Politics › Re: Youwin Winners To Access Funds Within 72 Days by nduchucks: 2:10pm On Feb 04, 2012
Seun: My comment on CP-Africa:

I applaud this initiative because it’s better than almost anything else that could have been done with the “youth development” money. However, let us not forget that, at best, the success of the ventures funded under this program will be abysmal compared to what an experienced venture capitalist or a group of angel investors would achieve with the same amount of capital.

When you put billions of public funds into the hands of academics and bureaucrats and ask them to fund good ideas, it sounds great, but it won’t do anywhere near as much good as you would expect, because the operators have nothing to gain if the ventures succeed and nothing to lose if they fail.

Private investors lose their ability to invest when they invest unwisely. If the money is yours, you lose the money, and if it’s for your clients, they lose it and you are fired. This natural selection process weeds out dreamers and wishful thinkers and rewards rational and realistic investors with more capital. In the absence of such accountability, it’s almost impossible for anyone to make wise investment decisions, no matter how sincere.
+100

Lets hope they have similar programs geared towards proven and established small businessmen who can employ 10 or more youths by the kind of support which government agents can provide, such as, government backed small business loans, easier access to business enhancing resources e.t.c.

The dunces, dullards, and politically unsophisticated anound NLers cannot see that political jostling in preparation for 2015 has already begun. Fani Kayode is desperately trying to make himself relevant but everyone remembers his performance as a two-time minister.

The arrest of Sanusi, a Kano prince, may not be unrelated to trying to silence Sanusi who has never shied away from opposing Abacha, in his own little way, back then. It is a known fact that Sanusi wants to become the Emir of Kano and the Abacha boys will stop at nothing to try to stop him, even if it takes using the political jobber, Fani kayode.

The deep hatred between the SWers and SEers exhibited in this thread is the very reason why the breaking up of Nigeria is not wise and will lead to the greatest ethnic cleansing and human disaster in the history of the world. As for the SS, when the shiit hits the fan, you will be swallowed by the SE, unfortunately.

The Northerners who you all call, Malus, Abokis,  Almajiris, and other unflattering names are turning out to be the very group that will ultimately save you people from annihilating yourselves. For that I say, Alhamdulillah.

If a war ever breaks out between SWers and SEers and the North decides not to intervene, Rwanda will be child's play. A word is enough. Sorry to say, most of those of you posting here are hate filled and barbaric.

South-South have contributed Oil to Nigeria. The only thing Nigeria used to repay them is to destroy their livelihood. that to me is not fair.

SE oya defend yourselves since you shout more than the South-southerners themselves
Alhaji, we are not talking about natural resources put there by Allah which the SS people have nothing to do with. What have they contributed?

Their governors have received $1trillion or more to date, that is not a bad repayment if you ask me.  What portion of that money did they budget to reclaim their land which may have been destroyed by oil exploration? I do agree with you that, more should be done to clean up the damage.

What annoys me is that as soon as Shell and others payoff their elders, the companies are allowed to continue to exploit with impunity.
Politics › Re: What Does The Ss/se Contribute To Nigeria? by nduchucks: 12:21am On Feb 04, 2012
You are being quite unfair to our SS brothers who have not contributed anything tangible to Nigeria. They shamelessly call other Nigerians parasites when they themselves have absolutely nothing to do with the presence of  onshore oil in their region.

Given the billions of dollars (almost $1trillion) made available to their governors, they have been unable to develop fishing industry in the area - the lazy people should, minimally, be supplying all of Africa with deep sea fish by now. What a shame.

You fools should not attempt to celebrate the pogroms or make light of what actually happened. During the Araba pogroms before the war, Igbos were hunted down, house to house and lynched by mobs including Hausa, Yoruba, and other non Igbos.

An eyewitness told me that, it was a case of neighbors hunting down neighbors simply because the victim was Igbo. May we never experience such darkness in Nigeria.

You internet warriors spreading hatred and tribalism should be careful of what you may be inadvertently inciting. Be very careful.

Contrary to media reports that Abu Qaqa had been arrested, a source has confirmed to Daily Times the Boko Haram suspect arrested is Abu Darda who heads the head of the Lagina (Dept) of Public enlightenment . Abu Qaqa serves as the spokesman of the group and has been the interface with journalists since the beginning of the violent campaign.

This is the most backward thinking and uncivilized suggestion I've seen on NL to date. We must protect the civil rights of ALL Nigerians and every Nigerian deserves to be treated as such. How will you like to be handed over to a foreign country for an alleged crime? GEJ is the leader who needs to grow some balls.

He has already told us that he knows the players in this war - what else is needed from this spokesperson when GEJ has not acted on the information he already has?

At that time, rubber and oil palm were also developing Nigeria; along with cotton and groundnuts.
And guess what? Then the derivation was 50%, not 13% as it is today. So, who is getting cheated?

The simple solution to the problem is to call for true federalism.
Under true federalism, the disgraceful monthly trips to Abuja will cease in place of real productivity. I am quite sure the oil producing states would not mind bankrolling a fixed calendar and its modalities for fiscal Independence for all federating units.
Please provide some evidence that your 50% derivation is accurate otherwise we'll have to assume that you made the number up, if so, that would be dishonest.

BTW, I support 100% resource control relative to all inland resources including oil. Offshore is a different story.

You will likely believe that story if you heard it at the age of 10. That notwithstanding, in my statement, I called the "42 cups of tea" story a legend. Legend is defined as "an unverified story handed down from earlier times."
You are not the one I am concerned about because you've already shown a certain objectivity. Unfortunately, there are others among us who will believe the "legend" as facts if we don't show them how unreasonable it is.

Africans, even the so-called educated ones, believe unreasonable legends. For example, I know of many PhD holders who still believe that Oduduwa descended from Heaven accompanied by his lieutenants and landed at Ile-Ife.

I forgot that one. That was another popular legend. This legend has it that Balewa did not know the English tea etiquette and ended up drinking 42 cups at a conference in London before Zik came to his rescue.
Assuming that a cup of tea is 8oz (it is probably smaller), 24cups =10liters approx = 2.64 gallons. Is it possible for any human being to consume that much tea within a 30 -60 minute time span, after eating breakfast? Let us use our God given brains abeg.

Calm down guys. SSS is now denying that Qaqa was arrested. WTF

The State Security Service has denied having arrested the spokesperson of the extremist Boko Haram Sect, Abu Qada, contrary to reports in a section of the media, including the Associated Press.

The agency's spokesperson, Maryln Ogar, told Premium Times Wednesday night she was not aware of any such arrest.

"I don't know where they got the information that the guy was arrested," Ms Ogar said. "The truth is we don't have him. I don't have any such information that he was arrested."

Mr. Qada, whose true identity is unknown, regularly circulates statements to journalists via emails. He also grants telephone interviews to journalists, but has remained very elusive, just like other members of his deadly sect.

The SSS is reputed for making a show of its major arrests, parading suspects and appearing on television shows to showcase its "achievements".

Your ignorance is clear and explains your narrow mindedness. Do you know what it takes to maintain a Cattle Ranch? I suppose to you, it simply means throwing up fences and putting cattle there, olodo.

I hope you know that many universities offer programs including bachelor's and master's degrees in Cattle Ranch management. Try sending a cattle rearer to Oxford University to study Cattle Ranch management or to some Texas University to obtain certification in the same subject, and come back and tell me how far; without first carrying out the requisite social engineering.

Why the qualification below na, why not keep the whole affair quiet until you are certain that you have the right person?  Lets hope this is not a ruse and we are not told later that the arrested person simply had possession of Qaqa's phone.

Officials are trying to confirm the identity of the man arrested on Wednesday.

"We are still taking to him. Since 'Abu Qaqa' is a pseudonym for the Boko Haram spokesman, we want to be sure of who we have with us," an unnamed official told Reuters news agency.

Abul Qaqa has often spoken to journalists in the wake of militant attacks.

The other and more important one is the implementation of the necessary social Engineering to bring it to fruition. People forget that FT is not a political magazine and Sanusi's response was mainly geared towards the Economic contributors to the Boko Haram saga. It is foolhardy to conclude from the said Sanusi's interview that Sanusi believes that uneven distribution of national resources is the sole reason for the existence of Boko Haram.

The uneven distribution of national resources is indeed a factor. Nothing more nothing less.

Since it appears this problem looks like its happening in other countries where Fulani cows graze, dont you think the onus is more on the Fulanis as an ethnic group to figure out how to survive in this modern day rather than using hit and run with local farmers. I would like to get ur honest opinion if you are Fulani.
To ask the Fulani cattle herder to change his way of life from within, shows a complete lack of understanding of their plight. Those of them who are Nigerians need our help. The ones I'm concerned with do not go to Ghana or any other West African country. They bring their cattle to Southern Nigeria  from Northern Nigeria to help Southern Nigerians meet their needs for meat.

We must help design a workable mechanism for them and help them with the necessary transition.  This kind of restructuring can only be done by national governments and probably with assistance from the UN and other international organizations.  The killings will continue until we get real leadership from the government.

@PointB, you have a right to a different point of view and I respect that. The fact remains that we have a problem  which needs to be addressed rather than window dressed by the government.

As usual, our government authorities are clueless and do not have a holistic solution to deal with this nation wide issue. Unfortunately, more Nigerians will die as a result of this government inaction.

For your information, over N1.55billion was specially set aside for the Ministry of Interior to deal with this issue. Guess where the money and the implemented solutions are?

Politics › Re: Fulani Nomads, Soldiers Kill Four In N’delta by nduchucks: 1:49am On Feb 01, 2012
Here is a post I made on another thread months ago, it is probably applicable here:

Please note that the herdsmen have been transporting their cattle from Sokoto to PH, Kaduna to Lagos, e.t.c. and back, for ages. These people do not use compasses, yet they don’t get lost. What that means is that they have at a minimum, 3 to 4 well established routes which before, say 10years ago, have not been disturbed. Due to population growth and urban sprawl, the routes of the herdsmen and grassing areas have become farms.

In the maintime government officials continue to ignore the conflicts which the sprawls and population growth, coupled with insensitivity of the sprawlers, would cause. The first step is to carry out a comprehensive survey and figureout where these established routes are located. The next step will be to establish rules and enforcement mechanisms which would be respected by all concerned parties.

You’ll have to kill all the herdsmen to make them give up their way of life. Imagine if someone tells you that you people can no longer drive your cars or walk from your homes to your offices because your roads were built on land belonging to some obscure people who recently moved to your area because of population growth and sprawl! Nevermind that your roads have been there for 100 years. Fair?
