A Man who tried to make peace has been punched to death while trying to separate a fight in Adamawa State.

The Peacemaker, Markus Dali, had stepped between Barka Yama and Alex Tari who were exchanging fisticuffs, seeking to make them stop the fight, only to become the victim as Barka Yarma allegedly gave him the blow that proved fatal.

The three are of Sina Kwande community in the Michika Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

The Adamawa State Police Command, after arresting the 32-year-old Barka, arraigned him before the Chief Magistrate Court I sitting in Yola, on the charge of culpable homicide.

Arraigning the defendant, the prosecuting police officer, ASP Francis Audu, explained that while Barka Yama and Alex Tari were fighting on the 30th August, 2024, Markus Dali decided to intervene but the defendant gave him a blow, after which he fell down and became unconscious.

“He was later confirmed dead by a medical doctor after he was rushed to the hospital,” the police prosecutor said.

After the defendant pleaded guilty, the prosecutor urged the court to remand him in a correctional centre to enable the prosecution transmit the case diary to the Department of Public Prosecution for legal advice.

The court, presided over by Chief Magistrate Muhammed Njidda, granted the application and ordered that the defendant be remanded.

An Argument between two relatives turned tragic in Lagos on Monday as one of them fatally stabbed his cousin during a physical confrontation.

The Lagos State Police Command confirmed the incident to PUNCH Metro in a terse statement issued by the Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, noting that the suspect was at large.

The Police said a woman reported that her son, Ganiyu Ibrahim, and her nephew, Afeez Akeem, were having a misunderstanding that resulted in a physical confrontation.

The altercation occurred at around 7 a.m. when Ganiyu allegedly engaged in a heated argument with his cousin, Afeez, that escalated into violence.

“As a result, Ganiyu broke a bottle and stabbed Afeez on the left side of his chest. The victim was rushed to a hospital, where he was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty. A team of detectives was immediately mobilised to the scene, and photographs were taken,” the police spokesman said.

Hundeyin noted that the family declined an autopsy, choosing to bury Akeem according to Islamic rites.

“The suspect is at large. Investigation is ongoing, and efforts are being made to apprehend the fleeing suspect,” the PPRO added.

Earlier in October, the command detained 25-year-old Chibunma Chimelie who allegedly stabbed his 68-year-old father to death in Lagos.

Hundeyin confirmed to the News Agency of Nigeria on October 4, 2024, that the incident happened around 10:00 p.m. in the Isolo area of the state.

Hundeyin said the suspect’s brother reported the incident to the Aswani Police Divisional Station.

Faisal Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi, the eldest son of former Kaduna State Governor, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, has died

He was involved in an accident, which occurred along Kaduna-Zaria highway on Saturday evening, October 12.

He was taken to an undisclosed hospital where he was declared dead.

His father, who was at the hospital, immediately arranged for his corpse to be conveyed home for burial arrangement DailyTrust Reports.

Faisal is a civil engineer by training. He attended Kaduna International School and then proceeded to Adesoye College, Offa, Kwara State for his secondary education. He attended the University of Greenwich, London, for undergraduate and master’s degree and enrolled for PhD at the same institution.

Nigerians have gone on Facebook to mourn him.

15-Year-Old Tricycle Rider Hacked To Death; Alleged Killer Burnt By Residents In Delta

A keke driver simply identified as "Smally", operating between Ugbuwangue and Ogunu communities in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State, has been hacked to death with a battle axe by a man identified as Jereoma of Jeddo Community, in Okpe Local Government of the State.

The teenager, who reportedly started the keke business less than a month ago, was said to have picked up his killer between the hours of 8 p.m., and 9 p.m., on October 8, from Ugbuwague to Ogunu on a chattered basis only to be hacked to death in Ogunu community.

The assailant then dumped his body around a plantain farm beside a private school at the Ogunu head bridge.

Afterwards, the alleged killer, with his blood-soaked shirt, took the deceased's keke in a bid to escape but the tricycle fell into a ditch.

Hausa traders who saw the keke fall into the ditch ran to assist the rider but were shocked to see him drenched in blood.

On further inquiry, they discovered that the tricycle belongs to someone they knew in the area.

According to sources, when they inquired about the real owner of the keke from him, he could not provide a convincing answer.

The tricycle riders searched the area and discovered the mutilated body of the 15-Year-Old "Smally", with his head axed and opened up from behind.

The corpse was brought to the military post on the MPA expressway at Ugbuwangue.

Angry youths took the killer from the soldiers’ custody and set him ablaze before the Police Area Commander, Chairman of Warri South LGA and officers from the 3 Battalion Army Barracks arrived at the scene.

The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested one Nura Mas'ud, 26, for setting his 60-year-old grandmother ablaze in Sule Tankarkar Local Government Area of the state.

The Spokesperson of the command, DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam who disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, October 12, 2024, said the suspect went to his family house with a petrol canister, poured it on his grandmother, Zuwaira Muhammad and set her ablaze.

The woman eventually passed away while receiving treatment at a hospital.

According to the PPRO, the suspect suffers from mental illness and has been receiving treatment at a Psychiatric Hospital.

During interrogation, the suspect admitted to the dastardly act, claiming that his late grandmother upset him by expressing concern about his physical appearance and health.

“On 08/10/2024 at about 1600hrs, the Command was notified of a sad and regrettable incident that occurred in Mu'azu village, Dan Gwanki ward, Sule Tankarkar LGA,” the statement read.

"That one Nura Mas'ud 'm' age 26yrs of Mu'azu village, Sule tankarkar LGA, went to his family house with a petrol canister and suddenly poured it on his grandmother, Zuwaira Muhammad 'f', age 60yrs of the same address, and set her ablaze.

"The elderly woman eventually passed away while being admitted as a result of the conflagration. The medical doctor on call certified her death and the corpse was released to relatives for burial according to Islamic rites.

"A team of police detectives from Sule tankarkar division quickly arrested the suspect and detained him in the cell. He was later ferried to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a discreet investigation.

"During the interrogation, the suspect admitted to committing the alleged offence against him.

"A preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect suffers from mental illness and has been receiving treatment at Kazaure Psychiatric Hospital.

"The Suspects further stated that, the late grandmother upset him by expressing concern about his physical appearance and health, which he did not want. He warned her on several occasions but she refused. Thus, he purchased gasoline, poured and ignited her.

“The Jigawa State Commissioner of Police, CP AT Abdullahi psc, directed the State Criminal Investigation Department, Dutse, to thoroughly investigate the case and vigorously prosecute the perpetrator in order to deter others from repeating it.”
