Yes. If you ask for the meaning (particularly if you ask southerners) no one can give you answer, but they can say what it refers to, being the god of thunder, which we originally know by another name. As for the use of both lu/nu variants, maybe. It might be possible, but I've yet to see or hear an Ngwa, Asa, Echee, Ndoki, Ikwere, etc. write or pronounce "Kamalu".

I might be late but i'm ngwa and our family name is kamalu.

Oh no, that is too much for me. I would have been so freaked out. loooooool, my sister was on the train on time and she was reading a book and some man was lookin' at the book while she was reading and when she turned the page the dude sucked is teeth and said he wasn't done with the page.

LOL what? he better get his own book then.

As for me I am seriously reserving that word for idiots. In America is is so common white people are called "wiggas", Mexicans "Miggas", Chinese "Chiggas" (All asians really because most Americans believe China = Asia); etc LOL. Its rediculous but its accepted. So anyone regardless of race who does dumb schitt is acting "n.ggarish" but I wont use it as a term of endearment anymore because I refuse to continue to be two sided.

LOL okay those are new to me, never heard those words used b4. Miggas? . . . . lol and latinos say nigga all the time but apparently they have a nigga pass so they're cool undecided And the only time it is "tolerated" for a white person to use that word too is if all his friends are black or he's hood like eminem. smh

i must admit you have a point on some of what you wrote but damn you are defending DC like a politician double shrugs

poster
most of what folks have written on here are mostly their own personal experiences. The best way to judge for yourself is to experience it and make your own decisions about if you are willing to live in the hood as diva calls it. Most people can't afford to spend the crazy money that you might have to spend to live in a decent area so they live where they can afford which sometimes turns out to be bad. just be prepared to work hard because thats just about the only way you can make it out her. some people fall into money (less than 1% of the population) but others have to work. so get ready

LOL not defending it.

JeSoul:

ND, there's no need to be so defensive. I bolded twice that it is for gun-related deaths, pls re-read the post again.

And yes everyone knows DC is not a state however it has to be treated as such in statistic-related metrics.

not being defensive but even tho u highlighted gun relate death, your post implied that if was due to crime.

umm that list is bogus in so many ways.  anyways i know what i'm talking about. lived in the area my whole life (well not dc per se) but the dc area. and idk WHY NY is that far down the list, OHkay.

And are we talking about crime and safety or just fire arm death bcuz that could explain why alaska may be #2 or why alot of the southern states are so high up, so once again, why the list And btw DC is not a state.
Career / Re: What Is The Best Thing U Like About your Workplace by naijadiva2(f): 9:40pm On Oct 29, 2010
I love my workplace bcuz it is very chill, no one breathing down your back and annoying you, they're like my family outside of home, we have parties for everything. Noone's harrassing u about being to work on time (but dont make it a habit or don't lie about either) or about anything. Flexible schedule and paid sick leaves, vacations, holidays. awesome benefits. free benefits for public transportation.

dislike: it can get really quiet and boring here but i still love it. And not enough eateries around so yea, every once in a whle you'll hear ppl complaining about the kitchen downstairs lol

I am always d only 1 in d office and i browse all day grin grin

afam4eva:

Why's baltimore not on your llist.

she can't list them all lol

another thing, when it comes to racism, white pple in the south (by tradition) tend to be more hidden about it. they will smile if your face, scorn u at your back. they call it "southern hospitality." (but a few pple will call u nigger or stinkin' african in your face. that has happened to me many many times)

Thats a lie, i think u got it mixed up. In the south, if the whites hate u, they hate u and you'll know it, if they love u, they love u. up north its more subtle and hidden bcuz the average population is not going to allow such bull like that to happen so they do it a very quiet way. Let's just say i better be in the middle of nowhere up north then down south.

grin grin grin dude are you kidding me? south east DC is on the news everyday for some kind of shooting. yes people might be getting killed too in VA but DC rate is out of control.

Poster

south East washington DC has like the lowest rent you will find anywhere. you have your light gas water included in your rent in most places. and a one bedroom can be as low as $500. Ask anyone who has lived anywhere in the U. S if $500 would get you that amout of amenities anywhere else.
Do you know why it's so cheap ? it's because the robbery, murder and assualt rate is off the charts.

I knew u were gonna bring up SE (how typical), but the truth of the matter is If u do not have a decent job or make enough $$$, forget about living in DC period. SE is one section and not all of SE is bad. People over-exaggerate when talking about DC. you can go to any low-income hood in america, its gonna be rough, even DC is safer then B-more.

And I'm sure if u go down south, u can find homes for almost the same price. *shrugs*

JeSoul:

Wow. Only $500 bucks? I could live like a dead queen in DC then lol.

Don't be fooled, (unless u want to be dodging bullets everyday) that price is only relevent to the hood areas even some "hood" areas in DC are charging arm and leg for residency. If u want to live in very normal neighbor, house, appartment, its stll expensive. you're best bet is moving to MD or VA.

Well anyways, one day I hope to move to DC, once i start making proper $$$ Lol

My points is big or fat nose changes facial expression, Checkout Ethiopians or Somalians and why they have pretty face and try to ignore the poverty side coz its a different thing.I am just objective but it seems it will be difficult relating with some Nigerians.

We dont need u relating anything, just dont be ignorant. period! And lets not be naive, I think u and i both know the reason why ple consider those from the horn beautiful ( which they are in fact).

I am not getting any joy from that and as for my opinion,I have stated that already.Straight pointed nose is the best but fat or big and shrinked nose are not good because they affect your facial outlook or expression.Hope you understand.

oh wow shocked shocked shocked There's no such thing as a bad nose, however, its not wrong to have perference but don't suggest that one nose type is bad and the other is good. And for the record, u can have a BIG fat pointed nose, so whats your point

I'm black and my brothers and i have African names cuz my dad thought it was necessary to hold on to that part of ourselves. ^^^ yes the do?

Can you imagine a world run by women? There would be no civilizations because they have yet to create one. There would be no inventions or ininnovativeriginal ideas. I do give them credit, they improve man's inventions. We would have never moved into the agriculture era, industrial revolution, information age.

It would be nice though to see women take on the responsibities that men hold. They can fight along side the men, become financially responisble, stop taking the victim role. I just don't think we are there yet. Might take a few more hundred years.

I don't know what hole you live in but ok undecided

Culture / Re: Why Do Africans Have Foreign Names? by naijadiva2(f): 8:31pm On Oct 26, 2010
@op

I've heard that some african parents give their children foreign names bcuz they feel that their children will be discriminated less, ie: when applying for job, going to a nice university, etc.

and for some, its has to do with inferiority.

My first and last name is african. my middle name is english. Growing up, some of my african classmates preferred being called by their english middle name instead of their african first name. I never did, but i did get tired of ppl messing up my name or if we had a substitute teacher and they had to call the roll for attendance, the min they started stumbling I knew it was my name they were trying to call lol.

The name i go by today is the same name i went by at birth; no changing, shortening, substituting, remixing my name. And if i do have kids in the future, i'm giving them straight african names.
