At Sunderland, a friend pays 900 Pounds per month for a well furnished apartment. Someone i know made 6M+ a month and remits 1.5M every month for his building project here. tegrianonigltd: Who never come abroad dey analyze lol. You can get a room in London for 600, 10.42 is minimum wage, in London, they pay 11.5 because of the standard of living. Imagine after tax you see 1530, you get a room for 550 or 600, transport 100, feeding 60
That’s let say 800 per month, e still has 730 which is 850k monthly to save, and most of them do overtime, so he can save 1m or more monthly in a year, 12-13 m if he is deligently, that’s for an average person ooh, people like us who earn more than 2500, imagine how much we save.
Shut up. You have forgotten some of these: Council Tax Water Bill Electricity Bill Telephone Bill Television Licence Internet Gas If you have a car - Road Tax Sky - If you have cable And you will spend more than 60GBP on feeding in a month. So, at the end of the day, he does NOT have 730 GBP to save as you claimed. |

Kukutenla: This is the problem with you APC supporters.
You have become extremists when it comes to public policies in a bid to protect your principals from public criticism.
The irony of it is that a few months ago, you guys were defending Buhari's policy of defending the naira. Buhari changes to Tinubu and suddenly floating the naira is the best option. You guys lack principles.
Let me tell you simple and straight. No nation exists that does not manipulate its currency to suit its economy.
It's a fallacy to claim floating your currency is a one size fits all just as its a fallacy to claim defending it is the best. It's more a question of what we intend to achieve.
Tinubu floated the naira to achieve exchange rate convergence thinking it will strengthen the naira. Was he able to achieve that? Obviously No!!
Cardoso has done something I give him credit for on assuming office. He's been trying to collapse the parallel market by bringing everyone into the open market.
That's why he removed the prohibition list. Though that has dropped the naira value further but at least he has an idea what he's doing.
I wonder where he was when his principal floated the naira without any buffer to how the demand pull will react.
For me Cardoso's next big task is how to stabilise forex demand and supply. If that involves defending the naira, no qualms.
It's the result that justifies the means. You guys need to learn to study trends instead of just jumping to defend what you don't even understand. It is so disappointing that despite advising you to be civil, you still went on rampage. Sometimes those of you that CLAIM economics turn it upside down. What will be the benefits to Nigeria if they manipulate the currency ?. China devalues her currency to stimulate export. What is Nigeria producing that will make it to devalue its currency, and dont you think devaluation will send the currency on a downward spiral more? You said the President floated the naira without the "BUFFER"? What exactly did you refer to as Buffer in this instance ? Tinubu did not float the naira to strengthen the naira, but to save the subsidy that was needlessy going into defending the naira, so that such could be put into good use to build infrastructure. Law of demand and supply determines the value of naira, this will naturally happen when Nigeria starts producing more, and stop chasing dollars for everything. Sometimes when you come to the open forum, open your mind. Do not needlessly start attacking policies. It is easy to be an arm chair critic, but what will you do different if you are given the opportunity to pilot the affairs of this nation. With your submission, Nigeria will simply implode under your watch. |

emorse: Of course, what's the point of fixing the refineries if we won't keep them running?
Regarding your political leaning, my lead sentence was "policies not personalities" so it honestly doesn't bother me who you support. By the way, supporting Tinubu isn't necessarily bad as long as we can do so objectively. Thanks for clarifying anyways and I hope that you're also clear on my position too.
These guys have been borrowing and they keep borrowing but only end up looting and relooting. Those monies would not solve all our problems but at least we would have less to worry about.
Only our leaders and their cronies benefit from corruption. And those people are not on nairaland debating issues with you and I. But in a conversation such as this, I feel it's necessary that we outline ALL the problems and proffer workable solutions. So I apologise for making you feel attacked. It was never my intention.
Now as regards taking hard decisions, taking loans is not necessarily a bad idea (the US owes China over $800b) but the government must be determined to improve local production of "goods who's prices we can set and control".
I think one thing we clearly both agree on is that we have sh*tty leaders. I just don't believe that we have to suffer more than we already are before things can get better. I agree with improving local production but you cannot set and control prices in a capitalistic market. |

Black man and an inferiority complex.
See how being an American becomes a debate.
If an American who is also a German (dual citizen) is conferred with an award in Berlin, no one in America will talk about his German citizenship, rather his achievement.
Nigerians had been offered British citizenship in the time past on arrival at Heathrow which they proudly declined. It was a respectful thing to be a Nigerian then.
Instead for many here to appreciate and acknowledge the hard work behind Davido's achievement, they are laser focused on his American citizenship as if it is the automatic pathway to success. Don't forget there are still lot of homeless American citizens.
May God, the citizens and Nigeria leaders consciously restore this country to his rightful place, so that it will be a thing of joy to be a Nigerian again. |

Even when i try to date the ones that don't have paper, regular work visa holders like me. They seem to want to be with the guys that have papers.
Also, when i am old, i would like to return to Nigeria. Marrying outside would make that transition very difficult.
I study other races, Immigrant groups from India and Asia. they work together well, and don't have these difficulty.
Should i give up on being with a Nigerian or keep trying ?
Regards. Likes attract. How do they want to know you dont just want them for papers? Then, you move abroad at adult stage, most of them are born there and have internalised the culture of the country, which you are still struggling with. What makes them laugh do not make you laugh. What they spend money on, you consider frivolous. Their thinking and orientation largely different from you. Why dont you date a Nigeria lady who migrated to Nigeria as an adult like you? If we take your comment to ots logical conclusion,no graduate of any Nigerian university in any field would be allowed to japa You don't get it. Westerners use student loans from the govt to fund their education which they have to pay back. The subsidy that goes into medicals is obvious and large. No one says they should not relocate but the Nigeria govt needs to pass a law that will mandate it for to refund the govt subsidy or practice for certain years in Nigeria to liquidate the debt. Nigeria as of today is not that rich to be training doctors for almost free using taxpayers money only for them to abandon the same taxpayers and go abroad to practice. That will be the smart thing any nation will do. Do you really know how much it costs to train a doctor? |

People have bn migrating for years but the last 8 years made it more attractive to move, even for those doing well in naija...
When dollar was 150....an entry level doctor/Banker/soldier etc earning 120-150k may not even see the need to move....and that is just 1k dollars
Right now...how many entry level jobs even pay 300 dollars I.e. 300k naira and u expect people not to move to where their wealth is sure and preserved in a reasonable currency!? When you talk about Revenue, try to talk about expenditure as well. It is not all rosy as those countries are very expensive to live. They create a bubble to make it look rosy by trapping you forever in debt - it is a debt culture where most things are owed to the banks - your mortgage, your cars etc. I recognise that each individual's case is different but most people are just getting by abroad. |

Daystar7: Ur point of view is very one sided, what about the working conditions of the said doctors and their welfare. Nigerian health sector is not up to standard in terms of equipment and facilities to carry out the job and they're understaffed there by overworking doctors and under paying them. There's no incentive to practice in Nigeria if I can work in a better condition abroad and recieve higher pay while raising my family in a more saner clime as well where they can easily have a head start in their careers. U talking like a sadist, go and study medicine if u think it's easy and then work in the present condition of Nigerian hospital if you're serious about patriotism. Why don't ur politicians trust them with their life but 'll rather go to same abroad? Have you condemned that? Head dey pain u That is the problem with you medical doctors - Superiority complex. In your warped mind, you think it is your profession that is the most difficult to master. You better stop being delusional. Who says you can understand the abstract nature of my own profession? I was being fair in my submission. I stated clearly I had no issue with medical practitioners relocating but you cannot relocate at the expense of taxpayer's money.
It costs money to train a doctor and you got this on the cheap from the Nigeria Government, only for you to bail out under whatever excuses, without repaying the cost of your training. That is not fair. I have offended you because I suggested govt should make you repay back the debt of your training. That is the right, fair thing to do. Which profession in Nigeria has it good? Which profession gets the commensurate salary? So all professionals should depart because the infrastructures are not there? You are free to go but the Government should force the doctors from repaying the cost of their training. Nigeria cannot afford to be the training ground for other western nations. |

I don't have issue with people relocating, but I'm so angry with the Nigeria Govt.
Nigeria heavily subsidized the doctors training, only for the doctors to relocate after few years of practice.
Why don't you make them sign an undertaking to recoup the cost of your investment with interest before you can sign any documents that they will need to relocate.
As it is, taxpayers are training the doctors for free for these foreign countries.
