I've used from Android 2.2 to Android 8.1 and I'll say that navigation on all of the versions was pretty basic. Android users essentially had 3 navigation buttons and in some apps four. Now Google is looking to change all of that. It's definitely going to take some getting used to but don't worry you'll get used to it. On Android P, the home, back and multitasking button (God bless their souls ) will be replaced with a single pill-shaped button which is located at the bottom of the screen. The back button now appears contextually inside the apps and not as a fixed key that used to appear on every screen https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-vEERxieDNvo/WvO3gqMSiKI/AAAAAAAAMX4/ee6Tn8Ab6-EkNf2vTJtONwOwI-UIh_2IACHMYCw/s1600/%255BUNSET%255.gif Google unveiled some of the new features that are about to debut with the next version of Android. The search giant actually unveiled a slew of new features in Android P at Google I/O 2018. The new navigation gestures to switch between apps allows users to use gesture to navigate and switch between apps just like the iPhone X If you swipe up from the newly added button, you will get a new multitasking panel which shows most recent apps. If you swipe up once more, you will get the app drawer. Users just need to tap on the button to go back to the home screen. However, the swipe feature to switch between apps is replicated exactly like on the iPhone X. As soon as you release your finger, you will jump to the selected app. So, Google clearly ripped off the feature from the iPhone X where you can scroll between your open apps by sliding the new home button Apart from that there are a couple of other changes as well. Adaptive battery - Battery life improved considerably with the launch of Android Marshmallow and Google is looking to take it even further by integrating AI into the battery management app Quick Screenshot Editing. You can now take a screenshot and edit it immediately before saving or sharing. It has actually been a part of the customized Android ecosystem but it was not a stock android native feature until Android P. Lockdown: This is one of my best new features. Google added a feature that allows users to temporarily disable fingerprint security which means when lockdown is activated, only the password can be used to unlock the phone. So if I'm sleeping with my Android 9.0 phone, it's best you leave my fingers the hell alone. What are your thoughts on this? I'm still waiting for when Google will integrate something that actually helps when an Android phone is stolen. The default find my phone hardly works in countries like Nigeria where we tend to turn off our data when it's not in use. https://www.naijatechguy.com/2018/05/google-ditches-old-navigation-buttons.html |
Maxcollins042:I guess you meant a metered connection. Which windows are you using? |
Uzoezeamugo:Ipv4 has to do with the internet protocol version. Most devices run on Ipv4 as it's the most common. I don't think changing it to ipv6 will improve speed. |

Do you sometimes wonder why it seems your phone actually browses faster than your laptop that's connected to its Hotspot? The reason for this is simple - The bandwidth of the Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi Hotspots usually have 2 bandwidths on mobile devices - 2.4GHz and 5.0GHz. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-R-WFj-s-E1E/Wu5tb9iE-WI/AAAAAAAAMUw/i7FhRFZPWFclQ46J62SRg-LvAJIA6w5cACHMYCw/s1600/%255BUNSET%255.png I know by looking at both figures you've guessed that 5.0GHz will be the faster one. You're not wrong but there's actually a catch to it. It has do with physics - waves in particular. I'll try to explain it in a way you'll understand. 5GHz provides faster data rates at a shorter distance while 2.4GHz offers coverage for farther distances, but may perform at slower speeds. Range The main reason for this is that higher frequency signals cannot penetrate solid objects like walls and floors as well as lower frequency signals. Thus, the 2.4 GHz has a farther range than the 5 GHz frequency. Bandwidth Higher bandwidth means that files will download and upload faster, and high-bandwidth applications such as streaming video will perform much smoother and faster Higher frequencies increase transmission of data, also known as bandwidth. Therefore, the 5GHz with its higher bandwidth will provide much faster data connections than 2.4 GHz. Most devices only use the 2.4 GHz frequency, and these devices are all attempting to use the same “radio space” which can cause overcrowding of the channels. The 5GHz band has 23 available channels for devices to use vs the 3 available on the 2.4 GHz band. I can't really say if the 5.0GHz is available on all smartphones but if you're lucky to have it on your device. It's worth trying out. If you're having issues discovering the Wi-Fi on 5.0GHz switch back to 2.4GHz So, which should you choose, 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz? • If faster speeds are most important to you, 5GHz is usually a better choice than 2.4 GHz. • If the wireless range is more important to you, 2.4 GHz is usually a better choice than 5 GHz https://www.naijatechguy.com/2018/05/how-to-get-faster-browsing-speed-while.html |

As A Nigerian It’s frustrating to spend several thousands of money on a high-end smartphone only to find that the smooth and speedy performance you expected remains elusive. Mid-rangers and the budget end of the market are even more prone to stuttering and lag. There are various ways to speed up that Android performance, and a few things you can do to make it feel faster. ... 1. TURN OFF/REDUCE ANIMATIONS Imagine; You tap the home button but you get home before your phone does... Ahh! You can make your Android device feel snappier by reducing or turning off some of animations. You’ll need to enable Developer options in order to do this. Go to Settings > About phone and scroll down to the System section to look for Build number. Tap on it seven times and you should see a message about being a developer. You can now go back to the previous menu and you should see Developer options listed under System. Head in there and scroll down to find Window animation scale, Transition animation scale, and Animator duration scale. Tap each in turn and set it to .5x or off. Pick an option and find out what suits you, if you don’t like just go back in and change the values again. I personally have window animation turned off on my device. 2.TURN OFF AUTO-SYNC This causes a major lags on a some Chinese phones I've had access to.. Most of us end up adding a list of different accounts to our Android devices and we allow them to automatically sync in the background to pull in new data and provide us with updates. All this syncing has a big impact on performance, not to mention battery life. You could go to Settings and find Auto-sync under Accounts and just turn it off altogether, but that will be too drastic for most people. Instead why not just reduce the sync frequency and remove any accounts you don’t really need? For a lot of apps, like Facebook, you’ll need to open up the app and find the settings to reduce the sync frequency. 3.UNINSTALL AND DISABLE BLOATWARES/APPS BLOATWARES,, malwares? they eat up ram With time Bet, You certainly don’t want to allow apps that you never use to take up space on your device and potentially eat into system resources. Go to Settings > Apps and swipe over to the All tab. Take a good long look down the list and identify the apps you don’t want or need. If you’re in doubt about what any of them do then it’s time to hit Google and check. Now, tap on any app you don’t want and then choose Uninstall or, if the option is not there to uninstall, tap Disable. Disabled apps will be listed in a new tab, so you can always enable them again in future if you change your mind. You should also take a look in Settings > Apps at the Running tab. Some apps want to be running all the time and they can seriously impact on performance. Think carefully about whether you need what’s listed there. I personally don't keep apps I don't make use of especially, Facebook and Messenger jeez! Zuckerberg's Space mongers... I prefer Facebook lite or messenger lite.. I think you have to. 4.CLEAR CACHED APP DATA Cached data for apps should help them to load more quickly, but it can build up over time to take up quite a lot of space and there will potentially be cached data in there for apps that you no longer use. Sometimes clearing cached data for an app can also help clear up flaky behavior, Yes, especially on browsers. If you want to pick individual apps then head into Settings > Apps and slide over the All tab and tap on the relevant app then choose Clear cache. If you’ve decided to just clear the whole lot then go to Settings > Storage and tap on Cached data and then tap OK. 5.CLEAN UP YOUR HOME SCREEN [little or no widgets] If you choose to use live wallpaper then consider replacing it with a good static image. You should also clean away any unused icons and limit your widgets to the essentials. The less cluttered your home screen is, the better in terms of performance. Also do good to make use of static black background image like me.. 6.UPDATE! UPDATE!! UPDATE!!! The latest software will often contain bug fixes and general improvements and it can help your Android device to run better. Software updates tend to come OTA (Over The Air) and you should be automatically prompted to install them, but it doesn’t hurt to check. Go to Settings > About device > Software update and check for updates. But, update files can be so large..with little bug fixes. The same logic applies to apps, so fire up the Play Store, open the menu at the top left and tap My Apps and make sure all of the apps you use are up to date.. 7.FINALLY TRY A FACTORY RESET This is a drastic step,, I recommend that you do a factory reset periodically if you want your device running in tip-top condition. It’s a shortcut to cleaning up your device and getting rid of any junk you’ve accumulated, but it means wiping all of the data and settings. If you decide to try it then make sure you back up everything that’s important to you first. You can find the option to do it in Settings > Backup & reset > Factory data reset. BONUS TIP: Your device can be laggy because of too much processes running in background, even after attempting the above solutions. You’ll need to enable Developer options in order to do this. Go to Settings > About phone and scroll down to the System section to look for Build number. Tap on it seven times and you should see a message about being a developer. You can now go back to the previous menu and you should see Developer options listed under System. Head in there and scroll down to find Background Process Limit, Click and select > At most 2 processes or At most 3 processes. But, After a reboot it goes back to default,,, do the same process all over and enjoy flawless multitasking. Please comment other suggestions. Turn off background data or turn on your data saver if you're using Nougat |
greenhulk:I hope the headphone jack stays around for a while. I think Chinese brands simply want users to have an affordable version of Apple's device on a different OS. |
Gpik79:Samsung mostly takes a cue from Apple Software and Apple does the same to them. It does not necessarily have to be a hardware design issue. So it's usually about the two brands competing against each other |
HeWrites:Lol. Combining designs won't be bad for a start. They could take the iPhone X design and combine it with the Galaxy S9's design. |
