Update From . COM The Federal Government Of Nigeria has banned Loan apps from accessing customers’ photos and contacts. From May 31, 2023 loan apps on Play Store will lose their ability to access their users’ contacts or photos on a new policy by Google. Google, in its April 2023 policy updates, said the new policy update would provide respite for loan app users in Nigeria and other places that have become accustomed to crude loan retrieval methods employed by a majority of loan apps. According to the FG, the latest policy by Google was consistent with the Nigerian authorities’ move to curtail the invasion of customers’ privacy by loan app firms. Recently the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission had recently registered 170 loan apps out of the 200 operating in the country. Google said, “Policy preview (effective May 31, 2023): This article previews changes included in our April 2023 policy updates. “We are updating our personal loans policy to state that apps aiming to provide or facilitate personal loans may not access user contacts or photos. “We are introducing additional requirements for personal loan apps targeting users in Pakistan. Personal loan apps in Pakistan must submit country-specific licensing documentation to prove their ability to provide or facilitate personal loans.” This new policy is coming after Google announced updates to its Developer Programme Policy, mandating digital money lenders in Nigeria, India, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Kenya to conform to regulatory rules or be taken down by January 31. Another Terrible News, Coming From Calabar Proudly Brought To You By |
Update From . COM The Cross River State Police Command has condemned the jungle justice meted out to a suspected Phone thief in Calabar. The Suspect identified simply as Eyo, aged 22, was set on fire by an angry mob on Sunday, April 9, 2023, in Esu Street, off Edim Otop Street, Atimbo, Calabar Municipality LGA of the state. According to an eyewitness, Eyo had allegedly stolen an android phone the previous evening and fled, only to return the next morning and meet his tragic fate. Residents claim Eyo, who resided around the Second transformer in Inyanghasang, had been involved in petty theft for a long time. “I have known Eyo since secondary school, he has always been stealing, there was a time he stole half of the class school fees. Even as we grew into our 20s, Eyo became audacious in stealing and more notorious, he was always caught stealing, this is not the first time a mob tried to mob him, it’s unfortunate that he got unlucky today,” a source told Vanguard. "They started beating him with cutlasses and gave him deep cuts before setting him ablaze. Funny enough, it’s just for stealing an Android phone,” the source added. The spokesperson of the command, SP Irene Ugbo, who confirmed the incident, stated that it is illegal for anyone to take laws into their hands. Ugbo added that the right thing to do would have been to report the suspect to the nearest police station and hand him over, rather than killing him in such a gruesome manner. "The mob action against the suspect was illegal, barbaric and highly unacceptable, he should have been handed over to the police,” she added. Source: BLOG
