Four cultists were killed by rival cult groups in the Umuka community, Nawfia in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The Suspected rival cultists clashed on Sunday resulting in the death of four cultists.

Our correspondent gathered from eyewitnesses and some villagers on Monday that the victims were known for their nefarious activities and were always in rivalry with another cult group in the area.

The spokesman for the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, who confirmed the development, on Monday, also said operations were ongoing in the area for the possible arrest of the armed men.

He said, “Police operatives attached to Nimo Police upon arriving at the scene found four lifeless bodies of young men in a pool of blood with suspected multiple gunshot injuries lying on the road.

“The victims were confirmed dead by a doctor on duty and have been deposited at the morgue.

“They were later identified as one Ebuka Nwaonkwube Ekenta of Mmimi village Nawfia; Nnatuanya Junior a.k.a Starboy of Mmimi village, Nawfia; Aniemena Osama of Umuariam Village and one Ahmed Auwal.”

Similarly, the Anambra State Police Command said its operatives foiled the abduction/kidnapping plan of a foreigner by armed hoodlums, suspected to be members of a secessionist group.

A statement on Monday by the state police spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed that the incident happened in Ogbunka community in Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State, on Sunday.

Ikenga said the victim was rescued after the police engaged the hoodlums in a gun battle and exchange of gunfire that lasted for several minutes.

He added that two police officers, who sustained bullet wounds during the incident are currently receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital.

He said, “Police operatives in the morning of 6/10/2024 resisted the abduction/kidnapping plan of a foreigner by suspected armed secessionist members in Ogbunka village.

“The operatives courageously engaged the hoodlums in a gun battle and saved the VIP. But unfortunately, during the gun duel, two police operatives who were hit by bullets escaped with the foreigner. They are stable and are currently receiving treatment in a hospital.

“Meanwhile, operations are ongoing in the area for the possible arrest of the armed men.”

Ikenga added that in a similar development, the police operatives attached to the Nimo Police Station responded to a distress call at about 8:25 pm on Sunday of a suspected cult clash at Umuka, Nawfia in Njikoka LGA of the state.

He said, “The operatives, upon arriving at the scene, found four lifeless bodies of young men in a pool of blood with suspected multiple gunshot injuries lying on the road.

“The victims were confirmed dead by a doctor on duty and have been deposited at the morgue.

“They were later identified as one Ebuka Nwaonkwube Ekenta of Mmimi village Nawfia, Nnatuanya Junior a.k.a. Starboy of Mmimi village, Nawfia, Aniemena a.k.a Osama of Umuariam Village and one Ahmed Auwal.

“Information from eyewitnesses and some villagers revealed that the victims were known for their nefarious activities and were always in rivalry with another cult group in the area.

“Furthermore, joint patrol with operatives of the Special Anit-Cultism Squad has been intensified in the area.”

Ikenga also disclosed that the Commissioner of Police in Anambra, Nnaghe Obono Itam, has ordered immediate investigations into the gruesome murder of a 17-year-old girl suspected of being used for ritual purpose.

According to him, the girl’s lifeless body was found in a bush at Omasi village on Sunday at about 4:25 pm and later identified as one Chinasa Adigwe from Umueje village and her private parts were cut off in a bush at Omasi Village before the police were alerted.

“The body has been recovered and deposited in a morgue.

“The CP, while condoling with the family, friends and community of the deceased, stated that the police would do everything possible to make sure that those behind the barbaric act are arrested and justice served.

“Further development shall be communicated, Please,” Ikenga added.

Over 19 persons on Tuesday escaped death in Asaba, the Delta State capital, when a truck loaded with items fell on two buses along Nnebisi Road.

The accident, which occurred in front of the Bishop’s Court, St. Peters Anglican Church, Asaba, left some travellers injured.

An eyewitness, who did not want to be named told PUNCH Metro that the accident occurred due to the failed section of Asaba-Onitsha Road, noting that the truck fell on a bus belonging to Peace Mass Transit coming from Lagos and a shuttle bus, pressing the two buses.

“In fact, God has done a marvellous thing for us this morning and averted what would have been described as a bloodbath in Asaba. The 18- passengers of the Peace Mass Transit bus are alive, nobody died, and they only sustained minor injuries.

“You know that for over four months, the Asaba-Onitsha expressway has been totally bad. In fact, the road has collapsed, so vehicles including trucks are currently plying inside the town.

“And this inside town roads have also collapsed, it is very difficult to navigate, so this morning, while the truck was trying to navigate the bad road, it eventually fell and pressed the two buses. The two drivers sustain injuries,” an eyewitness narrated.

When our correspondent visited the scene of the accident, it was observed that items in the fallen truck were being transferred into another truck even as policemen were seen on ground controlling traffic.

Similarly, another truck that was trying to avoid Asaba-Onitsha’s failed road and navigating through St. Bridges Road killed a tricycle operator.

An eyewitness said that the truck driver ran away after killing the victim and abandoning the vehicle.

Efforts to reach the office of Federal Road Safety Corp failed as calls put across were not picked up as of the time of filling this report.

A Father of nine children, identified simply as Mr Charles, has reportedly committed suicide in the Jeddo community of Delta State.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the gory incident occurred in the early hours of Monday.

The man allegedly took his own life after drinking an insecticide.

Sources who are privy to the incident told PUNCH Metro that the said Mr Charles, who lived in the Jeddo community of Okpe Local Government Area, drank the insecticide at his residence and proceeded to his in-law’s place at nearby Ugbokodo, where he eventually gave up the ghost.

It was gathered that before the incident, Charles, who was a member of Jeddo Community Vigilante, had a heated argument with his wife, pleading with her not to leave him.

The wife however reportedly refused to hearken to his plea.

Although the late Charles did not leave behind any suicide note, empty bottles of the insecticide were reportedly discovered in his pockets.

The Police Public Relations Officer for the Delta State Command, SP Bright Edafe, could not be reached for comments on the incident as of the time of filing this report as he did not pick up his calls when our correspondent reached out to him.

What Is Really Happening Inside this Anambra

Nawfia community in Njikoka local government area of Anambra State was on Sunday, October 6th, 2024, thrown into mourning after the brazen actions of men of the underworld, regionally known as gunmen, killed five persons in the town.

According to the community’s President General, Chief Daniel Okoye, who disclosed this in a statement he signed and made available to journalists in Awka on Tuesday, narrated that the criminals came into the town and opened fire on innocent and defenceless citizens, killing five. Many people were also injured, including a small child.

“The Victims include two indigenes, Samuel Onyebuchi Nnatuanya (26 years old) and Chukwuebuka Ifeanyichukwu Nwonukwue (29 years old). Both hail from Adagbe Mmimi village, Nawfia.

The three other victims lived in Nawfia. One was from Ukwulu, one was from Ebonyi State, and the last victim was from the northern region of the country.

“From early investigations, it was found that around 8:00 PM on Sunday, a Lexus RX and a Toyota Sienna came to the Umukwa-Umuriam axis of the town and opened fire on the unsuspecting youths before speeding away. An AK-47 and a shotgun were used in the cowardly attack.

The leadership of Nawfia mourns their kin who were senselessly murdered in the prime of their lives. They also bemoan the killings of their residents, who had deemed Nawfia a place worth inhabiting. Nawfia Progressive Union and town leaders will do everything in their power to expose the animals who did this.

We also urge calm and patience from our people. Many stories and theories have been formed despite a lack of evidence to prove them. As of now, there is no indication that the killers were sent from a neighbouring town.

“There’s also no proof to support that the murders were cult-related. We will not rule out any party at this point and will not jump to any conclusions. We plead with Ndi Nawfia and the general public to do the same.

“We call on the Nigerian Police to do a proper and thorough investigation. So far, their response and approach have been inadequate. They should do all in their power to seek out and apprehend these serial killers and bring peace back to our environs,” the statement concluded.

Why Stabbing The Man To Death, Fear Women

A Sex Worker, Joy Kelvin, has allegedly stabbed a 48-Year-Old Man Identified Simply As Okafor to death at the Jakande Housing Estate in the Lekki area of Lagos State.

The Incident was said to have occurred on Monday morning at about 5:30 am.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the late Okafor had brought Joy to his house to spend the night but an argument broke out between them the following morning over payment.

A Police Source who spoke to our correspondent, on the condition of anonymity as he was not allowed to speak on the matter, said the suspect attacked her client with a sharp object which led to his death.

“Okafor brought the sex worker home the night earlier. She demanded her fee when he was leaving in the morning but Okafor did not give her what they agreed. This led to an argument and Joy reached for a sharp object and stabbed him. Okafor became unconscious after the attack and later died.”

Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, said the deceased’s friend lodged the report at the Ilasan Police Division in the area.

He added that a team of police detectives visited the scene, took photographs, and evacuated the corpse to the General Hospital Morgue, Yaba, for autopsy.

He Wrote, “Today, October 7, 2024, at approximately 07:20 hours, a complainant reported at the Ilasan Division that earlier that day at about 05:32 hours, he received a call from a friend stating that Okafor, a 48-year-old male and also his friend, was stabbed in his house at Jakande Housing Estate, Lekki, Lagos, by Joy Kelvin, a female prostitute he had brought home overnight.

“The victim was rushed to the General Hospital, Marina, Lagos, where he was pronounced dead by the doctor on duty. Following the report, detectives from the division promptly visited the scene, took photographs, evacuated the corpse, and deposited it at the General Hospital morgue, Yaba, for preservation and autopsy.”

Hundeyin further stated that the suspect had been arrested while efforts were underway to locate the deceased’s family members. “The investigation is ongoing,” the statement concluded.
