While my palate varies day by day, Ekpankukwo Iwa (Cassava) with periwinkle and palm oil is my all time favorite. I miss it! |

Anything western culture particularly from American and Europe is wildly embraced by some Nigerian youths. |
May God bless you in the Name of Jesus Christ for your right answer@Orimili |
If your marriage was solemnized by the Pastor of the Church and documented in writing in front of other witnesses, then you are LEGALLY married. Dont let anybody strip you of your legal status. |
Family, friends, certain parts of the culture, the weather. I mean, the qualities are innumerable. If two friendly Nigerians meet each other, even if their background is different, there is always that similiarity and connection. I don't know how to explain it, but simply put it, I will always remain a Nigerian at heart. Riding tires, bathing outside in the rain, family members visiting, life in the village. www.nigerianmemories..com |
Very sad and heartbreaking. It can happen to anybody. Maybe that boy was from a comfortable home, but lost his parents. We can all make a difference in their lives. https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-10441.0.html |
Which kain question be all this? |
Nope! |
xiomera, what you wrote is crass! |
SMC, are you are book critic? If so, that may also be your calling. I think I may have asked you that before, but you were extremely right on Uwem Akpan. His stories are generating buzz in the literary field. Though I am not a fan of short stories, but I am interested in reading his debut. |
I think Elijah and Enoch died, even though speculations abound that they may be alive, and would play an active role in the end times. It's even believed that they are the Two Witnesses, mentioned in the Holy Bible. http://www.cgom.org/Publications/Booklets/Enoch_Elijah.htm The above link attempts to explain that Enoch and Elijah died. |
His collection of short stories is People Magazine "Pick of the week". Another short story of his is featured in this week's "New Yorker" magazine. Though I am not a fan of short stories, but I go read this one. Another gist: It is also the Entertainment Weekly pick |
@Tchisina, I wont put on airs about the USA or anything, when I was in Dallas three years ago, I was dismayed by the shape of the freeway, that I took my cousin to task over it. He repeated the incident once again when I was in Maryland recently, on how I quaved their freeway. From what I could remember about the freeway in Dallas and from what I have now seen, the Ozumba Mbadiwe road beats Dallas hands down. And it would beat some other freeways in the USA, at least for its cleanliness. |
there is money to be made in nursing and the length of study even for the CNA classes can be over in at least six gruelling weeks. I understand their pay ranges from 15-18. Now, if you are an LPN, you can command upto 25 dollars upwards. In California, there are some people who work 3 and 4 days on a twelve hour shift. And then, the remaining days, put their services 'on call'. Now, when you are 'on call', you get paid double (I think throughout that week) even if your services are not needed that week. One of the local papers in my area featured an RN who makes about 60 dollars an hour. Has a big house in Nevada, but commutes out here, because of the pay. She expressed her desire to work here because of the double pay she accumulates from being 'on call' which is 120 dollars an hour. In her residential city in Nevada, "on call nurses" dont get paid double. So, that should explain why some Africans get into nursing. Another beauty of it is the relative job security in the field. |
If there is any dream that I desire most, it is to live a life that brings Glory and Honor to my Creator, Jesus Christ of Nazareth! |
But I am not kidding@Tchisina, check out the scenery in the pictures, the paved road, the traffic signs. It's encouraging to display them to an outsider, at least to educate them that all is not rough and tumble in Nigeria. Infact, the road better pass some freeways in America. |
Very impressed. The Ozumba Mbadiwe road looks like a picture taken from one of the freeways in the USA. |
Obama's nomination is history in the making! ![]() |
MADRID, Spain - Spanish twins who were separated at birth through a hospital error — then reunited as adults through a fluke — are suing for millions in damages, as is a third woman who grew up thinking, erroneously, that she was one of the twins, a lawyer said Tuesday. ADVERTISEMENT The real twins finally met each other in 2001. The case has been working its way through the courts since 2004. A decision is expected soon on whether the three women deserve damages, said Sebastian Socorro Perdomo, a lawyer for one of the twins. He would not release the names of any of the women, who are all 35 years old. Socorro Perdomo said in an interview that his client is seeking $4.7 million from the government of the Canary Islands, where the error occurred in 1973 in the city of Las Palmas. The other two women are also suing, he said. He said his client was taken out of her crib as her twin sister lay in one right next to her, mistakenly replaced by another baby girl, and ultimately raised by the family of that child. The other two girls were brought up in the mistaken belief they were twin sisters. "It does not take a lot of effort to put yourself in the position of any of these people in order to understand the damage that has been done," Socorro Perdomo said. Of the three, he said his client — taken away from her twin sister and real family — is the most devastated. "Since this discovery, her world has turned a bit upside down," he said. "The first right of any child is the right to their own personal and family identity," he said. "In this case, that right has been violated." The error emerged a generation later, through a chance encounter at a clothing store in Las Palmas. A friend of Socorro Perdomo's client worked in the shop. When a woman who was the spitting image of that client came in and failed to recognize the employee, the clerk was dumbfounded. When the dead ringer came by the store a second time, the clerk began to put two and two together and arranged for the women to meet. DNA tests proved they were identical twins, the lawyer said. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080527/ap_on_re_eu/spain_switched_at_birth;_ylt=As6Wz4pw4xZh26t5_HjiZeis0NUE |
You live in England. Please listen to Royal speech. If the Queen can use Plural for herself, I wonder why you are constriction God who created the Queen from her father and mother from being able to use that Royal plural for Himself? Ndipe's comment: That you are even equating the Word of God with the speech of the monarch of England proves that there is really no point in debating with you. |
May God give me the Grace to never ever compromise His Religion in the Name of Jesus Christ, Amen |
Olaadegbu, Thanks for the second inspirational verse from Isaiah 45:18. I did not know about that |
Very pathetic. A former school mate of mine informed me a cup of rice is 160 Naira. It's unbelievable! |
I am befuddled at what I read on one Nigerian blog. Is it for real? A cup of rice is 150 Naira, while a cup of beans is 80 Naira? A tuber of yam is over 300 Naira and a bottle of groundnut oil is more than 200 Naira. What's going on in Nigeria? I keep reading the fanciful/encouraging news of the boom in salaries of those in the private sectors. Now, I have to question the possibility of feeding one's family with even an annual salary of 5 million Naira, when you factor in other expenses vis a vis rent, gas, clothes. We are in a very dire situation. |
Proverbs 30: 4 Who has gone up to heaven and come down? Who has gathered up the wind in the hollow of his hands? Who has wrapped up the waters in his cloak? Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is his name, and the name of his son? Tell me if you know! Psalm 2 (King James Version) King James Version (KJV) Public Domain Psalm 2 1Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? 2The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying, 3Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us. 4He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the LORD shall have them in derision. 5Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure. 6Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion. 7I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee. 8Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession. 9Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel. 10Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth. 11Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling. 12Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him. While some Jews deny His Messiaship, the above scriptures is a telling of the revelation of Jesus Christ, prior to His Incarnation in the New Testament. Glory Be to God in the Highest!, Amen. |
EXACTLY 18 years after he came to London, to work as a cleaner, Nigerian Ezekiel Obasohan yesterday made history, becoming a Mayor in England. advertisement An overwhelming majority of the councilors of the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham elected him to that position. Obasohan of the Labour Party defeated Evelyn Carpenter to achieve the feat. Dressed in an ash-coloured suit, he was elated as over 40 of the 48 councilors of the borough gave him their votes. As early as 6pm on Friday night, the Barking Town Hall council chamber and the public gallery were filled. Not even the cold weather could keep residents at home, as they came to witness who would win the election of the new mayor. With majority of the councilors, who would vote, being Whites, detached observers gave Obasohan little chance of winning. The day's main business began with outgoing mayor, Fred Burns, calling for nomination. Councilor Iaim Smith nominated Obasohan, and was seconded by Charles Fairbrass. Many of the councilors raised their hands to vote for Obasohan, thus ensuring that he became the first Nigerian and African to win the exalted seat. After his election, he was invited by the outgoing Mayor Burns to come to the dias, read and sign the Declaration Book. After signing the book, Obasohan and Burns left the chamber for about 10 minutes and by the time they came back, the former was dressed in the mayoral robes and led in by the mace bearer. Thereafter, Burns invested him with the mayoral Chain of Office and he read his acceptance speech, which traced his journey to the coveted office. According to him: "About 4o years ago a relatively unknown Baptist preacher from the United States of America marched on Washington with one million men. This Baptist preacher gave a stirring speech titled 'I HAVE A DREAM.' "Today, Barking and Dagenham council in a small way has re-echoed the words of that preacher; because the theme of the 2008/09 mayoral year is 'LIVING THE DREAM.' "This is the year Barking and Dagenham council will set her sights to living and fulfilling her many dreams. As Mayor, I want to be the handyman and the servant that will bring these many dreams to pass. "That is why I feel so honoured and humbled to be the flagbearer of this penultimate year in the history of our dear Borough." http://odili.net/news/source/2008/may/18/18.html |
The Nigerian government has failed its citizens. They fought for the causes of South Africa while her citizens. Today South Africa is a powerhouse and has suddenly become a war zone for Nigerians. Even Ghana is requesting for an obscene amount of money from foreigners, including Nigerians to start a business. Shame!. |
How much does it cost to feed a family of five in Nigeria? |
