Look at the dumb fish brains parading as ministers. So, according to the olodo fish brain, Nigeria does not have vehicle manufacturing? She does not even understand what vehicle manufacturing is all about. 1 Like |

Foolish old man. Disgusting hypocrite 🤮. He is praising noble men that allowed transparent elections in their countries yet he decided to use the most primitive campaign that bordered around ethnic profiling and hatred! He encouraged his supporters to always snatch and run with it and never play by the rules, yet he is here saying rubbish. Spit! 1 Like |

Soncare: First off, what do you intend to do in Vietnam? This is very important because just like the Middle East countries, there is nothing like street hustle here. Otherwise, you will eventually become stranded and frustrated. About return ticket, you can book a one way ticket with Qatar airways but it’s not advisable. They might not allow you to board or the Vietnamese immigration would stop you on arrival. So, just pay for a return ticket and simply cancel it on arrival. They will only deduct about $200 or so from it. |

While I agree with most of the things you said, I have some things to add. How did you get your TESOL/TEFL/CELTA? Was it online, in Nigeria or in Vietnam? Did you arrive with other vital documents I.e. Degree, IELTS band 7 or above, and police clearance all authenticated in Nigeria before traveling? While there is a preference for Whites which they disguise as native speakers, Blacks are still getting good offers. I did my TESOL certification in HCMC & will be traveling to Hanoi this night for authentication and then going to the school I just got a job contract from. Before I left Nigeria, the TESOL certification school assured me that job provision is part of the training I paid for. Before completing my training, they got the job for me. It comes with free accommodation and the pay isn’t much different than what they pay the so-called native speakers. The school will also process my WP. I think the reputation of the school I did my certification prompted the school to accept me, alongside the fact that I did a 2-minute video introduction as well as having complete documents. If Nigerians follow the right steps, it will make things easier for them. Andychinedu: 1 Like |

u3fine: God bless you for this input. Anyways, the agents here trying to disguise here will only end up embarrassing themselves. What you said are 100% facts. However, unfortunately, some African teachers don’t do the right thing by engaging reputable TESOL institutes before coming, instead they use agents and try to hustle through. The institute I used for my TESOL also promised to provide job at the end of my training and they’re already on it. I will be traveling to Hanoi on Sunday to validate my papers because a language school there said I have to provide it so they can commence my WP processing. It’s foolish to pay agent 2.5 million when that same amount can afford a one month training inclusive of accommodation and job placement. Na we Dey do ourselves sha. 2 Likes |

Ronaldoguy: When ignorant people talk with so much arrogance, I find it disgusting. There is nothing in Vietnam? Lol. Are Chinese people not crossing the border into US? So, there is nothing in China too? You claim to be in the United States yet your IQ is like that of someone who hasn’t stepped out of his village. Firstly, the official language here is Vietnamese but their government & private sector are investing heavily in English language education because they understand it would help them. Thousands of Westerners are leaving America, UK, Australia to teach in Vietnam, I guess they’re stupid to do that? We are 11 that came for the program in my set, I’m the only African & only Black, the rest came from the West. In District 1, there are probably more foreigners, particularly from USA/UK/Australia/Europe than locals, so if there is nothing in Vietnam, why are they all coming here? People from USA or UK can come to teach in Vietnam and find it rewarding enough (some even go to Cambodia that is lesser developed than Vietnam because they don’t have a degree), but you believe someone from a poor country like Nigeria won’t find it rewarding, doing same job those Whites are doing? Even when the Nigerian has the added advantage of doing business which those Whites can’t do? Do you even know what is called comparative advantage? You’re too dull abeg & must still be living in your village. 3 Likes |

I have seen lots of Nigerians stranded in Go Vap and district 2. They were deceived by agents about non existent factory jobs (such jobs are for the locals and some Nigerians that even managed to get them were later fished out). Their papers have all expired and they’re hopeless. You can’t even do such jobs with tourist visa and work permit is vetted before they grant it. I’m always deeply disturbed whenever I see them because they’re wasting away their youthful age. It’s after observing their situation that understood why some of them end up doing crimes despite knowing the severe penalties attached to it. I hated agents for destroying their future with false promises. It’s the same situation in many Middle East countries like UAE, Qatar, Bahrain and other places where agents deceived some Nigerians that they would be gainfully employed on arrival, just so they could get their money. Anyways, logical thinking people will always avoid such pitfalls while gullible ones end up as victims. 1 Like |

Entanglement: I will be in class today, hopefully I will remember to snap with the kids while holding a paper with your name written on it, maybe before or after my teaching. I’m not doing it to prove anything to you or anyone but to show how unreasonable you and some others have been. Then I will leave the thread for good. I didn’t create it for all these negative energy to ferment. I have enough BTA to last me until I start receiving my salary (which is even going to be higher than I expected). I can also be sending goods to Nigeria if I decide to increase my hustle. There are many Vietnamese goods one can send to Nigeria. 1 Like |

udofia234: You really need to be very careful so you don’t run from frying pan to furnace. On my trip to HCMC, I met an Igbo guy at Doha during our switch to another. He told me that there was nothing in Qatar 🇶🇦 for him to do. No hustles at all and that was why he is moving to Vietnam to try his luck. I told him that Vietnam isn’t much different from Qatar in terms of hustle as well, but he said at least he could be sending goods to Nigeria. All these Middle East countries is not worth it, especially if you’re going to hustle your way. Qatar, Dubai, Bahrain etc would frustrate you if you’re not careful. Many Nigerians in those places are currently stranded. 2 Likes |

Entanglement: It seems travel agents have ripped you off before and that’s why everyone is a travel agent in your eyes. If only some of you will apply common sense, you will see that I have been encouraging people to do it themselves and not use agent. Why will a travel agent advise people to do it themselves? I almost went to class late this morning because I was trying to make this post quickly before going to training. Anyways, smart ones will key in while others are shouting agents. 7 Likes 1 Share |

KashApp: Honestly, there are many reasons why Vietnam is a beautiful country to visit. They love foreigners and are always friendly and helpful. They get excited whenever they see Black person and try to get into conversation with you, especially if you smile back at them. Most of them speak little or no English. But it doesn’t stop them from saying hello. The cost of living here is very cheap and that’s why lots of Westerners are going there to enjoy themselves. 2 Likes |

For those that might be interested in teaching ESL in Vietnam, below are the prerequisites you must have in place: 1. A university degree. 2. IELTS (with a minimum score of band 7). 3. A TESOL or CELTA certification. 4. Police clearance. In addition to all that, you should be able to speak and write English fluently. I’m surprised that there seem to be more South Africans and even Ghanaians working as ESL teachers in South East Asia than Nigerians, despite our huge population and English being our Lingua Franca. 6 Likes 1 Share |

verminnel: No, I don’t think getting a Vietnamese visa is difficult. You can easily apply online for the 90-day E-visa. But you need to have a back up link. Your priority is how to maximize that 90-day allowance so you could get a job and the accompanying work visa. Otherwise, you would have to do a visa run to the neighboring countries and return again. It can be costly and stressful as well. 1 Like |

Ronaldoguy: Is this willful ignorance or just tomfoolery? Anyways, you need to read again to understand what the post is all about. To help you, I specifically mentioned Nigerians going to do ESL teaching or digital nomad! Anything aside that might be suicidal for Nigerians in Vietnam. I have seen lots of Nigerians who are stranded here and they were probably deceived by agents. You will see some of them hanging around some African restaurants that are owned by Igbos. They usually beg me for money whenever I go to eat and I give them if I have. You can do menial jobs in advanced countries and still make money for investments back home. They have hard currency and they lack citizens to do those undesirable jobs, unlike developing countries where there are enough citizens ready to do such menial jobs. Be guided! 10 Likes 1 Share |

tensazangetsu20: At the part I highlighted in the first paragraph, you’re quite right. Getting permanent residency in Canada is a top priority for those going there to study. However, there are also some cons with living in Canada or some other developed countries. The frenetic work pace and working more shifts to keep pace with living standards doesn’t appeal to everyone. Teaching English in those Latin American countries you listed can’t be compared with South East Asia. It’s never as lucrative in terms of salary, acceptance by the locals and other economic prospects like export of goods. Also, the cost of living in South East Asia, particularly Vietnam is quite low yet you get high value for your money. You can get a nice furnished one room for just $200 monthly. Internet is cheap and most public places have free Wi-Fi. Food is dirt cheap and so is transportation. Yet you earn higher than those in Latin America. Being a teacher with experience and having the certifications can open doors to other countries as well. I don’t even intend to stay in Vietnam for long, it’s a periodic adventure for me. 23 Likes 2 Shares |

Aside the certificate you will get from the school which has become a prerequisite anyway, you will enjoy lots of fun. I have had more fun in just a few weeks after my arrival than I have had since over a year! The Americans sure know how to maximize fun activities. We have been to clubs, bars, restaurants, karaokes etc. The school even hosted a surprise birthday party for me! I didn’t know they took note of my birthday on the forms I filled and after class, they organized a surprise birthday for me. My fellow trainees also took me out to a Korean restaurant in the evening. It was all fun & everyone related well with each other. 2 Likes |
