I am not here to defend what Papa Awo, did or did not do 40yrs ago.

This is the absolute truth. Awo is seen almost like a god in the West, but elswhere, he is seen as the devil incarnate. Eg. how much blood has been spilt in Warri, due to Awo's influence? The Midwest was very quick to turn its back on Awo as soon as it was created.

There has been no individual more tribalistic than Awo, there are other political heroes from the West, pick another one and half of Nigeria's problems will be solved.

Awo was an ideologue both before and after independence.  He believed in self-rule as the ultimate right of the political entity, be it Nigeria (pre-independence) or Western Nigeria (post-independence).  If he had his way, the social advancements enjoyed all over Western Region when he was the Premier would have been nationalized and deployed to every native authority in the country.  Nobody speaks of his advocation for national health care, free education, manpower training and productivity, coalition of farmers to introduce cooperative markets. . . and many many other programs that the British felt would overshadow their credits for the success of Independent Nigeria.  Awo did not initiate the war. . . he was under no obligation to baby sit or nurture its aftermath.  Zik should have done that.  Zik had been the Premier of the East, he was a President and he maintained a neutral stance in the war so it was his obligation to step in and mediate and aid the Easterners.  Where was he and why was he silent?  

I am yet to hear Igbo question the action of Zik.  I am thankful to Awo for proclaiming and defending the Yoruba identity, to the detriment of other tribes.  Thats what a leader of a people is supposed to do.  If your leader did not do that on your behalf, shame on him.

I dont know what to make of his bow-down salutations except to say that I love Sarah Palin. . . and I wish she was the one bending over! Oops, did I say that? Negro is a sexist!

We are content in our reclusion and abilities at negotiating around difficult and monumental barriers. . .the lessons of past wars has taught us to do that skillfully.  We dont need to work with anybody.  Others need to learn to work with us.

Its unlikely that in any future Biafran uprising you will be as lucky as was the case in the 70s that your abandoned properties were returned to you. This is very true! His show of respect and goodwill around the globe is admirable but his countrymen do not find his submissive gestures appealing. Palace Court protocols demand that subjects bow to the presence of a monarch. Diplomatic protocols have no such requirement. The President of America is not the subject of any King or Queen and his presence before a monarch is in line with diplomatic relations and has to be chaperoned under the rules of diplomatic engagement.

Whatever criticism is thrown at him this time. . . he has earned it!

The Israel/Palestine confrontation was at one time a genuine political and boundary issue but in this time and age it has degenrated into a war of necessity and convenience for Israel.

Israel's relevance is in global affairs is legitimized by this war and the position that Palestinia takes. If Palestinian leaders stand up today and say okay, we are exhausted we throw up our demands and accept the Israeli offer on face value. . . Netanyahu will still not accept the offer for peace. If there is no war and no enemy. . . then what does Israel have left in its national agenda and policy to give it relevance in UN and global diplomacy? Nothing! They are not a major food producer. . . their resources are insignificant and their industrial ingenuity is a suspect around the globe. So they are stuck! I am hearing though that they want to reinvent their nationality. Some groups are raising concern that statehood had cost them prominence and domination and that their influence is limited only to United States. . . a big shift and loss when compared with their monopolitic network of influence throughout old Europe and USSR. . . the base of global power and industry.

to come to his defense, I believe no2 is addressing all the subjects from an idealist standpoint. As you know, our perspective of the world around us is a continous test. . .we are constantly challenged and if we tackle that obstacle with an open mind we come out with new understanding that adds to intellectual maturity. What happens if we face it with a closed and narrow mindset? We would still learn, except that the resulting knowledge will stunt our maturity. No2 has addressed Islam and the Quran with closed mind. You can study a subject and remain detached. . .not necessarily adopting its teachings as your code of ethics or principles in life. He needs to do that with the Quran. If he hasnt read the Torah already, I will add that to the list. The faith of Abraham is the only genuine religion. . . it is the path to idealism and deliverance. Bliss for mankind!!
