Politics › Jonathan Running A ‘Robber Government’ – Tinubu by nduchucks(op): 7:51am On Jan 01, 2014
A national leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Tinubu, has lamented the manner in which the Federal Government handled the alleged missing $11 billion (N1.7 trillion).

The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Lamido Sanusi, had, in a recent letter to President Goodluck Jonathan, alleged that the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, did not remit about $49 billion (N7.8 billion) to the government’s coffers. Mr. Lamido later recanted, saying only $11 billion was not returned. He explained that CBN did not capture the figures of the allocations to the Federal Inland Revenue Service, FIRS, and Department of Petroleum Resources, DPR.

Mr. Tinubu said in its poor handling of the controversy, the government had portrayed itself as a “robber government,” that deserved to be swept out of power with the APC’s broom.

He said the country had regrettably degenerated to the extent that losing such a huge amount had become a sign of fiscal rectitude.

In a New Year message to Nigerians, Mr. Tinubu argued that in an atmosphere of good governance, the money should not be missing and if it happened to, senior officials of the government should by now be under criminal investigation by the police.

“Under this administration, the matter is swept aside as if a minor thing, like a broken tea cup on the floor. If this government can treat a missing $11 billion like a minor accounting infraction, much more than a teacup needs to be swept away. This robber government needs to feel the broom and the sweep of change as well,” Mr. Tinubu said.
The Yoruba Crown is sacred! There are two of them - the beaded crown and the coronet.

An Oba elect as well as regents wear coronets but only an Oba is allowed to wear the beaded crown.

Under the coronet you are 'a divinity'. This is what the transcendantal means.
hmmm, this explanation sounds like one which could have been promulgated by one Negro_Ntn.
Yoruba women do not wear Babanriga.

Yoruba culture is cognizant of the male/female attributes and duality present in the cosmos and therefore there is no gender discrimination in a woman suited in Agbada if her office calls for it. She is at moment transcendental of her feminine gender.
Transcendental of her feminine gender? Try to explain what this means in simple terms if you are able. This idea of cross dressing as a cultural phenomenon is, to say the least, eye opening and borders on what many Yoruba people would classify as an abomination.

Is this practice limited to Akure or this type of Dan Daudu (cross dressing) attire common in Yoruba land?

DerideGull: Mr. Chuck,

I can not mange to place my finger on the pause of your recent show of idiocy. It is apparently not being exposed to education but skewed intellect. Before the likes of Ahmadu Bello and SL Akintola started spewing crap about Igbo dominance in northern western regions, the eastern region has already embraced the people from other tribes and regions. In 1956, Enugu elected the first mayor and he was a Fulani from Sokoto named Mallam Umaru Altine. Mrs Adetutu Adesida-Dike is a Yoruba and her ascendancy to the local village Yoruba throne is very inconsequential in nature.
This is the very reason why my heart breaks when the tribalists, secessionists, and separatists among you people start exhibiting gross, senseless bigotry on NL. You people were not like this until you tried to fight your misguided war. Unfortunately, many of you have been so damaged by the said war that you remain unable to see value in the unity of this great country - to your detriment, I might add.

ezeagu: Enugu's first mayor was a Fulani, and Azikiwe tried to be One Nigeria with his whole Western Nigeria political campaign.
That was over 50 years ago. I am talking about modern day Nigeria here. We need to see this kind of gesture in the SE of today, start by giving us an Obi or real Eze of the fulani extraction. Be bold and make it happen today.

This is the way things should be, we already have a Youruba lady representing a Northern state in the senate, now we have a potential Igbo Oba in the SW. We need similar results in the SE as well, a Fulani Eze or Obi would indicate political maturity.

Here's a phoograph of Princess Adetutu Adesida- Dike, the first daughter of the late traditional ruler of Akureland, who was installed as the new regent in Akure. Are women allowed to wear Babanriga in Akure?

Odumakin: It is therefore in the best interest of all that all those who are possibly plotting to cause crisis in the country perish the thought and allow the National Conference to proceed seamlessly so that the people of Nigeria can proffer their own solutions to our challenges so we can emerge a united and prosperous entity from the table of brotherhood.
The problem with people like Odumakin is essentially ignorance of the machinations of democracy. While freedom of speech is guaranteed in the constitution, utterances such as the one made by OBJ in his letter, and by Odumakin in his article, should promptly cause an immediate invitation and vigorous interview by the SSS, for clarification.

We have OBJ, Odumakin, Asari, Boko Haram, and others running amok and making threats against the Nigerian people, yet the commander-in-chief appears impotent in dealing with these threats.

The truth of the matter is, the feared coup has already taken place and it was orchestrated by the President's own advisers. No time in the history of Nigeria has any head of state enjoyed so little goodwill among the masses. The handwriting is already on the wall - this regime is a goner.

The National Conference is useless as long as we have a constitution and the national assembly who makes our laws. Ironically, it is the very coup which Odumakin is worried about, which can cause the dissolution of NASS and force the convening of a Sovereign National Conference.

Nigerians will welcome such a coup with open arms. It is my view, however, that this coup is not forthcoming and our best bet for now is a democratic regime change. APC may be our very last hope. May the New Year bring glad tidings of joy to all Nigerians.
Without any shadow of doubt, Kaduna was for the opposition during th 2011 elections and the opposition only got rigged, so I won't be entirely surprise if they move their tent to APC.

However, it is not about decamping to APC, rather, are these people ready to turn the leaf and provide Nigerians with good governance? Are they prepared to embrace democratic values, ensure development and peace prevail in their respective LGAs? These are the pertinent questions that we should be asking ourselves instead of celebrating that they are leaving PDP to join forces with APC.
Good questions. I am willing to wait for the answers until after we've had regime change at the Presidential level. If the decamping of these people is in furtherance of that overall objective, its OK by me.
Politics › Re: Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Cabinet As A Prime Minister by nduchucks: 12:02am On Dec 31, 2013
DerideGull: Mayor, it will be difficult to list ministers under Balewa's leadership from 60-66. The turnover of ministerial appointment was simply ridiculous because of change of political rule, party interest and loyalty. It was more stable under the partial colonial rule than when Nigeria gained independence.

Let me give you a likely scenario under partial colonial rule. K O Mbadiwe ministerial appointment in Ministry of Commerce ended in 1958 because his loyalty to NCNC was doubted and he bolted from NCNC to UNDP. He lost his appointed to Zana Dipcharima in 1958. Also in education, Adegoke Adelabu was engulfed with trumped up changes of embezzlement, he lost his appointment to Aja Nwachukwu. Dr EML Endeley lost his Labor ministries because of his issues with NCNC. Ribadu also switched with Abubakar Balewa in the ministry of defense in 1961 thereby making way for Yusuf Maitama Sule in Mines and Power.
Mr. Gull, to ward off charges or revisionism, where is your source of this information? We know you hardly make things up. lipsrsealed

DerideGull: You are an enigma. Most respondents, before or after your post including the poster, are imbecilic tribal bigots or egocentric dunces . The listed ministerial appointment is not for the government headed by Tafawa Balewa from 1960 however it was a cabinet led by the colonialists determined by the 1956 federal election. It was a pre-independence cabinet which Tafawa Balewa was a minister of defense. Nonetheless, the list missed one important name as history would have demanded.
Mr. Gull, your admonition is grossly misdirected. The OP's title stated that the said cabinet was Tafawa Balew'a cabinet as a Prime Minister and musiwa set the record straight. You yourself supported musiwa's position by confirming that Tafawa Balewa was a minister of defense in the time period mentioned by the OP. In case you are still blind, here's what the OP stated "Prime Minister Abubakar Tafawa Balewa 1957–1966".

Yet you come here to spew balderdash. You should be correcting the OP. ode

May I suggest that you do not limit yourself to trying to reinvent the wheel. When your project is finished, take a look at these finished helicopters . many of them can be flown via remote controlled transmitters. Take one or 2 of these and try to replicate or improve on their design. where there is a will, there is a way. Good luck
Keep your poor guesses to yourself Mr Used Car Dealer. I am perfectly informed with regard to this new policy and I am 100% in support of it. If thousands of Nigerians lose their livelihoods because of it, hundreds of thousands, and even millions will gain a livelihood they currently don't have. I know to the Archetypal Selfish Black Man like you, your individual stomach is the greatest issue facing mankind, but fortunately for the rest of us, your stomach is going to have to be sacrificed for the greater good.
Get that into your head.
Talk to me as a reasonable adult here. Why do you think that a 250% increase in tariffs is necessary to support an automobile manufacturing (assembly) industry which is still in its infancy and why couldn't tariffs be introduced gradually, if they think it is absolutely necessary? If indeed quality new cars can be assembled and sold for N1.2million, why not let these cars compete in the open market for market share? Please answer these questions honestly and lets discuss the merits of the 250% increase in tariffs.

Mind you, I support the government's efforts at encouraging these assembly plants. I hope you can educate me on why the new tariff is justified.
He is not ignorant, I repeat. He is deliberately telling lies! He said "why allow govt cronies to IMPORT brand new cars"? This, despite the title of the thread and the policy it references being about assembling or manufacturing cars in Nigeria. So how can one import a new vehicle into Nigeria and at the same time assemble or manufacture it in Nigeria?
Which one is it?

So you can see these are not your ordinary Nairaland dum dums, these guys are sophisticated liars and internet propagandists and you need to analyse their posts and take them on with all seriousness. The fate of Nigeria can rest on how well you destroy their points because if you allow even the tiniest lie of theirs to get through unopposed to infect the psyche of the general public viewing Nairaland, it could become a case of the lie being repeated often enough to become accepted as true.
These people are paid posters, they are not ordinary fo.ols.
I suppose you are ignorant of the fact that the Feds plan to increase tariffs on imported cars by 250% and they claim that this will help bolster the auto manufacturing industry. It is very reasonable to encourage the Automobile manufacturing (assembly) industry by incentivizing them with grants, even tax incentives, and other effective means. No one objects to that. What is objectionable is the abrupt increase in tariff on import cars by 250% at the expense of thousands ofNigerians who will lose their livelihoods because of the act. The impending increase in tariff is outright dumb.

solomon111: One thing i know is that if Nigerians allows car dealers to influence them against this great policy, then we should stop fooling ourselves about how great we want Nigeria to be.
It means we want to remain a poor nation with high scale unemployment and low industrial base.
Supporting the Auto manufacturing (assembly) industry is one thing, but foolishly raising tariffs on import cars by 250% while the policy makers continue to issue waivers to themselves to import their own cars is not only foolish and unreasonable, but also wicked.
Hyundai and Kia cars start below 1.2m even without assembling them in Nigeria and they are becomIng IncreasIngly popular amongst the mIddle class. The picanto starts at N1, 179, 000 the i10 starts at about 1m, while the getz and accent are roughly 1.4m for low trim levels. Nissan is a brand of repute and they're capable of doing what the Koreans are mastering- combining economy with class.

It's true that the average Nigerian would rather satisfy his craving for luxury than trade off for utility even if several others would afford their daily meals off that sacrifice. I'm sure most wealthy Indians didn't like it when Ghandi made them wear locally spun cloth but it was for the good of the Indian economy. The public needs to be educated and properly orientated - we are all responsible for building the nation.
Please do not decieve people with misinformation. Here is a brand new Kia Picanto which hit the UK for £10.245, yet you want us to believe that it starts at N1.179,000. Do you think that the car companies are in business to do Nigerians a favour by selling cars to them at cost or lower?

You see, if the Kia Picanto is sold at the price you quoted, the car must have been stripped of safty features, comfort features, and made of materials which will scatter upon a major accident - materia which would be closer to plastic than the typical material used for real Kia Picanto.

If you doubt what I am saying, go to any Nigerian dealership, say a Honda dealership, and take a look at the Dubai imported or South Africa assembled cars and compare to a Tokunbo and the difference will be clear.

Trust me, when the manufacturers tell you that they are tropicalizing their cars for the Nigerian marker, they mean stripping them of safety features and reducing quality significantly.

What you'll get for N1.2million cannot be very safe cars. What the government should be promoting is true manufacturing, i. e. from scratch. They should be encouraging our Engineers to design great products, give us uninterruptible power, and most of all, jump start Ajaokuta so that we can at least, manufacture a single nail from scratch!!

Here is the £10.245 Kia Picanto:

In a statement yesterday, Lagos PDP Chairman, Hon. Olatunji Shelle, said the governor’s ‘Humpty Dumpty’ comment about the situation in the country was in particular exaggerated and misplaced.
