Politics › Re: The Butchers Of Nigeria - Wole Soyinka by nduchucks: 2:44am On Jan 24, 2012
mikeansy:
Solution?

The expansion of sharia law in certain states beyond the jurisdictions provided in our Federal Secular constitution must be reversed.
The Almajiri system must be banished.
Aspects of education curriculum that promotes religious hate should be banished from our education system
Muslim Leaders must take more responsibility to reject and purnish hate crimes!

etc.

"lol this is like interpreting English to English - Hardwork!"
If the above is the implied solution in Soyinka's beautiful article, then it falls short of our current needs and it is woefully inadequate. The solutions you itemized may have been enough if implemented back in 2007, but they are not sufficient to deal with the problem at hand. May I remind you that BH has declared a war and fighting that war. Nigerians, Christians, Moslems, Ifa practitioners, and others, are being killed in a guerilla war??

The solutions would have been deemed reasonable if they contained suggestions for GEJ on how to fight and win this war. Anything short of full fledged military operations including covert and overt actions will not defeat BH. GEJ needs to grow some balls, purge the government of traitors and BH sympathizers (afterall he appointed most of them politically), close the borders, declare state of emergency in appropriate states, and put the squeeze on these terrorists. I maintain that all Soyinka has done is written a beautiful article which unfortunately is devoid of real solutions to our current problems with BH.
Nice article!

On the issue of resource control and particularly oil, the North is self sufficient!  The only pain they will have is coastal access.

From what I have heard, they are not carving a sharia ruled Northern Nigeria. . . .far from it, they are carving a islamic kingdom which will amalgamate Northern Nigeria, Niger, Chad, and so on.  Chad has abundant oil.

It will be like merging Western Nigeria with Republic of Benin and Togo to return back to the pre-colonial days.  They speak one language, have same culture and customs, worship same God. . . why not have same destiny?

They will go gaga with their new found freedom, and in a case where the Northern voice has defaulted to that of boko, the Northen Nigeria piece of that kingdom will be controlled and manipulated by boko interests.  I see boko serving a role similar to taliban sharia police and flogging anyone who appears in public without a beard.

_chucks, start growing some !
To the bolded I say  cheesy  cheesy

If I didn't know that you have a weird and wild imagination, I would have concluded that you attended some BH executive meetings. BH is a terrorist group which was not dealt with promptly by GEJ and which can be defeated in less than a month if our C in C can muster the courage to do so.

BTW, I accept your show of submission which you displayed by truncating my NL userid. Keep it up, I accept the honour.

This piece by Wole Soyinka is nothing but a bunch of crappy common knowledge. The man has added nothing tangible to the problem at hand. In an expression of intellectual cowardice, he avoided mentioning any viable solution to the problem at hand, rendering his article a bunch of crap. He concluded, "Only one choice remains: to ride, or else reap, the whirlwind." What da heck does that mean?  ride ko, sour like a bird ni.

Jakumo:
Would that new Islamic Republic of Sharia-Land government still insist on partaking of the crude oil export proceeds from the Niger Delta, whose constituent tribes would in that scenario either remain within the Southern Nigerian Federation, or opt out, taking ALL the oil income with them ?    If the Sharialand government did decide to lay claim over oil reserves located outside the territorial boundaries separating that new nation from the rest of what was once Nigeria, would the Shariland army immediately launch a jihad war of conquest against the south to enforce that claim over the oil-fields, or would they be inclined to negotiate a gradual phasing out of their previous entitlement to that crude oil pie, while they develop alternate means of generating national wealth after the free ride inevitably ends ?
The answers to the questions you posed are why Nigeria can never split peacefully.  Note that no one is willing to go to war for separation because the human costs will be unbearable.  The government will kill 5,000 of you people rather than go to war and risk losing millions.

I do agree with you that we need a peaceful nation but we cannot have peace until GEJ decides to defend the country from a very real war.  Hundreds of Nigerians have been killed in full view of the world in tens of millitary offensives by BH, yet our C in C is yet to mount a major offensive to render these enemies impotent. In the meantime, traitors like you are running around secretly jubiliating at the turn of events because you believe they will eventually  lead to your biafra nation, ko?

Politics › Oyedepo Sends God’s Judgment Missiles Into Boko Haram Camp by nduchucks(op): 3:42am On Jan 23, 2012
SMH

Following the unabated spate of bombings in the country, the Senior Pastor of Living Faith Church Worldwide (a.k.a Winners Chapel), Bishop David Oyedepo, has released God's judgement missiles into the camp of Boko Haram.

In his sermon on Sunday at Canaanland, Ota, he said:"Everyone connected with the escape of the  Boko Haram kingpin, would soon face the wrath of God.

He declared his readiness to lead a revolution against jihadists, who continue to terrorise Nigerians and threaten the unity the country through their activities

"God has anointed me to lead a revolution against jihadists. Enough is enough of their activities,"
he said

Speaking further, Bishop Oyedepo said, "if it is the wish of God for the country to break up. God, break it now."

He also warned that, "If the church should arise, Nigeria will no more be a nation."

Strange things happen in that country, I tell ya.

Just recently, Mallam Kabiru Sokoto, the most prominent member of the Boko Haram group presently involved in distabilising plot against the country through sectarian killings, escaped without a single shot being fired. Now Tanko Buzu, who bombed Hausa Quarters has taken valuable intelligence information with him as he escaped by dying.

Has Boko Haram infiltrated hospitals as well? SMH

Suspected Boko Haram member, who bombed the Main Mosque, Hausa Quarters in Sapele, Sapele Local Government Area of Delta State on December 10, 2011, Tanko Buzu, is dead.

Buzu gave up the ghost a few days ago following the failure of the medical team at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) to save his life after weeks of medical attention.

Nigerian Tribune gathered that the medical team at the teaching hospital battled to save the life of the victim who was a prime suspect in the mosque’s bomb blast, but could not save him because of the degree of injuries, he sustained.

“The UBTH team battled to save the victim but all their efforts failed. The victim died a few days ago. We thought we would be able to get information on how he came about the explosive used then, but that plan failed”, a security source confided in the Nigerian Tribune.

A bomb had exploded the main mosque at Hausa Quarters in Sapele on December 10, last year injuring Buzu who was alone in the premises as early as 5.10 a.m.

The incident was suspected to have been masterminded by a Boko Haram member but security agents tried to under play the incident.

Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Charles Muka, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), refused to pick his mobile phone when the Nigerian Tribune, called on Sunday but a senior security officer confirmed the development.

@POST

I love the composition of individuals alleged to have attended the so-called SW and SS joint consultation meeting. I hope it is an eye opener to those naïve Igbo persons who still call for the formation of one nation that include all the stiffs in southern Nigeria.

The composition of this so called SW and SS meeting has reiterated my resolve that we either have Republic of Igbo land or Biafra which will consist of Igbo, Ibibio, Annang, Ogoni, Ijo (Okirika and Kalabari) and certain people in Benue State (Idoma).

Believe me, I love this development and wish it bears some fruits.
The bolded is wishful thinking on your part. What moves have been made by the SE leaders to indicate that the Ibibio, Annang, Ogoni, Ijo (Okirika and Kalabari) and certain people in Benue State (Idoma) will buy into this arrangement?  I for one do not see any political activity by the SE leaders which could lead to the alliance.  The current crop of leaders in the SE seem to be incapable of actually leading. I miss Ikemba.

It appears that the SS leaders are gearing up for an alliance with the SW, in case their son is involved in an accident and yawa come gas. Lets see if a similar communiqué is issued jointly by SS and SE leaders - I wouldn't hold my breadth.  lipsrsealed

Eminent leaders of thought from the South-South and South-West regions of the country have tasked President Goodluck Jonathan to weed out people of dubious loyalty from his government and the security forces in the nation.

The leaders spoke against the background of the threat posed to national unity by the activities of members of the terrorist Boko Haram group and President Jonathan’s declaration that members of the sect had
infiltrated government and the security agencies.

They spoke in unison during the maiden meeting of the leaders and elders of the two regions held at the Efunyela Hall in Ikenne Remo, Ogun State home of Chief Obafemi Awolowo.

The meeting started at about 12p.m. and went into a closed-door session from which it rose at about 4p.m, with the delegates emerging from the venue in an atmosphere of camaraderie characterised by back-slapping, hugging and throwing of banters.

Expectedly, the prevailing issues in the polity dominated discussions in the four-hour cross-fertilisation of ideas on how the ship of state would not founder and national cohesion endangered.

A communiqué entitled: “Strengthening the Unity of Nigeria issued at the end of the jaw-jaw and jointly signed by the leader of the South-South delegates, Chief Edwin Clark, and his counterpart form the South-West, Bishop Bolanle Gbonigi, reads as follows:

“The meeting was convened at the instance of the South-South leaders with a view to thanking the Yoruba people for their support towards the victory of President Jonathan at the last elections and to strengthen bridges of cooperation and to expand this bridge-building to other geopolitical zones of the country.

“The meeting condemned very strongly the terrorist activities of the Boko Haram sect, the increasing associated loss of innocent lives especially of Christians and Southerners and the threat the sect poses to the unity of our nation by its ultimatum to non-Northerners to leave the North.

“That the dastardly act of multiple bomb blasts carried out in Kano on Friday, 20th January, 2012 by the Boko Haram sect which claimed several innocent lives and property is totally condemned without equivocation and in the strongest term possible.

“In respect of the Boko Haram threat to national security, the meeting further urged the President not to hesitate to rid his government and the nation’s security forces of all persons of dubious loyalty and to treat the activities of the sect as treason and apply the relevant laws on the culprits and their sponsors,”

The leaders also reiterated the convocation of a national conference to address issues militating against the corporate existence of the country and as well produce a truly federal constitution that will guarantee a unified country.   shocked

On the deployment of soldiers in Lagos State, which has become a political football of some sort, and similar troops deployment in others cities and states of the federation, the meeting affirmed the sacrosanct nature of State Authority in dealing with security matters.

However, the meeting urged President Jonathan to review the deployment of military personnel in all affected areas in the country and where the circumstances so permit, direct the withdrawal of the soldiers from the streets to reduce tension and apprehension.

The meeting also urged the president to firmly prosecute the war against corruption without fear or favour so as to sanitise the country for sustainable growth and development of the economy.

“To this end, the meeting calls on all Nigerians not only to give maximum support and encouragement to the current efforts of President Jonathan in probing the activities of the fuel subsidy but also, to urge him to sanitise the entire oil and gas industry that has always created overnight briefcase billionaires at the expense of the masses,” the communiqué added.

It enjoined the president to commence steps at reducing the cost and size of governance branches of government.

The next meeting of the leaders will be held in the South-South region in April. A 10-member delegation from each of the zones was constituted and mandated to deliver the communiqué to the president.

In attendance at the meeting were Chief Edwin Clark; Senator Felix Ibru; the Obong of Calabar, His Royal Majesty, Dandeson Douglas; a former Petroleum Minister and Amanyanabo of Nembe, Dr Edmund Daukorie; Professor Saleba Mukoro; the Orodje of Okpe, His Royal Majesty Major-General Felix Mujakperuo (retd) a former Inspector General of Police, Sir Mike Okiro; Rear Admiral F.B.I Porbeni; Honourable Tunde Akogun; Dr B.K Adasen; Brigadier-General S. E Oviawe; Senator Bassey Ewa Henshaw; Chief Ayakene E. Whisky; Dr Emmanuel Efezuma;

I am saying these people practiced Ifa. Have you read anythink on Kaballah yet?  The image and popularity of Ifa has suffered greatly because a new world order overtook it in which literature and written records are given precedence of authenticity above the virtue of oral tradition.

If Ifa had been a written literature like the other manuscripts, we should not even be here talking about this issue.  It would be taught in schools and colleges and would be the foremost African theosophical tablet, rivaling the Bible, Quran, Torah.
You stated earlier that the "cosmos has sounds and rythyms.  The Yoruba tongue flow in synch with our cosmic awareness.  Therefore, I cannot translate sounds of a rythymic wave into the flat, toneless, and vowel limited English language in a way that you can grasp the full sacredness of the meaning.  Our forefathers also faced this limitation and explains why in their wisdom they left it unwritten and preferred instead to transfer and teachthe knowledge in its original tonal soundwave and poetry."

Pray tell, in what language did the Ifa practitioners of Exodus transfer and teach the said Ifa knowledge to the Yoruba people of old?  It is not enough to try to pass wishes as history.

Katsumoto:
Your comments are rather silly, vindictive, and ignorant. You clearly missed the import of the messages from several posters.

Now I am going to be brutally honest here. Let us look at the facts on ground. 'Uncivilised' Yoruba people don't go butchering innocent people in the name of religion like your 'civilised' brothers usually do.

You will never understand the Ifa belief system because you are incapable of understanding such an advanced form of thought. Your comments on this thread betrays your thought process.

I would have expected that on this particular subject, you would have been very silent.
What da heck is the matter with you and why are you attempting to beat up or bully people around? The people who are killing innocent Nigerians in the name of religion are not my brothers nor do they share the same belief system as mine. These people are waging a war against Nigeria, period.

As to the bit that I cannot understand the Ifa belief system because it requires some advanced form of thought, I refer you to the video I posted earlier. The practitioners in that video cannot, in all honesty, be deemed extremely intelligent and deep thinkers. The same applies to all the babalawos you'll find deep in the woods of Ijebu Igbo and other areas.  What do you know about Ifa anyway? You are not even a practioner of the religion.

Ndu Chuks, I read with sadness your comments calling other peoples culture and heritage primitive, in the World of today there is respect for other peoples beliefs and tradition as long as its non violent or oppressive. Your statement is stuck in time, of the hey days of Arab/Islamic imperialism and European colonization of Africa, when everything about us Black Africans was called evil and uncivilized. But thankfully the western powers have moved on, they understand the World better, others cultures are now treated with mutual respect. Sadly though the Arab/Islam imperialist of yesteryears still hold on to this culture of intolerance and superiority complex, where everything about other cultures is Harem unless approved by Sharia.
_Chucks,

Ifa corpus is what we call "manuscript of nature".  What is that?

Mankind is created into two separate but inter-dependent abodes - the conscious and the unconscious.  The two together converge to complete our divinity.  Innately, our faculties of physical and mental attributes are in a chase or a race against spatial and finite dimensions - distance, time, space and so on.  But our spirit is seeking a reunion with its primordial source and is reluctant often times to be led along in the chase in material space.  The struggle between the two results in an inner conflict.  The conflicts build up with age and produces imbalance in the divine self - the stage where the two are divergent.  The wider the gap the greater the imbalance and the less health the individual has.  To narrow the gap . . . to minimize the conflict, the inner struggle and discontent. .  and restore balance and health. . . .we need a manuscript/  Ifa is that manuscript!  In its Odus, there are instructions, guidance, teachings, revelations on the essence of polarity, duality and triplicity.

From one, you get two. . .from two, you get three.

An independent, self-subsisting and self-sustaining self soon realizes that he is indeed not capable of self-regeneration.  So he goes into finding a second dimension. . . a partner with whom to accomplish this purpose.  He then realizes that the partnership demands a new set of discipline than he was familiar with - sacrifice, patience, strengths and weakness, trust and so on.  So he learns patience, sacrifice, learns to trust.  Then his new understanding and wisdom begin to yield fruit. . . there is growth, there is joy, there is healing, there is happiness, there is propserity.

The one is not good by itself, in partnership is a great goodness. . .but even more, the partnership is a regeneration of the two into abundance and prosperity.

This is Ifa wisdom.  But compare that with the Adam and Eve event in Genesis.  Adam by himself was helpless and so he was given a mate and the two interacting with one another encored in a fruitful transformation.

This lesson is applicable in business, its applicable in matrimony, its applivable at the job.  It teaches the wisdom of balance. . . healing, and we find it in Ifa manuscript.  The world needs it to heal!
Great concept but I'm afraid however that it sounds like the core of Confucianism. The Ifa worshipers (who you people call Ara Oko) wearing asho oke and danshiki in the video I posted do not seem capable of grasping the concepts you've provided above.  I challenge you to transalate your first two sentences above to Yoruba:
An independent, self-subsisting and self-sustaining self soon realizes that he is indeed not capable of self-regeneration.  So he goes into finding a second dimension. . . a partner with whom to accomplish this purpose.
If you can't effectively do the transalation, how do you want us to believe that the original uncivilized Ifa practitioners discussed these concepts. You intellectuals of today will not be allowed to pretty up a religion that is probably barbarian by nature.

However, the Bayelsa State Governor, Timipre Sylva, indicated that the Yenagoa blasts were linked to upcoming governorship elections and not Islamist sect, Boko Haram which claimed responsibility for the Kano attacks.
If the governor confirms that the blasts were linked to upcoming elections, perpetrators must have been identified. The Governor should produce the perpetrators for arrest and prosecution immediately - abi he himself is the one responsible for the act?

Just in case this guy needs help and is not a joker, could the moderators open up a line of communications with him via PM?  Is it possible to give him/her temporary access to PM so that he can reply to moderators' messages?

@OP, think about your loved ones who will be left with a broken heart, why do you have to hurt them by setting yourself ablaze? Don't be a coward in the end by going through with this - you sound like a tough guy and not a coward. Do the right thing, find other ways to express your anger and frustration.

An unintended consequence of the subsidy removal of Jan. 1, is the uniting of Nigerians against incompetence, corruption & fraud. I will give the protesting masses credit for this. People like Beaf have a right to give the credit to GEJ and his handlers.

Either way, it is time for all of us to stand firm against these thieves. To be honest with you, the reasons why OBJ did not have a Minister of Petroleum and decided to personally run the ministry is clearer than ever. I believe the time has come for OBJ and others to account for their sins against Nigeria.
Politics › Ojukwu's Burial Postponed To March 1 Due To Subsidy Protests And Strike by nduchucks(op): 8:33am On Jan 20, 2012
I thought SE did not participate in the subsidy protests. Can't these organizers do anything right? Nonsense.

The Ikemba Nnewi, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, who died in a London hospital late last year, will be buried on March 1, 2012. His burial was earlier scheduled for February 3.

The burial committee set up by Ohanaeze and other interest groups and headed by Professor A.B.C Nwosu announced this change in date yesterday.

While expressing regret over the change in date, the committee said that it was as a result of the protest and strike by organised labour and civil society groups over the withdrawal of subsidy on fuel which it said impacted negatively on earlier arrangement.

It said, however, that the change in date would not affect the elaborate arrangement put in place to give the Eze Igbo Gburugburu a befitting burial.

Beaf: The removal of the fuel subsidy is gonna kill many big beasts.
Nigerians, we MUST stamp our feet down to ensure that it swallows up ALL the guilty. Nobody must be allowed to escape justice, Nigeria does not belong to any group of corrupt bastar'ds.

Did the NLC and Civil Society groups got all the items listed below? How come no one is talking about the outcome of these demands

The protests gathered momentum, and paralysed the economy not just because of the rise in petrol prices but because of a much broader impatience with government corruption and waste. Below are just a few of the demands made in a draft charter written at the weekend by Civil Society groups, including Occupy Nigeria which has been at the forefront of protests, demanding more comprehensive reform:
[li]A return to the pump price for petrol of N65. [/li]
[li]Independent investigation, publication and prosecution of the N1.6 trillion ($992bn) payment for petroleum subsidy in 2011, and recovery of at least N1 trillion suspected to be fraud. [/li]
[li]Negotiate with all stakeholders a roadmap for the full deregulation of the downstream oil and gas sector with clear timelines.[/li]
[li]Enact the original, undiluted version of the Petroleum Industry Bill into law within 3 months.[/li]
[li]Explain how the N1.1 trillion deficit in the budget will be financed.[/li]
[li]Reduce the National Assembly budget of N159 billion to not more than N50 billion[/li]
[li]Eliminate or reduce wasteful spending proposals on various security votes, welfare packages, food, vehicles, furniture, software, research and development, travel, etc.[/li]
[li]Reduce recurrent portion of the overall budget to not more than 60%.[/li]
[li]The voluntary donation of 50% of the salaries and allowances of all political office holders in the executive and legislative branches of the government[/li]
[li]Reduction in the number of ministers to 37 – one for each state and the FCT.[/li]
Mr Jonathan has been wrong-footed by the unions and his credibility as a champion of the “common man” substantially damaged. But if he is serious about the “transformation” he promised in last year’s election campaigns, he now has a platform to push it through. Nigerians have been united, in a way not seen the dark days of military rule in the 1990s, into demanding more accountable and effective government.

“My worry is that they are not really ready to do all these things they are now saying they are going to do. But they are going to be under a lot of pressure,” says a consultant close to government.
