee Knoxville. Tried and tried, no way. This wasn't an issue of credit/debit card but rather an ADDRESS VERIFICATION SYSTEM (AVS) problem. AVS is a security system platform installed by some transaction/payment portals that is used to determine if the person paying with the credit/debit card is the true owner of the card. This it does by comparing and checking if the mailing address entered by the payee on the online payment form corresponds to the mailing address listed on the credit/debit card company's database (that is the address you gave your bank when you applied for your ATM card, the same address your bank will supply the card company it is liaising with - VISA, MASTERCARD etc). In order to scale this hurdle, you must enter your mailing address word for word, figure for figure exactly as it is on your bank statement. This I tried and tried for many weeks no way. I later learned that the AVS system for the school could only verify US addresses and not international addresses and mine was an international address! Oh boy. I had no option but to pay via money order. This money order a cousin abroad helped me to obtain and mail to the school.
@Bigfrancis, thank you so much for the detailed explanation. Oh boy u too try.... I dey feel u.. Thanks man.

I intend using my little brother's friend GTB mastercard. He has given me the card details. Do you think this will work?. As I intend transfering funds from my account to his Bank account t pay the application fee first thing on Monday morning.

Will I have to pay for online banking which u are talking about here?

Thanks man.

Hello Bigfrancis, imperiouxx and everyone in da house, I appreciate ur kind efforts here. Thumbs up to u guys, u r doing a great job.

I intend paying for my application fee for my school in US and I am having a very Big problem.

I went to GTBank today to ask if they issue credit card but they said their mastercard is a DEBIT card and not a CREDIT card because Bigfrancis said GTBank would work.

But I dont think GTBank mastercard would work because the school is requesting for a CREDIT card and not a DEBIT card.

I have tried using my FirstBank mastercard but the school said it didn't work. When I went to my Bank today they told me that FirstBank mastercard is a DEBIT card and not a CREDIT card. I guess this is where I had problem.

Bigfrancis said GTBank mastercard would work but when I went to confirm at GTBank office today they said their mastercards are DEBIT cards the same with my FirstBank Mastercard which didn't work when the school tried to use it.

I just received an email from my school today. This is the mail they sent me;

Hello

I am not sure what the problem is. You can try to pay it over the phone as well. You can call Admissions directly and ask for Rachel. The number is 507-389-1822, she may be able to help you. The only other options are listed below:

1) Have someone come in and pay it here if you know of someone in Minnesota state university or around Minnesota

2) Send a US Money Order

3) Provide an alternate credit card

Hopefully this helps!

With Kind Regards,

Please anyone in the house who has paid his application fee in US through any of this method above should please shed more light on this so I could know which steps to take.

Because I'm confused now. I don't even know which direction to follow now.

Waiting for your anticipated response.

Thanks.

bigfrancis21: The verification code is the 3-digit code behind your card. Its also callec ccv/Security or something.

Before you'll pay through a money order you'll need to confirm first from your school whether they accept money order payments. Unfortunately, you can't get a money order in Nigeria here. No where at all. Someone abroad has to help you out with it. Only try this method if online payment doesn't work.

Why not use GTB master card? A friend of mine applying to University of Rhode Island paid his application fee just two days ago using his GTB master card. He didn't encounter any problems.
Thank you so much for your kind response. I appreciate dis alot. I will contact my little brother's friend who has a GTB mastercard for the application fee payment. I just hope it won't also give me problem. Cheers bro.

bigfrancis21: What card was that? GTB? If GTB it should have worked. I used same to pay my application fees all through. Why can't you pay by yourself from down here in Nigeria since you said you've used it severally and it worked for you?

If in the end paying online doesn't work, then you might have to pay via a money order.
@Bigfrancis, thank you so much for your kind
response.. It is a FirstBank Mastercard... I don't have a GTB mastercard..

Do you know of any verification code for FirstBank mastercard?

And also, how can I pay through a money
order?. Is it all schools that accept payment
through money order because the school is telling me to provide a Credit card verification code

Thanks man...

fittty: Did you tell them its a DEBIT card and not a CREDIT card? Because that's could have been the issue when they were about to deduct their fees.
@Fitty, thank you so much for your response. I actually thought ATM cards are DEBIT cards and Mastercard or VISA card are credit cards..

I don't undastand anymore because I'm confused. The school said I should send my credit card verification code..

And I intend sending it to them as quickly as possible so they can make a Final decision on my application.

Hello everyone, I say a big thank you to u all for contributing actively to the growth of this thread.

I have a little problem. I applied to my school in US for undergraduate studies for Fall session. I mailed my mastercard Card Number when filling the application form to the school in US to pay for my application fee.

The school contacted me yesterday and told me that I should send my mastercard verification code, which I later sent to them. The 3 digit number at the back of my mastercard was what I suggested was the verification code which I sent to them.

I have used that same Mastercard to buy My SAT textbooks online on Amazon. But I was shocked when they contacted me today and said the card did not work.

Please what can I do. Does anyone have any idea or have encountered similar problem like dis before.

Thanks guys. Waiting for your anticipated response.

@pinkyz, There is no need stressing urself, wasting money and resources travelling all d way to Abuja to apply for visa when you live in Lagos.

What I will advise is that you apply in lagos first then God forbid if u r rejected visa then u can go to Abuja for the 3rd time u will be applying for visa

Try lagos for the first and second trial of your Visa application. But if things turn out bad, you can go to abuja for the 3rd trial. But I pray you will get your Visa at first trial. Amen.

And also I will like to ask you if you took any Standarlized test like GRE or SAT. If YES, then there is no need to take any TOEFL.

Because as for me I took SAT but didn't take TOEFL. And I will be going the Embassy with just my SAT score report.

But it is always advisable to take atleast a standarlised test before going to Embassy to be on a safer side. And it will prove to the VO that you are a genuine student.

But I'm still worried u weren't given a scholarship. Is the tuition fee affordable for you? If YES, you have nothing to worry about. Cheers bro.
