mkenya254: I lived stayed in VI for 2wks at the Radisson Blu Hotel and Ikoyi at the Southern Sun for a week. During the time I visited some clients in Lekki, Yaba and also some famous clubs in Sululeri e. G. Lighthouse.
Lekki seems to be more of a nice apartment complex area with VI and Ikoyi having more stand alone houses. I think they have wealthier people saying there. There are more modern architecture like buildings in Nairobi while Lagos buildings have more of a traditional feel despite being huge as well
VI is very poorly planned and I hated the way the ocean looks so polluted especially on the long bridge going to visit from the mainland. There is also a very large floating slum there.
I would prefer the affluent kenyan neighborhoods of Nairobi compared to Lagos. This is because in Nairobi has a lot of forests in the town actually. So you have very beautiful greenery views though it is quite colder (13-24) degrees annually. But maybe because I am not used to the heat of Lagos being at sea level and Nairobi being at 5800 ft above sea level. There is also generally more to see in Nairobi since you can do safari drive inside Nairobi, there are quite a number of zoos. The Las Vegas of Kenya(Naivasha and Nakuru) are also short drives away from Nairobi
I also saw the king of yoruba who came to dine at Southern Sun quite a number of times. I was so shocked that a bunch of old people followed him ringing bells etc and that even very educated looking people bowed to him. I thought the Kings were just elements of Nollywood.
Yaba and Sululeri seem not so safe areas especially after dark for the foreigner. Also Ikeja. I also hated the fact that when you are a foreigner everybody keeps asking you for money even some people I asked for directions to the washroom at the airport !!, club bouncers etc.
Taxis are very old and run down but Ubers are very clean and new. But taxis are way cheaper than Nairobi with a taxi in Nairobi charging double the Uber rate at any time.
Something else I did not understand is why buying a Sim card takes almost 30mins with fingerprints etc. I also noticed data is way more expensive there compared to Kenya. For example, I have 30Mbps cable Internet and TV at my house than I only play 56 dollars for monthly. Mobile data costs me 10USD for 3Gb data from the most expensive telco locally.
Most people from your country love sweet liquor, Orijin and Andre champagne in the clubs. Kenyans like bitter alcohol so I felt as if I was taking fruit juice drinking Orijin And alcohol is quite cheap compared to Kenya. That I like with a 750ml heineken or orijin bottle going for around 2-3Usd while in Kenya 300ml of Heineken costs you 3-5Usd depending on the location. Locally brewed beers are 2-3USD but sold as 500ml.
Cost of living is just slightly cheaper than Kenya as well. I loved the Nigerian cuisine though like most Kenyans who travel to Nigeria I couldn't handle the extreme Chilli in all your dishes
People are generally friendly(African culture) but there are also a lot of people looking to cheat you on the streets as with any African country I assume. I couldn't understand why the airport authority in Nigeria let's a bunch of people in the airport who are not Travellers hence I had to bribe to even get to the airline desk. About 3000naira. Kenya is very corrupt but that is only in the police force and politicians. In Nigeria to even get directions you pay
Nigerian women are pretty but I don't understand why there is so much bleaching and wigs though. I thought Kenyan women put on a lot of make up until I saw Nigerian ladies. That was a disappointment. This frenzy is sadly becoming introduced in Kenya by Nigerians as you see with socialites such as Vera. This is such a shame as Africans should appreciate dark skin. But as much as Nigerian women are beautiful I noticed Kenyan women have more booty in case that tickles your fancy
Affluent Nigerians like the Mercedes G class while Affluent Kenyans like the Range Rover. The Honda is very popular in Nigeria while in Kenya it has less than 3% market share with Toyota being the primary car for the ordinary Kenyan.
Shopping for clothes in Nigeria is a better experience(more designer brands) than Kenya though for restaurants I think Kenya leads since any mall easily has 5-10 different restaurant chains even the smaller malls like Diamond Plaza.
Music in Nigeria is ahead of Kenya since all clubs play only Nigerian music with a few Jazz at hotel bars. Kenyans primarily listen to Jamaican riddim/raga, hip hop, Kenyan and Nigerian music, bongo then SA Kwaito in that order. Jazz and country is also common in better restaurants. In terms of traffic, both Nairobi and Lagos are similar. Traffic at the Lekki toll station is as much as traffic on Mombasa road in Nairobi.
For public vehicles, Nairobi has loud and very pimped matatus so that may not be comfortable while Lagos has very old ones.. Can't recall their name. Both are however prone to pick pocketing. I never boarded the Lagos ones but I was told that I should avoid them and only use taxis or the company car.
Nairobi is undergoing more road expansions though but the proposed introduction of toll gates may result to a Lekki traffic situation. Time will tell.
Large businesses in Nigeria seem to be predominantly international companies e.g. Shoprite while Kenya has more local successes even though some are owned by indigenous Indians e.g. Nakumatt and Bidco GBAAAAMM!!!!! We have been waiting for you for the longest time. gaki gaki. A Kenyan who has been to 9ja. Let me process this first. Dang!! |

Almost everything in Kenya is either being done by Humanitarian agencies, African development bank, Chinese, Indians e.t.c. Nigeria is all about native black Africans empowering and developing themselves. Repeating a lie over and over again, never makes it true. The first lie is as true as the last one. |

Ednite: The problem of Eritreans is undefined,
but don't compare our fight with kenya Nigeria fight, ours is way different.
they took the port separate the countries migrate back here still not satisfied staying in our country but insult us
what do you call this? By the way, Egypt is a major reason for our separation. They told eritreans that they are Arabs then Eritreans joined Arab league. Eritreans become tail of Arab countries. They got funded with money from Arabs to have the power to separate from us. they become independent from Ethiopia but dependent on Arabs. What a shame. . . If you were an Ethiopian, would you say nothing about this?
ANY KENYAN OR NIGERIAN CAN JUDGE US
I have no word for Egypt, but I will tell them their dream of making river Nile their own is over!! when it comes to Oromo independence movement, it was shocking. I am scared of thinking what people are thinking now. Ethiopia lost Djibouti and Eritrea; nothing gained but lost. I bet Oromo ppl learn from that. I care for my country especially because I know our history was made together, not one tribe alone. it's sad when we were supposed to take it to the next level, but turn our faces to another side and say that 'all that history made is over because the new history being made in recent is from a new state. No more Ethiopian.' my heart is really broken, I swear. I believe civil wars we had and everything in the past is enough to suffer with, why we have to add more? I love Oromo ppl, they are my ppl too, but if they walk with such a blindness, not seeing the priceless value of unity, even if they had a chance for independence, they themselves will separate into 5 again. Okayyy!!!! Enough said. But your online fights with Eritreans are epic and very very serious. Peace be to both nations and i insist, you are still brothers. The dam is a big project and i pray you succeed. Amen. Ps: we are not fighting nigerians, we are simply reducing their ignorance of kenya on this thread. |

Welcome to this thread. I have always had trouble separating an Ethiopian from an Eritrean Your languages sound practically the same even to the untrained ear. I grew up in Nairobi not far from the orthodox church in hurlingham and met and befriended many Ethiopians in my youth . I ate wot and doro wot with injera and goat meat. ianSweet: Majority of Kenyans live in Bushes, forests, villages and slums. I believe so, cos for a country of 40 million people, yet they have only 1 city (Nairobi) with above a million people. All the other smaller towns and cities put together (Mombasa, Nakuru, Kisumu, Eldoret e.t.c) are barely up to 5 million people. This tells us that only about 25% of Kenyans live in cities & towns, and even half of those in the so called towns live in slums (courtesy of Kibera, mathare and others emerging the largest slums in Africa). That's really terrible for a country that wants to compete with Nigeria.
In Nigeria every of our 36 states + Abuja (Federal territory) have at least 1 city (the state capital city) with over 500,000 people. Some states have 2, 3 or more cities with over a million or half a million people. We have at least a hundred towns with about 100,000 people or more. And all these individual states and cities are developing at their own unique paces. At least 70% of the 200million Nigerians live in developing towns and cities. Nigeria's development is explosive. It's just a matter of time. You are an utter utter disgrace. Epically, fantastically, monumentally, royally disgraceful. Go to some other section, and spare us the indignity of having to share the same space. Ps. Think about the impending hike in data charges coming, and factor that into your next outburst. Dang!! Not derogatory at all. My experience tells me otherwise, numbers don't lie. Many nigerians know little of the rest of Africa. Indeed, many africans at large know little of even their immediate neighbours. Africans tend to be poorly travelled and even more uninformed than you can imagine. I have a very thorough working and studying knowledge of east and southern Africa for instance and am itching to go to west Africa one day, inshallah. I can confirm even here on this thread uninformed and ignorant responses by many of the contributors as evidence that alot of people are just filling space and earning seun precious dollars. My question still stands: how familiar are you with the rest of Africa? ( Any aspect at all, you have chosen cultural attire as your entry point, so you can begin there ) |

Muafrika2: I had to post this here. Big pharmaceutical companies will be coming after it... If they haven't already ... hope Nigeria owns it ....
the world waits with bated breath for the outcome of the on-going clinical trial of HIV vaccine in South Africa, scientists in Nigeria appear to have hit the bulleye in the search for the effective medical cure for HIV/AIDS.
A research team at the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU), Abia State led by Prof. Maduike Ezeibe has been able to prove that Medicinal Synthetic Aluminium-magnesium Silicate (MSAMS), which it developed, can cure HIV/AIDS.
The result of the clinical trial of the antiretroviral efficacy of MSAMS in male and female HIV/AIDS patients was published in the British Journal of Medicine & Medical Research 18(11):1-7, 2016; Article no BJMMR.29018.
It was also among the papers presented last Wednesday at the World Virology Conference 2016 held at Texas, U.S. Though Ezeibe could not attend the conference because of his inability to raise money for his flight tickets, the organisers insisted that he sent a video presentation, which was played and applauded at the conference.
Speaking with journalists at the weekend on the apparent lukewarm attitude of Nigeria’s health authorities to his medical breakthrough, the professor of Veterinary Medicine said that since 2014 when he was issued with the national patent right (Ref. No. NG/P/2012/639, 2014) no further step had been taken to commercialise it or get the international patent right by Nigeria.
“We Africans lack confidence in ourselves,” he lamented, adding that the medicine that he had discovered to have antiretroviral properties is an old medicine which had been in use.
“The only science we did is that we discovered that it has charges – negative and positive and since HIV has positive charges, the MSAMS use its negative charges to attract and destroy HIV,” he said.
He said that HIV/AIDS had remained incurable because of the small size of the virus and immune deficiency it causes hence any anti-retroviral medicine that could effectively tackle the problem must be smaller (nano-particles).
According to him, particles of HIV could be as small as 110nm which was why they easily crossed physiological barriers to ‘hide’ in cells of the brain, bone marrow and testes, which existing antiretroviral medicines with bigger molecules could not reach.
Ezeibe explained: “HIV destroys lymphocytes (immune cells that clear infections from organs that are inaccessible to medicines. So, nothing was known that could terminate its infections (and) for that the infection was said to be in ‘sanctuary’.”
The professor reasoned that since Aluminum-magnesium Silicate (AMS) molecular platelets (nanoparticles) are smaller (0.96nm) than HIV, the nanoparticles cross physiological barriers to act on all body cells.
But the snag was that AMS is not found as mineral deposits in Nigeria whereas there are large deposits of Aluminum silicate and magnesium silicate in the country both of which are used as medicines for treatment of animal and human diseases.
So in order to get a purer form of AMS, Ezeibe reacted the two medicinal minerals (Aluminum silicate and magnesium silicate) and the Aluminum magnesium silicate was born, the synthetic medicine that has now been proved to cure HIV/AIDS.
“We are using medicine that is so small that wherever HIV goes it can get there, catch it and destroy it,” he assured.
The efficacy of Ezeibe’s synthetic medicine is already generating interest among medical doctors and those that were involved in the clinical trial have already joined his research team after using the drug to treat their patients with astonishing results.
Interestingly, on the day Ezekiel’s research breakthrough was being presented at the world Virology Conference in Texas, he was also making a presentation before the Senate of MOUAU. It is now expected that the university authorities would take up the advocacy to recognise and commercialise this important breakthrough in medical science by a Nigerian.
http://www.reportsafrique.com/2016/12/nigerian-scientists-prove-efficacy-nano-medicine-hivaids-cure/ There is an unwritten code in many African nations to disrespect and disregard their own professionals. I shall follow this story as it develops. |

For seven memorable minutes, the world stood up and watched as brilliant Kenyan swimmer Jason Dunford held the Olympic 100 metres butterfly record that he shattered on the way to making it to Friday’s semi-finals of his speciality at Beijing’s National Acquatic Centre. Stunned swimming analysts froze in awe inside the 18,000-seater “Water Cube”, one of Beijing’s architectural masterpieces, as the 21-year-old student of human physiology at Stanford University swam 51.14 seconds to break American Michael Phelps ’ old mark of 51.25 that he set at the Athens Games four years ago. When it comes to 7s Rugby Kenya is one of the core teams, say something like the English premier league Kenya can be compared to Everton, not weak and not the very strongest. Kenyans might be good at running but they are world champions, not local champions. People migrate, we all started from Africa thousands of years ago, and if an asian or a white person calls Africa home, it is his home. Human knows no colour And a more clear map of East African language groups. Oromo are the largest ethnic group in Ethiopia and want independence and for Oromia country, they are the largest cushitic group, somali are the second largest cushitic group, there are many other smaller ones in east africa. Dont know about other Afro Asiatic groups tbh Please continue educating our 9ja nairalanders about the peoples that come together to make Kenya. Most of them have fallen into the (western oriented ) maasai bandwagon, whereby the tourist brochures paint a picture of an exotic land with strangely attired natives and nothing more. As a kenyan who has on several occasions been externalized from his country i often fall victim to this stereotype. Maasai are part of kenyan people, but so are kikuyus, taitas, luhyas, kisiis, merus, luos, tharakas, turkanas, kambas...... you know the drill. My personal interactions with nigerians living in kenya has made me realize that alot of them are ignorant of Africa beyond her immediate borders. Ps. I saw bemba tribe from Zambia there. naijalander: Mehn you neegaz need to chill, Nigerians don't hate Kenyans. For real though, I have this friend whose a male model, he'd been in Lagos for a runway show and the day he was about to leave, he found out his travel agency (Nigerians actually) had back-dated his ticket for a previous flight so he had to rebook and got stuck at Lagos Airport without money for cab back to the apartment. He called that afternoon, I worked at Surulere in Lagos then.
I told him just go outside and explain to anybody, you'll be settled, don't worry. He called back 20 minutes later still scared, I told him 'guy calm down, just ask anybody around you for assistance'. The next day, he called me to tell me he simply asked a random guy assistance and the guy literally drove him back to the apartment, no charge!
Fast forward July 2016. I'm at Jomo Kenyatta Airport, 2 am, invitation letter from my client in hand facing a Kalenjin and Kikuyu immigration officers, a man and a woman. The guy told me I should have brought the persons passport bio page photocopy, which is true, I completely forgot. so I decide let me find a phone to call this guy maybe he can place a call through to them or perhaps an instant email (you should know it's usually an intentional delay when they do that, the typical nigerian will simply give them money, if it's visa free travel an invitation letter should do). I walk up to this Kenyan woman and ask if I could use her phone to make a call and her response was, her words not mine: "that can never happen at a airport" Long story short you East Africans have no empathy with ya gaddamn genocides and alcoholic debauchery.
I also remember my younger sister fell off a boda boda in Roysambu and nobody even tried to help up until my cousin got there. Look for some where else to point fingers and dump stats, and GDPs and power grids and interest rate poverty rate crap in, Kenya is a beautiful, peaceful country. Nigeria is just plain old exceptional, so many things rolled into one, it's not supposed to make sense to you bhozhoz. But you see, you do dislike kenyans(and now you want to drag other east africans in!! ) One sentence negates the other, which shows that you're not saying the truth, leaving us to believe what is clearly evident in your tone . You can't use a negative experience to judge a whole society man. I was carjacked in Joburg once only 2 hours after arrival at OR Tambo, but you won't see me hating on South Africans. It amazes me someone can live in a society for a considerable portion of time, and have nothing good to say about their hosts. Am simply amazed! |
