Alfa Seltzer: Ok. This sounds fair. Let's see what others think.should we put it to a vote then? The religious get to nominate for the best religious poster while the irreligious get to nominate for the best non religious poster, then everybody gets to vote. I put the 1st vote in favour. |
We need the Men In Black in here! The aliens are taking over!!! |
Ishilove: Let's not forget Best Overall Poster. This poster is the one who has made the most impact in this section.yes yes. And at least whoever nominates should provide some sort of evidence or reason for nominating the person... |
Alfa Seltzer: Xtians are a majority here. They will vote to favour xtianity and mock atheism. They will nomiate and elect a shameful moniker as the best non-religious poster thereby making a mockery of atheists. Likewise atheists. Although those categories sound fine, they will bring more disharmony.i suggest that the christians should do their nominations and everybody votes likewise the irrreligious should do their nominations while evrybody votes. |
Joshthefirst: bad belleREWIND...STOP...PLAY ![]() Guy you are a hopeless case. I hope you make heaven for all your troubles...Yahweh will be proud. |
Wu Zetian: Why u no answer me??No are you not Shollypops the old cargo? ![]() |
Alfa Seltzer: I think we all agree yet on one award that must be given: Best Poster of the year in religion section = Best overall poster.er... That is gonna be a problem because what the christians will consider a great thread may differ from what the others may think. The idea of best religious poster and best non religious poster is good. |
I suggest we limit the awards to a maximum of 5. Some suggesstions here already duplicates... As for a Chairman, what exactly will be his/her function? |
Won't there be any more updates on this thread? |
lady gogo: they do not claim to know of the existence of a deity, but still believe there is one.why? ![]() |
Some people really vex me with their PLAY...STOP...REWIND...PLAY AGAIN. ![]() I mean, say something sensible or shut up! Jesus blah blah blah...Bible blah blah blah meanwhile when called out to defend this full of sh.it bible they all ran away. Mcheew. You keep using your religious dogma as standards of comparison of other religions of which you know nothing about...saved from sin nonsense! |
Er...what is agnostic theist? ![]() |
Joshthefirst: cool. It's an honour to be mocked publicly in an atheist hangout thread. What has this your quote got to do with the discussion at hand? ![]() You are not religious but you believe in Yahweh and follow his instructions...Genius! |
the thread should be updated na. its 2-nil now |
Number 1 is settled then: On or before 31st 0f October unto Number 2: what awards are to be given... |
^^^ noted. to be frank, you have a valid point but I personally want us to give reason a chance in this. |
texanomaly: I'm thinking about it. Not sure yet.ok then. whenever you decide... |
Divepen: For agenda one...i will suggest the end of this monthI support this. end of the month for number 1. P.S: lets take it chronologically pls. one item after another... |
Striky you have a point but I think this should be a secular panel where reason and logic instead of (ir)religious sentiments should prevail. for now lets leave it by a simple majority until there is a complaint from the Christians or any other aggrieved party. |
Ok then. @Alfa, pls create a separate thread for the panel members to deliberate on the format of the upcoming year end religious section awards...thanks ![]() |
aManFromMars: Pick a side to make things interesting. Sitting on the fence gets boring after a while. Do you believe bulletproof jazz exists? Why or why not? Is it possible for anyone to know anything with all certainty? Is the statement 'there will always be a tomorrow' true?See bro, it is alright not to know everything. I cannot categorically state that god does NOT exist. I do not possess enough knowledge to make that conclusion and it is not a matter of making anything interesting...BUT I can categorically state that all religious notions of god are mere fantasies and false. I hope you see the difference. God is an abstract concept that can be made to fit any definition you wish(much like what Deepsight is doing) and as long as we don't know for sure what caused the big bang, the debate will continue Nevertheless, that your Lion analogy doesn't just cut it. Its not a case of fear, I'm living my life based on my own principles and trying to pursue happiness...I'm humble enough to accept that I don't know everything but I'm also intelligent enough to detect and reject bullshit when I see it. |
I agree with Alfa. Let's create a new panel thread. |
Ishilove: ALL of the above, but most especially number 1more like number 3 ![]() |
texanomaly: I have friend from there who would be very interested in that answer. So you live in PH?yes ![]() |
striktlymi: Second task!!!MY NOTE No specific person offends me here but what offends me about people is when they are purposely ignorant and delusional. hypocrisy and the holy than thou attitude of some Christians here also piss me off ![]() I also hate it when people refuse to take corrections... i'm done! waiting for the real task now...no more silly get togethers from now on ![]() |
texanomaly: Morninggood morning. will your tour of 9ja reach PH? |
aManFromMars: 'Absence of evidence isn't evidence of absence' sounds a lot like 'seeing things which are not seen' which is the biblical definition of faith. I see nothing wrong with making conclusions based on a lack of evidence; innocent until proven guilty. Imagine a judge keeping you on bail for years on end. That's the fate of the agnosticwhy pick a side when there's no evidence for either side you want to pick? there is no evidence for or against. its really simple, there is NO evidence. @bold, that is so wrong! that you can not see something does not mean it isn't there, neither does it mean that it is there. We could begin with a huge question: is God objective?NOw you're talking. do we even know? I think he should be if he/she/it made everything ![]() |
rationalmind: I'm not sure I know anyone outside nairaland who is an atheist/agnostic. I seem to surround myself with religious folks. As a matter of fact, once I tell anyone I'm an agnostic, the next question he/she asks is what does it mean. Majority of people around me haven't even ever heard the word. Let alone becoming one.@bold, same with me. although I think my elder bro is also atheist/agnostic though he definitely is irreligious with a good Christian wife (so I still get hope ) |
texanomaly: I was shaking my head at the part about about me and Alfa.OK ![]() |
aManFromMars: Beliefs aren't just limited to faith, except you're talking about religious beliefs.you know I was talking about religious beliefs na. @bolded, surely you know that that is a fallacy right? absence of evidence is not evidence of absence. by your analogy, if I can not conclusively prove that there was someone in the room before you then the most logical option would be to suspend belief until evidence is provided. this is because there is still a logical possibility that someone indeed may have been in the room before you. @red, this is where you miss it. that your definition is of most religious notions of god which frankly are full of absurdities. the most pertinent question will be...What would constitute conclusive evidence for god for us all? do we know? are we objective enough to recognize it when we see it? |
texanomaly: Nothing is bad about it. I didn't say that. SC did. I have no prob with it at all. I've quite enjoyed the association so far.I know who said it and that was the person I quoted. but you SHOOK YOUR HEAD to it though. ![]() |
