Half time. . . Very tight match. Pompey closing down all chances. Decent half anyway with 5 shots on Goal. Seems like on of those matches where the deadlock by the individual brilliance of someone.

Second half approaching. Didn't see the bench. . don't know if Lamps is on the bench. He can come on . . take Malouda off and let lamps play as a second striker. . . ok,  on paper it sounds like rubbish but tactically I think it makes some sense. After all we don't have anyone around that can play the second striker role. . not even pizzarro.

What ever it is. . . . .
We have to pick up the vital 3 points.  Spurs' taken the lead at white hart lane.

Ti's another day in the premiership. . this time against the high flying portsmouth and team of former colleague of Avram Grant.

Two changes to the side that played midweek. Ashley Cole comes in for Bridge and Belletti comes back after his midweek suspension. After an Arsenal win and ManU with a high possibility of a win. . taking three points becomes absolutely inevitable.

Live from Fratton park , It's Portsmouth V Chelsea.

@ nateevs,

Its a landmark victory for Avram Grant. . . . .
75 matches unbeaten at Stamford Bridge.
After 30 games, Grant has the same record as Jose "LOUD MOUTH" Mourinho(P30 W23 D5 L2) shocked shocked shocked shocked
Whats more? He just equalled Jose's record of 9 league victories on the BOUNCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All these done without TERRY, LAMPARD, DROGBA, ESSIEN, MIKEL and ASHLEY COLE . . . . .
I believe Grant is the most under-rated manager in the Premiership . . . .
Why do i have a feeling Grant will displace Arsenal and finish 2nd by May 2008? cheesy cheesy cheesy
Blimey . . . . .Why not? Arsenal, Liverpool and Man Utd still have to go to Stamford Bridge to play Chelsea. tongue tongue tongue
I agree very well man. . . He's done particularly well. . . The boys seem very happy playing for him . . . I was one of those that criticised him when he took over. . who won't? Several matches after I must say he has done a very good job . even without very crucial players. He's looked out in the Jan transfer window and brought in someone that fits the current system. . he's not bought unecessary players because he has much to spend.

Even though some still have a lot to say about the players still being Jose's players with Jose's system. . . I think he is wise enough to know that Jose's formula was a winning formula. He retained the formula. . . injected forward and expressive play. . . and still keeps the defense water tight.

He's done well . . he's done very well. . I hope he carries this into the champions league. I expect to see more.

Another 3 points earned. Maintaining the 4-point gap. Breathing seriously on their behinds. Good performance from the boys. Bring it on Portsmouth!!!!!

75 Matches unbeaten at home. Y'all don't have a clue. The premiership is blue.

We are back . . at the fortress.

It's a different team of course with the return of Michael Ballack. Also, Ferreira replaces the suspended Belletti in defense. That makes just 2 changes to the side that beat Wigan.

Defending another unbeaten match at home but more important keeping the 4 point distance intact will be another good achievement in this good run of Avram Grant.

It's about to kich off now. here we go.

ritchboy:
look @ your last post?isnt it ridiculous?how old was fabregas when he left barca?ARE YOU AWARE iniesta is 3 YEARS OLDER than fabregas?or do you expect a 15 year old fabregas to be rated higher than an 18 year old iniesta?damn,xavi is old enough to be his grand dad grin.and iniesta being picked ahead of fab4 doesnt necessarily mean he is a better player.take sagna and diarra for example.diarra was being picked for france ahead of sagna but couldnt hold down a place on the bench for arsenal because of the same sagna.do the math.
Now you are going against your initial point. You said it is not about age but present class. So where do you stand . .age or class?
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Manchester United Fan thread: Forever Reds by nateevs(m): 4:05pm On Jan 29, 2008
@Eldee,

Based on the bone of contention. . it's all about who will make the team. Valid point.

Now. . away from the argument my choice will be Paul Scholes. . I watched this guy come in on saturday and his first touch was a 30 yarder to pick out rooney. The class is still there. Sorry mate.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Manchester United Fan thread: Forever Reds by nateevs(m): 3:57pm On Jan 29, 2008
@Ritchie

I never for once misunderstood the "IS" and I fully understand what it means. My argument is just that IS can only be used when all factors for comparism are at par. In this case , the factors will be, exerience, number of games etc

They really don't have to be the same age but an age range is a good way to start, the same applies to experience and number of games.

So as much as I understand the "IS". I find it funny to want to compare them both. My point is there's no basis.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Manchester United Fan thread: Forever Reds by nateevs(m): 3:44pm On Jan 29, 2008
eldee:
@nateevs
let me explain this to you
if u was some good manager under a super russian billionaire
and u were given a blank check to sign one player between scholes, jayjay and Fab4
who would you sign first and why?
Eldee, I fully understand you and where you stand. To answer your question I will sign Fab. Reason . . because he is younger and meets the present footablling requirements

What I am just trying to say is that I will sign him because he is younger not because he is better. To say that he is better is holistic. . . . you can't make such comparism just because we are talking about present form.  It's like saying Djiskstra is more intelligent than Isaac Newton. . .

Such kind of comparism becomes difficult to justify.

Talking about youthfulness, pace and spontaneous brilliance over the season you will choose Fab. . but not primarily because he is better but because he is younger,  . . At the same time If I had, as a manger, a stalemate in a champions league final for example . . extra time I'll put Scholes because he's got the experience of playing in finals, he won trophies and he knows just aw to play in a final when the utmost performance and discipline is desired. .

So aw do we compare the both?. . . My simple point is . . you don't do it.

@nateevs,
scholes is GREATER than fabregas no doubt,but when we are trying to determine who the BETTER player is we look @ how good they are NOW and not how good they used to be or what theyve achieved in their careers.and that is why FABREGAS IS A BETTER PLAYER THAN SCHOLES AND OKOCHA.
Oh !!! Really. . . Well let's just say Fab's BETTER than Maradona then since past achievement have nothing to do with it.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Manchester United Fan thread: Forever Reds by nateevs(m): 2:55pm On Jan 29, 2008
eldee:
i'm not gon be as bias as ritchboy but like i said
head for head there little difference between the players of both teams

@nateevs
no sentiments in football
henry scored over two hundred goals in arsenal but hes crap at barca
whose business?
scholes is too old to be a top dawg now
he has depreciated, ferguson did not spend 50 mill on midfielders for nuffin
I do understand your stand in the head to head comparism. I am just trying to alert us to inject some respect into football so that we don't have someone thinking Fabregas is better than Okocha.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Manchester United Fan thread: Forever Reds by nateevs(m): 2:42pm On Jan 29, 2008
I am not into the business of comparing Fabregas with Paul Scholes. . present form or whatever. Fab and Anderson fall into the same category of comparism. . but with scholes . . now way. . as well as Giggs with Rosicky. Let's choose someone else.

The guy (Scholes) will be 34 in November over 500 caps for a team he's played for all his life and even at 34 any team in the premieship will gladly welcome him to their 11. Well if it's possible to imagine Fabregas at 34 then I can make a direct comparism with Scholes. . . if not I don' think it's worth the comparism.
