PoliticsAnambra: You Are A Useless Governor – Ngige Attacks Obiano by MyopicMods(op): 12:51pm On Feb 08, 2021
The war-of-words between stakeholders of the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra State over the November 6 governorship election in the state has deepened with Labour and Employment Minister Chris Ngige describing Willie Obiano as an “epicurean and governor-do-nothing.”

He said Obiano’s idleness was the primary reason he takes and posts ”anyhow pictures” on the internet.

Swiftly, APGA’s National Chairman Victor Oye dubbed Ngige a “jealous” minister and one of the ”green-eyed politicians” in the country.

Ngige, at a meeting of APC stakeholders and members of the Registration and Revalidation Committee of the party in Anambra State at the weekend inferred to a picture on the internet in which Obiano posed with a dog. He told the stakeholders and committee members that no busy governor would have such leisure take such picture, except the likes of Obiano.

The minister berated Obiano and APGA for what he called ”abysmal performance in the state” and vowed that “we will use our broom to sweep him and his party out of Government House.”

Alleging that Obiano was about to bequeath the people of the state with a huge debt, Ngige boasted that ”we can’t take it anymore.”

His words:”We want to drive away governor-do-nothing, who’s sitting down there. You can’t be a governor and just cross your legs and be playing music and say you’re a governor.

”No work is going on in this state. The people of the state are tired of APGA. We’re tired of bringing people who don’t know their left from right; people who just want to come and learn how to be a governor.

”He has only 12 months more to stay and for five months, he’ll be a lame dog governor after the election, from November to March . We have nothing to point at what he has done here, practically nothing.

”Yet, they’ve gotten all sorts of money. President Muhammadu Buhari, gave them bailout funds, yet they find it difficult to pay minimum wage and they got budget support yet medical workers, including doctors, went on strike here for nine months.

”What kind of government is this? Teachers are on strike, you can’t recruit new ones. We’re going to start this journey today.

”We’ll start it with the governor sitting here, governor-do-nothing. It’s only three flyovers he has achieved, and one airport with debt of N180 billion, Is that what you people want?

“We’ll sweep them and their footprint out from Anambra soil so they can be forgotten. They’ve blocked our way enough.

”We have good men in APC. We’re going to give you men who know about infrastructure, not only roads. We’re going to give you a governor that will continue from where I stopped.

”APGA’s government has punished the people of the state and people of Igbo land because they’re a stumbling block from getting Anambra to join the national grid of power.

”Some of us have been fighting them, but this fight now is fight-to-finish. They have to clear and leave us to go and join the national grid and take the Igbo to mainstream national politics.”

However, APGA National Chairman said Ngige was just jealous that Obiano had taken the state to an enviable height.

He added: ”This is jealousy limited. What is wrong with a governor creating time out of his busy schedule to cool off after working hard to deliver democracy dividends to his people.

”Is it not said: “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy?” Let me ask: Which one is better: taking a photo with your pet dog or sleeping with people’s wives – which is the pastime of some of our loud-mouthed and green-eyed politicians?

”What about those that do terrible things kept out of the public glare. But Willie Obiano is real and altruistic.”

CultureMeet Your Illah Igala People In Delta State by MyopicMods(op): 10:23pm On Jan 16, 2021
MEET YOUR ILLAH IGALA PEOPLE

Illah is a town in Delta state. It is made up of Igala and other tribes. The Igala part is called Azanoma.
Azanoma was founded by Prince Asaga and Prince Onaje, both are children of Attah Ayegba Oma Idoko.
Around 15th century, Prince Asaga was sent by his father, Attah Ayegba, to follow the newly crowned Obi Igbo from Idah to Illah to teach Obi's people some music, dances and how to beat ogidi gbo (wooden gong). Due to the hospitality nature of the Illah people he met, he settled down and refused to go back to Idah as his father instructed him to. Staying too long, Attah Ayegba became unsettled and then sent his younger brother, Onaje to go and look for him, and bring him back home. On reaching there, Onaje saw his brother doing very well and very happy with the friendly nature of the people. Onaje was well received by them, and seeing their hospitality too, he didn't go back to but stayed with his elder brother. They both married and formed the Azanoma (Illah Igala) although others said it was formed by/with by Otakpe, another son of Attah Ayegba (which is not my point here to say who is right or not but to identify and reconnect them to Igala in the ancestral home, Idah).
Today, the king of Azanoma is Eze Nmo (Chief Michael Eddoh) and assisted by Agaba Idu (second in command). The present Agaba Idu is of Asaga lineage. His name is Chief Chikweh Maduka. All the cultural activities of Igala are till today carried out by Illah Igala. Although, most of them can no longer speak Igala due to just two person in the midst of many strange people and long stay in foreign land, Igala language is used in most cultural festivals. Thanks to Sir Paul Onelum and sir Emmanuel Ofili, both of Illah Igala for their efforts. And do you know what, Pa Paul Onelum has Igala native uniform, and to let you know also, some Illah Igala adults are currently receiving Igala language lessons to allow them teach their family members. Let this Igala lesson be emulated by other indigenous Igala across the world. Igala blood remains the same, help me welcome Illah Igala home again. Me wola odudu chaka.
I'm Ayegba, and our reunion is my priority, pls join me. Share to inform other Igalas we are there too.

Politics46 Armed Fulani Arrested In Oyo Are Vigilantes Securing Communities:Miyeti Allah by MyopicMods(op): 6:21pm On Jan 11, 2021
The Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association in Oyo State, Alhaji Ibrahim Jiji, on Monday said though it is true that his team planned to raid some forests with the men of Amotekun Corps, they carried out the raid without vigilantes in his association.

He appealed to the Oyo State government to release 46 Fulani in police custody, saying they are members of Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) securing people in Ibarapa land.

Jiji, who stated this at a press conference in Ibadan on Monday, said the arrested vigilantes were among the people invited to rescue some kidnap victims in the area.

SaharaReporters had reported the controversy surrounding the alleged killing of a 70-year-old man and his two sons in the Ibarapa area of the state on Saturday.

Explaining how they were arrested, Jiji said; "They invited us to a meeting in Ibadan where they told us that they needed our support to fight insecurity in Ibarapa area. We told them we were going to give them 50 among our vigilantes who are Fulani.

"They have been doing the vigilante job for a very long time, therefore they know how to arrest criminals. When the Amotekun operatives were about to leave for the operation, we were still in Eruwa with some of our men who were vigilantes when we heard they had attacked the village.

That was when those of us who are leaders went to the village. When we got there, we saw that three people had already been killed. When I saw the incident, I approached the commandant of Amotekun to know his view on the incident.

"I asked why they didn't wait for us but he didn't answer me. We called our men who were waiting for us in Eruwa to leave the venue of our meeting and return to their homes because Amotekun had done something else. Our plan was not to kill anybody.

In the evening of the same day (Saturday), one of the vigilantes called to tell that two people were kidnapped in Igangan area of the state; we called the vigilantes and told them that they should go and search for the criminals that kidnapped those children but that they must inform police before going. While going there, they were arrested in Igangan.

"They called to tell us that some soldiers had arrested them. They told us that the commander of the troop had left for palace of Seriki Igangan. Returning from the palace, the commandant just arrested them and took them to police station. Those who were going to fight criminals are the set of the people they are parading as criminals. Those people are not criminals; they are the people securing us. They are registered vigilantes and they are working with the police and other security agencies.

"The 46 vigilantes that were arrested have been useful for the state for many years. All the 46 vigilantes are not criminals; they are the people arresting criminals. Even those criminals arrested by our men are with police as we speak.
Thief is thief and not Fulani. Tribe is different from criminals. We are ready to work with Oyo State government to stop criminality in the state
.

"I am appealing to state government to leave these people (alone). They are not thieves. They are the people who are securing us because we may need them another time. Why we want them to include our members in Amotekun is because of language barrier. We appeal to Oyo State government to include people from other tribes in Amotekun for the job to be efficient.

"I am not happy about the killing of the old man by Amotekun killed. He was over 70 years old when they killed him with his two children. I am not happy about what happened at all. He was an Alfa and had been there for over 45 years before he was killed."

A 27-year-old businessman, Emmanuel Chukwuma Igwe, has been accused of brutalizing his baby mama, Porcia Achonu, and cutting her with a cutlass, in Owerri, Imo State.

According to the mother of two, the incident occurred on Saturday, January 2, at about 1am, shortly after they had returned from a trip to the village.

“My baby daddy’s younger sister served him food and I asked her about mine. She eyed me and hissed. So I stood up from where I was and went to her room to collect a piece of chicken, she grabbed the chicken from me and asked me if I was mad.

So we started fighting and my baby daddy came in and descended on me. He beat me up so badly that his father came out and was holding me. They locked me inside the house and said I wouldn’t go anywhere. Even when my brother came, they refused to let him in.

Later, my baby daddy asked his father to open the gate so he can leave, but instead, he went to his car and brought out a cutlass which he used to chopped me repeatedly in the presence of his father. At a point, I pretended as if I was dead so he could leave me alone. He fell for it and that was when he drove off with his car.

He’s currently on the run, but his father has been arrested,” she said

Politics2023 Presidency: No Zoning Arrangement In Apc’s Constitution-ibrahim Shekarau by MyopicMods(op): 8:13pm On Jan 03, 2021
Ibrahim Shekarau has stated that it is a matter of "common sense" to give power to the south after the north's 8 years in power

- The former minister and Kano governor also dismissed the argument that the there is zoning arrangement for the presidency in APC

- Shekarau said it is about "balance, justice and fairness" that the power be rotated among the regions in the country.

The conversation on the 2023 presidency has taken another dimension as Malam Ibrahim Shekarau said that there is no arrangement for the zoning of the presidency in the constitution of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The former two-term Kano state governor and former minister made this known on Sunday, January 3, while answering questions from journalists.

The senator representing Kano Central, however, noted that it is by the virtue of common sense and fairness that the power should leave the north to the southern region of the country, Daily Trust reports.

Shekarau, who said there are "hundreds of qualified presidential candidates", further maintained that the principle of balancing should be employed in the zoning of the presidential ticket come 2023.

“I don’t talk of zoning but balancing. My belief is that today in Nigeria, there is no one state that does not have hundreds of qualified presidential candidate.
"So it should not be about killing oneself for which area produces the president. It should be ‘who is it’ and not ‘where he is from.”
The former governor also noted that "there is the constitution of common sense, people have to use it"

PoliticsMURIC Tells FG: Establish Sharia Court In States With Large Muslim Population by MyopicMods(op): 8:42pm On Jan 02, 2021
MURIC has alleged that Muslims are being marginalised

- The group is demanding some rights for Muslims across the country

- MURIC suggested that the granting of those rights would encourage peace.

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has asked the federal government to establish Shariah courts in all states where there is a significant number of Muslims in the country.

The group made the request in a statement by its director, Professor Ishaq Akintola, on Saturday, January, 2, when making some demands from the government.

Akintola called for beards and hijab to be allowed in uniformed organisations like the army, police, and NYSC.

The MURIC director said the government should accept:

"Caps, turban, hijab and beards for identity cards, driving licences and international travelling passports."
He stated that all the grievances of Muslims in the country be addressed by the federal government.

He stated that it is important for the government to uphold Islamic fundamental human rights in the country to check extrimism.

He said.

“It is our contention that no true deradicalisation of extremist religious groups can take place without addressing the grievances of Nigerian Muslims.

Uzodimma said the party would become stronger in the zone if APC produced the next governor in Anambra State, urging stakeholders to shelve their differences to uplift the party.

Uzodimma, while highlighting some of the grievances and issues inhibiting the growth of the party in the zone, stressed the need for the immediate commencement of a reconciliation process to strengthen the party.

He said: “The problem confronting APC in the Southeast is grievances and we must begin today to address it, this will help our party, we need to reconcile all aggrieved members, our party would be stronger and we also, urge all of you to help secure a victory in Anambra.”

On his part, Onu told the people of the region that APC needed strong presence in the zone, calling for the realisation of the aspiration by winning next year’s governorship election in Anambra State.

He said: “People of the southeast want APC. This is the reason why we must be united and be at peace with one another, we must be united to achieve our aims, we will make sure southeast controls Anambra.”

Nnamani informed the gathering that the APC membership revalidation/registration would soon commence at the unit level where members cast their votes, urging good mobilisation.

The former Senate President said the move would facilitate the desired outcome in the party, appealing to the people in the zone to register.

On his part, the Governor of Ebonyi State, Dave Umahi, who was represented by Senator Anthony Agbo, said the meeting was attended by progressive members in the zone committed to the growth of the party in the Southeast.

Umahi promised to work with Governor Uzodimma to make the party stronger in the zone by drawing other governors to join the APC.

The meeting was also attended by Dr George Moghalu, Minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajiuba, Senators Osita Izunaso, Nkechi Nwogu, Andy Ubah, a former Minister of Education, Mrs Chinwe Obaji, a former Deputy Governor of Imo State, Eze Madumere, and Tony Nwoye among others.

Car TalkFG To Commercialise NASENI Automobiles by MyopicMods(op): 7:40am On Dec 31, 2020
Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company has sealed a deal with the federal government to take-up all automobile Research and Development (R&grin’s) results at the National Agency for Science & Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) and convert them to automobile products for commercialisation.

The agreement was signed in Abuja yesterday by top officials of the company and the agency.

The Executive Vice Chairman of NASENI, Professor Mohammed Sani Haruna who signed the agreement on behalf of the federal government said the dream of President Muhammadu Buhari to see that NASENI’S designs and technologies are transferable to the private sector has become a reality.

Haruna said: “The partnership between Innoson Motors and NASENI started in 2013 when NASENI produced and launched its first “Made in Nigeria Motorcycle (NASENI M1), but I am happier today that the deal to work together has been sealed”.

The NASENI chief executive officer said it was encouraging and patriotic for the Innoson Motors to believe in Nigeria and Nigerian engineers and their ingenuity.

He said “NASENI’s research outputs are numerous, but most Nigeria entrepreneurs are not interested in working with us, they prefer to bring in finished products from overseas thereby indirectly hampering the endogenous economic development of the country, Nigeria”

The CEO of Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Ltd, Chief Innocent Chukwuma said NASENI had been doing a lot of things in the areas of Research and Development, but “Today we have commenced a partnership that will live forever.

“Both NASENI and Innoson Motors are passionate about lifting Nigeria out of economic woods, and with God on our side, we shall succeed together”.

He said with this collaboration, he believed that in no time, Nigeria will have a success story to tell in the production of automobile spares parts locally even to the extent of exports.

Mrs Oyekunke and family who watched mattress on xmas gets 50k cash Gift

Family that washed old mattress on Christmas Day get brand new mattress and cash courtesy of a generous Legit reader.
Let us continue to share love.

A good Samaritan has helped an 80-year-old woman and her grandchildren in Osun state

- Legit.ng had posted pictures of the family while washing their old mattress on Christmas Day

- A Legit.ng's reader later came to the rescue of the family and gave them cash of N50,000.

Barely four days after pictures of an elderly woman, Rafatu Oyekunle and her orphaned grandchildren went viral on Legit.ng, the octogenarian has got an unexpected New Year gift from a generous Nigerian.

The pictures which were taken by Legit.ng's regional reporter in Osun state, Gboyega Bakare, showed a hilarious mood of the family while washing their old mattress in preparation for the New Year.

Speaking with the aged woman during the presentation of the new mattress and the cash, Legit.ng found out that her plight of having to live in such a deplorable condition was as a result of the unfortunate death of her grown-up children that should have given her a good life in her old age.

The woman could not hide her joy to receive the unexpected gift of a brand new mattress and a cash gift of N10,000.

The octogenarian, who spoke in Yoruba said she was delighted for the kind gesture, adding that she had wanted to have a big mattress but could not afford it.

She said:

I'm very happy to have a new mattress. I have always wanted a big new mattress like this, but how could I have been able to afford one when even feeding is very difficult.

"The young people you see around me are some of my grandchildren whose parents are all dead. It has been a great burden, so much that nothing else is important but feeding. As you can see, even my house is in a terrible state of disrepair and almost inhabitable.''

While appreciating her helper, Miss Chineye of nenyelitious.tv who sent her a sum of N50,000, out of which the mattress was procured for N40,000 and a balance of N10,000 given to her, Mrs. Oyekunke prayed for God's flourishing blessing upon her helper.

She added:

''May God almighty prosper her work and bless her with glorious children that will give her a life full of joy and happiness. I'm very grateful to God almighty and to all of you who brought my plight to her notice."

Mrs. Oyekunle further used the opportunity to call on other well-meaning Nigerians to come to the aid of the less privileged people in the country, so that life could be more meaningful and worth living for them too.

PoliticsAPC Denies Pressuring Governor Wike To Dump PDP by MyopicMods(op): 6:04pm On Dec 26, 2020
Governor Nyesom Wike’s recent claims about the APC has attracted the attention of the party
- The ruling party explains why it does not agree with the governor’s statements

- The secretary of the APC, Akpanudoedehe questions Wike’s motive for making the claims

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has challenged Governor Nyesom Wike to mention the names of those he alleged were pressuring him to join the ruling party.
The challenge was made by John Akpanudoedehe, the secretary of the APC’s caretaker/Extra-Ordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC), The Nation reported.
The party chieftain accused the Rivers state governor of making false claims to attract national attention.

He said the ruling party does not pressure or coerce anyone to join its ranks.

Akpanudoedehe said:
“Please ask him (Wike) to name his suitors. Who is putting pressure on him. I am not surprised what he (Wike) is doing. I have seen people like him, who hated APC in the past but today they are in APC having seen the light and the good thing the party is doing in re-positioning the country and making it work again after years of PDP misrule.”
According to Vanguard , the party chieftain urged Wike to declare if he wants to join the APC instead of insulting the party.
He said:
“Tell Wike, he cannot attain national popularity by attacking or insulting the APC and its leaders. He should come out clean and declare if he wants to join the moving train of APC and not that he is been pressurised or wooed to join.

PoliticsWhy Is Wike Denying His Igbo Roots? - Dimm Uche Okwukwu by MyopicMods(op): 3:58am On Dec 05, 2020
The Ngwa are Igbos. The Ikwerre are Igbos. They are offsprings of the same father. So the statement attributed to His Excellency, Barrister Nyesom Wike, Governor of Rivers State was shocking. He said an illustrious Igbo son, and I believe he was referring to the Honorable Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi, was only claiming to be Igbo to further his ambition of becoming Nigerian president come 2023. Wike further disclaimed being Igbo himself.

Agreed, Wike has the right to hold any view so far as it is within the ambit of the law and not counter-productive. He can define himself in any manner he deems fit. But Amaechi, who holds the traditional chieftaincy title of ”Ochi Ariri Ikwerre,” meaning the Defender of Ikwerre in Times of Difficulty, also has the same right to see and define himself as Igbo. Wike does not enjoy the prerogative of determining himself and at the same time defining others.

Amaechi was former National President of the National Union of Rivers State Students, NURSS. He was former Speaker of Rivers House of Assembly, Chairman of the Conference of Speakers in Nigeria, two-term governor of Rivers, Chairman of the Governors Forum of Nigeria, GFN, and two-term Minister of Transportation. He is the first Nigerian to be appointed Minister of Transportation and first Ikwerre to be appointed full-fledged Grade A minister. As an Ikwerre, I am proud of Amaechi. As an Igbo, I am also proud of him.

Coming from the humanities, Amaechi is conscious of history and social anthropology. He said, “Look, I’m Ikwerre. But I’m also Igbo.” By so saying he did not in any way stop any Ikwerre from presenting himself as non-Igbo. Such an Ikwerre who denies his Igbo identity would have to explain himself to the gods.

Amaechi’s assertion of his Igboness on the BBC should not cause anyone a headache.

The Ikwerre Is Igbo

It is important to state for record purposes that historically Ikwerres fully identified themselves as Igbos without suffering harms. Chief Joseph Wobo, member of the Council of Chiefs of Eastern Nigeria, clearly stated he was an Igbo. Nobody can dismiss him as he defended Ikwerreland in colonial Nigeria.

Sir Jackson Mpi, first and last Ikwerre to be conferred with Knight of the Order of British Empire, OBE, by Queen Elizabeth II of England in 1960, identified himself as Igbo. From the ancient Kingdom of Isiokpo, Sir Mpi worked tirelessly for Igbo advancement.

Dr Obi Wali was the first Ikwerre PhD holder, senator and university lecturer. He was also the only Ikwerre in the 1978 Constituent Assembly where he was selected one of the 50 Wise Men that drafted the 1979 constitution. The great Dr Wali identified fully with his Igbo heritage and was gruesomely assassinated defending it.

Okogbule Wonodi, first Ikwerre registrar of any university, first and only Ikwerre poet and Paramount title Holder of Eze Ohiaemeru. Ohiaemeru, where you have present-day Comprehensive College in Borokiri, was his ancestral home before the British vacated them between 1913-1923. Wonodi remained a respected member of Nzukor Igbo and Ohanaeze Ndigbo till the end of his life.

Patriot Emmanuel Aguma was former Mayor of Port Harcourt. As Principal of St John College, Diobu, he was the first Ikwerre to head any college. One of six pre-independence Ikwerre University graduates, former administrator of Port Harcourt Province in the defunct Peoples Republic of Biafra, first Ikwere minister in 1979, Aguma remained a member of Ohanaeze Ndigbo.

Emmanuel Oriji was a respected local government administrator, traditional ruler, a commissioner in old Rivers and core Igbo nationalist. The immediate past Deputy Secretary-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Isaac Wonwu, is an illustrious Ikwerre son from Elele. He is known to assert his Igbo identity. Equally valid, Chief Jackson Womenazu from Rumukrushi in the Evo Kingdom is a member of the Elders’ Council of Ohanaeze Ndigbo.

In colonial documents, written when Igbos had no capacity to influence anything, Ikwerres also defined themselves as Igbos. When Ikwerre leaders presented their case before the 1957 Sir Henry Willinks Commission, Wobo declared that Ikwerres were Igbos and Port Harcourt to Onitsha was Igboland.

The cream of Ikwerreland have asserted their Igboness. Most illustrious sons and daughters. Tell me any Ikwerre whose CV can match those of Mpi, Wobo, Aguma, Wonodi, Dr Wali or Amaechi?

The Ikwerre: Space and Survival

We must resolve all outstanding issues occasioned by the military-inspired partition of Ikwerreland as war booty. Our irreducible stand includes:
One, Ikwerres are Igbos and Ikwerreland is so important to the Igbo that they will never take any step to destroy Ikwerres or toy with their destiny. In geo-strategic terms, Ikwerreland is the tongue of the Igbo race to the sea.

Two, we are aware there are plans to landlock the Igbo nation. These plans are rooted in history. My brother and personal friend, Wike, should not be a crusader for such plans because it will be resisted with the sword as no nation will allow itself to be landlocked. All legitimate, moral and spiritual means available to Ndigbo would be used to resist the excise of Ikwerreland from the larger Igboland.

Three, “Obigbo,” means “Heart of Igboland.” It is the right name for that Local Government Area, LGA. “Oyigbo” means nothing and was never and will never be the name of Obigbo. The British met local people on ground who said their world was called Obigbo. Any researcher can go there and verify for himself. None should be persecuted for calling Obigbo its original pre-civil war name. I, Uche Okwukwu, call it Obigbo and I have no apologies for that.

Four, “Ohiaemeru” is the original name for Borokiri. It was the British who removed the indigenous Ikwerre population there before declaring the place Crown Land between 1913-1923. Equally so, “Igweocha” or “Diobu” is the original name for Port Harcourt. We must set the record straight.

Five, demographically and historically, Igbos constitute the majority in the Niger Delta. Wike’s idea of the region is flawed considering that nine states make up the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, namely, Imo, Abia, Delta, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Edo, Ondo and Rivers. It is absurd and unacceptable stating that Umuagwo is not in the Niger Delta but Ogoja is. Be that as it may, there is now a statutory definition of the region manifest in the NDDC Act.
Any definition that excludes the Igbo from the Niger Delta, or tends to disenfranchise them from the privileges thereof, is unacceptable. This is because there were plans in the past that destroyed any benefit coming to the Igbo. Boundary adjustments were carried out to remove oil-producing areas from the former East Central State.

Six, in terms of ethnicity and language, Igbos are also in the majority in Rivers. It is fallacious that there are no Igbos here. Igbos are here because Ikwerres are Igbos. Ogbas are Igbos, Ekpeyes are Igbos. Etches are Igbos. Obigbos are Igbos. So no one can talk about Igbos coming in to cause trouble. Igbos are peaceful. Rivers is our home, and we are its autochthones.

Seven, Binis have no cultural or historical link with Ikwerres. We worship different gods, have different market days with different monarchical structures. Our Kingship is not from father to son like the Binis. Our kingship is based on gerontocracy where the oldest person assumes leadership. What brought us together was the 1914 amalgamation. No pre-colonial or colonial record has it that Ikwerres migrated from Benin. The post-war purported claim that Ikwerres are Binis is parasitic, defeatist and self-hate.

Eight, Ikwerreland is heavily garrisoned. Two million Ikwerres in four LGAs are tightly sandwiched by two naval barracks at Iwofe and Borokiri; two army barracks at Port Harcourt and Elele; air force base in Port Harcourt and an army shooting range in Igwuruta. Large swathes of land were appropriated for the building of the international airport, University of Port Harcourt and its teaching hospital, Rivers State University, Ignatius Ajuru University, Nigerian Television Authority, Area 1 Seaport, etc.

We believe in the unity of this country but the Federal Government should dismantle the military formations and return their locations to land-bereft inner-city Ikwerres. Our burgeoning population has no living space and this could lead to the Oromo experience.

Why is Wike denying his Igbo roots?

Wike is an illustrious Ikwerre son. And for emphasis, he is an Igbo man. A kettle might call itself an electric kettle, but it remains a kettle. Wike will do himself great service to forget the purported prejudice of the past and assert his Igboness. You don’t deny your own roots because they may not be there anymore when later you need them. All those who deny their people have always regretted it.

Was Wike not doing an overkill saying that an Igbo son desirous to be president was claiming to be Igbo? His utterance undermines our 2023 presidential project. My real pain concerning Wike’s outburst is why he chose these trying moments when some mischievous Nigerians lumped Ndigbo with IPOB. It is frightening and I would like to know who is writing the script for him.
There was no nexus between the ENDSARS protest and an innocent Igbo desirous to be president. Where is the link? Wike is not a member of the APC. It is not his business who becomes the party’s flag bearer in 2023. He should be more concerned with the presidential candidate of his own Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. Who drafted this spoiler-script for Wike?

In these trying moments when our own son, Nnamdi Kanu, has taken negative steps to bring us to public scorn, our brother, Wike, must not help our detractors consummate their agenda. Ndigbo have made it abundantly clear that IPOB does not represent their interests. It assaulted Ike Ekweremadu in Germany and Amaechi in Spain. It also insulted Orji Uzoh Kalu, Rochas Okorocha, Nnia Nwodo, Ralph Uwazurike, Uche Okwukwu, etc. Naturally, one would call on Wike to retract his statement.
I’m sure Wike wanted to exonerate himself from the IPOB excesses by saying he wasn’t Igbo. But none has said that IPOB was Igbo, not even the Federal Government. They know that Kanu’s followers are not limited to Igbos alone. There are elements from other ethnic groups. But anytime Kanu erred, instead of dealing with him alone, they deal with every Igbo.

The Federal Government must be careful dealing with IPOB bearing in mind the way the war ended and how those who were defeated perceive Nigeria. Agitation for Biafra can be doused by giving the Igbo a bite of the cherry. For instance, forty years after the creation of Rivers the Ikwerre were excluded from ruling the state. Things got so heated up till Ikwerres came to power.
Likewise, separatists can be contained by giving the Igbo the chance to rule Nigeria. Such brinkmanship can avert an implosion in the former Eastern Region likely to consume everyone, including those who don’t believe in IPOB. Wike himself may not be safe from such a catastrophe.

Amaechi and Okonjo-Iweala
Amaechi is one of our best to run for the office of the president of Nigeria. A pan-Nigerian with large heart and strong character, he will privilege an all-inclusive government.
But if Nigerians desire a female president the most qualified is Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala. As former Minister of Finance and Managing Director of the World Bank, she’ll create the enabling environment for self-employment.

We also have other qualified Igbos. As former local government chairman, Chief of Staff to Rivers State Government and minister, Wike has the credentials to vie for the office of Nigerian president as an Igbo. I urge him to present himself as you can never be defeated in a war you didn’t fight. Let him be courageous to step forward.

Okorocha is qualified to lead Nigeria. With his Rochas Foundation, he is training over 55,000 African children.
The cerebral Senator Chris Ngige, wonderful man who turned around a failed Anambra State as governor, can run for the Nigerian presidency. A charismatic politician with a vast appetite for discipline, he laid an enviable foundation in governance unmatched. The roads he built between 2003 and 2006 are still intact as if they were tarred yesterday. As a senator in the opposition, he contributed in consolidating Nigerian democracy.

Ogbonnaya Onu is the father of opposition politics in Nigeria. From 1999-2015 he was in the opposition showing principle. Amiable and calm, Onu has a Doctorate in Chemical Engineering and established the Department of Chemical Engineering in the University of Port Harcourt. He is eminently qualified to lead Nigeria.

To the ruling APC, we shall present these greats for the party to make its choice
Equity means Igbos must be accorded the right to first choice and first refusal to produce the next president. The journey is long and road tough. But we are confident of light at the end of the tunnel. From a people who call God “Chukwu,” heaven “Eligwe,” earth “Ali,” Lucifer “Ekwensu,” water “Mini” and salt “Nnu,” Nigerian president will emerge in 2023.

We are not bothered whether the Nigerian president of Igbo extraction will come from the Igbanke in Edo; Asa/Azumili in Akwa Ibom, Anioma/Osimili in Delta, or Ogba/Obigbo in Rivers. Our goal is producing Nigerian president so that pains arising from decades of exclusion can be addressed; even though he may not do much for Ndigbo.

This visit is coming 48 hours after the state governor noted that one of the recommendations his state had put forward to the Federal Government was to consider hiring mercenaries to dislodge the Boko Haram terrorists from the region since the Nigerian military appeared to be overwhelmed.

Armed Forces on Thursday visited the Borno State Government House, Maiduguri, and met with the state governor, Prof Babagana Zulum, over Saturday's gruesome massacre of at least 70 rice farmers in Zabarmari community.

This visit is coming 48 hours after the state governor noted that one of the recommendations his state had put forward to the Federal Government was to consider hiring mercenaries to dislodge the Boko Haram terrorists from the region since the Nigerian military appeared to be overwhelmed.

Another recommendation that Zulum gave was for the regional forces, Cameroon, Chad and the Niger Republic to collaborate on waging war against the Boko Haram terrorists.

At the meeting, the governor urged the Cameroonian delegation on the need for Nigeria and Cameroon to team up to defeat the Boko Haram terrorists.

Nigerian Man Convicted Of Murder After Stabbing Hotel Worker Six Times In UK Over Second-hand Gucci Bag
Odupitan, 24, knifed Tyler Roye six times as he was making his way home after work in south London in February.
BY SAHARAREPORTERS, NEW YORK DEC 02, 2020

A Nigerian man, Samuel Odupitan, who stabbed a hotel concierge worker to death so he could steal his Gucci bag, has been convicted of murder.

Odupitan, 24, knifed Tyler Roye six times as he was making his way home after work in south London in February.

Prosecutors said Odupitan had come across his 24-year-old victim on the tram and then "murdered him in cold blood for the sake of a designer bag".

The defendant, from Croydon, was found guilty of murder following a trial at Croydon Crown Court, BBC reports.

He had also previously pleaded guilty to four counts of robbery over the attack which took place shortly after midnight on February 26.

Roye, who worked at Holiday Inn in Stratford, left the tram in Woodside and had just picked up a call from his girlfriend when he was confronted by Odupitan who demanded his possessions, the court heard.

After a struggle, the 24-year-old defendant fled with the second-hand Bengal tiger print bag while Roye managed to make it to a friend's house before collapsing inside.

He was taken to hospital but died just before 03:00 GMT.

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said Odupitan had first been spotted on CCTV, while analysis of his phone found numerous images of knives as well as a video of him driving around in a car armed with a blade.

Senior crown prosecutor Devi Kharran said it had been an "opportunistic and unprovoked attack on a hardworking young man who was on his way home from work".

He said Odupitan had "pursued" his victim from the moment he spotted him on the tram and Roye "had lost his life simply because he had the fatal misfortune of encountering a violent robber on his way home".

Odupitan will be sentenced on 7 December.

PoliticsABC Nwosu: Peter Obi's Frugality Is Legendary, Some Say He Is Annoyingly Stingy by MyopicMods(op): 10:32pm On Dec 01, 2020
PDP should not field ‘tolo tolo’ for Anambra 2021 Governorship election

Professor A.B.C Nwosu, First Class Commonwealth Scholar and academic, joined the political arena with his appointment in 1986 as Commissioner for Health in old Anambra State. He served four military administrations in that capacity including the new Anambra State. At the return to democracy in 1999, President Olusegun Obasanjo appointed him first as his Political Adviser and later as Minister of Health. Professor Nwosu spoke to Global UpFront Newspapers (GUN). Excerpts:

As a major stakeholder in Anambra State, is the State where it is supposed to be today and what is the way forward?

I am very emotionally attached to Anambra State because I was one of the pioneer Commissioners in old Anambra State. When the new Anambra State was created, those of us from the new State had to come back to become the pioneers. There was no point appointing new people since we had about three or four months left to serve and the Governor then, Commodore Joe Abulu, chose to be kind to me and I was his very good special friend.

I know that we came down immediately to start building a dream State and I know I played a role in persuading transporters from my hometown Nnewi, Ekene Dili Chukwu, Eekeson, Izuchukwu, and other transporters from Anambra State like Young Shall Grow so that they would help in lifting civil servants who were living in Enugu and now had to work in Awka at special rates and taking them back.

They did it for free for two weeks and started charging ten per cent of the actual cost.

You could see the spirit of our people because there was nothing. We were the new State. Enugu State is not new as it inherited the old Anambra State infrastructure in the capital. I had to make my office as Commission of Health, new Anambra State at Amaku General Hospital which was built by the Awka community. And we had to start building a place for the House of Assembly who would be at the Enugu-Ukwu town hall. And we relocated to the Lodigiani Nigeria Limited road camp where incidentally the Government House still stays till today. Lodigiani built the road from Awka to Onitsha.

In the spirit, we were offered Zik’s Government House in Enugu to live as the Governor’s befitting house so he would go down to Awka every day and come back. He asked what I thought and I said we cannot govern a people from outside the State. We started looking for a place and I remembered a Sunday, we woke up Honourable Justice Uyanna of blessed memory. That was how the home of the administrative Judge for Awka, who later became Chief Justice Uyanna became the Government House and it is still the Government House till date.

We allowed him (Justice Uyanna) to move away with all his furniture. The Governor said he could not deprive him of his house and furniture. Where to sleep became a problem. We had to buy mattresses. Commodore Joe Abulu and some of us he chose to stay with him, slept on the floor in those mattresses in order to govern Anambra.

We immediately decided to capitalise on the spirit of the people to launch Anambra State Development Fund in the spirit of Governor Emeka Omeruah for old Anambra State, which I had also the privilege of serving continuously. We also launched the Anambra State Education and Technology (ANSET) fund. Professor Chinua Achebe gave that acronym, to bring the people in a composite spirit and we launched the Anambra State Development Fund.

You can see the spirit with which the new Anambra State was accepted and moved with wisdom. The State Hospital Management Board was at Enugu-Ukwu General Hospital. The people didn’t mind. There was no Psychiatric hospital.

The spirit was high. We were expecting to build a Centre for Adaptation for Technology at Awka. We had ordered the foundries, both metallic and non-metallic foundries. But I believe that subsequent governments handed it over to the federal government and nobody has heard anything again about it.

We were thinking of building our own Silicon Valley. We had very lofty dreams. So, I feel very sentimental about Anambra State and am happy it has now been renamed from Home for All to Light of the Nation.

With this sentiment, are you fulfilled with the level of governance in the State?

Anambra has had a checkered history in terms of governance. In 1999, the Appeal Panel of PDP (Peoples Democratic Party), before the elections, changed my name and it was handed over to Governor Chinwoke Mbadinuju. I didn’t mind. It was an Appeal Panel. My views were not heard in taking this decision. It was on a petition and because Dr Alex Ekwueme came from my State, I didn’t think I had to make a mountain out of it because Dr Ekwueme was still contesting for President. From there, Chinwoke Mbadinuju became the only Governor of the PDP that was not allowed a second tenure as children didn’t go to school and people who had to take School Certificate exams did so from other States. That did not go down well with the dreams of Silicone Valley and excellence in education.

When we came to Dr Chris Ngige, Chris Ubah will tell you that I refused to be recalled back even in the election. How can I ask to be the Governor? I could not be running against Ngige except I am one of those who says this and turns back and say another thing.

Peter Obi was alright in everything and was ready to work. So, why should I, an older man, enter a masquerade when a younger man who can dance better, except it is to discredit him.

PDP brought Ngige and Ngige sprang a surprise in infrastructure. With all the problems he had, he was not bad. He came a long way. But the person who pushed the dream to where we were going was Peter Obi. He came and did the one thing that we would have done before, handing over schools to the Missions with money to run them. And Anambra State, within a space of one or two years, came from the bottom to the top. For me that is how governance should be measured.

It was terrific. It was the dream of the founders of Anambra. Peter Obi started this but where Peter Obi excelled also was in prudent management of the lean resources. But Peter Obi, being a businessman, made sure the resources were there and made sure that he didn’t borrow. He also saved a lot of money especially foreign exchange and got us to invest in new things like the brewery at Onitsha.

Where I would have differed is that I am not a realist, much like Peter Obi. I am more of a dreamer. I would have bought the Machine tools and Centre on Adaptation of Technology, coupling engineering which our people excel in. You will get a machine to use their work, you pieces it and reproduce it. That’s why Innosson, who didn’t go through secondary education, can produce cars of the highest quality.

If Anambra people make tiles or marbles for you, you can’t get it better. Before Peter Obi left, I had convinced him to make me chairman of Anambra Education Board. He agreed. We would have got 210 persons who have Masters degrees and above from the different Local Government Areas and we will send them to some of the best institutions in China, Japan, Germany, United States and Britain. If you fail you will come back, we will do a repeat so that we can be leaders of tomorrow’s technology and creativity.

We still need a dreamer who would look at that dream and not go away from that dream because of the cost. If you have to give your people the skills they require that are not available locally, you have to pay foreign exchange to India to learn software engineering, or to America to learn cutting edge technology; Britain for anthropology from Cambridge, etc. That 210, by now, they would have been out. It is also part of the dream that anybody who must teach in the university in Anambra State must not only have a doctorate degree from a reputable university, but should also have something they have accomplished.

Yes, I am a dreamer. I accomplished guinea worm eradication. My PhD is from University of London. I attended Imperial College Science and Technology from University of London. But that’s not my major achievement. It was my prayers to God when I came back to Nigeria that the people sentenced every year for punishment and imprisonment of guinea worm disease become a thing of the past. Not that it was globally, but Nigeria became guinea worm free and I don’t think anyone in good conscience can mention guinea worm eradication without my name.

So, back to Anambra State, I am very pleased at the infrastructure revolution that Chris Ngige began. I am especially proud of Peter Obi for this humility in high places, frugal management and building up of resources especially opening up of education to the highest level and for laying the foundations for industrial development and investment of Anambra’s resources.

Peter Obi’s frugality and ability to manage resource is legendary. Some say he is annoyingly stingy. I would not have matched him in frugality but I would have beaten him in dreaming and actualising the dreams. We need someone who will close his eyes and imagine a smart city that we can build this, have a Silicon Valley. Our people can never match others in farming, but give them computers and software, they will develop softwares and crafts that will become worldwide. We can’t do all these machine tools without all these things, these plastics that we throw away. You recycle them and all you need is appropriate modes.

My town Nnewi, at some point, were producing most of the items used by Peugeot Automobiles in Kaduna. It pains me that factories like Ibeto Industries are not working now and Ibeto, who was famous for his batteries that were outlasting those that we were importing. He is now selling cement. Awka is known for blacksmiths and there’s a saying that the Buckingham Palace gate had some Awka smiths involved. One of the most important statue of the Queen of England is by late Ben Enweonwu from Onitsha.

In the past seven years, we have a Governor but you hardly mentioned what he has done.

I don’t know the present Governor. I don’t feel him. How can I comment on what I don’t know, don’t feel, don’t see. It would be unfair for me to give comments on him. Of course, Peter Obi introduced him to me when he was trying for him to be Governor. But he had been Governor for seven years. Fashola was Governor. I didn’t see him in person but I knew him. I could pass by the Lekki bridge.

I was in class four when Nigeria gained independence in 1960. Am not a young man. Why should I not praise a young person if that person has done well? Do I belong to same political party? If we have elections tomorrow, I will not be found anywhere near Chris Ngige. But you are asking me about what he did and he did well. If I give him good, I will give Peter Obi excellent.
