elektra80: Glad u realize its not only based on trophies won like most folks here believe. Most people here will tell u Mikel deserve to win it because he won AFCON. Like I said in my earlier posts, Asamoah Gyan won it in 2010 without winning any trophy for his team (club or country). Also Adebayor and Okocha won it without winning any trophy.

The BBC award normally goes in favor of a player that performs exceptionally outstanding in AFCON if the award is given in an AFCON year. Note me using the word exceptionally outstanding. But they also consider when a player is equally outstanding in top club football. This Justifies Jay Jay Okocha winning it in 2003 and 2004 (I know Nigeria came out as 3rd).

As for Kotongo, he was the captain of the Zambia national team in AFCON 2012 and he scored 2 vital goals for them, he was outstanding during the 2012 nations cup, he was named player of the tournament. I mean there was no other player that really matched him and Yaya was not that outstanding in club football like he is now. Is Mikel our outstanding player in AFCON 2013? I don't think so, it was a team effort and if I was to pick a player that was really outstanding it was Emenike.

As for Andre Ayew, he scored 13 goals for Marseile in 2010/11 season helping them to 2nd place. He then continued that form in 2011/2012 scoring 16 goals. ( U can't deny that goals win u games and when u score goals u definitely get more points).

As for Gyan, Ghana lost to Egypt in AFCON final but Gyan was the player of the tournament. He scored 3 out of Ghana's 4 goals, he carried Ghana to the final. He continued that in the world cup scoring 3 goals. (Goals really does matter). He was the player of the tournament in 2010 AFCON, so a deserved winner. He also scored 13 goals for Sunderland in 2010/11 season.

This year, Yaya didn't perform well in AFCON, but Mikel was not the player of the tournament either and he scored 0 goals. .

I didnt say AFCON alone,i said NATIONAL TEAM performance THROUGHOUT the year.Remember confederations cup also favours mikel.
Emenike wasnt nominated.If he was,then we can argue about that.
And why are u judging by goals ??.
Mikel isnt a striker u wont expect
him to score goals at afcon like Gyan or Katongo.
Mikel didnt score at AFCON but he assisted 4 goals(Four assists).
Assists are as important as goals.
He performed outstandily well not only at AFCON but throughout d year for nigeria including the confederations cup.
If dey are to list the top ten best performers for national team not at afcon alone,but THROUGHOUT this year(From january to now) in Africa,i doubt Yaya toure would make the top 10,but definately Mikel would make the top 3,he might even be the number 1.
And Gyan NEVER was d best player at d 2010 afcon.He has never won the most valuable player award.
Egypts Ahmed Hassan was voted d player of the tournament at d 2010 Afcon.
And like i've said numerous times,those that won it in d past won it becos they had d highest no. Of votes NOT neccessarily that dey were d best performers that year.
And that will be d same dis yr.
All 5 have equal chances of winning it no matter how one player performed better than d other.
Becos at d end of d day,the player with d highest no. Of votes wins it and NOT neccessarily d best performer 4 either club or country or at AFCON.

But Katongo isnt really known outside africa,yet he won it over yaya.Abi ManCity and european fans were sleeping last year ??
Straight from the BBC voting page here is what was written:-

"The winner will be decided by AFRICAN FOOTBALL FANS, who have until 18:00 GMT on 25 November to vote for their choice"

Voting isnt opened to europeans or people outside Africa.
ManCity fans are few in africa COMPARED to chelsea fans.

Where did BBC say dat votes are counted BASED ON COUNTRY ??.
BBC never said this.
According to BBC "the player with the highest no. Of votes from fans wins it".
BBC's voting isnt d same as Big brother where it is counted based on country.
BBC even reveals the amount of votes each candidates got when d winner is being revealed.
Past winners had huge numbers like 200,000 votes,100,000 votes.
That shows dat d voting isn't done collectively by countries like d Big brother.
If 1 million nigerians vote for mikel,the 1 million votes will be counted and added to d rest of d votes 4rm other countries.
E.g if 1 million nigerians vote for mikel,
100,000 ghanaians vote for mikel
200,000 4rm d rest of africa vote for mikel.
Mikel's votes would be 1 million plus 100,000 plus 200,000
Total =1.3 million votes.
Thats how its done.And not d BBA method.

They never said d award is judged based on club performance,neither did dey say d award is judged based on national team performance.
So "Who deserves d award" is arguable.
If u think it should be on who performed best at club level,First of all go and complain to BBC about d past awards before u preach about "if yaya was a nigerian" or "How will u feel":-

I wish for Mikel to win it, but if Yaya was a Nigerian and the award goes to Mikel (assuming Mikel is not a Nigerian), how would u folks feel? Mikel is a very good player, but Yaya is superior. Yaya would walk into the first 11 of any team, u can't say that for Mikel.

And nobody ever said mikel is better than Yaya toure.
Yaya toure is better than Mikel.

Or Asheley cole's double blunder against westham in d EPL.Chelsea lost 3-1 and asheley cole was d cause of d two goals chelsea conceeded.They could have as well blamed ashley cole for chelsea's failure to win d EPL last season.
David Luiz was d cause a lot of goals chelsea conceeded last season,even 4rm d midfield position.They could have as well blamed Luiz for chelsea's failure to win d EPL.
Hazard's misplaced passes twice led to chelsea conceeding on two occasions last season,One against everton(2-1) and anoda.

Even ramires too,very few chelsea regulars didnt commit blunders last season,from goal-keeper to striker.

But its only in Mikel's case that it would be different.And its only his case they would single out.

Some people are just unbelievable !!!.

Nothing has been said for a long time now.Why ??.Becos 2 british players Terry and cahill play in his position.
And who is competing for places with mikel in chelsea's midfield ?.
An english player lampard.
Be sincere has lampard played well dis season compared to d few times mikel has played ??.No.
And even sincere british chelsea fans agree with this.I chat with many regularly.
Mikel's performance d few times he has played dis season has been multiple times better dan lampard.But the british media wouldnt sing out his case becos they know that mikel is a competition rival to their player in midfield.

These are unbias fans and not d bias british fans/media.
I belong to about 5 different chelsea blogs,consisting of chelsea fans worldwide.We discuss chelsea and majority of their views on mikel is that he shouldnt be sitting on d bench while lampard starts.I'll post a link on discussions by fans on some blogs about mikel if i can.To show u dat it isnt only nigerians that rate mikel as u're exaggerating.Even a lot of sincere british fans rate him.
In africa,outside naija too,he's got fans.

Last season there were 3 players that dominated this area, with Mikel Arteta joining both Yaya Toure and Michael Carrick in the top 3.

1st place – Mikel Arteta – 80.9 passes per game

2nd place – Yaya Toure – 78.9 passes per game

3rd place – Michael Carrick – 77.1 passes per game

4th place – Steven Gerrard – 66.3 passes per game

The gulf between 3rd and 4th shows how dominant the top 3 were in this area, and how key this particular statistic is to their game, but how does it shape up this season so far?

1st place – Yaya Toure – 81.9 passes per game

2nd place – Michael Carrick – 80.6 passes per game

Mikle is 2nd with 91%.
You might want to argue dat mikel plays only short passes.
But according to stats:-
Yaya toure average pass distance=17 meters
Mikel average pass distance=19 meters.

Im not sure if Europeans really vote.
Katongo is not popular outside of africa compared to yaya and drogba.
If europeans/british people really vote,yaya or drogba would have won it last year ahead of katongo,becos drogba and yaya are so popular and loved in europe,But katongo is only popular in africa.
Ayew wouldnt have won it in 2011 too,Yaya would have won it.
Ayew wasnt so popular in europe compared to yaya.

emma_best2000: NIG votes will be divided for two guys while all CIV votes will goes to one guy Yaya may win the award

The population of d whole of CIV is not the population of just lagos state.So even if all CIV vote for yaya and Nigeria's votes are divided between mikel and moses.
IF A LOT OF NIGERIANS VOTE,I dont think The votes 4rm CIV would still reach dat of either mikel or moses.
And 4rm what i've noticed,majority of nigerians are voting for only mikel.

nedu2000: BBC african player of d yr is a flawed award,previous winners like in 2004 when relegation battling okocha won it ahead of la liga battling samuel eto'o.....the CAF award is more credible so as for this BBC award mikel would likely win,since votes are cast even from the naive

The truth is neither club performance nor national team or AFCON is used to determine who wins it.Even if mikel scored 50goals at afcon or yaya scored 20 goals per match for mancity doesnt matter.
What matters is FAN-VOTES !!!.
The person that has d highest no. Of vote wins it.Whether he is a reserve player 4 his club or wether he plays for Warri-wolves doesnt matter here.

2012-Did Katongo deserve to win it ??.No.Yaya was d best performer at club level
2011-Did Ayew deserve to win it ??.No!.Yaya was d best performer at club level.He performed 10times better dan ayew at club level dat year.
2010-Did Gyan deserve to win it ??.No!!.Samuel etoo was the best performer at club level.Gyan won it becos of only his national team performance for ghana both at AFCON and at the Worldcup.

Katongo did well only at AFCOn after dat,he faded completely 4 both club and country.
Katongo was playing for a midtable team in d CHINESE LEAGUE !!!!!!.
This same Yaya toure was on fire last year,his last year's performance was 10times better dan dis year's.He won d EPL and yet Katongo won it ahead of him.
If Katongo could win it ahead of yaya last yr,then i see no reason why mikel cant win it dis year.
This is different 4rm CAF awards were only coaches votes.
This is determined by african fan-votes.Even my grandpa in d village can vote !!!!.

Mikel may never have another chance to be nominated, this is arguably his best year since the beginning of his career. As for me,i voted 10times for moses and 5times for mikel using different proxies and different browsers.
I think many people rate mikel over moses becos Mikel is a BIGGER player than moses,if u get what i mean.Mikel has been in d football game long ago before moses.
But personally,going by dis year i think moses deserves it more dan mikel.
To those saying mikel is more consistent than moses in d nigerian jersey,dats a big lie.
Since moses started playing for nigeria last year,moses has had only one bad game and dat was d last game against ethiopia.He has been incredible in every single game for nigeria aside 4rm dat ethiopia game alone and it was becos as a janded ajebutter,d altitude and weather was too strange 2 him.
But i can count series of matches dis year where mikel was anonymous and lost on d pitch.E.g:-
The 1-1 draw against kenya at calabar,the 1-1 draw against namibia,and some others.
Moses has been more consistent than mikel for nigeria.
But whoever wins it,i'll be happy as far as its a nigerian.

Even if d votes are divided between moses and mikel equally,i think one of dem should still win it,if a lot of nigerians vote. becos by far,we have d highest no Of population in africa and by far,d highest no. Of people dat use d internet in africa.
This case is different 4rm big brother.
I thought in big brother,all nigeria's votes,no matter d amount of people dat voted was equal to just one point.If so,then dis case is different.
I've posted it on my facebook and twitter pages so those dat didnt know about it would vote,and y'all should do d same.
