It is sad that the insults are going back and forth.

THe poster asked about his wife, and why she was denied citizenship.

I will speak from first hand experience, BECAUSE YOU ARE MARRIED TO A NIGERIAN DOESNT ENTITLE YOU CITIZENSHIP. Nigeria to you might not be the greatest nation, but it is a sovereign nation, and it has laws -whether they are always applied or not.
Visiting Nigeria is not enough to get her citizenship.
The procedure is she goes in on a visitors visa initially, and somehow leaves the country and comes back in often enough to show that she has genuine and vested interests in the country. Single visitors visa usually moves into Multiple Indefinite which they give for a number of years.
It took my mother 20 something years to get "RESIDENCY" in Nigeria. Residency means u can stay for as long as u want obviously. I heard it is really hard to get a Green passport, she has stopped trying. At least with Residency, she can stay for life.

Nigerian Passport is not an entitlement, it is a priviledge, irrespective of how messed up or not you think Nigeria is.

If you want to get a fake passport for your British wife, good luck. I am Half Nigerian ( born outside of Nigeria), and i get questioned to death at muritala every time i present my Nigerian passport. I have full blown Nigerian names, but they want to know how i have a nigerian passport. Talkless of a white woman carryin one. If you want her to go to jail, please get her one illegally. I am sure kirikiri is tons of fun for a British person.
u all are missing the point, when u apply for a nigerian passport, there are conditions for what will be considered as a reason to give u your passport, u will have to verify your citizenship and they stated who can be called a nigerian citizen. one of such is someone that is married to a nigerian and choose to apply for such. it is in our own law, our leaders wrote that law, it is not something that just appeared now. i am nigerian back and front, yet i was questioned to death myself because i couldnt speak a single nigerian language, the fact i could understand some languages didnt impress them, even my wafi pidgin english was no go, yes i finally got my passport but does that make what they do right? u offer people services if they meet the requirements not try to get something out from them illegally. we are talking about this citizenship issue like it is an isolated case, everything in nigeria you're suppose to be entitled to, u have to deal with idiots that suddenly think they are gods and wont give it to u unless u bribe them, the crux of this matter is uncontrolled power and corruption, i pity all my bi-racial cousins, no wonder they are not in a hurry to visit because of the hell u have to go through. u go to the american embassy, the hell u get is mainly from the nigerians that work there, the security guards start acting like gods and the idiots inside treat fellow nigerians like crap. please, nobody should come here saying stuff about a sovereign nation because most nigerians, especially our leaders will sell the country for 2 kobo instantly if offered. once again, i say, the crux of this matter is unguided zeal for power and corruption. angry angry angry

SOmetimes it is hard to understand the purpose of certain instituitions. Is Convenant grooming adults or spitting out 22 year old kids back into society with Diplomas in hand.
It is a wonder some of the best Higher education instituitions are located in certain places.

@Ibime

I will use question to answer your question grin

Until 2 years ago, Does British fathers automatically confer citizenship to their Child born to a non European?
its funny are u reason, until 2 yrs ago, did they have it in their law? we do have it in our law. when u apply for ur passport, read the conditions for being a nigerian citizen and u will find out that a single nigerian parent automatically qualify u to be one.

it is about the law up held by a people's constitution. so ur argument is weak.
EducationRe: Expulsion Scandal Rocks Covenant University: 120 Students Expelled by na2day2(m): 5:27pm On Jul 05, 2008
the fact that some of u run out here to give support to this illegal action makes me really wonder what is the true meaning of education. are u supporting this action because u went to the same school or u belong to Living Faith church? there is a reason why God gave u a brain, use it to reason properly before u come here giving blind support. if the actions where right, where does that place Christ? if u want to truly justify the actions, let them expel every church member that dont come to church with their bibles(including the ones that give fat check for offerings) and expel every one that didnt hold their morning devotion, na yam! angry angry angry angry angry

Ibime:
Lemme ask you guys a question . . . . . if your father is Nigerian but your mother is not . . . and you were born abroad . . . . . do you automatically qualify for Green passport?
according to the Nigerian law yes, u automatically qualify for a green card, that is one of the requirement to have at least one parent or grandparent to be nigerian. second requirement if for u to wish to be one and pursue the application.

edmondo:
i don't care what anybody say about Nigeria,am proud to be a Nigerian anyday, anytime.
i would blame you guy that say a sort of rubbish about Nigeria because una dey obodo oyibo dey wash toilet, plate dey so all sort of odd jobs but we wey una dey abuse 4 naija dey come obodo oyibo come spent our money without doing any odd jobs.
abeg LONG LIVE NIGERIA,i go everly dey carry d GREEN WHITE GREEN FLAG FLYING.
You guy can say whatever you like to say,na una get una plastic mouth.
ignorant ppl like u is the very reason nigeria is looked down upon outside the country. if sum1 is washing plates and toilets and is actually contributing to a society positively, is that person not better than u who dont deserve the money u get or steal and yet wont spend it in nigeria or use it constructively to improve her lot but will take that money and go spend it another country. go check Nigeria's economy stats and u will find out that the ppl that wash plates and toilets overseas are a big part of sustaining nigeria and other africa economies with the amount they always send back home, in nigeria case it racks in billions of dollars per annum. so before u open ur smelling mouth with ur rotten breath to mis yan, use ur koko brain to do a little reasoning. angry angry
PoliticsRe: No Nigerian Citizenship For British By Marriage by na2day2(m): 4:06am On Jul 05, 2008
@ Big B1

try not to show ur ignorance. do u know what nigerian law declares for qualification of one's right to its citizenship? obviously u dont have a nigerian passport otherwise u will have read it in ur application form and then u will understand we just broke our own law. if a woman/man is legally married to a nigerian, that person is automatically entitled to apply for a nigerian citizenship status if so desired. if a child is born outside the country and as at least one parent or grand parent who is nigerian, that child also can claim citizenship. go read am b4 u come here dey for yama yama patriotism. if other countries act the same way to us, we go carry fire for head dey run about with accusation. angry angry angry angry angry

I have never in my life heard that a man can have an effect on a woman by the way he dresses or doesn't dress. Women normally would say that the naked male body is unattractive with all the hair and bulging parts. but I case it is reliving to know that some women are affected by the male body.

Outstrip:
Gamine part of the problem is that the Ineme people are sort of seen as the Osu of that area. I know that etsakos traditionally will not marry an Ineme. Though it is changing now with our generation. That might be part of the reason why the numbers are falling.

Now back to topic.

I am frankly not interested in the state of Yar-arse-dua's kidneys or lack thereof!

I really wanted to see what evidences existed of this so-called maltreatment of "royal" Nigerians by the "racist" foreign airlines!

I do not see any. . . . . so I will have to say

GOODBYE THREAD!!!!

I do not like to deal with unsubstantiated stories from rumour-mongering, low lives of Nigerians! When I see some evidence. . .perhaps I shall return. Threads with 5 pages or more absolutely bores me to death for lack of pleasant company. Time to enjoy some music on Youtube! cool

what is ur own, eh? Yaradua did the right thing. u r in the usa and the usa has terrible evils i can hardly imagine. go to downtown of most part of the usa and u wont believe ur eyes, abi is it those flying death airplanes that southwest and american airlines use that an industrial nation should boast of? look at the messed up election and listen to why ppl vote and tell me if they are civilized. infact, i am more patriotic than most americans. they should get off their lazy butts and stop playing ps3 and xbox all day and actually do something for the good of the nation not their individual greed. foreigners hold their economy together, it would have collapsed long ago. they sit down all day thinking only for their own greed and wonder why the economy has gone so bad. at least we have Yaradua fighting for the dignity of the nigerian ppl, unlike Bush who is fighting 4 his own oil gain and doesn't know that gas is almost $4 per gallon. abeg make i hear word. angry angry angry angry angry angry

omoovie:
Part of the problem is the rape of Benin that occurred in the early 20th century. All those artifacts are entrenched in the British museum and I don't think we will be seeing any of them soon except through a detached glass box. Why do white people like to box things in? The second problem is our previous generation and ours. Our parents by virtue of being the more western educated generation as well as being survivors of war taught their children what they think they need to survive - no parent these days actively seeks to teach their children their language because they feel it's not a necessity to survive and that means so many languages, cultures and ideals are dying. I'm afraid for Urhobos and we are over 1/2 a million. I don't speak Urhobo, Igbo or Edo. I took it upon myself to learn a Nigerian language but the only one available to me over here is Hausa so I'm learning Hausa.

My advice:

Record WHATEVER you can about your culture whether online or on paper (Urhobos have www.waado.org). If you need help with the web part, I can give you some pointers. Record! record! record! Record historically significant dates, places, times, creation myths, songs, celebrations, pictures of Uneme people performing various rites, et cetera. Who knows, you might be the saviour of the Uneme. You can start off where that book earlier in the post left off (i.e. start recording Uneme history from 1962)

Good luck oh. I feel your pain. I'm going back home to study my mum's people and drink it all in. I'm tired of more oyinbo people teaching me MY culture.
