Akwa Ibom State Police command has admitted that one Bright Okon James, a ten-year-old boy is in its custody.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John in Press release on Saturday said the minor was taken into custody following allegations of defilement of a 3-year-old girl (name withheld).
John said the case is currently under investigation and findings, including a medical report have shown evidence of the incident adding that the suspect voluntarily admitted to the offence without coercion.
She, therefore dismissed the viral report that the boy was illegally detained and noted that he would be charged to court accordingly on Monday, February 10, 2025.
She insisted that there was no trial by ordeal in the matter as such practices are criminal under Nigerian law.
The statement in parts, “The attention of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command has been drawn to a viral report alleging the illegal detention of a 10-year-old boy, Bright Okon James.
“The Akwa Ibom State Police Command under the watchful eyes of CP Baba Mohammed Azare, fsi, remains steadfast in upholding the rule of law and ensuring that justice is served in line with due process.”

A vigilante operative simply identified as Olu has reportedly killed a pregnant woman in Okpare-Olomu community in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State.
The incident occurred Thursday, DAILY POST can report.
It was gathered that the suspect had been dating the married woman whose husband works offshore.
Reports had it that he eventually impregnated the woman.
It was also gathered that the woman recently informed the suspect that she was pregnant but he allegedly asked her to terminate. The woman, however, insisted that the pregnancy must be kept.
It was also gathered that the suspect, two days ago called the woman to see him at night but before the woman left the house, she told her children that the suspect called and invited her to him that they should lock the door and sleep in case she does not return.
The following day, the lifeless body of the deceased woman was discovered near the abode of a former senator.
The deceased woman’s son following interrogation revealed that the suspect had summoned his mother the night before.
Promptly, a search party was launched and they caught the suspect who was already running out of the community.
He was apprehended and beaten very seriously before he was handed over to the Police for further prosecution and possible prosecution.

The Nasarawa State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a suspect, John Gambo, in connection with the brutal killing of a student, Ibrahim Matthew, following a violent altercation.
According to a press release issued by the command’s spokesperson, SP Ramhan Nansel, the incident occurred on February 6, 2025, at about 0200hrs in a lodge behind ECWA Peace College, Shagari Road, Nasarawa.
Nansel stated that the police were alerted by a resident, Mercy Bassey, about a confrontation between two persons.
Upon arrival at the scene, he stated that detectives found Ibrahim Matthew, an ND2 Computer Science student at the Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa, FPN, lying in a pool of blood with fatal injuries.
He was rushed to General Hospital, Nasarawa, where he was confirmed dead. His body has been deposited at the morgue for a post-mortem examination.
“Following a swift investigation, the suspect, one John Gambo, a male ND2 student in the Banking and Finance Department of the same institution, was apprehended.
“The suspect confessed to violently attacking/hacking the deceased with both an axe and a knife, leading to Ibrahim Matthew’s tragic death.
“Both the axe and the knife were recovered from the suspect,” the statement read.
Nansel further stated that the Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and prosecution.

A 200-level male student of the University of Ilorin, UNILORIN, Kwara State, has reportedly committed suicide over economic hardship.
DAILY POST gathered that the deceased, whose identity was yet-to-be known, was from the Faculty of Communication and Information Sciences.
It was further learned that the student was on the cumulative aggregate of 4.5 academic standing at the Department of Mass Communication before his unfortunate death.
The incident occurred at his private residence located at Oke-Odo axis of Tanke community, Ilorin, the state capital.
Sources in the university community, who spoke to newsmen, said that the deceased committed suicide due to financial challenges facing him.
It was also learnt that the deceased lost his father a few years ago, while his mother, a retired school teacher, had taken over financial responsibility for his academic since.
The deceased’s financial crisis reportedly started when he resumed school last year.
The development is said to have made his colleagues to raise some funds to pay his tuition fees and buy foodstuffs for him.
However, it was gathered that the deceased decided to take a poisonous substance last weekend, just after his roommate had left for lectures, leaving a note which stated his inability to cope with his financial situation.
His roommate was said to have raised the alarm on the incident when they returned from lectures.
A senior administrative officer in the school management, who sought anonymity on the development, confirmed the incident to journalists in Ilorin on Tuesday.

Operatives Of The Ogun State Security Network Agency, also known as Amotekun Corps, on Tuesday, arrested one Ramoni Segun after his girlfriend allegedly died in his house.
The deceased, simply identified as Adijat, was said to have spent the night at his residence in Odoraboyejo Ojowo, Ijebu Igbo, in the state.
DAILY POST gathered that the woman, who had complained of severe stomach pains, was discovered unresponsive and subsequently dead on Tuesday morning.
According to a statement by the corps’ deputy commander, Tajudeen Bakare, his arrest followed a distress call from an anonymous source.
Upon receiving the information, the officers promptly arrived at the scene, leading to the apprehension of the suspect for questioning.
Part of the statement read: “On Monday, February 3rd, 2025, in the evening, the suspect, identified as Ramoni Abiodun Segun, brought his girlfriend, Adijat, to his residence. However, a distress call received this morning at 9:00 am from an anonymous source alerted that the woman was discovered unresponsive and subsequently dead in Segun’s room.
“In his statement, Segun claimed that Adijat had been experiencing stomach pain throughout the night, which he believed resulted in her unfortunate death.”
He noted that the suspect has been transferred to the Ijebu Igbo police division for further investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the death.
