nijanigga: Because of the total hopelessness in Nigeria,Nigerian youths find solace in football, that's why they turned into Nigerian football hooligans.is that the same thing with those in England too??...idi0t |
vedaxcool: For someone who shamelessly post nude pictures of people on this section, you should show more decorum and learn to shut up rather than making senseless comment every now and then, terrorist sponsor! and sorry atheism is not a religion and Islam is a religion nobody made you gate keeper of the religion section, so i will keep posting in this section till the day you hang yourself, shuuu!we have a section here to discuss religion; you guys cried like little children that you wanted your own section because you cannot stand criticism; you got your wish, so why not stay there to circlejerk with your fellow worshipers of a barbaric arabian deity? n yea, i'm not religious but happy to have the freedom to discuss religion in the "religion" section neither i'm i a politician nor a musician but enjoy the same freedom to post in the politcs or music section unlike your intolerant sub-section...and is "shamelessly posting unclad pictures" on the internet worse than pedophilia--frolicking with 6 year olds? is it worse than murdering innocent women and children in the name of boko haram or crashing airplanes into buildings for the sake of 72 imaginary virgins?? don't you have some women to stone somewhere? goldplated: You are the one who is a jobless illiterate i must say. havent you seen all the similarities from american music scene, to the bba?smh @ this conspiratard...you even bother to read the link i posted, or reading is not one of your strong points? coconut head |
ItsModella: I bet the OP cannot even define or give a brief history of Illuminati.i tire...illiteracy really is eating deep into the nigerian psyche let me try n school these ignoramuses...the real illuminati actually existed in bavaria in the late 18th century and they were nothing but advocates of free thought, secularism, liberalism, republicanism and gender equality..however, the then king of bavaria (you know, those who got their unquestionable divine right to rule from the church) went on to suppress the organization. the conspiracy theory thing started with john robison and augustin barruel in the same late 18th century, arguing that the illuminati were starting revolutions all over europe promoting anti-clericalism, anti-monarchism, anti-patriarchalism and the development of a world noocracy (aristocracy of the wise)...this actual conspiracy theory wasn't seriously picked up again until the period in between WWI and WWII by the nazis and nazi-like parties, members within the fundamentalist christian movement, and some right-wing populists...the theory proposed by right-wing populists (such as the infamous john birch society) is the only Illuminati conspiracy theory popular today and it isn't even consistent with the original one, not to include the mere speculation involved you know, as you get older, you realize how stupid and incompetent everybody (including yourself) is...once you realize that, the notion that there are some kind of supermen somewhere who are possessed of perfect intelligence and can manipulate everything without a hitch becomes obviously silly. The most powerful men in the government can't even come up with a balanced budget, how could they control the world? people come up with conspiracy theories out of paranoia and, ironically, a failure of imagination...they can't face the fact that the problems in the world are simply that - problems, that come from the multitude of stupid decisions, greedy actions, personal vices, and competing interests that work in the world, so they imagine these evil supermen who are to blame for it all, which makes it all look so simple for them, but in reality, it's not...life is complicated and we need to deal with it as it is... as for you illuminati conspiracy promoters, why not read a book, or better yet, get a college education instead of delving into bs youtube videos made by jobless illiterates with various mental disorders living in their mamas basement...to read about the mental disorder that is the modern day conspiracy theorist you can check out these links: http://www.skepdic.com/illuminati.html http://sabotagetimes.com/life/911-four-other-conspiracy-theories-that-are-absolute-nonsense/ "my people perish for a lack of knowledge" |
The bottom line however is that my faith as a Christian in a lot of instances can be defended using reason and I maintain that faith and reason work together instead of against each other.
yea right, same way al qaeda can defend crashing planes into a building to go meet up with allah's 71 virgins in paradise using reason... From the 2 contradictory creation account timelines of genesis in which yahweh makes a sky-dome, fixes all the lights like the sun, moon and stars into it, and then creates a magic garden with a talking snake... ...to the ridiculous little tower of babel story about some ancient people who try to build a tower to reach the sky so they can be with yahweh who gets scared and curses them with many languages (and this, not the evolution of human speech in different cultures isolated from each other, is why we have many languages)... ...to the sheer absurdity of the story of noah's ark and the global flood of how the human race as well as the animals survived on a large wooden boat that included an insufficient genetic diversity and a perfect god who twice repents... ...to the story of exodus in which the great egyptian empire gets zapped by yahweh with 10 curses yet strangely there's not a shred of evidence in actual historical accounts; and moses then leads his people through the desert for 40 years, sustained by magic food from heaven and water from a stone... ...to the passion and resurrection of jesus in which yahweh expresses his unconditional love for you by sending himself down to earth to sacrifice himself to himself because bleeding on a cross was the only way he could convince himself to forgive you for the fact that one of your ancestors made from a rib ate a magic fruit after speaking with a talking snake. the holy zombie then flew up into the sky after being dead for 3 days. abi na the fact that john was exiled in an island known for its mushrooms when he wrote his awesome stories of 10 headed dragons and giant locust with human faces spewing fire... or is it the book of job were your god decides to screw around with a mortal on a bet with satan what about when king david organised a census that enraged your god so much that he wipes out some 70,000 israelites with a plague but spares the main culprit - David himself.... you know, maintaining that "(religious)faith and reason work together instead of against each other" is actually a mental condition; it's called "Delusion" |
wendieposh: Cos she's colored she's Nigerian? Na wa odo these people asking these stupid questions live or have ever been to nigeria b4 you don't need documents to decipher if those people where nigerians or not... |
Krucifax: In summary Faith is good for society as a wholethousands of years of religious wars, persecution, genocides, crusades, jihads, christian inquisitions, women suppression, al qaeda, boko haram etc says otherwise If we did not have faith systems the world would be a wild and dangerous place as people would have no fear of karma and repercussions.Sweden and Denmark are amongst the most atheistic countries in the world but enjoy great economies, social order, freedom and peace; now contrast that with corruption and poverty riddled Nigeria where every mile in the south is a church building, and boko haram is running amok in the north |
1)naija oil is full of fat.
1) mr. smarty pants, i know...but naim dem dey take cook naija soup; abi u wan take olive oil cook egusi? 2) remember when you check in you may not see your luggage until you get to your destination,2) i am not a first time traveler both in, around, and outside of the U.S (so, irrelevant contribution) the oil may end up spilling in the process.3)oga, i go cover am well
and don't put them in your check in bag.
4) see my number 2 above, over sabi house wife |
(Religious) Faith is believing in something that isn't (and cannot) be proven. Reason is thinking about something and trying to find the truth by proving or disproving something. These two conflict completely. The only time anyone employs faith as a support for holding a belief is when there is not reason enough to support the belief. e.g. two plus two equals four (reason); two plus three equals six (requires "faith" to believe that) |
My wife brought all manner of naija food, gaari ijebu, oki, eja gbigbe, amala dudu, ofada rice,iru,ata....just few months ago, except Epo pupa.
okay. so i guess i'm not at risk of my stuff getting tossed out cos that would really suck Anything liquid is not advisable.so, palm oil in a bottle is not advisable? |
I live in a part of the States where I can't get Nigerian local food products, and never dared to carry along some before cos I know of how strict they be at the border with cheese, meat, vegetables etc. and I wouldn't want em dumped out...but i often wonder, you see all kinds of naija products when you visit texas or maryland from all kinds of soup leaves to even snail...my question is, has anyone successfully taken naija food product into the states before? if so, what particular product...i'm planning on maybe bringing that packaged ghanain fufu, probably grinded egusi in a can, and red/palm oil...wil that be ok. edit: I think i actually have taken in grinded pepper soup spice n cray fish before but that was like 10 years ago...abeg, any helpful input will be appreciated |
Alfa Seltzer: In that case, let Seun remove a religious zealot as the moderator in this section or provide a christian sub-section like he did for the muslims and let the zealot moderate there.i feel your pain man... |
-- |
Alfa Seltzer: The common denominator is we are all anti-christian.1. ...so are muslims, and any other religion outside of the christian sect...i don't believe in the imaginary jewish yaweh, arabian allah as much as i don't believe in the nordic's thor, greek's zeus, yorubas olodumare, mister satan or whatever imaginary man made deity you pagans be worshiping these days 2. one does not necessarily have to be "anti-christian" to be atheist; the fact that i don't believe in the flying spaghetti monster does not mean that i'm against poor ol flying spaghetti monster tuagbo: @Alfa I understand your demands even your frustrations but i doubt any of us will be alive to see an atheist section on nairaland. The standard of education in Nigeria, even the social existence of Nigerian, encourages mediocity and destroys critical thoughts."You've already lost the battle even before the battle began."i dunno what you're on about because i personally wouldn't want an exclusively atheist section...only people scared of those critical to their beliefs (or lack of) will be insecure enough to want to be secluded in a section where they can just circlejerk to each other, like the muslim sub section |
striktlymi: Why not speak for yourself? If you are an Atheist and you are tolerant then good for you but do not make this about every other Atheist. You only know and trust yourself!i'm not speaking for atheists or as an atheist...in case you haven't noticed, we live in the 21st century...freedom of religion, the principle that supports the freedom of an individual or community, in public or private, to manifest religion or belief in teaching, practice, worship, and observance; and also include the freedom to change religion or not to follow any religion, is a fundamental human right. Even apostasy, the freedom to leave or discontinue membership in a religion or religious group (in islam you get killed for that, most religions today you get ostracized) is covered by Article 18 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights it's mandatory for sikhs from india to always put on their turban in public; are you gonna deny them such religious rights too? we live in a modern world my friend, freedom of (and from) religion is a basic human right, whether your backwards thinking fellow religionists thinks it's right or not |
this is what in latin is called, post hoc ergo propter hoc, a logical fallacy that states that "since that event followed this one, that event must have been caused by this one." often shortened to simply post hoc, it is a particularly tempting error because temporal sequence appears to be integral to causality. The fallacy lies in coming to a conclusion based solely on the order of events, rather than taking into account other factors that might rule out the connection. Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Post_hoc_ergo_propter_hoc this is the same pattern all testimony givers, be it a muslim or christian, follow |
striktlymi: Hallo Ak,nothing...you know, "religious" people are the most "religious" intolerant; they'll kill if they have to, unlike an atheist who just tries to appeal to logic but still receives condemnation from these hypocrites |

For one, if god really answers prayers, 500 years of scientific study would have revealed that christians are better off than non-Christians (you see them everyday praying vehemently for success, good health, goodluck etc)...as we know, this is not the case (most of the richest, most successful people and countries, are not necessarily christians; goodluck and good health is evenly spread across nations). we have christians who are rich, poor, sick, healthy, do well in school, fail exams, do good or bad in business, receive visa, get refused visa; christians who survive accidents as well as those who don't etc so do we have muslims, atheist, buddhist, hindus etc experiencing the same aforementioned circumstances. unfortunately, answering prayers after all, is a BIG part of being god and it doesn't take a logician to see that it follows that christian lives would be undeniably better because they pray, if prayer was really answered, thus one of god's attributes, when held up to the scrutiny of evidence and proof, fails. i remember reading an interesting article that asked (paraphrased) "why would god answer your prayer (for personal success, cancer cure etc) when s/he continues to let millions live in poverty/pain/etc?" think of this... https://www.atheistmemebase.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/189-This-must-be-what-people-pray-for.jpg OP, take heart n i too also hope you come out stronger from this. to try n lighten things up a bit let me leave u wit a lil joke: In a small Texas town, a new bar started a building to open up their business. The local baptist church started a campaign of petitions and prayers to block the bar from opening. Work progressed, however right up til the week before opening, when a lightning strike hit the bar and it burned to the ground. The church folks were rather smug in their outlook after that, til the bar owner sued the church on grounds that the church was ultimately responsible for the demise of his building, either through direct or indirect actions or means. The church vehemently denied all responsibility or any connection to the building's demise in its reply to the court. As the case made its way into court, the judge looked over the paperwork. At the hearing he commented, "I don't know how I'm going to decide this, but as it appears from the paperwork, we have a bar owner who believes in the power of prayer, and an entire church congregation that does not." take heart OPHow god actually answers prayers: |
