Data Subscription in different countries is usually different due to the economic conditions and operating costs of the Telecom Companies in each country. Airtel for example ,offers cheaper data services in its home country - India , than it does in Nigeria. In this post I collaborated with Dickson Otieno of Tech-Ish.com, a Kenyan Tech Blog. We'll be comparing the data plans in both countries and at the end we'll be calculating who spends more on data.


I believe this will let us know how much it costs citizens of both countries to access the internet and of course those who have enough data to waste on Twitter wars. If you are an active twitter user , you must have come across the #NigeriaVsKenya hashtag sometime. Well just in case you haven't brace yourself, it's about to get messy - Check a tweet with that hashtag -

Who spends more on data ?


For 1GB , Kenyans spend an average of 240-499 KES that's between N850- N1600 (for normal data plans)

Nigerians spend between N1000 - N1200 (KES 280 - KES 336 ) for 1GB and 1.5GB data plans


For 3GB - Kenyans spend between KES 499 - KES 999 that's between N1700 - N3400

Nigerians spend between N2000-N2500 .( KES- 560 - KES 700)

So It seems Kenyans actually spend more on data services. Nigerian Telcos are less expensive than their Kenyan counterparts. Of course , If there's an error in this post, feel free to let me know. Don't forget to tweet this and share as well.

Security in the Android Operating system is usually complicated and most times vulnerabilities are discovered.

I know iOS Fan boys will want to derail this post simply because they don' trust Google with their data. I hate to be the bad news carrier but "hey" I'm an Android lover so I won't feel remorseful -Your glorified iCloud uses Google Cloud Platform, as well as Amazon Web Service’s S3 storage service, to store encrypted chunks of an iPhone or iPad’s backed-up files, like contacts, calendars, photos, documents, and more. However,that's not the news right now so I'll go back straight to what this post is about.

Recently, 42 smartphone models have been identified to come with a bank trojan.

What is a bank trojan?


This is a seemingly harmless type of Trojan that can open communication ports on the devices where it is hosted. The banking trojan Android.Triada.231 was first identified in 2016 and manages to gain root on any Android device and then infect the Zygote process, which is the core of the Google Android operating system. This process is used to launch all applications on the system.

“Android.Triada.231 is one of the most dangerous trojans in the Android family.Triada. When the trojan inflicts this module, all running applications can also be infected. Once infected, apps become vulnerable and the target of malicious actions.



The “power” of this trojan allows hackers to inject Android.Triada.231 into the library libandroid_runtime.so which is part of the system, and in that way the malicious application can penetrate the firmware of the device during its manufacture.


After hackers access the device, they can steal bank data. The problem with this trojan is that its removal forces a reinstallation of the operating system. Russian anti-virus company Dr.Web reports that these smartphones have been sold worldwide.

Whatsapp has been running free for a very long time without providing any revenue stream for Facebook and we've all been wondering how Whatsapp makes money since there are no Ads.

I was actually a beta tester for Whatsapp Business way back before it was rolled out for use globally and I got to test a lot of features and monetization is something that may come to the app very soon based on the number of tests I conducted.

Although WhatsApp's policy has always been non-inclusion of ads, after cancelling the payment of the annual fee.

Now, it seems that a collaboration between Facebook and WhatsApp Business will start advertising on the platform. Although for now its format and characteristics are unknown.


WhatsApp has updated it's terms of service in the beta version of the Android application to add new details related to advertising.



Here is a fragment of the new advertising terms and conditions of the platform :-


“WhatsApp is working to find useful ways for our users to connect with companies on WhatsApp to receive information about orders, transactions and appointments, notifications of delivery and shipment, the update of products and services, marketing messages, listings of commercial directories to discover business on WhatsApp and other sponsored content/announcements of these companies”.

“During the next year, we will work with Facebook companies to do so. For example, you may see options on Facebook to start a conversation with a company on WhatsApp. If you use the Facebook Company Products, we will ask Facebook to use the information it has about you and your interests to help us provide you with a way to connect with companies in a relevant and personalized way through informative marketing messages, listings of business directories and other content/sponsored ads on WhatsApp.”



Now, does this mean that WhatsApp is getting ready to bombard us with ads?


At the moment, the only thing I'm sure about is that companies can send us advertising information, but the format or specific characteristics have not yet been defined at any point.

However, it still seems unlikely that they will begin to show ads in the application, but everything seems aimed at offering additional functions to WhatsApp Business to monetize the platform. At the moment there is no official confirmation from the company, so I guess we all will have to wait to learn more

Today almost everyone has an Android smartphone. These devices come with different specifications and in different sizes to suit each person's taste.

However, after six months of heavy usage, you'll notice a reduction in efficiency and performance .




There are many potential reasons that make smartphones to slow down after several months. So, in this post, I'm going to outline 5 common reasons which makes your phone to slow down after few months of usage.


1) OS Upgrades

Normally, Google releases updates annually and the latest version is Oreo ( I'm guessing the next version would be android pudding �).

Remember, when you first bought your phone, it might be running Android Marshmallow before you get an Upgrade notification. These upgrades are released with a certain set of hardware specs in mind.


This year, smartphone specifications have drastically improved. Many features have been added in the Android OS. However, these features are made with newer hardware specs in mind. So, there is a chance that if you are running the newer version of any operating system in an outdated phone then this can slow down your phone in no-time.

However, these upgrades are hard to ignore as it is for a Nigerian snake to avoid swallowing money.��

Minor updates are okay, but if you are planning to jump from Android Nougat to Oreo then be ready to face the difficulties.


2. App Updates
Facebook initially took just 35MB the first time I downloaded it , now with constant updates it's taking almost 300MB now .The so-called ‘lightweight’ apps that you install can transform to ‘heavyweight’ over the time. Developers are constantly pushing updates, every new update brings new features, which ends up using lots of RAM and CPU.
The best thing you can do is to once you feel the app is bloated, replace it with another light weight app.


3 Apps Running On The Background

Most times people tend to neglect background apps. Believe me or not, you have almost 80% more apps installed on your devices than when you first got it. Just go to your phone’s settings and have a brief look at all of your downloaded apps.

This problem arises when some apps keep running in the background without launching it. There are many apps like email services, messaging apps which are always active. These apps use CPU and RAM, which impacts negatively on your phone’s performance
.
So, make sure to disable or uninstall the apps which consume lots of RAM and CPU, switch to a static wallpaper and say goodbye to live wallpapers.


#4 Memory Degradation
Smartphones run on a flash memory, the most common type of flash memory is known as NAND. NAND memory gets slower as it fills up. In summary, NAND Memory usually requiresa certain amount of vacant blocks to operate efficiently.

Secondly, NAND memory degrades after some time of usage. NAND memory has three types- SLC, MLC, TLC each one of them has write cycle boundaries per memory cell. Once the limit is reached, the cells wear out and this affects the performance.

The best thing to do here is to stick with 75% of your device’s total storage capacity. For example, if you are having 16GB internal storage, don’t cross the 10GB threshold.
