Tolexander: since u believe there should be a proof to every news.
Provide a proof and link that there are 201 gods!
Provide a link that Ooni has worship just only one God!
These are questions you must answer pronto!
I would have preferred that you tried to provide corroboration for your stance instead of asking me for proof. Since you don't appear to know the answers to these questions, I'll tell you the source of my information which I believe is better than hearsay by some faceless elders.

Provide a proof and link that there are 201 gods!
My information came from the book "City of 201 Gods: Ile Ife In Time, Space and the Imagination’ and In My Father’s Parsonage" by Harvard University Professor of World Religion, Prof. J. K. Olupona. I did not get the information from some illeterate chief who is ready to sell his soul for N100,000.

The truth of the matter is that you people do not even know exactly how many deities you have. I bet you cannot name 30 of the deities, if you can name only 30 of the 201 or 401 of them, I will offer you a public apology, right here and now.

Provide a link that Ooni has worship just only one God!
This seems like a dumb question. I think it is safe to assume that the Ooni is a Christian who is dedicated enough to build a Church inside the palace. Now if you claim that, the Alafin, like many confused Christians in the SW, also worship other juju gods, you may have a point, though you are yet to prove that either.

Tolexander: haw does it affects me if you bought it or not? I narrated my own memoir of the incidence of what i heard from chiefs and priest you are asking for a link that has nothing to do with your daily living.
If you are not satisfied with it, then leave it or better still go to the palace and ask the ooni himself for full confirmation.
Chinua Achebe wrote his own memoir of the civil war, did he provide a link for it, or is he an ominiprescent that was present and witnessed every events that preceded and during the civil war? Yet you stil believed he said the truth!
Oga, it appears you are not up to the task of defending your stance. You are yet to convince me that a lie detector was used to extract your information from the chiefs, priests, and elders. Oga mi dey compare himself to Achebe o, e gba mi o.

Tolexander: am in ife town schooling from childhood. And besides i have elders who are chiefs and clergy that always go to the palace often that do tell me what happens in the palace in enuwa.
Do i need giving a link to what i know?
With due respect, I need more than tales from elders to buy what you've said. As you can tell from this thread, many Yoruba sons have differing opinions about the origin and role of the Ooni, so the facts that you schooled in Ife town and certain elders told you certain things, are not convincing enough for me. Such a pronouncement by the Ooni and its accompanying renunciation must have been publicized or documented. Please provide any evidence you have other than hearsay to make your claims believable

Tolexander: bro! It is not 201 gods but 401 deities.
Ooni doesn't serve one god. He participates in every spiritual appease to many of the deities either in appearance or absential, most especially olojo festival of ogun worshipping that always take place in oke moogun.
Few years ago he tried renouncing idol worshipping and said he wouldn't be participating in that years olojo festival but he became sick to the point of death and had no choice and faith than to revert his renounciation.
Igbos mostly practice catholism and catholism has its roman culture acquisition to the christianity they practise like all these xmas, rosery and co likewise yorubas with the christianity diluted with indigenous religions.
This is quite interesting. Can you provide any evidence to support the idea that Ooni became sick because of his renunciation of idol worshiping? It appears to have been a coincidence at best, if Ooni was sick right after the said renunciation. Secondly, I'd appreciate any evidence to support the notion that Ooni reverted the renunciation.

I'm here to learn. Have you been satisfied in your mind that these deities are more than a mere figment of your imagination? If so please share with me how you arrived at the conclusion. Thanks in advance.

I feel sorry for the confused lot who have 201 gods who are pulling them every which way. The Ooni who serves only one God seems to be wiser than you people. If Ooni's actions do not show you that your 201 gods are useless, nothing else will. No wonder the most SW muslims seems incapable of practicing true Islam and most of their Christian "Pastors" are money pastors. SMH

I'd suggest that people should not wastre their time in trying to reason with people like narrow minded babapupa. His "cogent" points are usually filled with name calling and other abuses just like eko ile's.

In a way the new policy appears to be a very good one, but in another, it seems to have not been well thought out. I believe the discrepancy may lie in the reporting of the ban.

Local auto manufacturers cannot meet the demand which will result from this new policy hence the ban imposed on Ministries, Departments, and Agencies should have been gradual. They could have required 10 - 15% of the vehicles to be purchased from local manufactures the first few years, for starters.

It is noteworthy that this policy does not affect the legislative or judiciary wings. I hope the publicize the new policy for all to see soon.

busoye19: "I seriously call attention to the rutilanting and coruscating modus vivendi of Master Jesus the Christ and I dare pontificate that save and until we viscerally emblematize the virtues of self-immolation, quintessential abnegation, eulogizeable simplicity, humility and immerse ourselves in a platonic emotionalism of agape love and communalistic service and head to unity as one nation," the Edo State law graduate stated.
If Obahiagbon wrote the above, then for the first time, he has failed woefully. That sentence is an incomplete sentence when fails to take the point Obahiagbon was making to its logical conclusion. He "pontificates that save and until" we espouse certain ideals including immersing ourselves in agape love" then something will happen...but he fails to tell us what that something is.

You are a great commentator and you would cut off much of your oppositions if you can also be a great listener. This is end of my feedback. wink
I agree with you 100% on this. Uncle Gbawe has become very combative when his views are challenged particularly when the said views concern ACN Governors. Don't dare ask those ACN Governors for accountability else Uncle Gbawe will become extremely emotional and react very "violently" that is if he does not ignore you and deem your challenge not worthy of response. Sadly he is quickly becoming the Beaf of ACN.

This new behaviour is why he will not win the Poster of the year award this year. Lets hope the new year will bring forth a new Uncle Gbawe who listens to his constructive critics.

Two Things.

(1)This news must be a disappointment to secessionists and those who believe that our dear country will break up soon. Investors are more realistic and optimistic than the said unpatriotic secessionists.

(2)Many of the states, if not all, have become quite lazy in the area of generating revenues. The get billions from the Feds for free, yet they are unable to generate income streams for their states. Why must they burden incoming generations with unnecessary debt. These states and their lazy governors should be operating under a debt free balanced budget.

Six persons died in the Saturday crash of the Agusta helicopter in the Bayelsa Creek. They included the governor of Kaduna state, Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa and the former National Security Adviser, Andrew Owoye Azazi, their aides, the pilot and co-pilot.

May the dead RIP.

Conspiracy theorists are already having a field day with this tragedy. People have started implying that BH may be behind this and suggesting that BH used this occasion to get rid of Azazi, who tried to expose them and was fired for doing so, and Yakowa, who has kept them in check in Kaduna - BH essentially killed 2 birds with a single shoulder carried grenade launcher, the proverbial stone.
rotflmao!!!

There is a corporate strategy based on the science of "flooding and damming" and I dont know what the theory is called but I understand the concept well. It is believed the US applied this strategy politically to dismember USSR and force capitalism on them. China is doing exactly the same thing to US now. Here is how it works:

You pump investment into your rival's market and economy (flooding) and generate high volume of money circulation which invokes a false sense of worth. Putting faith in their swollen discretionary money, citizens respond massively in increased consumption, which in turn produces more loans and debts. When the society is soaked in overlays of debts, you begin to use soft instruments of debts to rescue people out of their tangible and secured debts.......in other words escalate the burdens. People will soon learn, painfully, to conserve and live within their means. This action is bad for market and business and therefore business owners begin to conserve and shrink. When supply is more than demand of goods and services thhe currency devalues, worth and values shrink, the market implodes on itself (dam).

This strategy can be applied to various aspects of social living. Aplying it to the demographics, the Igbos who form the main target of hatred in the North, can "dam" their population volume and turn the hatred to Hausa-Fulani-Kanuri rivalry.

Israel continues to enjoy political relevance because of the Palestinian issue. If the conflict ends, Israel will not be an everyday topic in news and will soon be irrelevant in corridors of global power......so the war must continue.

The day Igbo depart core North their jihadist will loose cause against Christianity and turn the dagger and bombs against one another in a new rivalry that will depose the Emirs. Can Igbo do that, I doubt it. grin

......be sure to train desert jihadists how to swim before they embark on a journey to Isale Eko. We will use them as blood sacrifice to Olokun, fill Eko Atlantic with their drowned carcass.
awww, what a beautiful composition. Great writing skills, people like Desola and naijababe will cry after reading the above. The problem with the post is that it is nothing short of crap. The Chinese have not defeated the Americans as you erroneously believe. If the US economy goes down the drain, billions of Chinese will die as collateral damage. Think about that.

Gbawe: You don't get it. Every opportunity to discuss ideas is always turned into clannish obfuscation on this forum and you are one of those serially guilty of doing that. Who does not know Nigeria is gradually becoming Somalia? the point of this sort of thread is for discussion to flow that may provide the sense of perspective that will make Nigerians see what they need to see.
Uncle Gbawe, you seem to be afraid to talk o. Little me, cannot hurt a fly, so please feel free to express yourself. Kindly explain what you mean by "this sort of thread is for discussion to flow that may provide the sense of perspective that will make Nigerians see what they need to see."

What exactly do Nigerians need to see that they have not seen?

For once, they are not blaming Fulanis for this Yoruba problem. It is interesting to note that Yorubas have 201 gods shocked No wonder confusion is not very far from my Yoruba people - they don't know which god to serve hence many become atheists or are unable to serve the ONE God with the required dedication. Yoruba Muslims are generally regarded as being unable to practice true Islam while many Christians 'practice' the religion while maintaining a working relationship with juju men in the village.

The book is very interesting and should be a must read.

LAGOS — Eminent Yoruba leaders, Thursday, concurred that the Yoruba race was on the brink of extinction if something is not done quickly to revitalise its cultural values and heritage.

The Yoruba leaders who spoke during the public presentation of two books, City of 201 Gods: Ile Ife In Time, Space and the Imagination’ and In My Father’s Parsonage: The Story of an Anglican Family in Yoruba- speaking Nigeria included Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State, his Ekiti State counterpart, Dr. Kayode Fayemi; Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuade and Olowu of Owu Kingdom, Oba Olusanya Adegboyega Dosunmu.

This also was the position of virtually every other eminent member of the race who either spoke at the podium or chatted exclusively with Vanguard at the launch of the book authored by Harvard University Professor of World Religion, Prof. J. K. Olupona under the chairmanship of Ibadan-based politician, Chief Olanihun Ajayi.

Interestingly, the book launch, planned for just presentation and gathering of financial proceeds, became a gathering of politicians, religious leaders and traditional icons from trado-religious groups.

https://vml1.s3.amazonaws.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/J.-K.-Olupona.jpg?9d7bd4

Clad in brown aso oke with an eleti aja cap to match, the author said the books were products of his endless struggle exploring world religion. He gave a reason why true Yoruba man could not be a religious fundamentalist, saying: “A people who have 201 gods cannot have a problem with one more God.” cheesy

In his brief speech, Governor Kayode Fayemi of EkitiState, observed that Yoruba was so unique in Nigeriaand world history because it was the only multi-religious community where people sit together without hurting or killing themselves.
.
.
.
.
In his speech, Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State, who stole the show for a moment as he was the only speaker ushered to the podium with extract from a tract and talking drums sounds, cool promised to mobilise his colleagues, governors, of the South-West states including Ondo to make the book, City of 201 Gods, a must read in all secondary schools across the region.
