Last limo ride for Kenya ministers

In Summary

* Officials are to give up fuel guzzlers for the more economical ones from Wednesday

By KENNETH OGOSIA Posted Tuesday, October 27 2009 at 22:00

Ministers and Permanent Secretaries are set to surrender vehicles with over 1800cc on Wednesday as they receive new ones with lower engine capacities.

The Ministry of Finance on Tuesday announced that 129 new vehicles are with the dealers and ministers, their assistants and PSs will get them while they give back the fuel guzzling limousines.

“The chief mechanical and transport engineer will keep the returned vehicles , and by so doing the new policy will start being operational today,” Chairman of the transport task force in Treasury, Donald Kibera told the Daily Nation.

He said the officials are to limit themselves to one vehicle each but added that service delivery will not be hampered if there was need for further consultations.

Top of the range

However, the new policy will not affect the transport allocations of the President, Prime Minister and Vice President. They will continue using top of the range vehicles complete with a motorcade and security chase cars.

The task force has drafted a transport policy that will impose strict measures on the use of government vehicles if passed by the Cabinet. So far about 2,000 vehicles have been surrendered at the district and provincial levels.

Some 500 GK vehicles have been sold and about 720 serviceable ones distributed to various departments especially provincial administrators and Administration police in remote areas.

“Since the Grand Coalition Government was formed transport expenditure has shot up to over Sh4 billion. This is going to come down and funds spread to needy services such as drought, famine, health and education,” Mr Kibera said.

So far only the National Assembly has officially written to Finance Minister expressing their willingness to surrender vehicles including two belonging to Speaker Kenneth Marende and his deputy Farah Maalim.
CultureRe: What Is It With Ibo Girls And Isiewu? by naliakar: 3:52am On Nov 02, 2009
Of isiewu and dignity of Igbo women. Something is surely wrong with women who singularly acquiesce to anybody carrying isiewu regardless the bent of their character. Igbo ladies are more sophisticated than that and certainly more beautiful in body soul and mind.Beside, if Yoruba men knew that was the trick, they would be falling head over heels carrying isiewu to the Igbo ladies whom they adore but are unable to seduce and control. Do not degrade my sisters that much as this thread seems to do.

Priceless comedy. So Nigerian senators hold the secret to the Nobel Prize all along. Might they have helped POTUS to win his. Two of my neighbours had a fight over land and I successfully brought them to a joint table and we had dinner together. Someone should forward my name to the senators I beg.

i still think they should model the movie after "Saving Private Ryan"
that movie was great and filled with so much detail!
everything was graphic and real and helped you to get the real idea of WWII
it was cool.
this movie should be like that.
Need awesome corporate backing to do that. besides Saving Private Ryan had strong moral point to it which made it more captivating. The Biafran movie may as well have a perspective that will equally endear it to the audience. A lot depends on the point of view of the producer/director and the hope is that (h)he strikes the right tone and message.

Unless i forget there has been a Hollywood film on Biafra starring Bruce Willis among others. What was the name again?
TV/MoviesRe: Biafran War Epic Movie To Cost $10m by naliakar: 2:19am On Nov 02, 2009
Worth looking forward to. Jim Iyke would fit the role of Ojukwu just fine although Emeka Ike might just as well. Arinze would play Obasanjo pretty well interchangeably with kanayo kanayo. It would be good to elevate our good actors to a level beyond campus love stories and general debauchery which have become the trite template of Nollywood.

the Biafran story is a Nigerian story, indeed an African story and certainly not a singularly Igbo story. Which is why all should be happy at the prospect.

Well, Naliakar and the like, keep puking hate against Kenya while your economies (without oil) are in a perpetual crisis. your governments are something to laugh about and your societies pretty much rotten. After all, why look at your own shit when its easier to look at the others? Like this you don't feel such a failure I suppose. angry

A constructive critic, Yes. Just to throw visceral and unlogical reason, Not. angry
Easy! Easy! Mwanmwiwa. With such beautiful photos, criticism is the last distraction you wish for. Now that you are in western Kenya, do show us how beautiful Africa's largest Lake is. I understand it has beautiful features and pristine islands. I also know about strange rock formations that I never quite got to see. Do not forget these. One thing you will realize is that this thread is visited quite often and criticism is just as fine as it is informative.

Well, Ini Edo is equally good. Give her her due. And there is this thing about her height which has some grace in it. She is a real African beauty. If you are a man, you will not help being charmed by Ini's eyes and a well structured nose, both in addition to her acting. The girl is good

Wow. For once I am wowed by the Mara pictures. What a beauty? I never quite got to visit the Mara. Even POTUS Obama, an American beat me to that from the accounts of his Dreams of My Father memoir which I am currently enjoy reading.

One thing that beats me about the Mara is that it is famous for something other than her own wonders. I understand that without the Serengeti, there would be no Mara. The wildebeests that create a spectacle every year they migrate are actually Tanzanian. Why is it that Kenyans are the ones reaping from these creatures and not Tanzania. Something fishy here.

I understand that the same scenario plays out with Mt Kilimanjaro. Tourists who wish to visit Africa's highest peak go to Kenya instead of Tanzania where Kilimanjaro is actually located. What is it with Kenyans: reaping where they do not sow.

when most people talk about complextion they are talking about skin color.
in this case you were describing PHYSICAL appearance or physically beauty.
therefore we have reason to believe you were talking about her skin color.
be wise with your words. choose carefully.

as for Tonto? na wa oooooooooooooo
she cant even come close!!! stop yarning oooo.
thats why Hollywood rejected her ass. lolol
if she was so "superior" to the rest, her ass would be in Hollywood by now.
there are 15+ actresses that can pass tonto anyday, anytime.
youre right
This order is mine and so has a bias although my judgement approximates that of a connoisseur of Nollywood. Of the ladies

1. Stella Damasus
2. Tonto
3. Omo
4. Gene & Ini
5. Patience
6. Ngozi
7.Chioma Chuk,
8. Rita
9. Stephanie
10. Kate
11. Mercy

All are good. But I choose  movies based on this hierarchy.

You tire me ooh. I sabi Gene has real defenders here. Let me modify my utterance and if the initial diction be seen to implicate racist mien, I take it back pronto. Both actors are beautiful and capable and IJE will be a great watch because it has the alchemy of two professionals. Omo is brings a lot to it though. That is all I am saying and I hope you righteous gatekeepers to Gene's assumed unassailable status in Nollywood will let it lie.

And Omo has the quintessential African shape. God what a beauty. And above all she speaks plainly, no faking. Real original African queen. I will watch it just because she acts in it. 9ja should be proud to have Omo as her public image. God!!

You are a fool. How can somebody be more superior in complexion? . Black people and their inferiority complex over skin colour don tire me.huh huh
Where were you taught that superior complexion means color. Boko Haram graduates never cease to amaze. Complexion can be inflected variously and here I use it to mean radiance and Omo exudes that a lot more. For your info. radiance is the sum total of many factors.
TV/MoviesRe: Genevieve And Omotola To Co-Star In A New Movie (IJE) by naliakar: 12:13am On Oct 30, 2009
Great. But what rivalry are you talking about? The two are not equal in beauty and talent. Although my cradle brings me closer to Gene, I must admit that Omo is far more superior in build, shape, complexion and beauty. You rarely get that combination in the west. But there she is for you. I think Gene's beauty and acting are hyped.

But that movie will be good to watch if only to create a common ground on which to continue comparing two people who should never be compared.

In Nollywood now, Tonto remains the best actor. If you watch her acting, the girl knows how to get in character and animate it well. She is far more superior in acting quality above all the rest of the ladies, these two included.

great photos.

Nigeria may not have wildebeests but we do have race and golf courses.

Our female golfers are world reknowned, I think wink I could be wrong though- havent checked the news for a while.

Runda and bandari estates look like some parts of naija too.
This is what i have been telling them. One would think that those residential estates are modeled on Ikoyi. Kenyans rarely go golfing. They prefer the tracks. The golf courses you see there are patronized mostly by the unusually large expatriate community there.

Great and thanks for the Tea Hotel shots. Na wa oo!!
Now that you have headed to the race course, you may wish to look around for pictures of the Concours d'Elegance, an event I always attend if it coincides with my Nairobi visit. It is quite an event and takes place, I believe at the race course. You may adorn this thread with pictures of this show of mo-beauty. We Nigerians love beautiful things and Nairobi's Concours d'Elegance comes closer to what Seun and I trust, my other Enugu friends are used to here in 9ja East.

hi all, I wish to thank all those Kenyans who have done a great of show casing Nairobi to all, a picture is worth a thousand words, and it has been hilarious for me to read and follow this forum, Guys Nairobi is a great place, need I say more, I am a Kenyan Damu
Do not be fooled. You should have said "See Nairaland is a great site. It affords Kenyans the opportunity to show case their miniature of a city. Nigerians are truly big hearted" That is what you should have said because without a 9ja site Kenyans would have nowhere to showcase their toddling wares. Sometimes I think all Kenyans are a fraud which is why they have two presidents running one country.

In one of the pictures just posted by Mwanamwiwa I saw zebras grazing next to residential buildings and I asked myself "You mean there are no hunters in Nairobi? And why do they hate bush meat that much that Zebras and ostriches carry the gauntlet right to their doorstep?' Like tpia and Dis-guy attested, those animals wil do such thing in Naija at their peril.

Controversy hits Stars vs Nigeria match

In Summary

* KFF say they are in charge of qualifier as rival body refuses to give up control

The Kenya Football Federation on Friday moved to take control of Harambee Stars’ crucial Sh17-million-shilling World Cup qualifier against Nigeria’s Super Eagles next month naming a three-man local coaching panel to pick Kenya’s squad for the November 14 game.

In a move that re-ignites the ceaseless power battle over the control of the game in Kenya, KFF chairman Sam Nyamweya sought his team’s strength from the recent Vimal Shah report on the management of football in Kenya that, inter alia, says that KFF’s rivals FKL was improperly constituted.

The KFF chairman was categorical that the time had come for the national team to be taken seriously, saying that the national head coach, Antoine Hey, had done nothing but fail the country.

“This man (Hey) has really failed us. We now are the laughing stock among many. I just don’t know what he has been doing here. He is always in Germany,” lamented Nyamweya.

“Something had to be done and that’s why we have decided to have three local coaches under the leadership of Ricky Solomon to work on an interim basis and name a team that will report to camp soon for the upcoming match. Plans are also at an advanced stage to print tickets for the match.”

But in a quick reaction, Football Kenya Limited senior vice chairman, Titus Kasuve, termed KFF’s action “a move in futility” saying this (Kenya versus Nigeria) was a Fifa accredited match and only FKL, the recognised federation in the country, were authorised to run it.

“I just don’t want to talk about this issue. I mean, who will ever listen to them (KFF)?” posed Kasuve.

“The match belonged to Fifa and FKL as the local organising federation.”

More than Sh17 million is expected to be raised during the November 14 World Cup/African Cup of Nations qualifier at the Moi International Sports Centre.

According to a Sports Stadia Management Board official, who did not wish to be named, the three-tier Moi International Sports Centre can accommodate up to 60,000 fans.

The lower level, which has a capacity for 20,000, can fetch Sh6 million in gate takings, assuming each fan pays the regular Sh300, while the VIP section has a carrying capacity of 10,000 fans. And with each fan parting with Sh500, the section can fetch up to Sh5 million.

The upper section, which is the largest, enjoys a capacity of 30,000 and can fetch Sh6 million if each fan pays the traditional Sh200.

There is little doubt that the November 14 game will draw a full house given the pedigree of the away team that boasts big names such as English Premiership stars Kanu Nwankwo (Portsmouth), Yakubu Ayiegbeni, Joseph Yobo (Everton) and other well established professionals.

KFF is also looking to control the hosting of this year’s Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations’ (Cecafa) Challenge Cup slated for November 28 to December 13, in Kenya.

“We will communicate with the Cecafa secretariat regarding this matter and see how well we can work it out. We want to improve the state of our football and see to it that talent in this country isn’t wasted,” the chairman added.

But Cecafa secretary Nicholas Musonye on Thursday said Cecafa takes charge of all its competitions.

“We don’t want unnecessary confusion in Cecafa. I have said it before and I will repeat now that the Challenge Cup, Kagame Cup, Under-20, Under-17 and women’s tournament all belong to Cecafa - we will not tolerate any inteference,” Musonye said.

And while all the hullabaloo over who controls the November 14 match lingers on, Harambee Stars’ preparations for next month’s make-or-break match get under way this Sunday when 17 players report to camp at Kasarani.

Five local players have been included in this final match against Nigeria in the World Cup/African Cup of Nations qualifiers, a must win for Kenya.

Kenyan Premier League’s top scorer, John Baraza of Sofapaka (12 goals), Abdi Simba (Sofapaka), Jerry Santos (Tusker), Fred Ajwang (Tusker) and Ibrahim Kitawi (Gor Mahia) will fight for a place on the national team.

A Beleaguered Hey is expected back in the country by Sunday afternoon.

Until it is proven otherwise, it is fair to argue that with the large Nigerian population in Ghana, there is a fifty fifty chance half those players owe their dazzle to Naija lienage. Even Ghanaians in Accra cannot believe they have done it. To them it is a miracle. it only in Naija where such feats are normal.

I have traveled widely in Nigeri and I can assure you that from Sokoto to Yobe and Borno: from Akwa Ibom to Ogun and nowhere do they prize game meat. For your info it is a testimony to Naija's love of animals that our Elephants are way bigger than the ones you find in Kenya or Southern Africa and our Giraffes even taller.
