PoliticsFace The Reality That PDP Is Dead, Aregbesola To Fayose by Ndlistic(op): 8:00pm On Jan 26, 2016
The Governor of Osun, Ogbeni Rauf
Aregbesola on Tuesday advised the
Governor of Ekiti, Dr. Ayodele Fayose to face
the reality of the death of Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP) as a party.
Aregbesola said while he is not asking the
governor to abandon the opposition PDP
against his wish, he would only advise him
to join hands with a political party that will
give hope to the people of Nigeria.
He also charged the Ekiti State governor to
direct his energy towards bringing human
and physical development to western region
and Nigeria as a whole.
The Governor stated this when his Ekiti
counterpart paid him a courtesy visit at the
Government House in Osogbo.
Governor Fayose, during the visit, had said
that he is in Osun not for any political
reason and that he is not ready to abandon
the PDP for the All Progressives Congress
(APC) but for his belief in the Yoruba race
and her development and unity.
Aregbesola described the visit of Governor
Fayose to Osun as demonstration of
maturity, saying it takes a very matured
human being to know that at the end of
every public office, he will be left with
humanity.
He said, “Osoko has said that he is not going
to leave his party, but the reality today is
that PDP has served its term in Nigeria.
When a horse is dead, it is either you
abandon it or you bury it.
“I want my good friend and brother to know
that PDP has exhausted it’s stay in Nigeria,
it can no longer be revived, let us look at a
political party that will give hope to our
people. Opposition must be for a purpose, I
stand by you on the unity of Yoruba land
and that our leaders not put down in the
country.
“The war is over, we are in a season of
mobilising our people to agriculture and
produce such that we will economically have
the strength to give leadership to the Nation
and Africa. Our energy must be directed at
bringing human and physical development,
we have enough in this region to give
leadership”. Aregbesola stressed.
He assured Fayose that he will stand by him
in his effort to galvanise the people of
South-west for accelerated development.
The Governor who lamented the present
economic situation of the country noted that
there is an invasion on the economy of
Nigeria to the extent that the country is
loosing 75 percent of her income due to oil
glut.
“The country is facing a very serious crises
with the rate at which the crude oil price is
falling. There is an invasion on the economy
to the level that we are loosing 75 percent of
our income which is not good.
“At this point, wise people must have an
alternative to oil which part of it is your visit.
We must use our culture and affinity to form
a bond that can make our people live a
normal life, it is a duty that we owe our
people, States and Nigeria as a whole”.
Speaking earlier, Governor Fayose stated
that against all speculations that he was
coming to Osogbo to ask Aregbesola help
him beg President Muhammadu Buhari, he
was in Osun for the unity of Yoruba race.
He added that the Yoruba race is greater
than any political office hence his belief in
the development of the race.
The governor averred that the visit of the
Ooni of Ife to the 45th coronation of the
Alaafin of Oyo is instructive hence the need
for every Yoruba sons and daughters to see
to the unity and progress of the race.
He said, “This is my first official visit to any
APC state in Nigeria. I am not in Osogbo to
ask Aregbesola to help me beg as being
speculated in some quarters. We are all
Yoruba, politics is like water, it can flow
anywhere.
“I believe in the Yoruba race, the race comes
first before the office of the governor. The
race is eternal while that of governor is
momentary. We must watch today to be
guided by tomorrow. I am here for the unity
of Yoruba as it affect the Oodua, the
progenitor” Fayose emphasised.

PoliticsAlamieyeseigha To Be Buried March 26 - The Nation by Ndlistic(op): 5:46pm On Jan 26, 2016
https://thenationonlineng.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/Chief-Diepreye-Alamieyeseigha.jpg

The burial ceremony of the late former Governor of Bayelsa State, Chief Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, will commence on March 24 and end on March 26, a family source said on Tuesday.

The Nation gathered that Alamieyeseigha would have been buried on November 16 last year, the day he would have marked his 63 birthday.

But it was reportedly put off because of preparations for the state governorship election and lack of agreement between the state government and the deceased’s family.

The silence over his burial had led to speculations especially outside the Niger Delta region that Alamieyeseigha’s death might have been faked to stop his extradition to Britain on corruption charges.

But Major Graham Naingba (rtd), the first cousin of the deceased and Traditional Ruler of Amassoma, Alamieyeseigha’s community in Southern Ijaw local government area of the state, said the death was not faked.

Graham, who spoke on Tuesday when our correspondent visited his palace in Amassoma, said it was an abomination in Ogboin community, comprising Amassoma, Amatolu and Otuan, for anybody to fake his death.

Naingba noted that though the chiefs in the community were yet to see the remains of the late former governor, some members of the family were present when he died.

He said: “Alamieyeseigha is truly dead. I have heard people who claimed that he faked his death. It is not true. In Ogboin community, we don’t fake our death.

“If anybody claims that he is dead and he eventually comes back, the person cannot live for more than three months. It is our tradition. If you fake your death, you are gone because you cannot live again.

“Even if the whole world says he is not dead, I the traditional ruler of this community will tell you that he is dead.”

PoliticsGovernor Dickson Sanctions 500 Workers For Backing APC by Ndlistic(op): 8:37am On Jan 26, 2016
•Governor withholds salaries of affected
persons
There were indications yesterday that the
Seriake Dickson-led Bayelsa State
government has allegedly compiled the
names of 500 workers for punishment for
“supporting” the All Progressives Congress
(APC) in the last December 5 and January 9
governorship polls in the state.
Besides the punishment, it was learnt that
the affected civil servants had not been paid
since last October.
The government is said to be unhappy that
the civil servants worked against Dickson’s
re-election and his party, the Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP), in the polls that
were marred by widespread violence.
The government’s action is said to be
generating tension with the affected civil
servants planning to seek redress in court.
Dickson was declared the winner of the
election by the Independent National
Electoral Commission (INEC) after defeating
former Governor Timipre Sylva of the APC
and Moses Siasia of the Peoples Democratic
Movement (PDM).
It was gathered that the government set up
“a special committee” in each of the eight
local government areas to monitor the
activities of pro-APC civil servants before
and during the elections.
Workers in the Ministries, Departments and
Agencies (MDAs) within grade levels eight to
17 are said to be affected by the
government’s action.
The order to sanction the “indicted” civil
servants was said to have emanated from
the committee’s report.
It was learnt that the names of the affected
persons were forwarded to the Due Process
Bureau, which operates the automated
payroll system of the state government, for
appropriate action.
The directive reportedly emanated from the
Office of the Secretary to the State
Government (SSG) through the Office of the
Head of Service (HOS) to the Due Process
Bureau.
The bureau, headed by Dickson’s Special
Adviser on Treasury Matters, Mr. Timi
Seipulo, was reportedly asked to implement
the order.
It was also gathered that workers in the
state’s broadcasting corporation and the
sport council were the worst-hit.
A source, who spoke in confidence, noted
that there was a deliberate effort by the
government to flush out those considered
APC members in the civil service.
“Right now, a fresh verification of workers is
ongoing for this singular purpose. Most of
these workers have not received their
salaries since October, last year. While pro-
PDP workers are receiving their salaries,
those perceived to be APC members are
not,” the source said.
One of the affected workers, who did not
want to be named for security reasons, said
the accountant in his establishment told
them their names were missing from the
payroll.

PoliticsHow I Helped Buhari Defeat Jonathan – Ex-nsa Dasuki by Ndlistic(op): 4:18pm On Dec 20, 2015
Overwhelmed by the recent turn of events
around him , the embattled former National
Security Adviser, Col Sambo Dasuki (Rtd),
has opened up on how he facilitated the
victory of the All Progressives Congress,
APC presidential candidate President
Muhammadu Buhari. at the May 28
presidential polls against that of his then
boss former President, Dr. Goodluck Ebele
Jonathan.
“I gave my best for this transition, which led
to the victory of the opposition over the
ruling party”, Dasuki said
Dasuki, who was placed under house arrest
between Thursday evening and Friday
afternoon by operatives of the Department of
State Security Services, DSS, said he
intentionally turned blind eye to breaches
and actions of the opposition APC against
the administration of former President
Jonathan, because he wanted to be “fair to
all as NSA”.
Dasuki who was retained in office by Buhari
more than one month after the Jonathan’s
administration that appointed him left the
presidential villa, was sacked last week
Tuesday. According to Dasuki he “had
security cause to act on some issues” but
opted not to do what he should have done
and that inaction on his part led to the
victory of President Buhari in the March 28
presidential election.
“I was fair to all as NSA. Even when I had
security cause to act on some issues,
inflammatory comments and actions against
the government of the day by those in the
opposition, I exercised restraint. I did not
restrict anyone’s movement, I never asked
security agent to occupy anybody’s house.
“But that is the new change we have, this is
our own definition of democracy. All I know
is that everything has a beginning and an
end in a democracy. I gave my best for this
transition, which led to the victory of the
opposition over the ruling party,” Mr. Dasuki
said.
Speaking in an interview with The Nation,
Col. Dasuki accused the Muhammadu Buhari
administration of witch hunt and lamented
that the administration he assisted to power
is now desperate to nail him for uncertain
reasons.
Recalling his travails in the hands of DSS
officers and operatives, Dasuki said “the SSS
operatives came in two trucks with a search
warrant from a Magistrate Court. The
warrant gave them the power to search for
illegal weapons and any incriminating item.
You can imagine what that is supposed to
mean..
“I left office on Tuesday and they got the
warrant on Wednesday and executed it by
6pm on Thursday.
“From 6pm on Thursday, throughout the
night till about 6am this morning (Friday),
they were searching my house looking for
incriminating items.
“They restricted my movement. I cannot go
out and no one can visit me. All those who
attempted to see me were stopped from
doing so.
“In fact, my son was blocked from entering
my residence. My two cooks, who used to
come from their homes to prepare my
meals, were also disallowed from leaving my
house.
“The only person allowed was the man who
feeds my dogs. And he only related with the
dogs.
“I could not go out to perform the Eid-el-Fitr
prayer because of the restriction,” he said.
“Even when I sought permission to go to Eid
Praying ground, they promised to provide a
vehicle but they never did.
“This is just a witch-hunt; they are
desperately looking for something to
implicate me.
“They went to my father’s house including
breaking into the ceiling to look for
incriminating documents. They broke a safe
in my father’s house.
“Also, my sister kept a 20-year old box in my
father’s house, they also forced it open.
What has my father got to do with this?
“And the old man is in hospital in London.
He was shocked to hear that they broke into
his house. The good thing is that they did
not find anything.”
He however declared that in spite of the
“witch hunt” he has nothing to fear.
As at the time of going to press last night,
neither the DSS nor the presidency were
available to respond to the allegations made
by the former NSA. Efforts made to get
reactions from the spokespersons of the
SSS and president Buhari were
unsuccessful.

EducationGovernment Primary School Ijoko, Ogun, Where Pupils Pay Teachers’ Salary by Ndlistic(op): 3:23pm On Dec 15, 2015
Have you ever imagined a scenario where pupils of primary schools pay teachers’ salary? That is the situation in a yet-to-be-approved Government Primary School in Ijoko, Ogun State. It is usually interesting to hear government officials say that education is free in Nigeria, especially at the primary level and the most important section as it is. How true is this saying?

For several reasons ranging from Community Development Association’s (CDA) inability to further maintain facilities (rented building and provision of Chairs and textbooks in some cases) and to manage both teachers’ and pupils’ needs, to their inability to erect a structure suitable for government approval, the school has changed locations for about 4 times.

What now poses as St. Saviour Primary School Olayemi Annex, Oluke Tuntun, Ijoko, Ogun State, used to be United Community Primary School, established in 2005 by the collective effort of the members of Olorundusin (Fadunsin) CDA, area of Ijoko.

However, the farther the school goes the more or less accessible it became for some pupils, and some hopes to attend primary school were dashed. At Basic (Primary) 6, the pupils are merged with an approved school for placement into Basic 7 (Junior Secondary School 1) at the nearest Government Secondary School.

Government at all levels calls it Free Education but Pupils of St. Saviour Primary School, Olayemi pay N600 while their colleagues in the yet-to-be approved annex pay N1600. This is because at the yet-to-be approved annex, pupils pay N500 for teachers’ salary and N500 for school building. The other N600 supposedly paid to government, is N300 for maintenance and N300 for insurance from the government. What then is free? This is obviously not peculiar to St Saviour; it seems to be the culture in Ogun State.

For new intakes in an unapproved school like St. Saviour Annex, the story is slightly different. They pay N2200. This is the regular levy of N1600 plus N100 for a chair and N500 for government approval of the school. Only God knows how long this payment for approval will last before providence comes their way.

The said N600 supposedly paid to government was per session since its introduction until early this year (2014) when pupils now pay every term, which now amounts to N1800 per academic session in an approved school and N4800 for the yet-to-be approved school pupils. Maybe the cost of insuring and maintaining these pupils has increased.

Meanwhile, the curriculum at primary school level is expected to provide a permanent literacy for children from ages 3 and 5, including pre-primary. It also extends to the laying of a sound basis for scientific, critical and reflective thinking, inclusive of equipping children with the core life skills to function effectively in the society. It could not have been otherwise, that is what makes it a primary education to human existence anyway.

St. Saviour Oluke annex has tried to do just that for about 9 solid years now. This poor to-be-public primary school, in its unapproved form, has continued to produce primary school graduates, laying a questionable foundation.

After going through hell, the school now has a structure of four classrooms, which is one of government’s requirements to approve a school as fit to offer public primary education. Just as the Basic 6 pupils occupy a classroom that also doubles as office due to the inadequacy of classrooms, the pupils of Basic 1 also occupy a classroom out of the four classrooms available. On the contrary, Basic 2 and 3 share one classroom, while pupils of Basic 4 and 5 also share a classroom. All these are efforts of the children of the masses to acquire education by all means.

It is therefore logical to best describe this kind of education as cheap and not free education.

It is pertinent for government to want to revive public primary education in Nigeria. If it would remain free as claimed, it does not have to be with bad structures and ill administrative systems. Students of public schools also deserve some dignity and sense of satisfaction for attending government schools. It is expected that whatever government does should be at its best. Many Nigerians, home and abroad have lost hope in the governmentet, there are few who believe that government can and would attend to the very needs of the citizenry.

Thus, schools should be often rehabilitated and equipped with up-to-date facilities including white board markers and library, as well as qualified manpower to mention but few. In the light of that, fresh graduates could be employed in classrooms to both reduce unemployment and rescue government schools. Most of these graduates after National Youth Service often end up teaching in private schools with a stipend in the name of salary. These, undoubtedly will help reposition primary education again in Nigeria.

As vital as it is to equip and manage schools, it is even more important for government to build enough schools across every settlement to overcome the risk of overpopulated few available schools and or the risks of pupils travelling more than 3 kilometers to school. More so, one of the supposed reasons why private schools seem to do much better is because teachers do not attend to too many students which may bring about a hostile teachers-students relationship. One teacher to 20-25 students is not bad. Also important is the need for re-orientation of teachers about their relationships with students.

On the whole, rewards and certificates of recognitions or of honours often boost worker’s will-power to do more at work. Teachers should not be left out of such appropriate motivations and reward for extra efforts to improve the learning of pupils. Education is light as knowledge is power. In the voices of the children of Nigerian masses, government should do the needful to boost the ego and will-power of teachers to improve education. No sooner than these and many other reforms are effected, education will be revived in the country again.

PoliticsI’m More Important Than Obasanjo –fayose by Ndlistic(op): 11:08am On Dec 14, 2015
Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State says
he is more politically relevant than former
President Olusegun Obasanjo.
Fayose added that as the number one citizen
of Ekiti State, he wields more power than
Obasanjo who “goes to Abuja to beg
President Muhammadu Buhari for political
favours.”
The governor said this during a press
conference in Lagos on Sunday.
He said, “I was governor without a
godfather. I was governor for three years but
Obasanjo took me out. Obasanjo is now an
expired man today and I am still more than
relevant. He is expired. He goes to Aso Rock
every week to go and beg.
“How many times did Buhari visit him
(Obasanjo) when he was President? Buhari
did not go to Aso Rock throughout. He
didn’t even go for Council of State meetings.
What is Obasanjo looking for in the Villa? A
man of 80! What is he looking for?
“He keeps writing to Presidents to nominate
ministers for them. That was Goodluck
Jonathan’s offence. Enough is enough.”
Fayose said he had discovered a plot by
Buhari to remove him from office.
He faulted the setting up of the Nigerian
Army’s Board of Inquiry to investigate
alleged malpractices and involvement of its
personnel in the 2014 Ekiti and Osun states
governorship elections.
The governor said since the All Progressives
Congress had failed to upturn his victory at
the Supreme Court, the APC-led Federal
Government was planning to present the
army panel’s report to the Supreme Court
and ultimately remove him from office.
Fayose, however, warned that if he was
removed from office, against the wishes of
the people of Ekiti State, Buhari’s
government would be ‘brought down’.
He said the international community,
including the United States, had described
the 2014 Ekiti governorship election as free
and fair. He, therefore, wondered why the
APC could not respect the will of the people.
He noted that even during the 2015 National
and House of Assembly elections, the
Peoples Democratic Party won all the seats
which showed that the PDP was popular in
Ekiti State.
He said, “The APC and the President are the
ones behind this. That military panel was
selected to do a hatchet job. The same
military handled the elections in Ekiti and
Osun states. Why are they singling out Ekiti?
The PDP won in Ekiti while the APC won in
Osun and heaven did not fall.”
Fayose said he would continue to tell the
truth even at the risk of being murdered.
“I am going places, I have history to make. I
am going higher and higher. The very day
Buhari’s administration faces me, his
government will come down. I am a child of
destiny,” he said.

Many members were healed, some were healed of fracture, deafness, blindness and bed-wetting but what I couldn’t figure out up till now was a member who claimed that her TWO BREAST wasn’t equal, One Breast was SMALL while the other Breast was BIG, as soon as Bishop David OYEDEPO prayed, she received her miracle and the two unequal breasts became 2 Big equal breasts. Everyone shouted hallelujah, glory be to God for such an unusual healing. They thanked the God of Bishop Oyedepo for healing her.

PoliticsUpdate: Reason Why Kogi Speaker Momoh Jimoh-lawal Was Impeach by Ndlistic(op): 5:39pm On Dec 10, 2015
The Speaker of Kogi State House of
Assembly, Alhaji Momoh Jimoh-Lawal was
Thursday impeached along with two other
principal officers, his deputy, Hon. Ali Akuh
and minority leader, Hon. Hassan Bello.
Jimoh-Lawal was impeached over
allegations of incompetence in the running of
the affairs of the assembly.
Addressing pressmen in Lokoja, chairman of
the house committee on information, Hon.
John Abbah stated that the action of “17
members” of the assembly to remove Jimoh-
Lawal as speaker should not be seen as
novel, but imperative, in view of the demand
to remove the speaker before now.
He explained that there had been previous
moves to remove Jimoh-Lawal as speaker,
but that they have been managing him,
stating that when the 17 members could no
longer manage him and others, they had no
option but to move against him.
Abbah, who is the new deputy speaker, said
that Jimoh-Lawal was impeached because of
incompetence, greed and betrayal of
members.
Also removed along with Jimoh-Lawal, was
his deputy, Hon. Ali Akuh and the minority
leader, Hon. Hassan Bello.
Meanwhile the house has elected new
speaker in the person of Hon. Godwin Osuyi,
while Hon. John Abbah was elected as the
new deputy speaker and Hon. Eneche
Ojochemenemi Linus became the new the
minority leader.
The newly elected speaker, Godwin Osuyi
said that the impeachment had nothing to
do with the political situation in the state.
He pointed out that all the 25 assembly
members are capable of being speaker of the
house, and that if any is not competent,
such can be removed.
He announced that the house has been
adjourned to 16 December.

PoliticsBayelsa: PDP Hails Cancellation Of Southern Ijaw Votes by Ndlistic(op): 9:43pm On Dec 07, 2015
The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has hailed the cancellation of Southern Ijaw Local Government votes by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The praised what it described as the courage of the people of Bayelsa state for fearlessly “curtailing the rigging machinery” of the All Progressives Congress (APC). It described the election in the area as fabricated.
In a statement on Monday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, the party said but for the bravery of Bayelsans in standing up for their votes against the hordes of harassment by the military and other security forces working for the APC, their will as a people would have been completely subverted in the election.
The PDP commended the actions and concerted efforts of its members in resisting rigging and impunity.

The statement said, “We condemn in the strongest possible term, the wanton confiscation and transfer of voting materials by security operatives directly to APC agents for outright allocation of votes.

“For the purposes of the rescheduled Southern Ijaw election, we wish to make it abundantly clear that we are ready, willing and able to defend the choice of the people.

“Never again will this leadership of the PDP allow our party candidates to be manipulated out of any election at any level. In that regard, we have activated our structures across the country to defend our mandate always, with all force and means available in a democracy.
“Nevertheless, we are indeed concerned about the apparent inability of the present INEC to conduct a credible election in a single state, especially in the light of the fact that very soon they will need to conduct a general election in all the states.

“Finally, for the security forces busy brutalizing innocent Nigerians exercising their democratic rights, we declare that they should hide their faces in shame over the flexing of muscles in terror free zones”.

PoliticsReferendum: All FG Properties Will Go To Biafra, Debts To Nigeria - OEAS by Ndlistic(op): 11:16am On Dec 07, 2015
The Organization of Emerging African States (OEAS), an international governmental organization that promotes self-determination and the end to colonial era boundaries in Africa has outlined reasons why there should a snap referendum for Biafra Republic.

OEAS noted that if there is a secession, all “Property of the federal government within the borders of Biafra will become property of Biafra. The Nigerian government however will retain all national debt. Biafra will then release the Nigerian government from any obligation to pay reparations for crimes committed during the war of independence 1967-1970.”

OEAS noted that as of today the people of Biafra are locked in an epic struggle with the Nigerian federal government, the inevitable result of which will likely be some form of self-determination for Biafra.

The OEAS wants a snap referendum to be held within 90 days with OEAS, UNPO, and UN, EU and AU nonaligned observers supervising the balloting process. Various effected groups and individuals have asked for details which OEAS can now provide.

Why a Snap Referendum?

The people of Biafra have waited almost 50 years to legitimize their choice. There is no need to prolong the process. A lengthy delay will no doubt result in violence and bloodshed as out of the area ruffians and intimidators come into the region to try to unlawfully influence results.

Who will be eligible to vote in the Referendum?

All persons living within the confines of the borders of the former Republic of Biafra as of January 1, 2016 will be eligible to vote. In addition, persons living outside the borders who can demonstrate significant ties to Biafra by family or property may choose to vote as well.

What are the choices?

A. For total independence and the restoration of the Republic of Biafra as a sovereign independent nation.
B. For internal self-rule as an autonomous Biafra republic with its own parliament, currency, police and prime minister but with external affairs and other matters handled by the Nigerian federal government. This would be an arrangement similar to Scotland and the United Kingdom or Greenland and Denmark.
C. For no change.
How many votes are required?

Whatever option above gets a plurality will be the chosen result.

If we choose an independent Biafra, what then?
After an orderly transition period of no more than 180 days, Biafra will again be independent. Those who wish to maintain their Nigerian citizenship may do so but will be under Biafran rule and must affirmatively register themselves as aliens. Likewise, those outside Biafra with ties to Biafra may become Biafran citizens after renouncing Nigerian citizenship.

What about former federal government property?

Property of the federal government within the borders of Biafra will become property of Biafra. The Nigerian government however will retain all national debt. Biafra will then release the Nigerian government from any obligation to pay reparations for crimes committed during the war of independence 1967-1970.

What about the borders?

The borders with Nigeria must be settled by the time of independence in order to avoid disorder and discord. On the other hand, Biafra should not be obligated to follow any agreements between Cameroun and Nigeria, any loss of territory must be subject to a democratic referendum.
Is all this really possible?

We answer emphatically is yes. The people of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea made their choice to leave Ukraine under far more stressful circumstances. The vote was so overwhelmingly in favor that no country has seriously challenged the will of the people.

Finally, what about those criminals who have oppressed Biafrans and committed crimes and atrocities against the people of Biafra?
A Truth and Reconciliation Commission composed of Biafrans and other experts will establish the truth and investigate political and genocidal crimes from 1967 to present. The Committee will have the power to grant clemency and forgiveness but also may make recommendations as to prosecution in the most serious cases of crimes against humanity, war crimes, and genocide.

CultureNew Ooni Gets Staff Of Office Today by Ndlistic(op): 6:59am On Dec 07, 2015
https://www.punchng.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/NEW-OONI-OF-IFE-ARRIVES-ILE.jpg
The new Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi Ojaja II, will on Monday (today) be presented with the staff of office by the Osun State Governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola.

The ceremony which will hold at the Enuwa Square in front of the Ile Oodua (Ooni’s palace) is expected to have many dignitaries in attendance, among who are the Queen Elizabeth England; President Muhammadu Buhari; some governors; ministers and other important personalities from within and outside the country.

Ogunwusi, who is the 51st Ooni of Ife, succeeded Oba Okunade Sijuwade, who joined his ancestors on July 28 in a London hospital at the age of 85.

Ogunwusi was announced the new Ooni on October 26 and he started the installation rites on October 28 when he arrived in Ife. He proceeded to Ilofi (seclusion,) where he was initiated.

A close ally of the new Ooni, Mr. Biyi Odunlade, told our correspondent that the new monarch was ready to impact his subjects positively with his wealth and influence.

Odunlade said Ogunwusi had started the construction of a big resort along Ife-Ibadan Expressway. This, he said, would engage some people and would also attract people to the town.

Ogunwusi had on Wednesday said he would establish a football academy which, according to him, would liberate some youths from the grip of unemployment.

Meanwhile, the Osun State House of Assembly has urged Ogunwusi to work with other Obas and government at all levels in the interest of peace and development.

The assembly gave the advice in a statement issued by the Chairman, House Committee on Information, Mr. Olatubosun Oyintiloye, a copy of which was made available to one of our correspondents in Osogbo on Sunday.

The lawmakers urged Oba Ogunwusi to use his office to foster a peaceful coexistence not only in Ife and the Yorubaland but throughout the country and beyond.

The statement read, “Ooni Ogunwusi should give an inimitable service and surpass the worthy legacies of his predecessors.

“He was also admonished to work with other traditional rulers and government at all levels to inspire harmony, peace and development in the country.

“The new Ooni should also use his position as the custodian of the cultural heritage and traditions of the Yorubaland for the service of the people,” the statement added.

The lawmakers commended ruling houses in Ile-Ife for the manner in which they resolved their differences during the selection process.

They also congratulated the Osun State Government, the state’s Council of Obas, and the people of the state, especially the descendants of Ife on the peaceful transition.

“The spontaneous enthusiasm that greeted the announcement of the new monarch across Ile-Ife, the Osun State and the entire nation is a substantiation of the better days ahead,” the statement said.

PoliticsDickson Storms INEC Collation Centre, Southern Ijaw by Ndlistic(op): 11:54am On Dec 06, 2015
The Governor of Bayelsa State and
candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party
(PDP) in the state, Mr. Seriake Dickson,
Sunday morning, reportedly forced his way
into the collation centre of the Independent
National Electoral Commission (INEC), in
Onopa, Yenagoa LGA.
The Sylva/Igiri Campaign Organisation
(SICO) said Dickon stormed the place at
about 11pm Saturday night and threatened
to ‘deal seriously’ with agents of the APC,
Chief Werinipre Seibarugu, former Deputy
Governor and Mr. Fortune Panebi, State
Publicity Secretary of the APC.
SICO’s Director, Media and Publicity, Chief
Nathan Egba said the action of Dickson was
clearly against the electoral law as he had
no authority as a candidate to go to the
Yenagoa Collation Centre especially as he
was not from the LGA.
He alleged that the governor, who threatened
to deal with the two APC agents, was at the
collation centre to manipulate results being
collated from different wards in Yenagoa.
He said: “The APC agents were said to have
countered the moves by the PDP to
manipulate the results that had been turned-
in before some aides to the Governor alerted
him of the developments at the Yenagoa
Collation centre.
“The APC decided to raise the alarm and
place the information in the public domain
as the Governor’s desperation in the face of
imminent defeat is such that he is ready all
electoral laws”, he said.
He said fresh reports further indicated that
the governor early morning in Sunday led a
large delegation to Oporoma, headquarters
of Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, to
protest against the rescheduled election.
He said: “Governor Dickson is from Sagbama
Local Government Area and has no basis
going to monitor conduct of an election in
another Local Government Area on an
election day in line with the electoral
guidelines.
“This is clearly an act of desperation by the
Governor, who is the candidate of the PDP in
the election.
“Dickson, in company of the Speaker of the
State House of Assembly, Mr. Kombowei
Benson, who is from the LGA reportedly met
with INEC officials on the ground and told
them not to go ahead with the poll.
“The INEC officials had reportedly told the
Governor, he had no powers to stop the
election.
“Governor Dickson was the chief sponsor of
violent attacks in most of the communities.”

PoliticsChina, A Dependable Partner In Our Change Agenda – Buhari by Ndlistic(op): 11:45am On Dec 05, 2015
President Muhammadu Buhari Saturday in South Africa said that the Peoples Republic of China remains a strategic and dependable partner in his administration’s determination to change the direction and content of governance, including the management of the country’s resources with priority on accountability, transparency and result-orientation in governance.
President Buhari stated this in his address at the Roundtable of Chinese and African Leaders on the last day of the Johannesburg Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC). While noting that his administration has since its inauguration in May this year, embarked upon the “task of re-focusing our governance on the real needs of the vast majority of Nigerians,” the President said he was confident that China “will always stand shoulder to shoulder with us in our quest to fulfill the aspirations of our people to propel them to prosperity.”
On the 15-year-old FOCAC, President Buhari, who commended the theme of the Second Summit, “China-Africa Progressing Together: Win-Win Cooperation for Common Development, expressed the hope that it would “engender the right platform to engage Africa in all fields of human endeavours such as provision of essential infrastructure, skills development and capacity building, diversification of our economies and beneficiation of resources.”
While identifying with the laudable objectives of FOCAC in cultivating, fostering and deepening political, economic, technological, social and other forms of relations between China and Africa, President Buhari praised China for the vision behind the establishment of FOCAC as a platform for higher level Africa-China relationship.
According to the Nigerian leader, “Africa expects Chinese investment flows to the real sector of our economies to promote African enterprises. Our over-riding objectives are to tackle the challenge of unemployment, wealth creation, food security and industrialization.”
He also stressed the crucial link between political stability, security and sustainable development on the African continent. “We are convinced that Africa can only leverage productively on the potentials of ties with strategic and development partners in an atmosphere of political stability and security of lives and property as well as in a policy environment that guarantees the sanctity of collaborative joint ventures and investment on the basis of agreed rules and regulations,” President Buhari said.
Drawing the attention of the Summit to the threat posed by global challenges such as fresh political conflicts, terrorism and other forms of extremism; trans-border crimes; illegal arms trade; irregular migration and cybercrimes, he said collective action was required to confront these new threats to global peace. “These are veritable threats to peace and security and without peace and security we cannot succeed in our development objectives,” he stressed.
According to President Buhari, China and Africa must work together to confront the above threats, as well as the challenge of climate change “for which Africa remains badly affected with severe threats to food security and social stability,” in addition to “unacceptable levels of poverty, unemployment and youth restiveness.”
The President said he looks forward to Second FOCAC (after China hosted the first one in 2006) coming out with a clear and sustainable roadmap for what he described as “this strategic engagement which will be mutually beneficial to both Africa and China in the efforts at promoting rapid socio-economic development for” both partners.

PoliticsGroup Calls For Okorocha's Impeachment Over Closure Of Health Facilities by Ndlistic(op): 7:01am On Dec 02, 2015
For closing down all government health facilities in form of concessioning them to private ownership, a group known as Association of General and Private Medical Practitioners of Nigeria (AGPMPN) has dragged the Imo State Governor, Chief Rochas Okorocha, to the state House of Assembly to initiate his impeachment without further delay.

In a statement signed by the Chairman of the organisation, Dr. Philip Njemanze, he disclosed that the closure by the governor of all public primary, secondary and tertiary health centres in the state as well as threatening to close down all private hospitals had had devastating effects on people in the state.

He said as a result of the governor's action, many people have lost their lives and others severely harmed, adding that there was a total paralysis of all primary healthcare services in all rural areas of the state.

"There is a collapse of all health services in the three major general hospitals and the Specialist Hospital in Owerri. Meanwhile, there are indications of rising incidence of diarrheal, tuberculosis, malaria and cholera and total absence of surveillance for the most dangerous diseases like Ebola, HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and yellow fever.

"The state immunisation programmes, antenatal and post-natal care have been halted in most rural areas. Neonatal mortality, child mortality and maternal mortality are rising suddenly due to absence of first responders in the health system in the state.

"AGPMPN in the state drew attention of the general public to the state of emergency in health that has arisen with fast deteriorating effects on public safety,” it stated.

Njemanze underscored the danger that poses to public safety as a result of the direct actions of the Imo State Government. He called on President Muhammadu Buhari to impose a state of emergency in the state.

According to him, the grounds for this action is based on violations of public safety of Nigerians in accordance to Section 305 (2)(c) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The poor state of governance in the Imo State and gross unconstitutional actions of Okorocha have jeopardised public safety, and constitute impeachable offences.

On this note, therefore, AGPMPN called on the state House of Assembly to immediately commence impeachment proceedings Okorocha.

PoliticsKogi: Court To Deliver Judgment 24hrs Before Supplementary Poll by Ndlistic(op): 6:47am On Dec 02, 2015
Justice Gabriel Kolawole of a federal high court in Abuja has said that he will on Friday deliver judgement in all suits involving Kogi governorship election 24 hours before the scheduled supplementary poll on Saturday.

When the case came up yesterday, all the parties in the suit agreed to consolidate the suits to enable the court deliver one judgement.

Governor Idris Wada had filed a suit, asking the court to declare him as the winner of the November 21 governorship election.

Another set of plaintiffs, Johnson Usman, Emmanuel Daikwo and Emmanuel Igbokwe, have filed legal action, asking the court to conduct a fresh governorship election in the state.

The deputy governorship candidate of the APC during the inconclusive poll, Hon Abiodun Faleke, has also filed a suit asking the court to declare him as the governor-elect on the grounds that he has joint ticket with the late Abubakar Audu, having recorded the highest votes during the election.

INEC had on November 22, declared the election inconclusive and announced that a supplementary election would be conducted to determine a clear winner.

The APC governorship candidate in the election, Prince Abubakar Audu, who was leading by a margin of 41,000 votes, died after the election was declared inconclusive.

During the proceedings yesterday, three issues were formulated by parties in the suit.

First, the court is being asked to determine whether having regard to the provisions of Section 31(1)(2)(3)(4)(5)(6)(7) and 8, 33, 34, 36, 85 and 87 of the Electoral Act, 2010 (as amended) as well Sections 178-181 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), INEC can lawfully conduct a second/supplementary election into the office of the governor of Kogi State on December 5, 2015, or any other date at all let alone accepting the nomination/substitution by the All Progressive Congress (APC) when the new or substitute candidate was not part of the original election.

The plaintiffs also want the court to decide whether in view of the provision of Section 178(2)(3)(4)(5) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) and other enabling provisions of the Electoral Act, 2010 (as amended) and having regard to the doctrine of necessity, the plaintiff being the only surviving candidate with the major of lawful votes cast at the Kogi State governorship election held on November 21, 2015 ought not to be declared and returned by the INEC as the winner of the election having secured not less than one-quarter of the votes cast in two-thirds of all Local Government Areas in Kogi state.
