@ileke bebeidi, the SW-SE alliance could have checkmated the cabal which has been controlling/ruining the country for years.

I'm sure you can name one or two disadvantages of having this cabal run our dear country. Imaging how many innocent lives which have been lost due to their control.

Katsumoto: If the 'pathological hatred' between the Yoruba and Igbo produces no violent conflict, what do we call the hatred the Hausas and beroms have for one another that usually results in ninjas wiping out entire villages including women and children while the Nigerian army looks the other way? Also, how would you characterise the love between Ndigbo and the Hausa-fulani?

You drew a lot of conclusions from your first statement; you are free to reach your own conclusions but I don't see how you could have reached those conclusions based on statements by SW posters.
Believe me, the said Yoruba vs Igbo hatred has caused the deaths of more innocent Nigerians than those caused by the Boko Haram terrorists. The bad policies and political indiscretions resulting from the Yoruba Igbo hatred may not manifest themselves through bombs, but they have had more lethal effects. Shine your eyes buddy.

Do you know how many lives would have been saved if SW and SE had cooperated politically over the years? Simple example, we may have had better roads connecting SW and SE saving thousands of lives. There are countless other examples which could be sighted.

The Boko Haram problem you sighted could be resolved within weeks if GEJ had the guts. We know the leaders, we know where their camps are. They could be wiped out summarily.

edoyad: Some of you probably have never seen a Nigerian polling booth before. Some have never seen a Nigerian voters card. Some have never seen what an INEC office looks like. Some have never seen the PdP or ACN Logo. Some don't know what PDP or ACN is acronym for, don't even know write these acronyms down.

It is reasonable to note that Northerners wielded the greatest political power in Nigeria before GEJ's regime , that power position remains as we speak, and will remain throughout GEJ's current term and continue after 2015, if we are to believe the analysis of the SW posters here.

One of the greatest tragedies of Nigerians is the pathological hatred that the Yorubas and Ndigbos have for each other.

Tinubu will be dealt with from within, at the appropriate time. The Yorubas have a way of doing that and when that time comes, Tinubu will understand the ol' Yoruba adage: Atari Ajanaku kii s'eru omode (The elephant's forehead is not what a child can carry).

$1- $100,00 -------->= Firing + Public Flogging

$100,00-$999,999 = Firing + Amputation (btw 100K and 500K you can choose the limb you want amputated, over 500K the public will choose any two out of four limbs via SMS voting)

Politics › Obasanjo Did Not Handpick Jonathan For Vp Spot, Yar'adua Did. by nduchucks(op): 12:32pm On Jun 05, 2011
May Yar'Adua's soul RIP. This was a good man who tried to honestly address the plight of the ND people. I knew OBJ could not be the gracious one to give GEJ the opportunity.

President Goodluck Jonathan was not single-handedly handpicked as late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua’s running mate in 2007 by ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, a former national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party ,Dr. Ahmadu Ali said yesterday.

Ali , who spoke at a two-day retreat for elected PDP Governors and federal lawmakers , disclosed that late Yar’Adua picked Jonathan as his running mate without the input of any of the PDP leaders.
Ali while reacting to a comment made by the publisher of ThisDay newspapers, Nduka Obaigbena that the British High Commissioner told him that PDP short-listed former governors James Ibori, Peter Odili and Jonathan for the slot, said such an assertion was far from the truth.

He said the PDP’s leadership never drew up any list of possible running mates for Yar’Adua.

"It is not true that three people were in consideration for vice president and Ibori was never considered," Ali stressed.

According to the former PDP boss, while PDP governors were meeting in the house of former Special Assistant to Obasanjo, Andy Uba, deliberating on who to nominate for the post, Obasanjo, Chief Tony Anenih and himself (Ali) summoned Yar’Adua to read his acceptance speech and inform them who he is picking as his running mate.

He said: "Chief Tony Anenih, myself and Obasanjo were the only three people in the basement and we forced the late president to read his acceptance speech.

"He resisted and I am the only one keeping a copy of that speech which he never read. Goodluck Jonathan was nominated single-handedly by Umaru Musa Yar’Adua as his running mate before me, Chief Anenih and Obasanjo. We insisted he must tell us who is his running mate.

"At that time the governors were meeting, they were holed up in the house of one senator now trying to direct affairs, so we jumped them. While they were meeting in Andy Uba’s house where they were trying to come out with a candidate as the vice president we said, ‘no, Umaru tell us now, now, now’.

"That was when he said he would like Goodluck Jonathan. So, Obasanjo took the telephone and said get me Goodluck, get me Goodluck and Goodluck came and sat down. He (Jonathan) couldn’t get any idea from our eyes as he was seated opposite me and we were just watching him. We asked Yar’Adua to tell him (Jonathan) what he told us and he told him."

He added that when Jonathan was asked to respond, he (Jonathan)expressed his reservations about holding the office of Vice President when he already had a vision and agenda on how he would govern Bayelsa State.

"He said ‘well I do know what I was going to do in Bayelsa State, but I don’t know what I will do as vice president. I would have preferred to be governor of Bayelsa State."

Ali said when Jonathan voiced his reservations he (Ali) squeezed his face and Jonathan eventually agreed to serve as Yar’Adua’s vice president.

He said they conse-quently asked Yar’Adua to approach his governor colleagues and inform them of his choice.

He added: "Mean-while, television crew had already been summoned. Anenih was on this side, I was on the other side, Yar’Adua was sitting in the centre and he made the announcement that Jonathan is his running mate and that was how we torpedoed the governors meeting."

Katsumoto:
Nigeria's problem actually started with Murtala Mohammed. It was Murtala who sacked permanent secretaries in 1975 without compensation. These career civil servants were made redundant without any pensions to provide for them. The next set of civil servants then decided to keep something for themselves in case they lost their jobs; the corruption epidemic was born. I guess Murtala was so myopic that he didn't see that coming. Nigeria has had more than its fair share of unqualified, visionless leaders who are bent on ruling at all costs.
This is the most pathetic justification or explanation for the endemic corruption present in the Nigerian society that I've ever heard. Your explanation portrays a morally bankrupt set of people who are far worse than Murtala , even if we are to accept your reasoning. I'll assume that you are simply pulling our legs or just having a bad day.

Call Murtala visionless but don't blame him for the endemic corruption in Nigeria - that is just too unreasonable and frankly senseless.

I wouldn't get too excited about this bill yet. It may very well be useless to most Nigerians for the next few years.  It is instructive that a penny is yet to be appropriated to various agencies, to be used to comply with this bill.

As things stand, I can request for information from any agency but if the agency does not have the information in an appropriate form, they simply may be unable to provide it. My recourse? take the agency to court - the agency informs the court that it does not have the funds to comply with the bill. What next? Back to the ol' drawing board, no be so?

NASS needs to appropriate adequate funding for Information Systems, including computer IS, microfiche technology,  libraries, e.t.c. to make this thing work.

My Father's good nature has influenced us all. His love for music, has influenced all of us. His love of the arts, has brought out a brilliant talent in my sister which he has always encouraged and nurtured. He would wake up every day and put on Bob Dylan and listen to classical music.

We have fond memories of him listening to his music, dancing and even making up his own lyrics to make us laugh.
He is kind and very funny and even though my nephew has not been here long, Grandad is the one he runs to whenever he would return home.

After events, he would come home, sit down with a small glass of whiskey and tell us interesting stories. He never raised his voice or yelled at us. He was always calm and peaceful. This is his true nature. Not the barbaric monster he has been made out to be. One of my brother's got wind of the news in London and called him crying, and devastated. We all are. This is not the father we have grown up to, love and adore. It hurts us to see such mean things said about him.

I haven't even lived with my Father my whole life. Yet, the times that I was staying with him due to his occupation, were some of the best times and memories of my life. Like Warsaw Poland, Manhattan in New York, and then here in Nairobi, Kenya.

I have lived with my mother my entire life, so I hope it's understood the difficulty in me writing this letter. But, I must do it. For the sake of my family, for the sake of Nigeria and the reputation my father has worked so hard to achieve.

But the truth must be known to all not just me.

May God deliver these people from evil, Amu kuma Amu.  cry

She eventually calmed down, and that was when her friend came. My father then left the house to see who had arrived, and told the person to just leave. They drove away.

Maybe everyone is confused as to why my Mother would do something like this.

Before my mother left London, it was agreed that every month my Father would be using a large portion of his allowance to pay her mortgage. That means that for the past two and a half years, my Mother has been sending that money to London to pay her mortgage for her house. Problems entailed when she realized that the so called trust worthy person was in fact keeping every cent of that money. So, as we speak, she is in serious debt.

I cannot stress the amount of times that my mother has been worrying about the repossession of her house in London, due to the theft.

When it comes to money, my mother is like a lioness protecting her cub. She will stop at nothing to try and make up for the loss of that money.

Including, but not limited to, lying to my father, and the embassy. Saying that things in the house were broken or needed repair, receiving the money for it, then keeping the money to herself. Despite the fact that there is never any food in the house, which she receives a large amount each month for, she managed to pay for a plane ticket for her old friend from England to arrive here. This now being the new person entrusted with the payment of her mortgage.

Yet, despite this expensive plane ticket, and the sheer thousands of pounds that are sent back to London, our Nigerian residence here, is somewhat of a joke. The five security dogs that we have here, who are Rottweiler's by the way, are all suffering from malnutrition and some are starving.
She receives around 20,00ksh for these dogs, yet a mere 3,000 is what is used per month to feed these large animals. Instead of a diet of meat and protein, they receive rice!

My sister has been here since April from the US. When she arrived, true to my mother's nature, she started once again into a long ongoing fight with her. Banning her from using the car, making her and my nephew take taxi cabs and finally telling our chef he is not allowed to prepare food for her! My sister even had to use her American bank card just so she could eat!

The same thing happened to me in 2008, when I myself arrived with her from London. Not allowing me to use the car, or buying food. I was even accused of conniving against her with an old lady that was brought here from a village in Nigeria to work on the residence. Now, bare in mind this is a small woman in stature, and also quite feeble. This woman was battered by my mother as she accused her of turning me against her.

In my 20 years of existence, I have actually never once witnessed an act of unkindness from my father.
My mother on the other hand, well, this is the woman who I have the worst memories of growing up. Especially concerning my sister. Which is why I'm disgusted at the hypocrisy of her "battered woman" claim.

There were many times when I would witness her picking on and beating my older sister, then I would write letters to her and slip them under her bedroom door as I heard her crying on the other side. I will never forget that.

At 16 she was kicked out of the house, and my mother will deny doing so to this day, even though we ALL witnessed it. In London, when my sister was pregnant at 24, I have never seen such evil behaviour towards her. We all thought it would get better, but it didn't. A great example of this is when we had a small mouse that used to always appear now and then, in the kitchen.

Although heavily pregnant and working at the time, my mother ordered my sister who was tired, and going through bad bouts of morning sickness, to clean the mouse droppings. When she asked if I could do it she was told, no and an argument ensued and she was almost made to do it. My sister stood her ground and refused.

She then ordered that the woman not be allowed to eat, or drink at all. I remember secretly making a meal for her as I felt bad, but she came in and saw me and an argument ensued. After everything that this woman was put through, which for her was hell, she was then made to leave. The other staff members have followed the same fate. Some have lost their jobs other were merely fired, based on the fact she thought they were stupid.

Prior to her arrival most of these people had their jobs for a long time. An example was a man called Ibraham who was not only my father's driver but a driver to many other diplomats before him. My Mother was actually jealous of the close friendship they had. So, next thing we knew, he was fired. Most if not all of our current staff all work in fear of her.

She would also spray air freshener in the room my sister was staying in, although she knew certain smells were literally making her sick. As a result, my sister not only left my mother's house, although she had nowhere to go, but she went all the way to New York, 6months pregnant with about 30 dollars to her name. She even had to ask her GP for permission to travel as she was so heavy at that point.

As for my Father, on top of NEVER raising a hand to any of us, He has literally supported us in any way he can.

My sister used to live with him in New York and study fashion and photography. He used to also pay her rent in California just because she was unable to work. He has paid for even our brother's girlfriends to come and visit in New York and elsewhere. He has always let us have our friends over and used to take us out to the cinema, to the park, to play, and to watch us at our sports games for support.
My mother wouldn't even let friends of ours in the house. My Father is loved and she has always hated that. She never understood why people didn't take to her the same way. It never occurred to her that the way she treated people would have an effect on how they saw her.

His kindness extends to his staff and they all reap the benefits of this. He never thought himself higher than anyone else and for this, his staff always received respect from him despite his powerful positions.

Wigwegate: The Real Tessy Wigwe by Nelson Wigwe (Son)

First of all let me say how angry, sad and disappointed I am at the public who have already ridiculed my father H.E Dr Chijoke W Wigwe without hearing all the facts. Without talking to the people who were there, without talking to the people who know him best. Without talking to the people who know H.E Tess Wigwe and know exactly what she is capable of. For days, I have been holding back information because my mother H.E Tess Wigwe is the woman who bore me, the woman who raised me, and she is the woman who has provided for me my whole life. But with that said I cannot sit back and allow her to ruin my father's life and disgrace Nigeria like this. Now before I continue I think it's crucial that you know a couple of facts. I have lived with my mother my whole life. I have never and will never put anyone before her. So if you're stupid enough to think that I will lie for my father against my mother? You are sadly mistaken.*

On May the 11, I was in my bedroom lying down listening to music when I heard a loud commotion coming from my mother and fathers room. I heard my mother shouting telling my father "I cook food for you and you don't eat" I thought nothing of it because my mother and father argue a lot, so I ignored it at first. But then the commotion got louder. That's when I left my room to investigate what was going on. When I arrived, I found my mother and father arguing in the hallway. My mother was yelling at me "look at my face, look at what your father did" I looked at my mother's face and she had some cuts and small amounts of blood on it, her face was nothing like those horrific pictures that we all saw in the star on May the 26 2011. I tried to calm my mother down and I escorted her into her bedroom to clean her face. I took a face towel and soaked it with dettol and tried to clean her face but she refused. "No" my mother shouted "I want to show everyone what your father has done, I want the press and everybody to see". I mean she was not complaining of any pain, she was not holding any part of her body in pain. She was not dazed or confused apart from the small cuts, she was fine.

My mother told the star that "she was rescued by her 20 year old son and her 23 year old daughter" but that's a lie because I found them arguing in the hall. My mother also said in the same interview "He grabbed me by the hand and when I tried to pull away, he hurled me against the wall and started punching me" But when I arrived at the scene I saw my mother and father having an argument, like all husbands and wife's have now and again.

So after my mother refused that I should clean her face. She incredibly asked me to look for her camera. She said and I quote "Nelson look for my camera, I want people to see what your father has done, I want everybody to know what happened even the press" to say I was shocked was an understatement, my mother claims that my father "battered" her but yet here she is, looking around for her camera, instead of telling me to take her to hospital. Could it be that my mother is lying?

She eventually found her camera and phoned her friend to come and pick her up. My mother then went outside of the house to wait for her friend. On the way out my mother took photos of her face. My father locked the front door because at this point my mother was shouting at the top of her voice, saying, "I will finish you this Chijioke Wigwe, and you shall see what will happen"

She also mentioned my father's term, and mentioned that the possibility of any future opportunity for him, she will destroy. As she waited outside for her friend to arrive, my mother was shouting wild accusations at the top her voice. "Your father sleeps around with woman; your father is an evil man" My father was furious with these accusations and unlocked the door to confront my mother but I held him back. My mother continued to disgrace herself by shouting " Chijoke Wigwe you are not fit to be Ambassador, you are a coward, your mother is a LovePeddler, I will finish you here in Kenya, mark my words"

At this point, me, my sister, the chef and the security man, are all trying to calm her down, but she was continuing to shout and trying to fight. My nephew was also there, who is a small child, but It didn't seem to bother her that he was witnessing the argument. She continued and my sister begged with her to stop for the sake of her son. It was not long after this point that she went looking for bricks and pot plants that are located around the residence. She picked up a pot plant and tried to throw it. My sister stopped her and the contents were spilled all over her as a result. When that didn't succeed, she eventually picked up a brick and hurled it at the window. Twice. Eventually shattering it. This is the person who claimed to have suffered injuries including severe back pain. So, how, therefore, did she manage to hurl large objects and break our security windows?

Politics › Re: Goodluck Jonathan Should Scrap The Council Of State! by nduchucks: 12:42am On Jun 01, 2011
I hate to break this piece of information to those calling for the scrapping of Council of States: In a democracy, you must respect the rule of law, and ALL constitutional provisions. If any interest group believes that any constitutional provision is unreasonable, the right thing to do is to get its elected officials to amend the constitution.

Calling for the Council of States to be scrapped as being done in this thread shows a complete ignorance of the constitution of the Great country of Nigeria.

To refresh your knowledge, here's an excerp from section B of the constitution of the Great country of Nigeria:

B - Council of State

5. The Council of State shall comprise the following persons:

(a) the President, who shall be the Chairman;

(b) the Vice-President, who shall be the Deputy Chairman;

(c) all former Presidents of the Federation and all former Heads of the Government of the Federation;

(i) national population census and compilation, publication and keeping of records and other information concerning the same;

(ii) prerogative of mercy;

(v) the National Judicial Council (including the appointment of the members, other than ex-officio members of that Council); and

I venture to say that this CBN's test run will fail and this new policy may not be implementable.

The senate has now thrown its support on the policy:
The Senate yesterday expressed support for the new retail cash policy introduced by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) aimed at improving cash management and banking efficiency in the country. They however called for an upward review of the minimum cash withdrawal.

Speaking during a meeting with CBN officials on the new cash policy, Chairman Senate Committee on Banking, Senator Nkechi Nwaogu (PDP, Abia) said the committee supports the policy but that the CBN must ensure adequate awareness before its take off.

Explaining the new cash policy to the committee, CBN Governor Sanusi Lamido said the daily limit cash withdrawal of N150,000 for individuals and N1 million for corporate bodies is to ensure that the burden of cash transactions is placed on those responsible for huge cash transactions.

He said “45 percent of total cash transaction that were done in Nigeria was in the region of zero to N10, 000 and 90 percent of daily cash transaction were less than N100, 000. Only 10 percent of the number of the transaction that are done in the banking sector are of N100, 000 and above. The 10 percent of N100, 000 and above accounts for 75 percent of the total value of cash; so what is happening is that the 90 percent poor Nigerians who do not withdraw  more than N100, 000 a day are subsidizing the 10 percent rich ones.

“And what we said is that this is not fair. Those that do heavy cash transaction, they should pay for it; if you do more than N150, 000 you pay a fine. We did not say you cannot withdraw more than N150, 000. If you do, you pay a fine so that you are not subsidized by the poor Nigerians.”

Sanusi said the apex bank findings indicated that huge cash transactions was responsible for the heavy cost of banking operations which is transferred to the customers in terms of high lending rate.

He said main objective of the new policy is to evolve a cashless society saying “by the first quarter of next year, Lagos would be almost a cashless society. CBN plans to use the state as a satellite centre for the planned cashless society.”

If you do, you pay a fine so that you are not subsidized by the poor Nigerians.” hmmmm, how much is this fine? Why are they going to fine me for withdrawing N1million from my account? sebi its my money.

This is the kind of security threat which deserves immediate attention from the Federal Government. I wouldn't be surprised if we don't hear one word about the issue from the president's office.

BLOOD flowed freely Tuesday in Badagry, Lagos after a group of heavily armed soldiers from the 242 Recce Battalion, Iberepo Badagry took over strategic locations in the ancient town maiming and killing any police man on sight in an apparent reprisal of the killing Monday, of one of their colleagues.

The Divisional Police Officer, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Saliu Samson, his Divisional Crime Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DPS) Samuel who were out in the ensuing fracas to appeal for calm were shot dead.

Two police patrol vehicles belonging to the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) were set ablaze while their occupants were chased and shot dead. As at 2.30 pm yesterday, corpses of police officers littered the Iberepo roundabout while the rampaging soldiers were spotted with every imaginable dangerous weapons scouting for police men.

Sources said some police men and their families who lived in the Iberepo barracks were chased out and seriously wounded.

According to sources, a soldier in mufti who was escorting goods from the Nigeria\Seme border was accosted by a police officer attached to RRS and Monday and demanded to search the vehicle.

It was learnt that the late unidentified soldier had challenged the policeman and threatened to disarmed him if he does not allow the vehicle free way; prompting the trigger happy policeman to fire at him at close range.

The soldier reportedly slumped and died on the spot. Vanguard was told that the news of the killing of the soldier soon filtered into the Iberepo barracks and some soldiers mobilized as early as 9,00am yesterday and started attacking any policeman on sight contrary to a non violence order given to them by the commander of the barracks, Colonel Nabasa.

Contacted, the Force public relation officer, DCP Olusola Amore said he was yet to get details of the clash saying, “Let me talk to the CP Lagos then I will be in a better position to react to the matter. But his counterpart in the army, Lieutenant Colonel Kayode Ogunsanya of the 81 Division said the situation had been brought under control stressing that it will be throughly investigated. “The situation is under control and I can assure you that the cause of the clash will be thoroughly investigated,” he assured.

You are especially guilty of being glib. The complaint is not about "Islamic Banking" - the complain is about a "Sharia Compliance" clause that transforms it into a religious activity. As the original complaints pointed out, "Islamic Banking" is in place in Europe W/O a "Sharia Compliant" clause. Nobody is deceived by your attempt to lump the two together, and calling those who reject the "clause" as rejecting "Islamic Banking".
I'd recommend that you find and post this "Sharia Compliance" clause which you are so threatened by. Perhaps if you read the clause with an open and intellectual mind, you and others will not feel threatened.

Note that you or anyone else are not required to deposit your money in a Islamic bank, or to buy shares in such a bank. What then is your problem? People who do not have any problem with the legal compliance clauses which guide the operations of such banks, will invest and make millions. These banks will have positive impact on our economy. Go and patronize a conventional bank wherein, the MDs can rip you off at will, if that makes you comfortable. Opposition to Islamic Banking as proposed by the CBN, is irrational.

@ndu_chucks
You and your sneaky digs!!! Calling someone a bigot doesn't really mean it is true. Really, the religious bigot here would be Sanusi and his "Sharia Compliant" clause. If you don't realize it - just read this definition of bigot: "One who is strongly partial to one's own group, religion, race, or politics and is intolerant of those who differ."

There is absolutely no need for a "Sharia Compliant" clause in anything done by the Nigerian State. First question is: Would Sharia-Compliant require you to be a Muslim? How is Sharia-Compliance to be enforced? Do you see where this is leading?

I don't consider Sanusi a religious extremists, perhaps a zealot of some sort. However, there is great potential danger 10, 20 years down the line, when REAL religious extremists begin to interpret this law. If you tend to wave off this potential danger then to look at how the constitutional provision that put Sharia courts in place as a counterpart to Customary courts has been turned into a license to precide over criminal matters - cutting-off hands and attempting stoning. Be careful what you wish for.

I did not expect you to engage in buck-passing by mentioning Soludo's name below. If Soludo planned something, but never implemented it, does that take away Sanusi's powers to revise everything - isn't that what he has done to the banks (which I actually believe was much needed). Once he assumed complete control over the CBN system, then everything becomes his responsibility as long as Soludo did nothing that was irreversible. And I doubt if Prof. Soludo would be so. . .to insert a "Sharia-Compliant" clause into the "Islamic Banking" law. I am almost sure that is Sanusi's doing!!!

Lastly, the name "Islamic Banking" should be nothing more than a name that honors the origin of that particular system of banking, but nothing more. Nothing in the law or its implementation should carry any religious undertones or obligation. Since it appears that Nigerians are incapable of understanding that simple point, we need to do away with the "Islamic Banking" name and the "Sharia-Compliance" clause and any other religious undertones being built into the system altogether.
The globally accepted instrument of Islamic Banking whose framework was established by Soludo and now being implemented by Sanusi, is nothing to be afraid of, for only the ignorant will be afraid of it.

I started to take your post seriously until I read this statement from you Nothing in the law or its implementation should carry any religious undertones or obligation. Since it appears that Nigerians are incapable of understanding that simple point, we need to do away with the "Islamic Banking" name and the "Sharia-Compliance" clause and any other religious undertones being built into the system altogether.

How dare you conclude that Nigerians are incapable of understanding anything for that matter. Your pompous and i.diotic pronouncement has simply indicated that you are not to be taken seriously. Apparently, you are the only bright Nigerian who can understand that Islamic Banking does not carry an extremist religious undertone. Olodo

@maclatunji, You failed to address the main point of my post in your response. I will reproduce the post here, but if you choose to remain dodgy, I'll understand. The anger against Sanusi on this issue is unjustified and I submit, bigoted.
I'm sorry to say that many of you who are calling for Sanusi's removal, because of his implementation of this globally accepted Islamic Banking instrument, are simply bigoted, intellectually lazy, ignorant, or all of the above.

It might interest you to note that draft framework Section 9 of the draft regulatory framework released under Professor Soludo’s CBN provides that: “There shall be an advisory committee on non-interest banking within the CBN to be called the CBN Shariah Council (CSC), which will be outsourced. The CSC shall advise the CBN on Islamic laws and principles for the purposes of regulating non-interest banking business.” Also, the first paragraph of the document describes a non-interest bank as “a bank which transacts banking business, engages in trading, investments and commercial activities, as well as the provision of financial products and services in accordance with the principles and rules of Islamic commercial jurisprudence.”

The CBN under Professor Soludo went further to cite, as the basis for the regulatory framework, the enabling legislation as “Section 28 (1)(b) of the CBN Act 2007 and the following provisions of BOFIA 1991 (as amended): Sections 55(2); 52; 59(1)(a); 32(1); 61; 23(1).”

It is evident that a painstaking effort has been made to offer an insight into the background of Islamic Banking in Nigeria to ensure that it is understood.

Sanusi is simply implementing a framework established by Soludo - a framework for a globally accepted banking model. Where were you people when Soludo made his announcements and made the draft framework available to the public? awon olodo.
@ekt_bear, Lets wait and see then. Everyone knows what "renounce and abjure all allegiance to Nigeria" under oath means. Lets hope Nigerian Supreme court will see it the way you do. If not, you may not be a Nigerian any more, you may very well be an Akata cheesy
Politics › Re: Ajumobi Is An American, So Akala May Still Be Governor Of Oyo State by nduchucks: 6:30pm On May 21, 2011
@ekt_bear, it is unbecoming of you to call people who disagree with you stup.id or trolling. There is no denying that if you are a Nigerian citizen, in order to become a naturalized USA citizen, you will swear under oath as follows:

I hereby declare, on oath,

•that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen;

The state and sovereignty refered to above would be Nigeria. It is also a fact that the Nigerian supreme court can rule that, having taken such an oath, you would have given up your Nigerian citizenship, regardless of any US supreme court pronouncement. Lets wait for the Supreme court of Nigeria to rule on this issue, if at all it gets to them.

If indeed Ajimobi took such an oath, I submit to you that, the supreme court of Nigeria can and should rule that he indeed renounced his citizenship. Now, if Ajimobi is not a naturalized US citizen, then the whole point is moot.

What is so difficult to understand about what I've just written?
Politics › Re: Ajumobi Is An American, So Akala May Still Be Governor Of Oyo State by nduchucks: 5:06pm On May 21, 2011
@ekt_bear,

If you were naturalized, you must have taken the oath wherein you renounced absolutely and entirely and abjure all allegiance to Nigeria. You swore to this!  I maintain that Ajimobi has a case to answer, lets see what the supreme court of Nigeria will say about the issue. The supreme court of Nigeria is the ultimate decider in this case, not the US supreme court.

@ekt_bear,

Go and read the Oath of citizenship of the US.

Excerpt from oath of citizenship of the US:

I hereby declare, on oath,

•that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen;

Ajimobi should be very worried.
Nope, US allows dual citizenship: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_nationality_law#Dual_citizenship

It is possible that Nigeria does not; I don't know (but think it does.)
The issue is not whether US allows dual citizenship, both US and Nigeria allow it. Now if you were born in the USA to Nigerian parents, you become a US citizen and also a Nigerian citizen - you are not required to renounce the citizenship of either country in this case. If this is the case with Ajimobi, he has no case to answer.

If on the other hand, Ajimobi is a naturalized US citizen, he must have renounced his Nigerian citizenship because that action is a prerequisite for becoming a naturalized US citizen. Ajimobi gave up his Nigerian citizenship by the renounciation process required by US law! If ths is the case, then he should lose this case.
