awww, this look at how aj'okuta mamunmis and berebes are fighting on this thread. This confirms the agape love between these two groups, they cannot stay away from each other and truthfully, one group cannot survive without the other. May the union be blessed with wise and loving siblins.

Why are they offering her this UN appointment while she is awaiting the world bank job and also busy with he Ministerial duties in Nigeria? I hope this is not some sort of wayo wayo activity to prevent her from getting the world bank job. Do they want to kill her with all these duties? SMH

Nigeria’s Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, was on Tuesday named by the United Nations Secretary-Geneeral, Ban Ki-moon, as a member of a 27-member body to tackle childhood malnutrition.

As Okonjo-Iweala waits for the result of an interview process for the presidency of the World Bank, the UN’s Department of Public Information on Tuesday said she and some heads of state and other reputable individuals would be part of the panel, Scaling Up Nutrition, which would focus on improving nutrition as a key to progress in health and development.

The group is to represent the many countries, organidations and sectors working to improve nutrition, and serve as a strategic guide for the global movement.

SUN is committed to advancing the strength and security of nations by improving maternal and child nutrition. SUN, is a global push for action and investment to improve maternal and child nutrition.

“Never before have so many leaders, from so many countries and fields, agreed to work together to improve nutrition,” said Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, as he explained that “the SUN movement gives all of us, including the UN, an opportunity to support countries in their efforts to end hunger and malnutrition.”

Okonjo-Iweala will be joining the lead group which includes heads of state from countries that have prioritized efforts to scale up nutrition, as well as representatives of the donor, civil society, business and UN system organizations that are aligning resources to help SUN countries drive progress.

tenisuga: The election on that other thread started before campaign and it wont end in a year. Also it is not good to have the nominees nominated only by the OP so we are starting properly afresh.

The only thing we are carrying over from that thread is Desola volunteering to be the Olori (Wife) to the Aare. So she is additional price for the winner, that is if she herself is not nominated and voted as the Aare
Ok o, but almost 100 votes were cast for these people, why throw those away? The end date on that thread means nothing.

Desola ke? dat babe will chop off the kings head and turn herself into Queen Amina of the kingdom.

ngwanu, add Ndu_Chucks as a nominee then.
Politics › Re: GEJ Commissions Almajiri Model School In Sokoto by nduchucks: 3:00am On Apr 11, 2012
I applaud the President for championing the education of the most marginalized Nigerians, the Almajiris. Each school opened will get hundreds, if not thousands of potential BH members off the streets.

As articulated by Obama just yesterday, Nigerians are hungry for progress and improvement in their lives, but northern Nigerians feel this need most acutely. Life in Nigeria may be tough for many, but life in the North is grim for almost all. There is strong sentiment throughout the North - that government is not on the side of the people and their poverty is a result of government neglect, corruption, and abuse. This action by the President is a big step towards changing this perception. Kudos to GEJ.

So will the North participate if SNC is convened?
I am telling you that the issue of North against the National Conference is over; we now say we are ready anytime the conference is convened.

NorthSharp: Thanks for these heart-warming words. I have since learnt how to ignore such ethnic insults on this forum, as painful as they are!
This is excellent. This kind of thick skin and maturity is very essential, when one operates in forums like NL or even in other set ups such as NASS. One can always find useful information in the middle of their insults. I for one, understand that many of them use those insults as a way of venting their frustrations. They all really want a successful Nigeria, but are frustrated at our elite who continue to screw us up and inject tribal hatred in our mist as a way of keeping us in check.

Now, being understanding does not mean that one has to roll over every time one is confronted. I myself have been known to call folks like Eze Onlytruth, dullard, olodo, or cretin smiley which he is, but reigning a curse at a whole tribe is actually quite childish and unnecessary.

You sir, are a gentleman.

Onlytruth: Nwanne I'm imagining how airports at Owerri, Onitsha and Enugu would boost the economy of the SE and Igboland.
Methinks that all the other infrastructure will start trickling in once these airports become fully international, because foreign visitors and investor would troop there! I have been wanting to come to Nigeria with my partners, but I know that I cannot bring them to land in Lagos or Abuja and then drive all the way to Enugu. It is a risk I cannot allow them to take. There are many Igbo like myself who want to bring in investors and professionals, but are hindered by lack of international airport in SE. I would NEVER board a local flight in Nigeria. I become more determined about never boarding a local flight after the Sosoliso debacle at Port Harcourt.
I only board international airlines. Period! cool
nwanne, Eze NL Gburugburu, in civilized societies, interest groups join hands and fight for their common interests. What is the essence of the SE riggedblock votes for GEJ, if your leaders cannot demand and get one or two major projects from the President? Imaginations alone will not bring any airport to the SE, you people have to hold GEJ accountable or you would have been used up, once again.

Kano International airport is being upgraded as we speak, GEJ is headed to Sokoto to commission a Almajiri school in a few hours - as part of a multi billion naira educational effort to help the grossly marginalized Northerners. These projects are not taking place because of any imagination but because of pressure on the President. When are you people going to get off your rear ends and learn how to operate within our democracy instead of crying and running around being victims? You better get behind Nnamani to mae your demands known, TODAY. Lets hope NnMni's interests coincides with Ndigbo's .

Unfortunately, so are the Eastern, Western, and Southern borders. We are a very vulnerable nation. A real external threat to the whole country may very well be what we need to push us towards unity. Tribalism would go out of the window instantly, replaced by nationalism.
Politics › Boko Haram Guerrillas Have Seized Control Of The Town Of Gao In Northern Mali by nduchucks(op): 12:21am On Apr 10, 2012
Just great. GEJ, commander-in-chief, sir, hope you had apriori intelligence on this matter.

At least 100 of Boko Haram guerrillas on Monday seized control of the town of Gao in Northern Mali, news agencies reportedly quoted Abu Sidibe, a Local Deputy Governor in the country to have said.

“There are a good 100 Boko Haram fighters in Gao. They are Nigerians and from Niger,” Mr Sidibe was quoted to have said.

“They’re not hiding. Some are even able to speak in the local tongue, explaining that they are Boko Haram,” he added.

The news was confirmed also by the Bamako security forces.

Militants from Boko Haram “were in a majority among those who attacked the Algerian consulate” in Gao on Thursday, a Malian security official said, adding that “they had black skin”.
Seven Algerian diplomats, including the consul, were taken hostage at the time.

Mali has been grappling with a separatist uprising in the north. It intensified after the coup by army officers on 22 March.

Seven people were killed today, including a girl of seven, in a new wave of attacks launched by the Boko Haram Islamic group.

In Dikwa, Yobe state, the terrorists killed a policeman, a civilian and a local politician during the night, as made known by the Nigerian army.

They attacked a police station, a bank, and a hotel but was forced back by the soldiers, as lieutenant-colonel Sagir Musa, the Joint Task Force of the Borno State spokesperson announced.

Three of the guerillas were killed, the others, though injured, managed to run away.

Here are some facts about Boko Haram

THE GROUP

* Boko Haram became active in about 2003 and is concentrated mainly in the northern Nigerian states of Yobe, Kano, Bauchi, Borno and Kaduna.

* Boko Haram, which in the Hausa language of northern Nigeria means “Western education is sinful,” is loosely modelled on the Taliban movement in Afghanistan.

* The group considers all who do not follow its strict ideology as infidels, whether they be Christian or Muslim. It demands the adoption of sharia, or Islamic law, across Nigeria.

* Boko Haram followers have prayed in their own mosques in cities including Maiduguri, Kano and Sokoto, and wear long beards and red or black headscarves.

* The group published an ultimatum in January 2012 giving Christians three days to leave northern Nigeria. Since then, attacks in northeastern Nigeria have killed many and hundreds of Christians have fled to the south. President Goodluck Jonathan declared a state of emergency on Dec. 31 in an effort to contain the violence.

* Human Rights Watch said in January that the sect had killed at least 935 people since 2009.

* Jonathan said the violent sect had supporters within his own government and the insecurity the group had created was worse than during the civil war that broke out in 1967 and killed more than a million people.

* In a recent success, Nigeria arrested the purported spokesman for Boko Haram on Feb. 1, known as Abu Qaqa.

* Abu Qaqa, a shadowy figure and purported spokesman for Boko Haram said on March 20 it had “closed all possible doors of negotiation” with a government of “unbelievers” that it cannot trust, and called on Muslims to join the fight against it.

NorthSharp: The funny thing about all this, Mr. Sam_Ikenna, is that the particular poster you have been addressing in this your long argument on this debate (Ndu_Chuks) is NOT a Hausa-Fulani Northerner; he is, ironically, a southernerNigerian with Igbo blood running through his veins just like you!
The above is accurate to some extent in addition to other issues I'm unwilling to share. Lets not belabour this issue. My position on matters concerning Nigeria remain unshakable and bigots can go and hug several transformers for all I care.

I think its time we came out of archaic times and understood that we are better off as one nation and make our diversity, our greatest strengths. Our common enemies are the elite from Igbo, Hausa-Fulani, Yoruba, Ijaw, and other tribes/groups. Lets spend time on how to defeat them than on Ndu_chucks' origin.

My brother, rushing to judgement in these matters, is completely irresponsible since we don't have all the facts. It might interest you to note that Security Source are now claiming that Boko Haram’s major plan was to attack a Women Conference In Kaduna. Former Nigerian military leader General Yakubu Gowon was present at the women conference while NTA’s Moji Mokonjuola who is a member of the ECWA women fellowship moderated the event. Lets wait for more information before we call this an attack on Christians. It is the responsible thing to do.
