Family › Re: Band A Electricity Tariff Is Draining Me O, Could It Be? by nedekid: 12:20pm On May 09, 2025
stagger:
Electricity costs everywhere in the world are very expensive.
Oga where in the world aside naija is electricity bill more than rent, more than minimum wage?
Eg in UK how much is average bill £100? I doubt, must be less. The lowest earners make 1500-2000 monthly. For that you will see 60-100£ bill is payable.
But in naija where few people even earn 70k minimum wage then you are spending eg 20k on nepa, another 30k to power "I pass you neighbour", or a better earner earning 1m monthly and using 150-200k.
Compare the cost to the earning and you will see in naija own case, this is not about electricity being expensive all over the world.

But have you been having stable light in your area like this before this govt come to power? If No,which one did you prefer, expensive available or cheap but not available
Light is stable? If I show you how much we spend on high electricity monthly then add cost of diesel @1070 per liter, you will be shocked. Aside residents, businesses are almost closing up because of high unstable electricity and high diesel cost to power gen.
Where is the stable light despite the high costs? They said band A will be 20hrs daily minimum, if you see 12hrs thank God.

I spend 160k amonth to use AC on a 3 bedroom... 2 is what's mostly occupied
Inless you use inverter ac you likely spend more that 160k.
Me I only use the 1hp in bedroom, turned off the big deep freezer for a smaller one, one st anding fridge, the normal fans and others, I average 5-10k daily, if the kids are home from school then 15k+ daily as they turn on acs in their rooms or 2hp unit in the living room. Ofcourse with the heat these days one cannot stop them.

Even if they pay $1t to naija it will be the same story. You will hear why have to increase electricity bill, naira will depreciate and not appreciate, the apc will give reasons blaming the last administration, they will tell you the country had debt if $2t and the 1t will not reach. Baba still tell you he is doing reforms and you should suffer more.

The Senate has passed the Electricity bill into law, they have passed the National social investment program bill into law and several others. It's very easy for your likes to sit down on social media and talk ignorantly. Yu guys think you know more but unfortunately you barely know nothing. Even the tax bills in consideration is to alleviate the tax burdens on the poor.

I spend 20k on electricity every month, with just fan, AC, fridge and three bulbs.
I know how hard it is to live.
20k or you mean more? There is no way you can run all you said with 20k in a month. Bros I use that in tops 3-4 days with management. Maybe you are not on band A.

"Let’s see the ministers—those shameless Rolls Royce connoisseurs—sweat it out in Nigerian-made vehicles too."

Atiku is NOT a smart guy. He also DOESN'T know how to hire smart guys.

Of all the shittiness he could attack the FAILED Tinubu Government for, he chose a BEER PARLOUR argument of extremely DUMB whataboutism.

He uses "sweat it out in Nigeria-made vehicles" which implies he knows that Nigerian vehicles are not yet up to the standard of their foreign counterparts.

YET Atiku thinks it's a good idea for the President of a POLITICALLY-VOLATILE country such as Nigeria to use it as his official car in a PERFORMATIVE attempt to pacify a PERENNIAL loser like Atiku.

Atiku is NOT a smart guy.
Someone at atikus level is not a smart guy? Omo, Nigerians get mouth ohh..

God1000:
This is horrifying on every level. A woman verbally attacks a child with a racial slur and instead of facing consequences, she’s being rewarded with hundreds of thousands of dollars? This isn’t just about one person’s hate; it’s about a society that enables and even funds it. Very sickening and disgusting behavior

My fellow black brothers and sisters should wake up and stop worshipping these people, I can't believe this is happening in 2025

I blame trump, his racist behavior has emboldened these deplorable folks more
Bros it is everywhere, nothing to be surprised about. Over here in naija nko even on this forum, despite us being blacks and even from the same country are people not saying worse to people of different tribes and regions in the country? Worse things have been said here, even more that that lady calling the black child a niggar or the support she got from the white community.
Comparatively, white seem to be better than we blacks as it seems blacks are even more racist to themselves. That mixed Yoruba and igbo chap that wanted to be governor of Lagos did we not see how he was treated? same way it is unlikely a yoruba guy, igbo or hausa can be governor of a state outside his origin, but the irony of it is that that person will go to a white man's country and become top officials even voted for by whites. Look at kemi badenoch, let her come to naija and run for governor of eg imo state, or okonjo iwela to run for Lagos and see if it is possible.

My message is not for everyone
Don't worry, when you grow up, have responsibility and face the reality of naija you will realise the fallasy of all you wrote as being a utopian dream. People especially politicians have said and written all you wrote thousands of times since independence but we are where we are, you surely will not be the last to have such noble ideas. In reality what have you as a person done in your own space to eg grow what we eat or even cultivate and instead of export raw but added value? Likely nothing, it is all talk.
Politics › Re: 'Cocoa Boys' Flock To Nigerian Farmlands, Drawn By High Prices by nedekid: 8:46pm On May 06, 2025
omonnakoda:
Every thing in life has two side Let me introduce a different perspective

Yes farmers are making money but does the country benefit?

Some may argue. It brings in dollars .

Why are dollars a good thing? What do you do with the dollars? Consume imported stuff that fuels jobs in other countries?

The problem is this

Land used to grow cocoa is not being used to grow stuff that we eat in Nigeria. That is a problem

Is that opportunity cost worth it for the country if you end up importin rice? using dollars?

African Nations are being used as farmlands for rich countries to grow cocoa, cashew nuts cassava, coffee, tea even flowers whilst African people go hungry. Most of these cash crops their people cannot afford to consume.

We are not even allowed to add value to the cocoa and the real money is made in places like the USA, Belgium, France, Switzerland

We need to forget about using our land to service Europe with things our people cannot afford to consume

The other thing is that they have the power to crash prices of cocoa and other commodities when you least expect it . We have seen it many times with crude oil

We should focus on trading with our African neighbours growing things that Nigerians eat or our neighbours eat

Rice , Yam, beans, vegetables, cassava potatoes
If we must grow cocoa. We must insist on making chocolates from it and aim to get our people to consume it
If not let us aim to train our youths to make electric cars, solar panels and so on

No matter how you dice it the labourers working on cocoa farms are close to slave labour. Our people deserve better

Now Chinese people are going into the bush and loading containers with cashew and cocoa and our people are celebrating because they see the kind of money they have never seen before but it is not in our best interest. We need to look at the bigger world picture. See what Trump is doing

Let our land serve us

Something similar is happening with Dangote. He is more intent on exporting fertilizer than mobilizing it to boost food production in Nigeria.

Here is a very interesting fact

Nigeria is number 8 in the list of countries with Arable land and number one in Africa.

Why are we hungry.

The cocoa story is nice but let us switch that to what we actually eat IN NIGERIA
Oga bottom line is that if I go into cocoa farming it is to get the harvest and sell to the highest bidder preferably in $$, ££, € etc, take my money and put in my foreign aza or local domiciliary "accant" for the betterment of me and my family. You on the other hand can grow local crops for consumption of locals and to lift Nigeria up.
There is enough land to go around for you and I.
Politics › Re: Ndume Hails Tinubu’s Ban On Foreign Goods by nedekid: 8:14pm On May 06, 2025
While it may sound good, it will only increase prices. Few Nigerian made good can be as competitive as imported ones eg from China.
Ask any manufacturer these days, the cost of electricity or diesel to run generators and to distribute goods takeup almost 70% of production cost. You then have all sorts of gov agencies with different taxes.
If not for our high running cost why should imported goods be cheaper, afterall our cost of labour is low.

Naija wahala too much. The more the country gets harder the more these people given guns to protect Nigerians get wild. And all this wahala on the road hinders trade and tourism.
Eg, someone solicited my services to move some items from apapa to seme. I billed them, I then called one or 2 people to find out the current situation on the badagry-seme axis. Omo, I was told the wahala from driving on that road was not worth it. That all the forces expecially customs and police are few hundred meters apart, na so so checkpoints, that we should also hold customs papers and lots of cash. I had to back out of the deal. The people called and called that they will provide excort services, omo, I say I no do, I don't need the stress. Till this morning they even called me from their Cotonue office to plead say make I carry their load, I no gree. Apparently all the people that do my specialised kind of logistics refused going towards the badagry seme axis.
This is what the proliferation of security agents on the road focusing on extortion causes. It desturbs trade.
