CrimeBoy Escapes Death On Father’s Bike After Erroneous Shot By Night Guard In Ibadan by NaijaCover(op): 11:49am On Jan 31, 2025
A 13-Year-Old Boy, Olaitan Tiamiyu, narrowly escaped death after he was erroneously shot by a night guard at Wajawaja Community in Apete area of Ibadan, Oyo State, while on his father’s motorcycle on their way home late on Monday night.

The night guard, Mr Akeem Babalola, however said that he thought the rider was a thief when he waved at him to stop but he sped off.

Nigerian Tribune gathered that the boy’s father, Alhaji Monsuru Tiamiyu, was on his way home with his son whom he went to pick from his mother’s shop when the incident occurred.

According to a community member, who craved anonymity, the man was passing by Alapata Community on Apete-Akufo Road when he saw flashlights.

Thinking they were robbers, he increased his speed and left the people whose faces he could not see.

He thought he had left them behind, but what he heard next was a loud bang from a gunshot. Then his son cried out that he had been hit,” the source said.

With his son writhing in pain, the shocked father was said to have gone back where the shooter was and held him. Two other guards with him reportedly fled when they saw that their boss recognised the rider.

The source said that the father asked his son to make a distress call to their family members and neighbours who arrived at the scene of the incident shortly after.

Nigerian Tribune further learnt that on sighting the boy with gunshot injuries, the mob which had gathered attacked the shooter until he lost consciousness.

The boy was taken to a local doctor to extract 11 pellets buried in his left thigh, buttock and back, while the night guard was conveyed to a private hospital for prompt medical treatment of his battered head and face.

When Nigerian Tribune visited the boy in the hospital he was transferred to after the local pellets extraction, he was seen with a bandaged thigh which had bloody spots.

Narrating his experience, the JSS3 student said: “We live at Lamini Community. We were going home from my mother’s shop at Yidi area on Monday. We initially wanted to stop to pick something from our second shop at Alapata Community but my daddy decided against it because it was late.

“As we were on the road, we saw flashlights beamed at our direction. We saw men on the road standing on each side of it. We thought they were robbers, so my father sped past them to avoid an attack.

“As we were about to negotiate a corner, one of them fired a shot at us, hitting my thigh and back. It hit my father on his buttock. I cried out, telling my father that I had been hit when my leg went numb and cold. I saw blood flowing. I fell and sat on the ground.

“My father was so scared and angry. He turned back immediately and held the shooter. The night guard recognized my father but started using the flat side of his cutlass and charms to beat him. Initially, they didn’t allow us to call anyone. By then, I was bleeding and feeling weaker. My father held the shooter while the two others ran away.

“Eventually, I called my mother and informed her. She came with members of landlords’ association.”

Other people who heard the commotion and came reportedly descended on the night guard when they saw the wounded boy bleeding. The Wajawaja Community residents who initially came were said to have hurriedly left when they saw the turn things took.

In his own explanation, the night guard, Mr Babalola, aged 55, who disclosed that he also owns concrete block making business, said: “We usually resume duty at 11pm at Wajawaja Community where I was employed. I have two other men working with me. At about 11:50pm, I noticed a motorcycle rider coming towards where I was on the road. As the rider saw us ahead with flashlights, he made a turn.

“Seeing the way he quickly turned, I suspected him to be a thief trying to escape being caught. I told the two others to be on the watchout as he might be planning to commit crime.

“At about 12:10am on Tuesday, the rider emerged again. As he was about to reach us, we waved him to a stop but he didn’t. He almost hit one of my men. I didn’t know that my finger was on the trigger of the dane gun I had with me. I just heard its sound, and it fell from my hand.

The man turned and started shouting that his son had been shot. By the time I looked at him closely, he was someone I knew.

“I told him of the need to quickly rush the boy to a hospital, but he held me and asked his son to call those he knew. Shorttly after, some men arrived, brandishing guns.

“My dane gun was forcibly collected while they started beating me. They broke bottles on my head and stabbed me in different places. I lost consciousness and only found myself in the hospital.”

He said that the complainant was just trying to nail him by saying that he used charms to beat him, asking rhetorically how someone on whom charms were used would still be able to stand?

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Oyo State Command, CSP Adewale Osifeso, confirmed the incident.

He said was already being investigated, adding that an update would be provided.

Politics‘Nigeria Is Bleeding’ – Adamawa Governor, Fintiri by NaijaCover(op): 7:03am On Jan 31, 2025
Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa state has told the Federal Government that Nigeria is bleeding.

This is as he faulted the economic policies of the Federal Government, saying they are imposing severe hardship on Nigerians.

Fintiri stated this at a meeting of the National Reconciliation Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, with governors from the North East and other key stakeholders in Bauchi.

The governor expressed frustration with the state of the nation’s economy, saying “Nigeria is bleeding, we are suffering, there is too much anger, and the economic policy is not working.

“That is why we always call on the Federal Government to reconsider some of these economic policies that are only putting hardship on Nigerians.”

Fintiri further stressed that holding a position of power is a privilege given by God, and therefore, the country must be governed based on trust and responsibility.

He called on the Federal Government to focus on policies that do not bring further pain to Nigerians.

“The country belongs to us. It does not belong to the World Bank, IMF, or the international community,” he said.

During the meeting, the Chairman of the National Reconciliation Committee, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, acknowledged the factors that led to the party’s loss in the last election.

He identified disunity within the party as a key reason and expressed the committee’s commitment to addressing those issues.

“We are here to interact with our leadership and membership of our great party so that we can discuss where we are falling short of what we were supposed to do, which led to the outcome we witnessed,” Oyinlola said.

CrimeDelta Mob Sets Man Ablaze For Beheading A Woman by NaijaCover(op): 6:30am On Jan 31, 2025
A yet-to-be-identified man has been burnt to death by a mob for allegedly beheading a woman in the Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, confirmed this in a post on X.com on Thursday.

According to Edafe, the man had killed the woman in a bush on Monday, beheaded her and then took the severed head to his house.

Edafe stated that the community discovered the crime and, in a fit of rage, descended on the man’s house, where they found the woman’s head. He was thereafter set ablaze.

He wrote, “Three days ago, a young man went into a bush in Isoko South Local Government Area, killed a woman, beheaded her and carried the head to his house. The community found out, went to his house, saw the woman’s head, and in anger, they burnt him to death.”

The police spokesman, however, revealed that it was the third case of ritual killing in less than two months in the state.

He added, “This is the third case of ritual killing in less than two months in Delta alone. We had one in Abuja and some other parts of the country. What is it with this get-rich-quick syndrome? What is wrong with us and how do we prevent this?”

PUNCH Metro reports that a 20-year-old man, identified as Precious, was arrested for his alleged role in the killing of a 10-year-old girl on Monday, January 9, in the Orhoakpo Ethiope East area of the state.

Precious was said to have confessed to kidnapping the girl for two unidentified men, who allegedly macheted her to death after promising him N200,000.

This became public knowledge after Precious’ girlfriend, who is the sister of the deceased, raised the alarm after discovering her sibling was missing.

CrimeFada Ebube Muonso Confirms Arrest Of Kidnappers Who Abducted US Returnee Catholi by NaijaCover(op):
Enough Is Enough — Fr. Ebube Muonso Warns Kidnappers in Anambra, Confirms Arrest of Fr. Okoye’s Abductors (Video)

Fiery Catholic priest, Rev Fr Emmanuel Obimma, popularly known as Fada Ebube Muonso, has revealed that six of the kidnappers who abducted his colleague in December have been apprehended.

The priest, while speaking to his congregation, said he was happy that the kidnappers who had mocked him had finally been arrested.

Rev Fr Nonso, a Catholic priest studying in the US, who was on vacation in Anambra, was kidnapped in December after he had procured fuel for his vehicle at a filling station.

Obimma, who made several efforts to get him rescued, had cried out that it took the intervention of a governor from outside Anambra for the kidnappers to be tracked and the location of the kidnapped priest revealed.

He had lamented the porous nature of security in Anambra, stating that even after using equipment from outside the state to track the location, security operatives in Anambra refused to act until he tipped them with N1 million. He expressed his frustration with the Prof Chukwuma Soludo-led government which he condemned for its lacklustre performance in security.

Rev Fr Nonso was, eventually, released on Christmas Eve and was later presented to the congregation.

But speaking to his congregation on Sunday, Obimma said that six of the kidnappers who held the priest had been apprehended.

He said: “I had told you people I spoke with them (kidnappers) and ordered them to release the priest, but they told me that I was joking. They told me they see me every day and have just been resisting the temptation to kidnap me.

“When we sent the ransom to them, I told them it wouldn’t be long before they are apprehended, and the kidnappers said to me ‘iseee’, which is the Igbo word for Amen.

“What they did was mock me, but they did not know that I was serious. Just days ago, they were apprehended, and you need to see how they were begging.”

Meanwhile, there have been videos of the arrest of the kidnappers on social media, but as of the time of filing this report, police authorities in Anambra have yet to release an official statement about the arrest.
