EducationMedical Students Protest, Lock UNILAG Gate (Photos) by Ndlistic(op): 9:45pm On Feb 11, 2016
https://i0.wp.com/www.newsroom.ng/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/IMAG0230-e1455140809240.jpg?resize=650%2C366

It was a day of student protests in Yaba on Wednesday.

While students of Yaba College of Technology were protesting the death of a colleague , pre-medical students of the University of Lagos also locked up the school’s main entrance in protest.

The premed students, comprising students of Medicine and Surgery, Medical Laboratory Science, Nursing, Dentistry, and Physiotherapy, were protesting the school’s management decision to change the criteria for promotion to 200L, mid-session.

The students said the new criteria, which was not disclosed, deprived many of them the chance to continue their programmes.

“When the list was finally released, many students who met the requirements as originally laid out in the handbook were not admitted to the College of Medicine,” a student said.

Joshua Ekula one of the students, at the brink of tears, described the new decision as unjust and disheartening. Another affected student who chose to remain anonymous vowed not to leave the premises till their plight is heard.

https://i0.wp.com/www.newsroom.ng/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/IMAG0231.jpg?resize=651%2C367

In reaction, the school authorities said it was only adhering to the fresh index system to regulate the quota allocated to individual university as introduced by the professional bodies regulating the study of medical programmes in the country.

This was contained in a statement signed by the university’s Information Unit head, Mr. Toyin Adebule.

The statement read in part:

‘This year, the professional bodies have insisted on the enforcement of the quota upon which accreditation is hinged and hence the college has had to conform. What this means is that only students that are indexed will be registered by the professional bodies to practice after graduation.

‘Senate at its meeting held on Wednesday, 27th January, 2016 had approved the implementation of the re-arrangement to conform to the professional bodies’ quota in order not to lose accreditation. This has regrettably meant that we have only been able to receive students into the college only up to the number the College of Medicine is allowed by the quota.

‘We recognise and regret that this has led to some students being unable to cross over into the College of Medicine or their course of choice. Consequently, all candidates who were not successful to be placed in programmes in CMUL have been allocated to appropriate programmes on the main campus in Akoka.’

The school gate was eventually opened about a few minutes to 7:00pm.

RomanceNigerians Are The ‘most Romantic’ by Ndlistic(op): 5:48pm On Feb 11, 2016
Nigerians are the most romantic people in Africa, beating out other online customers in global money transfer leader Transfast’s Valentine’s Day survey.

An impressive 80 percent of Nigerian respondents say they plan to celebrate Valentine’s Day, with 75 percent calling the holiday “Sweet – I like the sentiment behind it.” Of those less enamoured, thirteen percent say it’s “silly, but I put up with it ” and nine percent call it “a ridiculous money-making scheme.” Still, only three percent of Nigerians say Valentine’s Day is “stressful: I wish it would go away!”

Most respondents, who are Transfast customers based in the U.S. or Canada, say their loved one is in the U.S. (54 percent), while 36 percent say their loved one is in Nigeria. A majority (53 percent) says they will send money home for Valentine’s Day, in amounts ranging from $50 to $2,000.

Transfast, the global money transfer company, is used by millions to send money home to more than 120 countries around the globe. For Nigeria, customers can send money from a mobile device or desktop, direct to a recipient’s bank account, or for cash pick-up. In many cases, the transfer is made instantly or within 24 hours.

Nigerian respondents plan to express their love on Valentine’s Day by communicating with their loved one via a phone call (46 percent), Skype (11 percent), Whatsapp (11 percent), Facebook message (eight percent) or Facetime (five percent).

Nigerian respondents agreed that Nigerians are by nature romantic, with 67 percent saying this was the case. A total of 46 percent say they believe in love at first sight, and twelve percent say that love at first sight has happened to them.

Most respondents say they are married (53 percent), 14 percent are dating, 12 percent are engaged and 21 percent are single. But you may not know that from their Facebook pages, because of all respondents, most say they do NOT share their relationship status on social media (53%).

CelebritiesMy Brothers Failed To See The Talent In 9ice, Phyno & Others- Paul Okoye Regrets by Ndlistic(op): 8:23pm On Feb 09, 2016
– Paul Okoye said the brothers would have signed Phyno, 9ice, Kiss Daniel

– Paul explained why the Okoye brothers are doing things independently

– He said he was sure of achieving success with his new artiste, Muno

Following the birth RudeBoy records and signing of Muno to the label, Paul Okoye of Psquare has revealed why the brothers are doing business individually.

In an exclusive interview with Naij.com on Monday, February 8 at their Omole residence, Paul maintained that Psqaure remains intact but it was time for each of them to try out things independently without hurting the Psquare family.

He said he decided to sign Muno immediately he heard him so as not to repeat missed opportunities he had with some artistes in the past. He revealed that he had missed opportunity of signing artistes who are now stars just because he wanted them signed unto Square records.

“When they brought Muno to me, I heard his voice, I accepted him immediately because I no wan hear say he don blow tomorrow and I don miss again (general laughter).”

He further explained that Square records had missed opportunities of signing several artistes.

“When Jude brought Cynthia Morgan I was in support of it, but my brother (Peter) wasn’t comfortable with it but Jude doesn’t want that kind of stories anymore so he went on his own. We don’t want to experience the kind of experience we had before because the problems we will start resolving might even start affecting us. Now, some of us are now like, ‘if to say we know we for allow this girl join us o in Square records’.

Asked if he regrets not signing Cynthia Morgan to Square records, he said; “It’s not only Cynthia Morgan, there is somebody I regretted, Phyno. That’s exactly what I was trying to explain to you earlier. I had the opportunity, he was in my front but because I wanted him on Square records and I couldn’t get it. He’s still my guy sha.”

Probed further, he stated that he missed the opportunity of signing 9ice, Kiss Daniel and other music stars.

“Dem plenty. I first had 9ice, i tried to convince my brothers. Everyone like him o, but then we were working on our Do Me album. The first artiste I would have signed to Rudeboy records was when I heard Woju on radio. I call him Woju (Kiss Daniel). I called everyone but we couldn’t get him. Music is spiritual, once you have that feeling, just move.”

Paul who is currently promoting the two singles released by Muno, No regrets and slow slow, said he is sure of achieving success with Rudeboy records and Muno. He equally added that Psquare will return with two or three new singles in 2016.
