Ericsson Nigeria, telecommunications services provider has served its Nigerian workers sack notice which will take effect by the end of this November. The affected workers are working in the Network Operating Centre (NOC) of the company and they are required to do a knowledge transfer to the Indians that will take over their jobs. Nigeria CommunicationsWeek investigations revealed that Ericsson carried out similar exercise of sacking Nigerian workers in July this year when some part of MTN managed services handled by Ericsson was moved to India. Now the Indians want to handle more of the services precipitating the recent sack notice to additional workers. It was learnt that Ericsson Nigeria has sacked more workers in Nigeria than other African countries not because the jobs are not there but because it is easier to get away with such practice in Nigeria and the jobs are now remotely done from India which means money generated in Nigeria are used to enrich India. Confirming the development in a reply to our email, Johan Jemdahl, managing director, Ericsson Nigeria, said that, “To maintain a leading position, Ericsson is continuously evolving and transforming the way we deliver services, both locally and globally, for the benefit of our customers. Therefore, we constantly review and adjust cost levels as market growth and business needs are changing over time from a global perspective. “Transformation is about uncovering opportunities to further leverage global skills and scale to increase efficiencies and reduce cost across the business. This is not something that is happening only here, it is something we are doing on a global, regional and local level in our services business. It is part of being a services company. If and when we have information about any measures to take, we will as always inform affected employees first.” http://m.guardian.ng/technology/ericsson-to-sack-nigerians-as-firm-ships-jobs-to-india/?F |

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Friday said the engagement of the first 200,000 out of the Federal Government’s 500,000 Volunteer Job Programme will begin in about two weeks’ time. Mr. Osinbajo gave the assurance in Lagos at a colloquium on The Way Forward for Nigeria. “We are trying to create jobs directly,’’ he said, adding that “the government is creating space for more private sector activities for facilitated economic growth.’’ Mr. Osinbajo said the Volunteer Corps Programme ought to have started on October 31. “The delay is because we are trying to provide as many equipment as we require. We also want to ensure that we provide opportunities across the states as they come. “Close to a million registered; we should start with the first 200,000 in 14 days or thereabout. “It is a temporary opportunity for young graduates. We have volunteer teachers, public health officers. They will be given a device that contains training module,’’ he explained. He added that registration was ongoing for the micro credit scheme for a million artisans and market women. Awaiting BVN In a separate statement, Mr. Osinbajo’s spokesperson, Laolu Akande, said the engagement of the 200,000 Nigerians was awaiting the completion of Bank Verification Number (BVN) clearance. According to him, the verification is to ensure that the beneficiaries are paid directly. He said that no fewer than 500,000 Nigerians would be engaged in the job-creation scheme. He said the first selection was done by Presidency officials in collaboration with Ministries of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Health and other government agencies. He added that foreign consultants were neither used nor needed. Mr. Akande said that three criteria were used for the selection of the 200,000. He said 40 per cent was selected based on the number of applications per state; a special mark-up was made for the six states of the Northeast; and a discretionary addition for states with low numbers of applicants. He said the Buhari Social Investment scheme differed from the defunct SURE-P in many ways including the elimination of errors identified in SURE-P. According to him, the Presidency conceived the Social Investments Programmes as a means to effectively and efficiently touch the lives of Nigerians, especially the unemployed and the poorest. Said he: “we have designed a full-proof process that will ensure that the goods are delivered. “There would not be any middle-men and the payments to be made to the N-Power candidates, the monthly N5, 000 to the poorest and most vulnerable among others would be paid directly to them.” The Vice Presidential Spokesman said there was high level of enthusiasm shown in the social investment programme from every state of the federation. He added that the use of online method of application was to also avoid the awkward method of recruitment in the past that had resulted in deaths and injury to many applicants. Mr. Akande, however, added that only the job application segment of the social investment scheme was subjected to online application while the remaining aspects were not treated as such. “There are no online applications required for those set of Nigerians for whom the monthly N5,000 Conditional Cash Transfer of the Buhari Social Investment programmes are designed for,’’ he said. He urged Nigerians to disregard social media reports on alleged mismanagement of the N500 billion Social Intervention Funds. According to Mr. Akande, the Presidency understands the need for an ongoing public discussion of this unprecedented budgetary allocation in favour of the Nigerian people especially the poorest and the most vulnerable. He, however, noted that it was “not correct to claim any form of mismanagement or marginalisation whatsoever’’. He added that “there has not been any disbursement from the allocated fund not to talk of any kind of mismanagement at all. “While it is true that funds are being released for the social investment programmes, it is rather preposterous for now to say there is no evidence where the funds have gone to. “As an administration noted for its transparency, we intend to fully keep Nigerians posted of all financial expenditure in line with extant laws of the country.” (NAN) |

Editor’s note: You serve your homeland, you risk your lives but then your country just betrays and forgets you… This is exactly what happened to Ebuka Emeka and the Nigerian army personnel who now accuse Lt.-Gen. Tukur Yusuf Buratai and other top army officials of the appropriation of funds meant for soldiers. Mr Emeka has contacted Naij.com to ask for assistance in resolving the issue and reaching Mr Buratai, stressing a high probability of chaos erupting in case their demands ignored. It is worrisome to note that Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf Buratai, the current chief of army staff, is hijacking our allowances. How they exploite us Soldiers have complained about some army generals in collaboration with Mr Buratai misappropriating their allowances for personal usage on a regular basis. They said such attitude is weakening the morale of soldiers who are now in foreign missios in Liberia, Mali and Sudan. The militants are aware of the situation their colleagues in Nigeria are in — the soldiers are still awaiting their payments if any to come. READ ALSO: This brave Nigerian HERO lost his soul in fight with Boko Haram (photo) The soldiers also complain that only half of allowances were given to them despite their full-time service abroad. Sadly, the chief of army staff doesn’t bother about the welfare of the soldiers, but bothering for his pocket. The soldiers further stated: How would they go to foreign mission and come back only to find their allowances were converted to personal use of the army leadership? Rely only on ourselves The soldiers are using their own money to buy uniform, drugs and other things. If the military can’t provide the bare essentials — why, then the allowances meant for soldiers are misappropriated? There is no any significance change between the past administration and the President Muhammadu Buhari’s government. The only difference is that during Goodluck Jonathan administration the Nigerian army paid complete allowances while the current one pays half of allowances. READ ALSO: “Pay us or we’ll storm National Assembly” – Nigerian soldiers Never in history of foreign missions the United Nations paid Nigerian contingent uncompleted or half payment. The soldiers also appeal to the COAS to mind the welfare and allowances of the personnel especially those in the battlefront as failure to do so would cause chaos. https://www.naij.com/1031705-buratai-hijacks-personnel-allowances-nigerian-soldiers-cry.html |

Nollywood actor, John Okafor has said that he gives President Muhammadu Buhari 100 per cent of his support on his actions against the Nigerian judiciary in respect to the allegations of judicial misconduct and corruption leveled against some judges. Actor, John Okafor Recall that the Department of State Services, DSS, has in the past weeks conducted a ‘sting operation’ on Nigerian top judges whom they arrested, alleging judicial misconduct and corruption. The judges, whose homes were raided and arrested by operatives of the DSS during separate operations carried out on October 7 and 8, include two Justices of the Supreme Court, Sylvester Ngwuta and Iyang Okoro. Other judges are Adeniyi Ademola of the Federal High Court Abuja, Kabir Auta of the Kano High Court, Muazu Pindiga of Gombe High Court, Mohammed Tsamiya of the Court of Appeal, Ilorin, and the Chief Judge of Enugu State, I. A. Umezulike. Mr. Okafor who took to the social media to state his opinion rather based his support on the point that the indicted judges and the judiciary decided to keep mum instead of acting as the last hope of the common man when some Nigerians were allegedly wrongly accused, detained unlawfully and or refused bail even when they were either not found guilty or not being tried at all. Below is his words: “I will support Buhari for his action against Nigeria Judiciary ,when issue of Buhari’s certificate came up, No judge was serious to prosecute Buhari, when IPOB members where killed, No judge talked about it, when Nnamdi KANU was guiltless, No judge talk about it, When Dasuki was granted Bail even in ECOWAS Court.” “No Judge talked about it,When Shitte Muslim where killed in Kaduna No judge talked about it, what about the killings in Nimbo and Agatu? No judge talked about it, Margaret was killed in kano while preaching No judge talked about it, all the arrested boko haram members where released by Buhari, No judge talked about it, 2015 general election nko? No judge talked about it.” “As Nigerian Judiciary failed to jail Buhari let Buhari jail them……i give him my 100% Support on this one,” he concluded. Barely two months to the end of the 2016 fiscal year, how the Federal Government expended nearly N4 trillion remains unclear. Of the sum, more than N700 billion is believed to have been released to Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs). As at yesterday, neither the first nor second quarterly budgetary implementation reports, were available. The Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, recently revealed that at the end of September, the sum of N3.9 trillion out of N6.1 trillion budgeted for the year had been released. Adeosun made the revelation through the Director Special Projects in the ministry, Mohammed Dikwa, at a stakeholders’ forum on reducing the cost of governance in Abuja. She said that of the amount released, 18 per cent was for capital expenditure, while 82 per cent was for recurrent. Checks at the Budget and National Planning Ministry for clues on the deployment of particularly the capital votes were unsuccessful. Highly placed officials, who asked not to be identified, said the finance ministry was in a better position to say which MDAs had been recipients of money, and what their projects were. One official said: “Capital releases are handled by the Minster of Finance. MDAs pass their proposals through us, and after evaluation and satisfaction with them, we give the go ahead to the Ministry of Finance to release funds. So, it is the ministry that is in custody of records on released funds. “We monitor, evaluate and approve disbursements based on appropriation and requests from the MDAs. Even if we have copies of those approvals, we are not the appropriate authority to give out information on releases. What the MDAs have, as overall capital allocation in the 2016 budget, are indicated in the budget analysis, which can either be found in the strategy documents distributed much earlier or on the Budget Office website. The respective ministries can also tell you the extent to which they have gone on individual projects they carried out.” Adeosun could not return inquiries sent to her on the matter. The Director of Information in the ministry, Salisu Na’Nna Dambatta, told The Guardian: “The information you are seeking is not what I can stand here and supply, except you want me to talk to you on assumption, which professionally is not correct. Therefore, give us time, till next week (this week), to piece together information from the necessary agencies and from the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation.” At signing into law of the 2016 Appropriation Act in May, the Budget and National Planning Ministry spoke of how it would monitor and evaluate the performance of releases, to ensure quality outcome. The absence of any single quarter report of implementation, however, raises the question whether there has been any form of monitoring at all. The Minister of State in the Budget and National Planning Ministry, Hadiza Abdullahi, who spoke on ‘Modalities for Effective Tracking of 2016 Budget’, had promised: “The ministry will actively monitor and evaluate the implementation of projects in respect of which disbursements had been made.” http://m.guardian.ng/news/two-months-to-years-end-capital-votes-report-still-unavailable/ |
