CrimeLady Dumped By Roadside In Osun (Photo) by NaijaCover(op): 12:36pm On Oct 02, 2024
A Yet-To-Be-Identified Lady was found abandoned by the roadside at Olaiya, Osogbo, Osun State, on Tuesday, suspected to be a victim of ritual sacrifice by individuals believed to be Yahoo boys.

The lady, whose behavior appeared abnormal, sparked suspicion that she may have been used for rituals by her captors.

Unable to speak or recognize people or objects, she was discovered lying helplessly on Asikolaye Street, where she was dumped.

Local Shop Owners have officially reported the case to the police at Dugbe Police Station, Old Garage, through their lawyer, Barrister K.A. Adebisi.

In their letter, the business owners and residents, represented by Mr. Sikiru Sanni (also known as Samrad Property Agency) and Mrs. Bamigbola (Mama Dada), urged the police to take immediate action.

The letter reads, “We act on behalf of the Business owners and residents ably represented by Mr. Sikiru Sanni also known as Samrad Property agency, and Mrs Bamigbola, Mama Dada and others for themselves and on behalf of business owners and residents of Number 1 Asikolaye street, Olaiya Area, Osogbo, to urgently inform you of an abandoned middle aged woman who they woke up to observe this morning 30th September 2024 when they opened their business promises for today activities.

“They are hereinafter called our clients.
“Sir, we therefore urgently request your good office to take immediate and necessary actions thereon to avoid any untoward consequences.

“In conclusion, as we perform our civic duties as good citizens of this country, we hope that your good office shall respond thereof to our report in public interest, safety and security.
Speaking with newsmen on the development, a resident of the area who simply identified himself as, Baba Lekan, said, “the lady was dumped in the area in the middle of night because, before we went home on Saturday, there was no presence of the lady not until Monday when they resumed for our daily business activities.”

When we saw her this morning, she could neither talk nor identify anything.
“She was well-dressed but we suspected she has fallen prey into the hands of those yahoo yahoo guys.

“As a matter of fact, they must have used her for money ritual.”

He however charged the State Government and concerned authorities to come to the aid of the lady to save the life of the dying victim.

CrimeFamily Seeks Help As Mentally-Challenged Father Goes Missing In Lagos by NaijaCover(op): 12:28pm On Oct 02, 2024
The Family Members Of Elijah Bassey are seeking public assistance to help locate their father, who is mentally challenged and has gone missing in the Ajuwon community of Ifo Local Government Area, Ogun State.

PUNCH Metro learnt on Monday that Bassey went missing in August 2024 after his elder brother, identified only as Ekpo, left to get him food at the house where he was staying.

Samuel, the missing man’s son, told our correspondent on Monday that they had searched the entire community and even reported the incident to the Zone 2 Police Command to locate his whereabouts.

He said, “My dad was dealing with mental health issues and was taken from Ajuwon to our village in Akwa Ibom. A few weeks later, a family member travelled to the town to bring him back.

“When he returned, our uncle, with whom he was staying, said he went out to buy food, but by the time he came back, our father was nowhere to be found. We’ve reported the matter to the police.”

During a phone interview with our correspondent on Monday, Bassey’s daughter, Rebecca, recounted a similar incident and appealed to kind-hearted Nigerians for assistance in locating their father.

She said, “My father wasn’t feeling well, and we were advised to take him to our village in Akwa Ibom for proper care. One of his brothers there assured us that he would look after him.

We travelled to the village, but after a few days, a family member went there to bring him back to Lagos.

“I live in Ilorin with my husband, but when I heard my father had been brought back to Lagos, I travelled there. Upon arriving, I was shocked to learn that he had gone missing just a few days after his return. I am pleading with Nigerians to help us find him.”

Inspector Olanrewaju Isaac from the Zone 2 Police Command, who said he had been assisting the family in the search for their missing father, told our correspondent that the family was eager to find him to confirm his well-being.

“No one has been implicated. The family wants to determine whether the man is alive and to discover his whereabouts.

“The case was initially reported at the Ajuwon Police Station before being escalated to Zone 2 for further investigation. Anyone with relevant information is encouraged to approach the nearest police station,” he said.

A 45-Year-Old Man, Ayobami Oshoko, has died by suicide at his home in the Mango, Oke-Ata area of Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the incident took place around 6:00 am on September 30.

The Spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident to PUNCH Metro on Tuesday and stated that the victim was believed to have ingested insecticide to end his life due to the hardship he was allegedly facing.

Our correspondent learnt that the deceased’s sister, identified as Funmilayo, reported the incident to the Lafenwa Police Division after discovering her brother’s lifeless body in his room, with a bottle of insecticide found beside him.

She said, “A friend of the deceased visited his home and asked to see him. Upon entering the room, he discovered the victim’s body on the floor and raised the alarm after finding that the victim had ingested a mixture of insecticide and herbal concoction.

He left a note written in Yoruba language, explaining the reasons behind his decision. In the note, he expressed frustration with his life and stated that he felt he had no choice but to end it. A discreet investigation is currently underway.”

A PUNCH Metro report on September 15 highlighted a surge in suicide cases in Lagos and Ogun states. Psychiatrists linked the rise to factors such as hunger, debt, and the high cost of living.

In a September 2024 interview with PUNCH Metro, a retired Professor of Psychiatry from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and Medical Director of Theresa Ohaeri Memorial Specialist Hospital, Owerri, Jude Ohaeri, noted that “the economy has a substantial impact on voting behaviour and affects everyone, regardless of their financial status.

“Economic challenges can impact both psychological functioning and physical well-being, often leading to significant distress.”
