PoliticsRe: The Nigerian Judicial System And Human Rights : Your Summary by NegroNtns(m): 9:09pm On Nov 09, 2009
In reference back to your post, my summary will be four questions to stir the mind.  Here they are:

1. Has there ever been anytime in history, whether pre- or post-colonial period, when we had a functional legal system that protected the right to fair hearing and justice for the indigenes served by the local authorities?

2. Has there ever been a time in our history when we had a constitution in which the indigeinity of the people are secured against any foreign or domestic imbalance of power?

3.  On courts,  what is the integrity of the codes they administrate?  The courts are heavily regimented from the center, making it extremely difficult at the native level to enforce local codes of customary traditions. This is why North broke out and insulated themselves against the center with their Sharia Courts and Jurispundence.  Are the constitutional courts relevant to the society and the people?

4.  There is a huge difference between what is "fact" and what is "truth".  In an age where human rights is advocated based on "facts". . .one must ask, how much of that fact is "truth"?  When you push one right for one person. . . you end up violating the right or multiple rights of some other person/s.   Without going into google and wiki, who can best give a simple and truthful definition for human right?
RomanceRe: What Do You Think Of Nairaland Girls? by NegroNtns(m): 8:29pm On Nov 09, 2009
They are lovely. So gentle, well spoken, well mannered, totally independent and amazingly intelligent. . . I guess that's why God made angels instead of mere human beings his companions.
Sisi, its only few qualified to be called angels and you are definitely in that rank. The rest are nothing but lipsrsealed bleep lipsrsealed .
Christianity EtcThere Is Only One Religion - Humanity! by NegroNtns(op): 8:23pm On Nov 09, 2009
I have a religion. . .my communication with my creator using the many encounters of my daily life as the temple of truth.

Every person I come in contact with is a mediary of exchange. In that exchange I'm sharing what is beautiful and noble in the depth of my soul, per chance the other person would respond with a more beautiful and radiantly divine blossom.

Anything else outside of that is hatred camouflaged as religion and falsely claimed as the voice of God.

RomanceRe: How Can I Make My Wife Happy Again? by NegroNtns(m): 1:29am On Nov 06, 2009
In case I miss your response this weekend. . .there's nothing wrong with depression, its part of the ebb flow in life. There's an up and there's a down. What is bad is when a depressed person stays perpetually in that state and their energy flattens out, instead of recovering. Dont force her out of it. Allow her to self-recover.

Often times, and by natural design, . . .in preparation for a new growth or change, a person would involutarily be thrown into a depression. As they start to recover, the change merges in, unnoticed, with their new strength and the person is able to give life to that change and manifest it. This was my reason for asking the sign. . .

Here is what you can do to support her self-recovery. . .

If she is a water sign (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces) use melody. Play a lot of sweet and slow music. . .definitely no jazz and no classic, nothing instrumental! Try something like this . . .
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tkx0p06WnPQ. If she gets up to dance dont wait for invitation. . .take the hint.

If she is fire sign (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius) use comedy. Rent some comedy dvds she has not seen or she had seen and loved. If you can afford it take her out to see a play. If you are good at comedy, put on a show for her yourself grin

If she is earth sign (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn) use tactic. If you have had an idea at home or work that bothered you lately, give it to her. Tell her you are lost on what to do to get a solution and you wonder if she has any thoughts. She will jump on it. . I see where many people already advised you to give your ears and let her talk and vent. . .well, thats what you must do here.

If she air sign (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius) use strategy. Invite friends over, the more the better. Create a mentally challenging scene and make sure the topic of discussion is agreed upon before hand. . .try politics. human suffering, injustice, children abuse, women abuse. . . something to make her think she is saving the world with her ideas. But be prepared. . .at the end of the evening she might start writing those ideas for a new book.

Your wife is lucky. . and you are a very decent man. You dont mop floors or bake cookies at home do you?

Foreign AffairsRe: Amnesty: Should Pakistan Take A Clue From Nigeria And Britain? by NegroNtns(m): 11:01pm On Nov 02, 2009
. . . if I may add, there is nothing worth the grain of a modelled behavior or leadership in Nigeria or Britain that Pakistan need to reference.

Pakistan played a role and was US proxy in the effort to defeat and push USSR out of Afghanistan in the 80s. Same warlords and tribal chiefs that US is now accusing of destabilizing that region were the foot soldiers trained, equipped and funded by US to make Kabul the graveyard of Russian soldiers. What has changed?

If we have sense in Nigeria, we should be exploiting the security advantages demonstrated by MEND, instead of labelling them a terrorist group. We, Nigeria, should reference Pakistan as "lessons learnt". . . and not the other way round.

Google
Is that the best you can produce?

@post,

Negotiation is a powerful tool and I truly wish that it is taught in Nigerian schools. As a society faced with many barriers, either across tribal identities or just within an individual family unit, we are achieving below par and our collective commitment for unity is largely unrealized because for most part the process has become an extension of our ego, collectively and individually.

In any war, the two sides engaged in battle serve as an essential balance to one another. There will be no gallantry in battlefield unless your enemy proved formidable and gave you a good and hell of a fight. As you pin medals of honor to the chest of your sons and daughters and glorify their victory. . .the pride and dignity of the opponent must not be dishonored in passing. You owe it to your enemy to uphold their morale and bring them to the realization for a new beginning in relations. . .just as they owe you the honor of surrender and concession.
PoliticsRe: Lagos In 2020: Must See by NegroNtns(m): 9:12pm On Nov 02, 2009
It seems almost everyone is fascinated by towering skyscrapers and winding causeways as a sign of development. Those structures cost a fortune per square inch. . . the money to build and maintain it must come from some yet-to-be allocated fund. Without increasing tax levy, without pinching on already scarce domestic funds. . . we need to go find some sucker somewhere in foreign land that will pay for it. Its called foreign land exploitation.
PoliticsRe: Lagos In 2020: Must See by NegroNtns(m): 8:00pm On Nov 02, 2009
These things come work,  i believe in them,  the white men dreamt of their current countries before it became what it's today.
That is very true, but u forgetting that white man is not as selfish, greedy and of a bastard like the leaders that we have.
If it is the desire of Nigerians to erect gigantic and imposing concrete structures in our metro cities to give the impression of social development, then a couple of things need first to precede the realization of the desire. Here they are:

1. Invade another resourceful country and take over their financial market and influence their cultural ideology using cinema arts and music to inject propaganda.

2. Influence their political leadership, including sponsorship for candidates favoring Naira above their own local currency.

3. Use trade tarriffs to discourage and kill their agricultural output. but subsidize Nigerian farmers and sign trade agreements giving Nigeria exclusive or higher share of total food imports into that country.

4. Infiltrate their security and make it possible for crime to flourish but decry their leaders for violating human rights when criminals are punished.  Also, re-orient the citizens view of their country. . to the extent that they see Nigeria and Nigerians as their only saviour against their own leaders.

My brothers and sisters, this is how the Western world operated to get what they have and become who they are today.  If you like what you see in their country. . then instead of just copying their steel and concrete structures, lets practice their atrocities as well. . .on people of other countries that is!
PoliticsRe: Lagos State Begins Production Of Transformers For Power Distribution. by NegroNtns(m): 9:46pm On Oct 31, 2009
Lagos State Begins Production Of Transformers For Power Distribution

Oct 30, 2009 - In fulfillment of the promise it made early this year, the Lagos State Government has commenced the production of transformers in the State to boost the distribution of power especially in the rural communities.

During the presentation of the State’s 2009 Budget, the State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN), hinted that the State Government has gone into joint venture partnership with Elsewedy Cables based in Egypt for the manufacture of Home Made Transformers promising that production would start later in the year.

The Governor was at the Factory site in Badagry recently during a working tour of the Local Government during which he also visited the company and got first hand information about the manufacture of the transformers.

Announcing the commencement of production Friday at a joint press conference at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre, Alausa, the Commissioner for Rural Development Prince Lanre Balogun, said in doing so the State has scored another first in the country in the field of power distribution.

According to the Commissioner who was accompanied by his Information and Strategy counterpart, Barrister Opeyemi Bamidele and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Commerce and Industry, Mrs. Shola Oworu, by this development, the difficulty of certifying imported transformers will now be a thing of the past.

Balogun said unlike the imported transformers the locally produced transformers are made of copper coil instead of aluminum and are of high standard with dry cell which requires little or no maintenance adding that they will be best suited for the rural communities in the State.

“The Governor took a bold step by inviting and partnering with Egypt-based Elsewedy Company to establish a factory in the state to produce transformers locally as well as train Nigerians to take over in the nearest future”, the Commissioner said.

The Commissioner who said the transformers are to be given free to communities on demand, however, stated that the State Government ceases to exercise any control over the transformers as soon as they are connected to the National Grid by the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN), adding that the Government is still talking with the Federal Government on the issue.

In her contribution, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Commerce and Industry, Mrs. Shola Oworu, said the company has already delivered 15 transformers to the Ministry of Rural Development, adding that the company will produce no less than 100 transformers by the end of this year.

The Special Adviser said the target is that the company will produce 100 transformers per month from next year adding that the target is expected to increase as the demands get higher.

On the level of commitment by the State Government in the venture, Mrs. Oworu explained that the contribution of the State is only in terms of land on which the factory is situated adding that the holding is slightly above five percent.

“It is a joint venture between the State Government and Elsewedy Cables of Egypt. But we are committed to provide the land and we have about 5 per cent holding in it”, the Special Adviser said adding that aside the transformers, the factory will also produce meters and poles for traffic light and street names.

She said the creation of employment for Nigerians within the factory and the possibility of handing over to them at the long run has also been taken care of as the Egyptians, who are technical experts, are less than 10 per cent of the work force.

Earlier in his introductory remarks, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy said by venturing into the manufacture of the transformers, the administration has demonstrated its capacity and courage to break new grounds adding, “As an administration we have refused to limit ourselves to only the things we are able to do”.

Also present at the briefing were the Special Adviser to the Governor on Information and Strategy, Mr. Segun Ayobolu and his Rural Development counterpart, Hon. Paul Kalejaiye.

News men were later led to the Ministry of Rural Development premises where they inspected some samples of the Home Made Transformers.
Very ambitious and pioneering. The keypoints as I see them are highlighted. It will be significant for the government to issue a followup report in six months, communicating the success and progress of the project. Reassure the public that this is not another flavour of the month.

PoliticsRe: What Is The Political Value Of Nairaland? by NegroNtns(m): 12:13am On Oct 31, 2009
Thats a good talk TP!

How should one handle a debilitating building with leak on the roof? We cant just walk away from it and move to another building. . .we must attempt a fix. Many of the infrastructures back home are broke and non-functional because our attitude about "maintenance". It all goes in that mis-management bucket that we accuse our leaders of. We need a new birth. . .a new breakthrough in our attitude about the significance of what we value and what the cost would ultimately be when they are abandoned and unattended to.

Let's do wholesale changes and give Nairaland a new store front appeal. Someone has to start the housekeeping. . .someone with a stick to hit violators hard on their head. Who holds that stick?

while trying not to throw out more questions;. . .

I advised her that the reverse is probably the case (i.e) blacks are actually superior to whites.
Ayinba, you just threw out one thought-provoking idea

I can tell you that artists are more refined in their minds and nature than scientists. If we assume that blacks are more artistic and whites are more scientific. . . then you are correct in that idea of superiority. But we need to define what we mean by superiority. You might also want to know why overwhelmingly blacks believe in science as a superior discipline to arts.

Moral of the story is never underestimate common sense and you would be surprised who lacks it at the best of times.
Beaf, inventors are the clumsiest when it comes to application of ideas. You hit the nail on the head. . . diversity!! The inventor is best at conceptualizing but usually lack vision for how to translate that concept into a finished and practical product. He/she need someone else to execute their ideas.

I am not in this to talk about other forms of. They are very two different things. You could stick to emotional intelligence or other forms of intelligence if you want. Emotional intelligence is not what i am interested in. i want the to discuss the one one which made Einstein aware that time was relative or the type that philosophers use to argue about the true existence of individuals-
Sefago, you will need to make your point from a scriptural reference, if thats what you wantto achieve. . .otherwise it would appear that you are inconsistent in your input. Yes, the two are not same but they are not critical of one another to the point that you have condemned religion input on intelligence as simple and stupid. Relativity, as propagated by Einstein, was an offshoot of Astronomy. Astronomers take cue from divinity.
