atlwireles: When did we fall?? was it during Buhari's maddness, IBB's cocaine regime, Abacha's killing chambers or Obj's one man rule?
Regardless of when the falling started, it has become a free fall as we speak and our President doesn't seem to know how to break this fall. Frankly it is unfair to expect him to break the said free fall when he is not even capable of keeping PDP intact.
Politics › We Have Fallen Like Humpty Dumpty But Could Be Better As A Nation - Fashola by nduchucks(op): 1:40am On Dec 30, 2013
Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN), Thursday declared Nigeria a dysfunctional state, citing the diverse challenges the country has been facing which have impeded her path to greatness.

Also, the governor lamented the country’s drastic fall from her highly revered place in the international community, which he said, was once coveted and respected by several countries in Africa as well as globally.

He expressed concerns about the declining status of Nigeria in the comity of nations in a press release by his Special Adviser on Media, Mr. Hakeem Bello, on Fashola’s annual lecture delivered on Christmas eve at the Yoruba Tennis Club, Lagos Island, thereby decrying the growing scale of pretence that all “is well with Nigeria”.

Rhetorically, the governor sought to know what kind of a future “do we desire and what kind of effort or sacrifice are we willing to make to earn it. It is not as important to speak about what lies behind Nigeria, but more about what lies ahead of her.”

He said the questions “represent a moderation of the current realities that Nigeria has become dysfunctional as a nation because not only has her ego been bruised and her national pride brittle where it even exists.

“Many nations who either once looked to her for assistance or leadership will rather now seek not to be openly associated with Nigeria. As if that was not bad enough, those who dared not look us in the face at one time are no longer restrained in making scurrilous statements about us.

“We seem to have fallen, like Humpty Dumpty, from an Olympian Height. Indeed like Humpty Dumpty, we are blessed with great men and women. However, unlike Humpty Dumpty, I believe we can put Nigeria together again in a manner of speaking.”

He, however, said putting Nigeria together again would not happen simply by saying so, which he pointed out was indeed “a starting point and a good one that indicates the people’s resolve. It will also require everyone to unite their minds so that action can also be united.

Car Talk › First Potential Look At The N1.2million Nigerian Made Cars - Pics by nduchucks(op): 8:44pm On Dec 29, 2013
All things being equal, these Smart cars which are abundantly available in India, Brazil, and even the USA, in my opinion, are the only cars which can be assembled in Nigeria and sold to the public profitably, at the N1million - N1.2million price range.

Nwanne m, I'd rather but a 1998 Toyota Corolla brought in from Benin than any of these cars. What about you?

They may need to revise the budget for these cars, since they will cost at least twice their current prices because of the new GEJ tariff regime. Does anyone know whether waivers have been issued by the Feds for these cars or is Lagos State planning to buy the N1.2 million Nigerian made vehicles for the royal fathers?

Those Royal fathers have high taste and I do not believe that they will be willing to drive any car similar to this Smart car: https://theblondeside.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/IMG_0631-300x200.jpeg

Ngwakwe: The scales will fall off your eyes after APC States and National Congresses are held.

I remember so many Governors, Senators, HORs and Chieftains who lost out in party primaries, defected to another party and realised their ambitions eg. Mimiko, Ohakim even Ngige.

The promise of automatic ticket to defecting PDP members will surely hit a dead end when their counterparts in APC compete for the same seats then most of them will move back or decamp to PDP
The Reps and Senators who have moved or are moving to APC, simply followed their Governors to APC. They know that in their states, their seats will be similarly guaranteed by their Governors. Even if they are given automatic tickets as PDP candidates, they will not be able to sail through their elections easily, since they will not enjoy their governors' support. Wake up!! Its over. smiley

Lets await INEC's announcements. Its 2015 or bust!!!! I suspect their will be 99% votes in support of APC's presidential candidate in 2015, in all the states under seige by both the JTF and BH.

Sincere 9gerian: Its not enough to move the thread. My request was that it should be made un-sticky. It should be released to move like other normal threads.
The Mods or Seun should be able to tell us the wisdom behind making those threads stickies but I can't think of any objective reason to make the thread you complained about a sticky thread, though I understand that it is Mods' or Oga's prerogative to do so.

I've observed that our Mods are not touching this issue, even with a 10 foot pole and that makes one wonder.
Politics › Open Letter: Ribadu Supports Obasanjo by nduchucks(op): 12:10am On Dec 29, 2013
Former Chairman of the Economic and Finacial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, declared yesterday that ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo’s recent open letter to President Goodluck Jonathan was a good development for Nigeria.

Obasanjo, he said, deserved commendation for saying what other Nigerians lacked the courage to say to the authorities.

Ribadu, who spoke in Abuja, was confident that the letter would bring something positive to Nigeria in the long run.

He said the ruling PDP was fighting a lost battle against Nigerians.

“What is going on today is a war between Nigerians and PDP. People are living PDP because they want to be on the side of Nigerians, going by the level of anti people policies of the party and its impunity amongst others,” the APC chieftain said.

“Nigerians now understand that PDP is fighting them while APC symbolises the platform for change where every Nigerian of goodwould will actualise their dreams of a united and prosperous nation”

Ribadu reiterated APC’s commitment to transforming Nigeria and urged those yet to decide to join the train of APC to do so and be part of history.

“APC will never allow universities to go on strike for months. We will fight corruption for sure and tackle insecurity and the ravaging poverty in Nigeria,” Ribadu said.

I didn't see this post earlier because the thread was moved to the travel section.

Oga, the label you are attempting to place on me will not work and your lame attempt to discredit me is dead on arrival. Most patrons of the politics section will never classify ndu_chucks as a political jobber or a goon. I call things as I see them and unlike you people, I am not shy at pointing out the President's failures and successes.

In this post, in the thread The Most Uncelebrated Achievements Of President Goodluck Jonathan, I celebrated some of the President's achievements.

I challenge you to show that you are balanced, by providing only a single link to a post which was critical of the President. As far as folks like you are concerned, the President can never do anything wrong. People like you who do not tell him the truth, are more responsible for his impending doom, than the man himself.

Because of the fragile power rotating unwritten rule/agreement which has kept the country together for decades. Feel free to deny that it exists if you wish, but realities show otherwise.

@OP, Dangote is neither a politician nor a foolish businessman who would allow incompetent PDP agents to use him in a fight they've already lost. Dangote will stay away from the ongoing political tug of war, but will maintain great relationships with both parties.

Ngwakwe: Don't worry, there is high level consultation going on behind close doors to woo Mallam Nuhu Ribadu to PDP as replacement for Sambo in a bid to reassure independent minded Nigerians of GEJ's outright resolve to go all out against corrupt Oligarchs and Elites in his second term.
You at least admit that the PDP ship is sinking but I guess you have not read the following statement by Ribadu which he made only yesterday:

Nuhu Ribadu: People are leaving PDP for APC because they needed change. APC symbolized the position of majority of Nigerians.

We are happy to be the platform for change that Nigerians are yearning for.
Politics › VP Namadi Sambo Jittery Over Mass Defection From PDP To APC by nduchucks(op): 5:52pm On Dec 28, 2013
Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Namadi Sambo is currently in the state of despair over recent political tsunami ravaging his party, the Peoples’ Democratic Party.

Report according to THE NATION online suggested that all is not well in the political camp of Vice-President.

There is disquiet in the camp in the wake of erosion of his power base in Kaduna and the Northwest zone occasioned by mass defection of members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The zone comprises Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Jigawa, Kebbi, Zamfara and Sokoto states.

Alhaji Sambo was until his emergence as Vice President the governor of Kaduna State.

The PDP has already lost Governors Rabiu Kwankwaso of Kano State, Aliyu Wamakko of Sokoto State and many federal and state legislators in the zone to the APC.

A former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Yaro Audi Makama, during the week led 74 stakeholders in PDP in Kaduna State, including seven former members of the State House of Assembly, to the APC.

There are indications that GEJ is planning to dump Samboi, one of his most trusted and loyal supporters and VP, in order to achieve his own selfish goal instead of looking out for he best interest of the PDP.

There are chatters arround Abuja that Sambo himself may very well defect to APC to checkmate GEJ, if Sambo is disgraced by being refused the VP ticket. cheesy

It is not by accident that those who are villifying Sanusi on this thread while discarding OAM4J's thoughts as unreasonable, and those who are promoting Elumelu as a ideal candidate for the CBN top post; are essentially GEJ apologists or they hail from either the SE or ND area.

Tribalism should not be a factor in picking a qualified candidate for such an important job. Its a disgrace and utter shame to see the exhibition of tribalism by the very people who are supposed to be learned. SMH

Okenze Osuigwe: Considering the type of experience we had with Awolowo, and for us to start any one then with a Yoruba man, we would be killed before he finished his tenure. What Awolowo did to us! I was in Enugu when he was released from prison and brought to Enugu.

He was imprisoned for treasonable felony, but Ojukwu released him. He got to Enugu, and in my presence while he was addressing the people, he said that once he got to Ibadan he was going to declare the Oduduwa Republic. shocked We called him and escorted him up to Benin; and by that time it had been rumoured that the Federal Government would attack us.

But what happened was that when he returned home, Gowon made him Minister of Finance and Special Adviser. Awolowo's first decision after the war was that no Igbo man got more than N20.SMH I had so much Brifran money because the money I got from during my service was still intact. Under that condition, how could the Igbos support the emergence of a Yoruba man after that hassle? So, we were involved, and Babangida was our man. He took that decision with our backing.....
This thread does not do justice to Osuigwe's interview by focusing on the its most devisive element.

Frankly, given the treachery and grand betrayal which Awolowo unleashed on the Igbos, after they orchestrated Awolowo's release, escorted him safely out of the area, a contrary reaction by the Igbo people would have shown that they were not humans but heavenly beings.

To be quite honest with you, I can't blame the Igbos. Awolowo is also known to be the brainchild of the starvation policy which significantly contributed to the deaths of thousands of women and children during the civil war.

With friends like Awo, who needs enemies?
