Some times, when things happen so fast, it appears unnoticeable. Things have happened so fast since Muhammadu Buhari became President and it seems we have forgotten the past. Just a quick reminder. 1. In 2011, former president Goodluck Jonathan cried out that the "cabals" in his government, especially those in the oil industry were holding his government to ransom. He tried to remove fuel subsidy and pegged the pump price of fuel at #148 per litter. Nigerians resisted it and he reduced it to #97 per litter and fuel subsidy continued. Nigeria was paying over #1.5 trillion naira for subsidy per year till late 2015. President Muhammadu Buhari came and insisted that there was nothing like subsidy and that the word subsidy is a fraud to siphon Nigerias resources. President Muhammadu Buhari pulled the string, disbanded the cabals and removed subsidy. Today, Nigeria no longer pay subsidy to anyone, but the amazing thing is that fuel is now sold below the price it was sold when Nigeria was paying subsidy. Fuel is also freely available everywhere at a reduced price. Who will ever believe that the cabals can be disbanded and subsidy removed without an increase in the pump price of fuel? What a world! 2. Before now, the federal government operated over 200 bank accounts and the agencies/institutions of government that generate revenue make sure they retire all revenue generated as expenses and management cost. The PDP government suggested a Single Treasury Account TSA, but the fat cows and cabals never allowed its implementation. Today, President Muhammadu Buhari has disbanded the fat cows/cabals and reintroduced and implemented the Single Treasury Account TSA which has yielded #2.2 trillion naira as at December 2015 which was just a little more than 4 monthsof its implementation. 3. Federal Allocations are now disbursed as at when due. Before former president Goodluck Jonathan handed over power to President Muhammadu Buhari, Federal allocations were owed like salaries leading many states to bankruptcy, but President Muhammadu Buhari came and paid bailout to states. Today, the monthly allocations are comingas as at when due irrespective of the fact that crude oil which is the major source of revenue has fallen from $140 per barrel under Goodluck Jonathan to $28 per barrel today. 4. Stealing has become corruption. Under the PDP administration, stealing was not corruption. It was an acceptable norm. Today, under President Muhammadu Buhari. Those who looted Nigerias resources are willingly returning millions of dollars to the government and facing various charges in court. 5. Discipline has returned in public service and everyone is learning to be accountable knowing fully well that President Muhammadu Buhari will ask everyone to account for his stewardship sooner or later. I can count to number 100, but the wailing wailers will turn their eyes away from all these achievements pretending they are not aware. It is ok, but we must continue to share them untill the blind will see them. It is not yet uhuru because the system was badly bastadised, but there is hope for a better tomorrow as President Muhammadu Buhari is paddling the canoe slowly and steady to the promise land. Genevieve Nnaji Genevieve Nnaji was the first Nollywood actress to delve into music, after she was suspended from acting alongside some of her colleagues in 2005. She released her first single, “No More” which earned her a mouth-watering recording deal in Ghana, before she went underground. Ten years after she released that song, the respected actress has never made any attempt again to rock the microphone. The last that was heard of her was when D’banj featured her in the music video of his “Fall in Love”song. Pundits are convinced that the star of “Ije: The Journey” and “Tangle with Me” did not only lack the carriage and drive to sustain her dream as a budding singer, but also, she wasn’t as hot as the likes of Tiwa Savage, Yemi Alade, Seyi Shay, Cynthia Morgan among others. No doubt, she has a great voice and a great personality, but like her colleagues, she doesn’t have what it takes to reach gold status as a singer. https://cdn1.vanguardngr.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/Genevieve-omotola.jpg Genevieve, Omotola Omotola Jalade Ekehinde Like Genevieve Nnaji, Omotola tried her hands on music, after she was banned alongside Genny by the then Ejike Asiegbu-led AGN in 2005. That year, she released a single entitled ‘Gba,’ followed by the video and an album. But despite the massive airplay, the album did not see the light of the day. Her star dimmed after she released other songs like ‘Missing You’ and ‘Feel Alright.’ Omotola knew when to call it quits and realizing that music isn’t her calling, the actress quickly returned to her first love – acting. And since then, you hardly can hear her talk about music. Anita Joseph Anita Joseph is actually not one of the most-sought-after actresses in Nollywood but she certainly has made a name for herself as a controversial actress. Few years back, she delved into music, releasing her debut single entitled, “Go Gaga.” The song did not make the desired impact, even though it managed to receive some airplay with plenty uncomplimentary reviews, before going into oblivion. She made efforts to perform at Ikeja niteclub, but her outing never gained the necessary attention to her album. Not stopping at that, the controversial actress went back to work, and this time, planned two new gospel songs, claiming it was God that directed her to do so. But till date, those planned works are yet to see the light of the day. Ever since, nothing has been heard of her musically. Shan George She is a great actress any day. But when she strayed into music, tongues wagged that she might not go far in the field. And true to her critics’ prediction, she didn’t. Like her colleagues, the passion died as soon as she arrived the nation’s music scene. It would be recalled that she performed in a couple of gigs, including the annual ‘Felabration’ and has released an album. Her musical video, which was directed by Grant Amehin was excellent but Shan George could not sustain the tempo. She faded away. It was said that she was not cut out to be a long time singer. And truly, she once confessed that her albums were just for the people in her village. Her brand of music was in the popular genres like folklore, highlife and afro. To many, Shan George’s greatest undoing was her decision to delve into music. Now that one of her sons is into music, there is the possibility that she might decide to do a collaboration with him. Patience Ozokwor Popularly called Mama G, when Patience Ozokwor, widely known for her wicked roles in movies, decided to give music a shot, her fans expressed strong reservations. This is not because she lacked the rare talent to launch herself into the mainstream music world, but more to that, she didn’t have the staying power in the industry. After releasing the video for ‘Adaeze,’ a single off her ‘Ojadili’ album in 2012, nothing was heard from her again. Mama G did not release more than a single before she disappeared from the scene. https://cdn1.vanguardngr.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/Cossy-Orjiako-Tonto-Dikeh.jpg Tonto Dikeh and Cossy Orjiakor Cossy-Orjiako-Tonto-Dikeh The list of actors who strayed into music cannot be complete without mentioning Tonto Dikeh and Cossy Orjiakor. These two controversial actresses grabbed the microphones to show the other side of their talents. But the move didn’t pay off. Tonto, who has been humbled by marriage faced criticisms over her “Get High Ït’s Ova” songs which she released in 2012. Many praised her creativity, while others who remained neutral turned her songs into a comedy. Yet, in the midst of those criticisms, she remained undaunted and focused, with many of her fans still loving and following her on Facebook and Twitter. It was same with the queen of boobs, Cossy Orjiakor. Endowed with sonorous voice, Cossy thought her voice would give her the edge to break into the music industry. Unfortunately, the reverse was the case, as her song, ‘Me and You” ended up a big flop. It was her hope that she would connect with her fans in some musical videos, but the fans looked the other way. Jim Iyke Nollywood bad boy, Jim Iyke, stormed the music scene with a lot of swagger and disappeared the same way he emerged. Then, many were optimistic that he would make impact on the music scene which his female colleagues failed to accomplish. But how they were proved wrong! Jim did not go beyond releasing a single, “Who am I,” in which he featured 2face. Jim, whose genre of music is rap, was actually determined to break into the music industry. He did everything to promote his music, spending a fortune on radio and television hypes. Yet, his music career was short of being a success. The actor also did another song entitled, ‘Born to do this.’ It featured Mike Word and Puffy T, but his sojourn in the industry failed. Nkem Owoh and John Okafor John Okafor, popularly called Mr. Ibu, and Nkem Owoh, a.k.a Osuofia, are two comic actors better described as thoroughbred Thespians. When they veered into music, many of their fans were not disturbed. Osuofia went ahead to release the hilarious song, ‘I go chop your Dollar.’ The audio and video of the song were banned on air due to their lyrical content. Not to be discouraged, the comic actor released another song, ‘Olamma,’ but he didn’t shine with the song. Just as his partner in ‘crime’, Mr. Ibu, grabbed the microphone and released an audio/video album some years back. Ebube Nwagbo Ebube Nwagbo also joined the league of failed actors-turned-musicians when she released her gospel album which she rendered in Igbo, “Agam Ebegara Chineke Akwa,” with a hit track Öge Ngozi mi Ebugo.” The beautiful actress went underground after releasing the album. Desmond Elliot Hon. Desmond Elliot started out as an actor and later tried his hands in music. While he may have succeeded in politics, the Nollywood actor cum director didn’t record the success in music. https://cdn1.vanguardngr.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/John-Oyegun2-300x264.jpg National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, has said that he did not call for the probe of Supreme Court judges over their verdict in favour of Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike. Odigie-Oyegun made the clarification in an interview with Saturday Vanguard in Abuja on Friday, said there was no need to do so since the apex court had not given any reason for its verdicts. The chairman said: “I did not at any time call for the probe of the judges of the Supreme Court because we do not know what informed the court’s decision in respect of Rivers, Akwa Ibom and others. “It would be out of place for me to have made such a call when the apex court was to come out with the details of its judgment. “In any case, what is there to probe when we don’t even know what informed their decisions?” he asked rhetorically. The chairman noted that although the apex court judgment in the case of Rivers and Akwa Ibom were very “astonishing”, the party would wait to hear what informed them before making its feelings public. It will be recalled that during a meeting with the APC Governorship Candidate in Rivers State, Dr. Dakuku Peterside, on Wednesday, Odigie-Oyegun had noted that there was something wrong with the nation’s judiciary, which needed to be investigated so as to move the nation forward but did not make specific mention of the Supreme Court. “We must address these issues. I still find the judgement on the Rivers State governorship election totally astonishing. There is something fundamentally wrong in the Judiciary,” he said. After listening to the ruling of the Supreme Court in the appeal he filed to challenge the process of arraigning him before the Code of Conduct Tribunal, Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki here by states as follows : 1. He expresses disappointment over the Judgment of the apex court in the country on the six grounds of his appeal 2. He however will like to put it on record that the facts of the substantial matter are not before the Supreme Court since the apex court was only invited to rule on some preliminary issues in the process of commencing the trial. 3. The Senate President believes he will have his day in the court to prove his innocence of the charges preferred against him during the trial proper. 4. Dr. Saraki will like to thank everyone who has expressed support for him from the beginning of the case. He assures everyone that at the end of the day truth will prevail and justice will be served. The National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Olisa Metuh has arrived the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja for the continuation of his ongoing trial. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, had arraigned Metuh on a seven count charge of money laundering. The anti-graft agency is accusing him of collecting the sum of N400m from the former National Security Adviser, Col Sambo Dasuki (rtd), money which it alleged was part of the funds meant for the procurement of arms for the military. This Metuh had denied, saying the money he got from the past administration was for a job he did for the former President, Goodluck Jonathan. He, however, did not disclose the kind of job. Since the commencement of the trials, the prosecution led by Sylvanus Tahir has produced six witnesses who have all testified about their various roles in the alleged transfer of funds from the former NSA to Destra Investiments Limited, a company owned by the embattled PDP spokesman. He was recently granted bail by Justice Okon Abang of the same court, but owing to his inability to meet his bail conditions, his counsel filed an application for an adjustment in the bail terms. He walked out of Kuje prison last week after meeting his bail terms. Metuh for the first time since the trial began walked into the court room without the presence of prisons officials and handcuffs. LAGOS— REACTIONS have trailed the Supreme Court judgement which ruled on the elections of Senators Andy Uba and Stella Oduah. Legal practioners were, however, unanimous in their submission to the verdict by the apex court. Senior Advocates, who lent their voices, include Messrs Rickey Tarfa, Mike Ozekhome and Emeka Ngige. Also, elder statesman, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, opined that the apex court was not consequential in its judgement. Supreme Court not specific — Tarfa In his reaction, Mr Rickey Tarfa (SAN) said the Supreme Court did not give consequential orders to the National Assembly members to vacate their seats. His words: “I am yet to read the full judgement of the Supreme Court and I have a narrow observation on the judgement. However, from what I have read so far in the newspapers, there was no specific declaration that they should vacate their seat.” It never gave mandatory orders — Ozekhome Also reacting, Mr Mike Ozekhome (SAN) said what the Supreme Court gave was a declaratory order and not a mandatory order for the Senators to vacate their seats. His words: “Although I have not read the Supreme Court judgement, but from what I have read, what the Supreme Court did was to give a declaratory order to say that a particular state executive was the recognized one while the other is not recognized.” They’ve not flouted court order—Emeka Ngige According to Chief Emeka Ngige, SAN, the lawmakers were expected to retain their seats until the apex court gives a contrary judgement. Ngige said: “They are entitled to remain in the Senate in the absence of any consequential court order ordering INEC to withdraw Certificates of Return from them. There was no consequential order—Adebanjo On his part, Chief Adebanjo said it was imperative for proper interpretation of the judgement, adding that there was no consequential order on the matter. Adebanjo, a lawyer, said: “There has to be proper interpretation but the Supreme Court did not make consequential order and that is what we are saying. If the court did not make consequentila order asking them to vacate their seats, the lawyers need to go before the Supreme Court for propoer interpretation.” Source: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2016/02/uba-oduah-s-court-not-consequential-in-judgement-lawyers/ Cc: Lalasticlala |

The National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olisa Metuh, said on Friday that the party is on course to regain power in 2019. Metuh, who was released from prison on Thursday, said in Abuja that the PDP has now overcome the initial trauma sparked by its defeat in last year’s elections. In a veiled reference to the struggle for the leadership of the party by different vested interests, the PDP spokesman said the “variance of voices” was a reflection of the party’s foundation of liberal democracy. He spoke at a meeting of the party’s Publicity Directorate with some visiting parliamentarians from the United Kingdom, led by Mark Field, member of Parliament and Chairman of International Office of the Conservative Party, and Colin Bloom, Director of Outreach-BCP. The PDP, according to him, was confronted by serious challenges after losing the elections, culminating in the resignation of its National Chairman, Adamu Mu’azu. Metuh said every issue would be resolved by the party leadership next week. http://thenationonlineng.net/pdp-will-regain-power-in-2019-metuh/ cc: Lalasticlala |

Watermelon, also known as Citrullus lanatus is a plant species in the family Cucurbitaceae with smooth green skin, pulp, and watery juice. The vine-like flowering plant is a nutrient dense food with contains a high amount of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants for a low amount of calories. Here are some facts about watermelon that might surprise you. Wild watermelons originated in southern Africa. There are more than 1200 varieties of watermelon that come in various weights, shapes, sizes and colours. The colours are; Red, orange, yellow and white. Key commercial varieties of watermelon include the Carolina Cross, Yellow Crimson, Orangeglo, Moon & Stars, Cream of Saskatchewan, Melitopolski, and Densuke. Farmers in Japan have started growing cube-shaped watermelons by growing them in glass boxes where they assume the shape of the box. Originally this was done to make the melons easier to stack and store, but the novelty of the cubic watermelon can fetch double the price of a normal one at market Watermelon is a fruit and a vegetable too. It is a vegetable because it is a member of the same family as the cucumber, pumpkin and squash. It is also harvested and cleared from fields like other vine growing vegetables. You can eat watermelon rind and seeds. All parts of a watermelon can be eaten, even the rind, which actually contains a number of nutrients too, but due to the unappealing flavour, it is rarely eaten. In China, the rind is used as a vegetable and stir-fried, stewed or pickled. Try putting it in a blender with some lime for a healthy, refreshing treat. Not only does the rind contain plenty of health- promoting and blood-building chlorophyll, but the rind also contains more of the amino acid citrulline than the pink flesh. Same goes for the seeds; you can just consume them as snacks in between your meals. Nutritionally, watermelons contain high levels of vitamin B6 (which increases brain power), vitamin A (good for eyesight), potassium (which helps in curing heart disease and keeping the heart healthy). The watermelon also contains Vitamin B1, C and manganese which protect against infections. By weight, a watermelon contains about 6% sugar and 92% water . The high water and electrolyte content of watermelons make them ideal as a refreshing summer thrust quenchers. They keep us hydrated, our skin fresh, and can clean the kidneys of toxins. Watermelon and watermelon juice have been shown to reduce muscle soreness and improve recovery time following exercise in athletes. Researchers believe this is likely to do with the amino acid L-citrulline contained in watermelon. http://www.ngrguardiannews.com/2016/01/10-watermelon-facts-that-might-surprise-you/

The Deputy Governorship Candidate to Abubakar Audu during the November 21, 2015 Governorship election in Kogi State, James Faleke, has raised the alarm over attempts to announce his name as Deputy Governor during the swearing in ceremony of Yahaya Bello as Governor of Kogi State. According to Faleke in a statement signed by the Director, Media and Publicity, Audu/ Faleke Campaign Organisation, Honourable Duro Meseko on Wednesday, the plan was hatched for Bello to escape the obvious lacuna of not running the Supplementary election with a Deputy and also to give some form of legitimacy to the apparent unconstitutionality of the action. “I want to bring to the attention of Nigerians, plans to call me out to take oath of allegiance as Deputy Governor to Yahaya Bello today in Lokoja since it is the Deputy that takes oath first. “The script is to announce my name for oath taking at least three times after which they would declare that the Deputy Governor-elect has absconded, but would be sworn in at a later date. They would now go ahead to swear in Bello as the Governor”, he stated. According to Faleke, ” let me make it very clear to the good people of Kogi State and Nigerians in general that I am not the Deputy to Yahaya Bello and will therefore, not be present today (Wednesday) at his inauguration. “I had made my position abundantly clear to my party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Independent National Electoral Commission ( INEC ) that I will not serve as Deputy to Bello, neither would I participate in the December 5, 2015 Supplementary election. “A strongly worded letter was written to the leadership of APC and INEC to back up my position. It is therefore the height of political mischief for anyone to attempt to call my name for oath taking at an inauguration ceremony they know I would not be present “. Honourable Faleke restated his faith in the judiciary to restore back the Governorship mandate which he said rightly belong to the Audu / Faleke team. http://www.channelstv.com/2016/01/27/faleke-raises-alarm-over-announcement-as-deputy-governor/ |
President Muhammadu Buhari will make the final decision on a $3.9 billion fine on the mobile service provider, MTN, the telecommunications minister said on Tuesday. Adebayo Shittu also told journalists that MTN might be advised to withdraw a court case filed against the fine. “If they withdraw it creates a better environment, an environment where there is no stress or pressure on either side,” Reuters quoted the minister as saying on the fine imposed on the firm last year.
