Part of being smart while solving math related problem is by understanding what should best be deployed at different instances.
Observe the set quadratic equation carefully and tell me if it would make sense to deploy the completing the square method or factorisation method.

If the LHS of a given equation is not factorisable, and the coefficients of the x² and x terms will not make completing the square convenient, that leaves the quadratic formula as the best method to use in these cases.

On Tuesday morning, April 23rd, 2024, was set for my UTME examination. My center was close to my house, so at 6:20 am, I came out from the house hoping to catch an auto rickshaw . I left with my ATM card, ID card and my JAMB examination photo card. On getting to the junction, I observed there was no auto rickshaw, so I had to run down to the road before I was able to see a vehicle. I appreciated the running because it was an opportunity for me to do some exercise, which people had been advising me to take because of my sedentary nature due to work.

When I got to the center, it was not very crowded as I thought. I proceeded to the queue, and a man asked me if I could have my phone. I said no. After the thumb printing, we went further to the hall to sit down. Although there were not enough chairs the People organizing it were kind enough to release their chairs to students to sit down. I applaud them for that.

As I was about entered the main hall for the computers, it was advocated that ID card and ATM cards was not allowed, that it was part of the rules sent to us, so I had to go down and check for one of my fellow proprietors I saw around and I gave him my items so that I could pick them up when I'm done with the exam. I really appreciated that

I began with English, I was trying to navigate to find where to shortcut to transit it to mathematics, but I was unable to find a way out (maybe I it isa available but I don't know how to navigate it,but I later found out that I can move to the next by selecting the last question of the subject and clicking on next, this was when I was stuffing through the system in my third subject) The computer screen was not as big as I expected, so scrolling up and down was challenging. In the English section, I went to choose Hakini instead of Hakini because I didn't read the novel, I only listen to the audiobook,. I checked it up later, and it was Hakimi not Hakini, I failed that question, so UTME student sould listen and read the novel to be able to identify correct spellings as it is one of the aspect to be tested as outlined out in the English syllabus

Next was physics the physics was ok , *Next Mathematics I did well in this, except for a question asking to find the area of a triangle, given the angle between the two sides 40° which formula was 0.5 * a * b * sin 40°. It was unfortunate that 40° is not part of special angles. I was racking my brain on how to solve this. I know the sine of 30° and sin 60 = 0.8660, The option to the question was have same whole number with only a difference in the second decimal place, . This was the challenge was a challenge to identify the correct option. JAMB should stick to the agreement set questions using special angles only and if they are to go variant the options should be distinct son that a student should obviously be able to choose the correct option with knowledge of special angles and trigonometry graph visualization,
There was a question in my mathematics binary operation using LCM, I applaud JAMB for that question whoever set question is very smart, after solving it I smiled.

After my mathematics I was left with about 12 minutes for chemistry maybe I fell in love with the mathematics questions trying to look at the reason why each questions was set, well it was fun.

When I saw I have just 12 minutes remaining for chemistry I know this is not the time to start calculation in the chemistry I hurried move through the questions to find the ones can easily I identify the answer I click on then why the others I just used possible elimination to choice a possible answer

Mathematics around 98±2
English around 85±10
Physics around 89±8
Chemistry around 70±10
Total around 330 to 360

For the record I applied for BCE Mathematics I might go and study the course but I would have prefarerd Mathematics and Artificial intelligence but no school in Nigeria is offering it.

The only people that can legitimately afford to enrol their kids in this school at 43million per term are successful industry owners, entrepreneurs and executives like the likes of Aliko Dangote, Obi Jackson, Innoson Motors owner, Tony Elumelu, Leo Stan Ekeh, Femi Otedola, etc, etc.


Any civil servants who enrols his child in this school should be investigated and probed.

This shows you the kind of rot in the system. Examination questions were not previewed before students were asked to write it. Such a shame . Don't even let us go to the standard of the useless questions.

This is Moodle platform and the lecturers do not know how to use the platform to key-in questions , particularly those with Mathematical functions. The level of tech deployment in a school like Unilag is horrendous. I can help upgrade the tech or teach the lecturers if they can pay. Such a shame!

I went for a teaching interview yesterday, they asked us to prepare a lesson plan and also a lesson note on any topic of our area of specialization.

I haven't even taught before and I have no experience as a teacher, but I made some researches and studied extensively on a particular area of my niche and wrote well.
There wasn't really any micro teaching but I was asked to write on a board, I wrote the subject, the topic and the date, the principal said it's OK.

She now asked challenges affecting schools, how I can help a school grow revenue, my success story in my previous teaching experience and lastly salary.
I sha answered them but when they discussed the issue of salary I told them I am after 30k since it's a growing school, they now told me my subject area isn't vacant if I can teach economics, computer and geography, I obliged.

They said they'll get back to me but she refused scoring me till I left the scene cos my eyes were fixed on those score results on her desk.
So I don't know if I made it in the interview.
How do I know if I was successful?
I Just pray I get the job to at least start something with cos it's not funny sitting jobless at home

When next you go for an interview and they ask if you can take multiple subjects, simply say NO. Moreover, don't settle for 30k. Are you in Lagos ?

Their non availability should not deter him from delivering his lessons as though these items have been provided. Remember that micro teaching is nothing but a miniature classroom simulation. Its not a real classroom setup, so the resources used can also be unreal. But then again, he can go ahead and play safe with a topic that requires no physical resources. The disadvantage of this method is that he would have no edge over the others.

I do not expect the school to avail him these items. Its left for op to creatively simulate a standard class for his lessons, creating an assumption that these items are there. Peradventure, the school avails him these items, I do not expect him to use up to a minute to set up. What this approach would showcase is his versatility as a teacher, his ability to carry his students along and ability to adopt an activity-based teaching approach, which is the paradigm that most schools adopt or are looking to adopt in teaching.

The probability that these items may not be available is the reason why he needs to pick a topic that would not require a laboratory set up.

My previous post about a big school that called me for an Interview, Well I actually went there, did my test and when I was asked to come in for Micro Teaching where I was faced with Staff of the school and maybe the principal, I flopped and panicked heavily.

The fear was well written all over my face and I was just saying rubbish despite choosing to teach "Matter" as my topic. Immediately I came in and they asked for my name and few other questions before the micro teaching, my voice was already shaking as if I have never taught before in my life(they noticed and told me to calm down).

Although I am an introvert, I hardly face audience talk more of strangers and the quest to ensure that I performed, those things enveloped/swallowed me completely. I have never taught in such a big school before, I think my qualification was what made them approach me in the first place.

One of the staff kept throwing questions at me, I mean confusing questions just to know my depth of knowledge in the particular topic, and guess what? I flopped totally and became disorganized. But luckily, there was a man among the panel who gave me the option of coming back and prove myself that I am a qualified teacher as stated in my CV or I should take another topic I'm more comfortable with. So, I opted to leave and come back so I can regain my confidence.

Now, I have been given enough time to go and make research and convince them on Monday.
How do I conquer that fear and what are the things they look so I can prepare hard.

You need to understand that the aim of micro teaching for an interview is not for you to prove your knowledge of a subject matter solely, but to show your proficiency in teaching. I would advise that you choose just one of these topics and perfect the art of teaching it. You should possibly work out some instructional materials for your students. For instance if your take is on acid, base and salt, you should consider making it a practical class. Set up your class with samples of acid base and salt and of course your litmus paper. Briefly discuss what acids and base are by their reaction on a litmus paper, then go ahead and ask your students to test the specimens before them with a litmus paper. Let them tell you their observation and conclusion based on the change on the litmus paper.... you should basically make your class interactive and practical- based.

Do not forget to clearly state your objectives before the actual teaching begins. For instance: At the end of class today, I expect you to know the properties of acids, base and salt and their reaction on a litmus paper.




Note that there is a paradigm shift in teaching today. You don't tell your students for them to know. You show them what you want to tell them for them to know. I hope this helps.

Like you said, Micro teaching is not about showing your knowledge of the subject per se. He won't have time to set up everything stated here. If he is a chemistry teacher, he has to be able to teach a non chemist a topic in such a way that he or she will understand it.

The moment England missed the first penalty, we needed an experienced hand to take the 1st one for us . Before Desire stepped up, I had even told friends that she should be the one to take our first after the England miss due to her experience and striking ability. Unfortunately, she could not even calm her nerves and missed the penalty that could have set a great tone for the remainder. Common sense should also tell you that you need one of your best legs to take the last kick. If Oshoala was put to take the last, there is nothing bad in that at all.
